Chapter 1: Steve Saga
Chapter Text
(After Sabre left)
Bee(Nightmare): How did Sabre and Lucas always get out of these messes?
Rainbow: They didn't. They just made a bigger mess that canceled out the first one.
#
Ghost: New year, same me. Because I'm perfect.
#
Illusion: Ok so, apparently the "bad vibes" I've been feeling are actually severe psychological distress.
#
Plague: Do I sound smart, or am I smart?
Dark: You sound unbearable, to be perfectly honest.
#
Negative: I’m gonna die alone.
Hypno: Negative, you’re not gonna die alone.
Negative: Rainbow was my safety net, okay? They got married and now I have to get a snake.
Dark: Uh-huh. Why is that?
Negative: If I’m gonna be an old lonely person, I’m gonna need a thing, you know? A hook. Like that guy in the subway who eats his own face.
Negative: So I figured I’ll be “Crazy Man With A Snake”, you know? Crazy snake man.
Negative: Then I’ll get more snakes, call them my babies. Kids won’t walk past my place, they will run! RUN AWAY FROM CRAZY SNAKE MAN!
#
Memory, planning a group disguise: You cannot be Blake Bortles.
Reverse: Fine! Then I’ll be Jake-
Positive, under their breath: Don’t say Jortles.
Reverse: Jortles! And I work at the molotov cocktail department.
#
Purple: I'm so tired of this life. I want to be a roomba. I want knives taped to me. And I want to be set loose.
#
Infinity: *chokes on something*
Plague: Jeez, Infinity, don't die on us.
Infinity: Don't tell me what to do, I'll die whenever the hell I want!
#
Sabre: So, everyone, what does a story NEED?
Lucas: A character!
Rainbow: A setting!
Bee, a gleam in their eyes, in a near-whisper: REVENGE.
#
Alex: Do you have any skeletons in your closet?
Sabre: Literally or figuratively?
Alex: I have to specify?
#
Ghost: I taught the dog a new trick. *throws ball* Fetch!
Dog: *just stands there*
Infinity: He didn’t do it.
Ghost: I taught him to ignore social conventions and think for himself.
#
Origin: Alex, my old friend!
Alex: I think you tried to kill me at some point.
Origin: That was obviously just my way of getting to know you.
#
Rainbow, watching Lucas do something stupid: Sabre, you're officially only the second highest risk here.
Sabre: Hell yeah! I'm gonna—
Rainbow: Don't finish that sentence, you'll move back up.
#
Galaxy: I don’t know, they just don’t seem interested...
Emerald: Did you try talking to them?
Galaxy:
Galaxy: Try what?
#
Blue: What are your three best qualities?
Diamond: I’m hot, I have soft hair, and sometimes I cry because I love my friends.
#
Faceless: I have lots of friends!
Lucas: Name one.
Faceless: Well, there’s-
Lucas: Name one you haven’t gotten incredibly angry at.
Faceless: Hey, that’s not fair, then there isn’t any!
#
Bee: Are you reading fan fiction?
Plague, reading an article about extremely rare diseases: Wh- No.
Bee: Oh, is it on AO3?
Plague: This is CNN.
#
Rainbow: I’m 80% awesome 20% water and 100% handsome.
Plague: That’s 200%.
Rainbow: I’m twice the man you’ll ever be.
#
Guardian: Look, I know we don’t always see eye to eye but—
Sabre: Thats because your too short to do so.
Guardian: ...Listen here you fucking—
#
Alex: It’s Pride Month, you know what that means!
Prof. Red: I get to eat as many Skittles as I want?
Alex: What? No! What has Yellow been telling you?
Yellow, walking in, pouring Skittles into their mouth: Taste the rainbow, bitch.
#
Yellow, Entering Emerald's room: Prof. Red did it again.
Emerald: Peace disturbance?
Yellow: What no-
Emerald: Arson..?
Yellow: NO, JESUS CHRIST, HOW MANY-
Emerald: uh....Attempted murder?
Yellow: NO, THEY ATE ALL THE FOOD IN THE FRIDGE, BUT WHAT THE FU-
#
Void: If I say yes am I joining a cult?
Origin: Possibly.
Void: I’m in.
#
Lucas: When I first met you, I thought you were weird and annoying.
Sabre: And?
Lucas: And you are.
#
Diamond: You know what bothers me? Bats. Why can bats fly?
Alex: Not again!
Diamond: No. Seriously, who gave them the right? They're mammals! Mammals walk on land, no exceptions.
Sabre: Just wait until you hear about whales.
Diamond: What now?
#
Alex: If you aren't someone the church wanted dead 300 years ago, are you really living?
#
Green: Plants have feelings too?! What is this? Now I can't have food!
Overseer: You can eat a rock.
Ghost: Air.
Alex: The fabric of time and space.
Sabre: Chugging a bottle of bleach can solve all your problems.
Green: You guys are not helpful.
#
Guardian: Just be yourself. Say something nice.
Sabre: Which one? I can't do both.
#
*Bullying Prevention Day at school*
Teacher: Light, what would you do if one of your classmates viciously teased you again and again?
Light: Oh, that’s easy. I’d take a pencil out of my pencil case—
Teacher: To write something to your teacher?
Light: —make sure that it’s really sharp, and ram it into their eye at full tilt! My dad always says the pencil is mightier than the sword because they can’t outlaw bringing pencils to school!
Teacher: *internal screaming*
#
Blue, being robbed: Please! Have mercy! I have a family! A wife and kids… a dog…
Emerald: Literally none of that is true, Blue.
Blue: Okay, but I’m sexy! That’s gotta count for something, right?
#
Positive: The time to act is now.
Positive: Wink, wink.
Negative: Don't say "wink wink". Just wink.
Positive: Oh, sorry.
Positive: Wink.
#
Ghost: Hypno, you’re such a genius!
Hypno: Yes, I know.
#
Memory as a child: I can’t wait to grow up and have cool adventures!
Memory now: I can’t wait to go to bed.
#
Sabre: Met a dumbass today. Awful.
Origin: You looked in a mirror?
Sabre: Someday you will have to answer for your actions and god may not be so merciful.
#
Galaxy: *lying down and crying*
Bee: There, there. Why don’t you take some time off to not be around me while you’re like this?
#
Bee: What did you get on your shirt?
Light: Rust.
Bee: From what?
Light: Weapons.
Guardian: Time for more adult supervision.
#
Positive: That’s the longest worm I’ve ever seen.
Memory: That’s a snake.
#
Prof. Red: Quick! You must come with me! Your in great danger!
Sabre: Why?!
Prof. Red: Because I’ll kill you if you don’t.
#
Yellow: Alex just said "I have an appetite for destruction" and then they reached down and untied my shoe.
#
Plague: My expectations were low but holy fuck.
#
Emerald: I truly hate it here <3
Hypno: Now replace “it” with “women”. Not so funny now, is it?
Galaxy: Now replace “it” with “women”. Not so funny now, is women?
Bee: Now replace “funny” with “women”. Not so women now, is funny?
Guardian: I’m having a fucking stroke.
Galaxy: Now replace “stroke” with “baby”. Congratulations!
#
(After word of Sabre's sacrifice spread to the Spirit Realm)
Purple: Life could be worse, Rainbow.
Rainbow: Life could be a lot better too!
#
*Sabre and Lucas are in Paris.*
Sabre: I'm...moved. I...I don't know what it is I'm feeling right now. I feel...destiny?
Lucas: But...
Sabre: I don't know what it is. I feel like... I just never thought I'd see it with my own two eyes. And here it is. It's just there. It's right in front of me, and...
Lucas: This is what you wanted to see? The bridge from Inception?
Sabre: Yeah.
Lucas: But the Eiffel Tower is behind us.
Sabre: Yeah, but this is the bridge FROM INCEPTION.
Lucas: Okay, alright.
#
Hypno: I don’t have anything against you, but I can make up lots of reasons to attack you!!
#
Lucas: Thanks for pulling the fire alarm, you saved me from giving an oral report about The Scarlet Web.
Sabre: You were too lazy to read the book?!
Lucas: I was too lazy to watch the movie.
#
Light: My favorite thing about big dogs is that when you push them over, they're all like "Oh, I'm lying down now! Someone might scratch my stomach! I might nap! Endless possibilities!"
Sabre: ...whereas, when you push little dogs over, they're all like, "Vengeance! Death before dishonor!"
Elemental, not looking up from his book: Hm, just like you.
Sabre: *Throws a knife next to his head*
#
*The TV is freaking out*
Lucas: Don’t worry, you have to treat an electronic like you treat a patient on life support.
*Unplugs the TV, then plugs it back in again. nothing changes*
Lucas: Yeah, that didn’t work with my grandma either.
#
Elemental: If bees can be fish and boys can be girls, then why can't my dad love me?
Sabre: I thought I was going to have to yell at you, but now I think I should hug you.
#
Hypno: Why do you act like we’re three year olds?
Sabre, exasperated: WHY?!?
Sabre points at Bee: YOU TRIED TO HYJACK A CAR!
Sabre points at Emerald: YOU NEARLY JUMPED 20 FEET OFF A CARPARK!
Sabre points at Hypno: AND YOU ATE MULTIPLE DRIED LEAVES AND ROCKS OFF THE GROUND!
Sabre: AND YOU ASK ME WHY????
#
Positive: Reverse tooth fairy where you leave money under your pillow and the tooth fairy comes and leaves you a bunch of teeth.
Guardian: Why?
Positive, shaking a bag of teeth: Just because.
#
Yellow: Can we talk? One 10 to another?
Purple: I’m an 11, but continue.
#
Bee: I think I need a hug...
Rainbow: Good thing I'm hug shaped!
*45 minutes later*
Bee: You... you can let go now.
Rainbow: No, I absolutely cannot.
#
Hypno: If you put 'violently' in front of anything to describe your action, it becomes funnier.
Hypno: Violently practices.
Purple: Violently studies.
Time: Violently sleeps.
Red: Violently shoots pictures.
Galaxy: Violently boxes.
Lucas: Violently murders people.
Time: Violently worries about the previous statement.
#
Light: *gets a text* Oh! It’s Sabre.
Illusion, excitedly: Did they get me the stuff?
Light: Yeah, they say they got you the clown costume, the power drill, and 12 gallons of blood.
Illusion: Wow! Where’d they find 12 gallons of fake blood?
Light: You wanted fake blood?
Illusion:
Light: I’ll go call Sabre.
#
Red: Bee, I have a couple of words to say to you.
Guardian: Please let those two words be “I’m sorry.”
Sabre: I’m ready with the bleep button if not.
Chapter 2: Rainbow Quest
Chapter Text
Violet Leader: Maybe the real monster was the friends we both literally and figuratively murdered along the way.
#
Sabre: I'm a nice person, but I'm about to start throwing rocks at people.
#
Sabre: If you kill me, my teeth only have a 2% drop rate.
TFC: What?
Sabre: Good luck.
#
Light, filling out legal paperwork: Were you guys born AMAB or AFAB?
Rainbow: Bold of you to assume I was born at all.
Hypno: I personally was created in a lab.
Sabre: I just straight up spawned lol.
#
Blue Leader: Will Sabre be okay?
Light: He won’t be when I find him.
#
Rainbow: I dunno if I'm ready to process the ramifications of this bullshit.
#
Elemental: *about Loud and Nerdy* They make a cute couple, huh?
Time: They certainly are standing next to each other.
#
Green: I’m genuinely surprised you haven’t gotten arrested, let alone gotten a felony yet.
Sabre and Orange: Nat 20 Charisma.
Green: That is NOT how that works-
#
Sabre: I'm an involved father, I want to hear from my creations a good bit.
Origin:
Origin: You forgot you created me.
#
Sabre: I love the term 'partners'. Are we dating? Are we robbing a bank? Are we the dedicated detectives who investigate these vicious felonies and are members of an elite squad known as the special victims unit? Who knows.
#
Orange Leader: Don't ask me what I'm talking about. I don't know, okay? I'm just the vessel. The message has been gifted. I've moved on.
#
Galaxy: I see the red flags, I acknowledge that they're there, and then I completely ignore them.
#
Blue Leader: Stop failing.
Sabre: Don’t tell me what to do! I'll fail right now!
Sabre: *Succeeds*
Sabre: Dang it!
#
Sabre: Hey there demons, It's me, ya boi.
Light: Sabre, NO!
#
Shabre: My ultimate goal is to punch God in the eye, just to spite him one last time.
#
Blue Leader: You look good in that hoodie.
Indigo Leader: You know where else I'd look good?
Blue Leader, zero hesitation: My bed.
Indigo Leader, at the same time: By your side- wait, what?
#
Murderer: Any last words?
Rainbow: Do you think I'm cute? Be honest.
#
Origin: You know what?
Origin: When I join this friend group I thought you guys would be dealing with my bullshit.
*Red, Great Librarian and Dark continue screaming about mold water*
Origin: Not the other way around.
Sabre: I dunno, sounds like you need to drink the mold water.
#
Indigo Leader: I'm hot, I’m tall, I'm gay, and I'm on my theatre kid arc.
#
Dark: I drink to forget but I always remember.
Hypno: You're drinking orange juice.
#
Light: It’s gonna be okay, Time. Sabre's strong.
Time: Oh, I'm not worried about him. I'm worried for whoever had to deal with that now.
Light: Wha-?
Village Leader: When I told Sabre that Dark was taken, he went back to the cottage, apparently took a shot of straight vodka, grabbed a weapon, and headed out without a word.
Light: *Fear*
Time: Dark and Sabre will be back before sunset.
#
Soul: Yeah, well I've never died so how do I know that god is real.
#
Yellow: Th-that was horrible! Your wish is horrible! You’re horrible! You’re an irredeemable monster!
Sol: Woah, woah! What took you so long, idiot?!
#
Sabre, to Faceless: You're not Mario. Lets get something fucking straight, you're Luigi at best.
#
Yellow Leader: So, Sabre, do you have a crush on anyone?
Sabre: The only crush I have is this crushing anxiety.
#
Prof. Red: I wasn't hurt that badly. The doctor said all my bleeding was internal, that's where the blood's supposed to be!
#
Sabre: I have a plan.
Green Leader: Good! As long as we aren’t breaking the law again, I’m open to hearing it.
Sabre: …
Green Leader: …
Sabre: I no longer have a plan.
Chapter 3: Command Block
Notes:
The Colorless Guards found something. Sabre recognizes it.
Chapter Text
Light walked in the door, guards in tow with the odd object they'd found. The leaders were in their respective seats and Sabre stood in his usual spot by the window.
The leaders stared at the mysterious block the guards had just placed down, most just as confused as he was. M, of course, looked intrigued and Sabre, oddly enough, looked almost excited. Light supposed it could be similar to something in his world, he always did get like that when he found something familiar.
Yellow Leader was the first to break the silence, "What is that?" Light told them about how some guards found this while patrolling the forest outside of the kingdom.
Both Sabre and M got more excited as Light spoke. M gave a soft, "Fascinating" as he got up and inspected the block closer after being told it was safe to do. Sabre, however, looked like he was practically vibrating. He was grinning wide as he stepped closer as well. Blue Leader also noticed his excitement, "You know what this is, Sabre?"
Sabre somehow got more excited as he delved into the explanation of what the object is, "This is a command block! Not sure how one ended up here, but this is amazing! It's used to enter commands by either fitting the criteria for it or hooking a button to it."
This just serves to further confuse everyone else in the room, besides M, who apparently knew at least a bit about what Sabre was talking about, "Oh, you mentioned commands before. How do you do those again?"
"Oh, you pull up the console and enter the slash, then whatever you want to do" At the mention of the console, Sabre looked as if he had forgotten the others were there and had just remembered them. After some prodding from Orange, Yellow, and Green, he gave in and agreed to show them the console.
He swiped his right hand and pulled up an odd, glowing screen. M moved closer to him to see it, Sabre moving the console between them.
"This is the console. It lets me put in different commands that can do quite a lot, honestly. The command block makes it so you don't have to keep inputting the same command".
Indigo asked the next question, "What can you do with these commands? Surely a lot if there's something to help make it faster". Sabre nodded and began to list the power commands held, "Oh, there's /summon, which can summon mobs, lightning, entities, maybe people, but I've never tried it. There's /time which is to set the time of day, /weather to change the weather, and /gamemode to change gamemode".
Violet spoke up next, hardly letting him finish his sentence, "So, you've had some sort of powers this whole time? And you just sat back all these months? What does gamemode even mean?" He was furious at the perception of Sabre letting everyone do the work for him.
Light was also furious, but not at Sabre. No, he was fuming that Violet would ever suggest that. M looked like he shared the sentiment.
Sabre seemed upset as well, firing back, "Don't you think I would have done something if I could have? Why do you think I couldn't break blocks? I spent HOURS trying to fix that, but my console broke when I went into the tomb. I've looked at it, Time and Elemental have looked at it, M and the Professor have looked at it! It's broken and I can't do anything about it right now. The only thing that's even semi functional is the damn menu, and just barely! So don't EVER suggest that again, you selfish fuck".
Everyone, including M and the nearby guards, was shocked at Sabre's outburst. Though, Light held a sort of pride in his friend for sticking up for himself when he would usually stay quiet.
M put his hand on Sabre's shoulder, the small touch calming the man. "Sorry for yelling, but I'm not sorry about what I said. That's hella rude to say that I would sit back and just watch my friends get hurt and do nothing. I just am physically unable to do anything about it. Typically, I'd call my friend, but I can't contact him. So please, don't say anything like that again".
Violet didn't back down, not even after he got over the shock of Sabre snapping back, "Well, why wouldn't I? You could at least tell someone about this instead of just keeping it to yourself!"
Sabre's demeanor shifted, not angry, but there was something there that Light just could place, "Why do you think I just told you now? It's finally come up and the solution is sitting in the middle of the room! So if you would pipe down and let me explain further, you would understand. So, do I have to treat you like a damn child and have you sit in the corner, or are you going to shut up and pay attention?"
Violet, Orange, Yellow, and Green were all stunned. Blue, Indigo, and M were also shocked, but on the verge of giggling. Light himself was busy analyzing how Sabre had shifted his presence so quickly. Before, he was just simply Sabre, his friend and a sort of little brother figure. Now, however, his stance alone commanded respect and authority. He certainly had it.
Sabre shifted, his posture relaxed, and he cleared his throat, "Uh, sorry about that, again. Had some people back home that I had to act like that with. Again, sorry for getting upset like that. How about we all take a chill pill, yeah?"
Violet nodded and mumbled something akin to an apology, to which Indigo elbowed him and made him speak clearly.
Orange cleared his throat, "Sabre, you said the command block was a solution? Could you fix your console with it?"
Sabre perked up as the block was brought up again, gladly going back to the old conversation, "Maybe, I'll try some fixes later. But I was mostly talking about how I can enter commands with this- I can actually be useful when there's a situation!"
Light interjected, "Sabre, you're always useful. Sure, you haven’t been able to use your commands, but you still have some of the best swordsman ship I've ever seen. And you always extend mercy and kindness to just about anyone".
Sabre didn't quite know how to react to the praise, he never really did. M piped up, "Not to mention, you're just a really great friend. We don't care if you can use those commands or not". M gave him a quick side hug, knowing how Sabre is with affection sometimes.
Sabre sniffled slightly, "Um, r-right. Anyway, cool if I take this?" He pointed to the command block and Light nodded his head. "I'm pretty sure you're the only person that can use this, so sure. I do have some more questions, and I'm sure everyone else does, too".
Sabre nodded, "Of course, fam. Just come and find me and I'll tell ya what ya wanna know". Sabre picked up the block and started for the door, as did others.
Light mumbled under his breath, "As long as you don't jump out of a window the second we ask".
He, however, forgot that Sabre's hearing is much better than a Steve's and heard what he said.
Chapter 4: Command Block: Side Step
Chapter Text
Rainbow closed the tab he had open, furious. He cued back into Galaxy, Alex, Overseer, and Light playing behind him as the scene he just watched replayed in his mind.
Those excuses of Steves had no idea how to treat a friend. Sabre wasn't safe there, not even happy. He stayed just to fight for them, and they weren't even grateful!
He stood up from his position in the grass, alerting the others. They could tell his mood was sour- he wasn't trying to hide it, anyway.
"Something happen with Sabre?", Alex stayed steady as Rainbow delved into the latest way Sabre had been disrespected. That Violet "Leader" was really getting on his nerves.
Light came up and hugged him, hoping to calm his brother down. He missed Sabre more than Rainbow himself. That was to be expected, considering Sabre is his creator and Light saw him as his father.
Rainbow ended his rant and hugged Light back, giving a sigh of frustration. Overseer gently patted his shoulder while Galaxy gave a look of understanding (for once in his life).
Rainbow knew that the second they lost Sabre, they would only then begin to appreciate him and the work he did. He was so upset only getting to see his best friend through a screen.
He squeezed Light a tad bit tighter, placed his head on his brother's shoulder, and wished so desperately that he could get to that world and see Sabre aga-
Wait.
He could.
Rainbow's head shot up so quickly that he nearly headbutted Light. He had a huge smile on his face and he knew the gleam in his eyes matched it.
Overseer and Alex already seemed tired, seemingly feeling the crazy plan he was about to share. Like how Sabre used to.
Galaxy had no idea what was about to happen, but he was already matching the enthusiasm.
"Galaxy, you can track which world Sabre is in by following his energy, right?" Rainbow hoped Galaxy would get it, but with his thick skull? Not likely.
Galaxy, as expected, just seemed confused and nodded along. Rainbow turned to Light, "You remember the portal Sabre and Lucas built to travel servers?" Light also appeared confused, but slowly began to understand. Hope filled his bright eyes as he nodded.
Overseer picked it up next, "Wait, are you going to make a portal to that world?" Alex finally clocked his plan as Rainbow started going over what materials they would need for such a powerful machine.
"Well, we're gonna need a few people if we want this thing to work. The last thing we want is for it be built wrong and blow up or not be powerful enough" Alex was pensive as she ran through the list of the Steves they knew who were good with machinery- Rainbow, Galaxy, and herself covered any additional power they would require.
"Mhm. Bee picked up on machines quickest, so we'll need him, for sure. Professor and Emerald are also good choices considering they work on and around machines all the time. Now, it's just a matter of getting everyone on board and gathering the materials!" Rainbow was beside himself with excitement. If everything worked out, they would get to see Sabre again!
Overseer started a race back to the New Rainbow Town. As they crossed through the gate, Rainbow prepared a notebook to plan the portal, a habit he picked up from Sabre. Memories of watching the player pace around a room as he thought out a machine danced past his eyes.
He blinked, getting rid of the few tears that had gathered, and reminded himself that he would get to see it all again soon.
Chapter 5: Command Block: Crossing
Chapter Text
Nearly a month had gone by since Sabre had gotten his hands on the command block. He spent hours over the keyboard, Entering commands to fix his broken console and menu.
He had managed to get his console near fully operational, but his menu...that was the problem. He got the sound, the render distance, everything.
Except for the log out button.
After what had to be the 100th time trying to apply a fix, he felt just about ready to rip his hair out. Sabre thanked every god he could remember that Shadow was no longer bound to him- he would've been doubled over, cackling at Sabre's misfortune.
The player ran a hand through his hair, careful of the knot keeping the blindfold on, and leaned back in his chair. He hadn't been able to stop thinking about the others.
Playing games with Rainbow and Light during downtime, reading as he listened to Galaxy and Rainbow bicker, befriending Alex, helping to redeem Nightmare.
He recalled that last memory with a slight smile. He had just stepped out of the machine, once again a Yellow Steve, except for the deep black scar running from under his eye to his hairline. Sabre had said he was proud of the change, hugged him, and held and comforted the former Nightmare as he sobbed into his shoulder.
Sabre wondered what he changed his name to, since he was no longer the fearsome being that slaughtered endlessly.
A knock on the front door pulled him from his reminiscing as he jumped from his chair and headed downstairs. The knocking got more frantic the longer he took. If he were still in the Rainbow Kingdom, he would've grabbed a weapon before doing anything. But I'm safe here, Sabre reminded himself.
He opened the door to a very nervous-looking Light. The bright Steve let out the smallest exhale of relief upon seeing the blindfolded man. This only served to confuse and kinda concern Sabre; not many things got his friend to this point.
"Sabre, thanks for answering. And sorry for knocking like that, but it's urgent" Sabre chuckled at Light's odd demeanor, but quickly focused at the mention of a problem.
"Is everything aight, man? You said something's urgent, what do you know about the situation already?" He was in hyderdrive, he needed to solve this issue before it became even worse.
"Come with me, the leaders have been briefed and are being brought to the site," Light led Sabre out of the village, towards the problem that was discovered, "There's this odd structure some guards stationed at an outpost found. It seems almost like a portal of sorts. You, obviously, have the most experience with portals and other worlds, so I was hoping you would be able to identify it and that command block would be able to help close it if needed. Speaking of which, how has the fixing gone?"
Sabre had been instantly intrigued at the mention of the portal, but was excited to talk about the block, "Honestly, I've been ready to crash out. I got most stuff fixed, so there's not much need for the command block right now. But the menu keeps bugging me, the fixes won't take" he ran another frustrated hand through his slightly messy hair.
Light placed a gentle hand on the human's shoulder, "I'm sorry, I know you were really looking forward to fixing everything. At least you have part of your abilities back, you can always be happy about that!" Light paused, confusion evident, "and what in the World Beyond does crash out mean?"
Sabre cracked a smile, ready to reply with an answer that would only serve to further confuse his friend, but then he saw what the fuss was about.
The portal wasn't huge, about two blocks bigger than a Nether portal. But, it was decorated with conductive blocks like redstone, iron, and gold. Colored glass enclosed a battery-like heap of redstone. Most oddly, end rods and quartz surrounded it at different points. It reminded him of the machines he would make in the Saga. The nostalgic feelings came back stronger.
The leaders surrounded the portal, accompanied by Colorless Guards. Indigo noticed him first, "Sabre!" He jogged up to Sabre and Light, meeting them as the two approached, "Do you have any idea what this is?" Sabre cautiously approached the portal, circling it. It was definitely a machine. Someone was likely planning on reaching another world or area with it.
Just as he was about to say so, the machine began to change. Redstone dust was lining itself, levers placing on their own. Sabre stepped back in shock as Blue pulled him away at the same time, causing him to stumble a bit.
"What in the name of Origin is this!?" Yellow's shout broke everyone from their trance. Sabre pulled the command block from his inventory.
"I don't think we can stop this thing from being built, or even activating. The most I can do is cut the connection once something dangerous comes through" He set down the block, inputting a command to shut down the portal and prepared to enter it.
"That’s all!?" Violet's shriek of panic resounded through the valley, "We just have to watch as some unknown entity comes through?" Sabre nodded as the situation set in for everyone- they had to prepare for a possible battle or retreat.
Bee and Alex guided people where to put everything while Emerald and Professor Red checked the portal was stable throughout the process. Rainbow was taking a break as he had built a good portion earlier.
He had a tab open, going through Sabre's recent postings of the adventures and battles he had in RQ. He had yet to catch up, as he wanted context before he viewed Sabre's current going ons.
His jealousy had stopped spiking every time he saw thier counterparts getting close with Sabre. Now, his anger problems are the issue. Every time Sabre was discriminated against, a rude comment thrown his way, or he was needlessly judged. He was glad Sol had been dealt with, otherwise he would deal with him himself. He still might once they all cross.
"It's pretty much done" Overseer's voice cut through the working noise. The two scientists confirmed it was stable and ready, just waiting to be powered.
Rainbow, Alex, and Galaxy all stepped up to their makeshift podiums. They gave each other brief nods and placed their hands on the end rods in front of them- normal iron bars wouldn't work for such a powerful machine needing so much power.
A thunderstorm started as the three used their power to activate the portal.
The portal began to spark
The group jumped at the whirring noise as the mysterious machine began establishing a connection. M stepped closer to Sabre as the brunette's hand hovered over the enter button.
Sabre knew something was off. This all felt too familiar. Then, he felt the energy.
It was the others.
The three of them charged the portal, only daring to step back once Overseer yelled over the thunder and lightning. They were all a bit tired, but were still plenty energized. The portal was lit, and they were seeing their friend and savior again.
Light grabbed Rainbow's sleeve, alerting him that he wanted to say something. Instead of sign language, as he expected when he turned his head, Light spoke, "Will we really get to see Sabre again?"
Rainbow smiled, placing his hand on top of his brother's, "Yes".
Alex clapped, twice, then once. Everyone present, even Hypno and Illusion, copied. Rainbow and Galaxy both always giggled every time it was done.
"Okay, remember that we're going into an unknown world with unknown Steves. Rainbow, you know the most, are you okay with going first?" His enthusiastic nod was enough for her to step back and clear the path for him. Light followed a few places behind.
He took a deep breath, clenched and unclenched his fists, and stepped through.
Chapter 6: Command Block: Crossing 2
Chapter Text
Something was coming through. No one could see what yet, but the portal was warping as something crossed through. Blue glanced toward Sabre, who had removed his hand from the command block and looked oddly hopeful. Blue steadied himself and his breathing. Sabre knew what was going on more than likely.
The portal made a soft vwoop noise and someone stepped through. It...it was Rainbow. But, Rainbow's soul was still in the World Beyond. This wasn't their hero. This one looked a but different, too. Slightly longer and curlier hair puffed around ears with unfamiliar earrings. His fellow leaders looked at him, gathering the observation from his expression.
The lookalike glanced around with disdain, at least until he found Sabre's gaze (Blue couldn't really tell, he could never clock where Sabre was looking unless his head was turned).
Sabre was smiling wide, the smile getting wider as more lookalikes came through. One similar to Light, one to Galaxy, and then an odd woman that Blue had never seen.
All of the portal-travellers wore identical smiles to Sabre. Then, Light's lookalike dashed towards the non-steve. The others quickly followed, creating a pile that knocked Sabre down.
Sabre hugged the Light copycat tight and leaned into the others' touch. It was a bit surreal to see Sabre, someone who famously slinked away from touch, being hugged so tight for so long.
Shortly, he sat up, still clinging to the Light copycat, "Alright, breathing's a thing, guys" the Galaxy copycat lightly shoved Sabre's shoulder, "We haven't seen you in, like, four years! You're dealing with the cuddlepile!" Sabre leaned his head back and laughed.
Orange felt like he was having a stroke. Their counterparts not only didn't have orange, indigo, or violet Steves, but their blue Steves also looked different.
This wasn't what was truly making his head spin, however. It was the stark personality shifts between the two versions of Light.
The one he knew and loved was calm, level-headed, and outwardly strong. The one coming from the portal was none of those.
The other Light was quiet, shy, and very clingy- he honestly looked very sweet. But, when he said clingy, he meant clingy.
Everyone had decided to meet with the leaders of the village Sabre lived in as they apparently had a separate meeting room they were working on. It was something about Sabre telling them more about where he came from and it being important that too much information didn't get out (Orange tried not to feel jealous that random Steves Sabre had known for a fraction of the time Sabre knew him qualified for that information and he didn't. Orange knew that a lot of their trust was lost, and he was working towards fixing it).
They all began the journey to the village to ask to use the meeting room and get the village leaders to be present as well. That was all fine, but the Light copycat wouldn't let go of Sabre. This was apparently normal, as Sabre hardly reacted when he scooped the bright Steve up, moving him on his back. So now, instead of only having to get used to Sabre accepting prolonged touch, there was also a near copy of Light hanging on to him.
This was going to be a long walk.
There was no way any of this was real.
Yellow kept glancing behind him, making sure none of this was a hallucination. He may have preferred the hallucination.
Yellow wasn’t an idiot, he knew that he and the other leaders no longer had the best relationship with Sabre. He also knew he was one of the reasons for it and he would do anything to make it right.
But there was no way these new guys knew all of that, right? But there's also no other reason for them to all act this way.
Yellow gave a look backward again. Yup, they were all still in their protective circle around Sabre. Light's doppelganger was still securely on the human's back, but glaring at anyone not in their group.
As if on cue, the steve turned his glare on him, causing Yellow to turn away.
This meeting was going to be awkward...
Rainbow eased up as he saw they were approaching the village. These people were good to Sabre, understood what he did for all of them.
Time's counterpart was reading near the outskirts, looking up at the sound of so many footsteps. He looked startled at first, then really confused. Rainbow and those near him moved aside, revealing Sabre (And if he accidentally almost tripped the Violet Leader, no one commented).
Time's doppelganger looked relieved to see his friend, but it quickly faded into more confusion at seeing Sabre carrying Light on his back. He glanced between the two versions of Light, gaze sweeping over all of the Saga group.
Finally, he spoke, "Hey, uh, Sabre? What's going on?" He gestured with his hand to the circle of Steves and non-Steves alike.
"Hey, Time," Sabre shifted Light off his back, holding him close, "Uh, you know that other world I told you about? These guys are from that world" Time nodded, getting up and closing his book.
"Could you keep an eye on everyone for a sec while I grab the village leaders?" At Time's agreement, Sabre let go of Light and began to walk into the village, the bright steve clinging onto him.
Sabre looked back at him and smiled, grabbing his hands, "Only for a second, I'll be right back, m'kay?" Rainbow came up and gently grabbed his brother, pulling him away. At that, Sabre disappeared into the bustling village.
Sabre was ecstatic. His old friends were back and he got to spend time with them, just like he used to.
Not everything was all smiles, though. Rainbow's jealousy problem was already making waves. He saw the glares his colorful friend gave the second he stepped out of the portal and how he nearly tripped Violet when he broke the circle.
Speaking of the circle, what had gotten into them all? He was even sure that Light was glaring at people from atop his back- he saw the way Yellow had turned away.
This is gonna be difficult, he thought as he came up to one of the villagers that were free to talk.
"Oh, hey, Sabre! What do ya need?" The green Steve, nicknamed Bloom for their excellence with plant care, was cheerful as they greeted him.
Sabre smiled at him, "Hey, Bloom. Do you know where the leaders are? I have something important to discuss with them"
Bloom pointed him in the right direction and Sabre took off with a quick thanks.
When Sabre finally found them, they had just finished sorting something with two villagers.
The Violet village leader, Lavender, saw him first, bounding over, "Sabre!" The two shared and quick hug as the Yellow and Green village leaders, Blaze and Lush, came over.
"Hey, Time told us that Light came to grab you earlier today. Is everything okay? What was it about?" Lush was looking over him, subtly searching for injuries.
"Well, I'm not sure how to answer that. Just...remember how I told you I could travel to other worlds?" Blaze gestured for him to continue, "Well, my friends from the last world I was in built some portal. They're here, just outside the village. I wanted to grab y'all for a meeting with everyone, at the other meeting room"
"Oh! Of course, lead the way. We're happy to meet your friends!" The three followed Sabre out to where the others were waiting. Time had kept them occupied by asking questions about them and their names. He was talking with Alex and his counterpart when the four walked up.
"Hi! Really good to meet you!" Lavender's excited greeting threw a few of them off, not used to how overwhelming and excitable violet Steves could be. Overseer came up and shook hands with each of the village leaders. After short greetings (and checking that Light was content with relatching onto him), they started for the other meeting room.
Red eyes opened slowly, the being they belonged to laying spread out on the ground. He being shook his head, getting rid of the drowsiness.
He looked around, seeing the foliage he was surrounded by. He decided to scope out the area before he made any serious noise, didn't want to risk anything hostile being nearby.
Checking that the area was safe, he made a quick shelter. He paced around his small shelter, trying to get his thoughts in order.
First things first, figure out how he was back.
Chapter 7: Command Block: Meet
Chapter Text
The other meeting room wasn't much, it was just a building with a large table. Luckily, the table was big enough to fit everyone. The room was made large so people could move around and burn some energy (and so Sabre could stand on random things as he liked. None of the three village leaders knew why he was like that, but they accommodated none the less. Multiple meetings there had been held with them all standing on the table).
Lush sat nearby Sabre, his friends similar to Light and Rainbow on both sides of the human. Once everyone was settled, Sabre sat up, arms folded across his chest. As he spoke, his tone was serious, leaving no room for disagreement.
"I'm gonna say this once and once only. I want no hostility. I'm not saying you have to be friends or even friendly. Feel free to piss each other off all you like, but if it escalates, I will personally deal with it. Understood?" Lush knew a threat when he heard one. He quickly confirmed he understood and the other-worlders did as well. It took the leaders of the kingdom a second, but they gave their hesitant confirmation.
Sabre relaxed, the authoritative posture gone. He went back to the silly friend they know and love. It was a little disorienting, would be even more so if Lush didn't know what the man did in his own world.
The blue steve from the portal cleared his throat, "Well, I think we should do something about names. Some of us, like Alex and I, are good to go by our own names. Most of you, however, have a counterpart. We should do nicknames to avoid confusion. "
The Time counterpart nodded, "Yeah, it was a bit odd to see a different version of me, and confusing for both of us to go by 'Time'."
The Elemental doppelganger piped up, "I say we call you Pocketwatch!" This got some laughs as there were a few shouts of agreement. Pocketwatch sighed, putting his head in his hands, "I fucking hate you" He brightened up a second later, "We can call you Tefiti!"
This earned an indignant shout, "FROM FUCKING MOANA!?" Sabre was doubled over, shaking with laughter, as were many others. He himself was laughing into his hands.
Everyone had eventually calmed down and the name Tefiti was accepted "only because she was awesome". Lush didn't quite understand what either of those names were, but it held meaning to them, so he wasn't going to question it.
There was a bit more discussion of names, both Light's choosing different ones- the one from this world was going by Frost, the other going by Flurry, the odd yellow steve of the group made his current nickname known, Bee, and the oddities of their group made their names known- Alex, Overseer, Guardian, and Emerald.
Then it came down to those whose counterparts were dead or otherwise gone. Rainbow shared that his nickname was Rain, as he had always been Rainbow Steve, unlike the one from this world. Lush and several others found that very interesting.
The Ghost Steve counterpart was surprised he had a counterpart, so he chose the name Spectre, as he also had trouble remembering who he was.
The Great Librarian decided to simply go by Librarian, as no other name suggestions really fit.
It was when the debate on Galaxy's name started that things starting going downhill. Sabre suggested Supernova due to an incident in that world, which was all good until Rain chimed in.
"How about Airhead?" Sabre just gave an exasperated look as Galaxy leaned over to see Rain. The two were separated by Bee and Pocketwatch, so he didn't have to lean too far.
"Just saying, if we're going by incidents, that's a very fitting name!" Galaxy and Rain started a back and forth, voices escalating, but not to the point of being worrying.
When Lush looked back to Sabre to see if he was going to do anything about this, he just had a tired smile. He gave a small, airy laugh, then clapped twice, then once. Rain and Galaxy both stopped talking near instantly, looked back to Sabre, and repeated the pattern.
"Never thought I would get to do that again." the exasperation still evident on his features. The two settled back down and Supernova was chosen.
Alex, like everyone else from the Saga, giggled at the scene. Rainbow and Galaxy may get along better, but they will still take any chance to argue.
"Hey, so, what was with that clap thing? Do you have them trained or something?" Blaze spoke up, raising his hand a bit. Sabre chuckled and regailed them with the story.
"Rain and Supernova would always fight when they first met. At first, I was fine shouting over them, but I realized that wasn't going to do anything after a certain point. So, I decided on a pattern that I would clap when they start arguing. Looks like they remembered it. " Sabre gave a grin to Rain and Gal, who neither of which looked guilty in the slightest. She decided to keep quiet about the fact they all knew that pattern now and that it would be funnier to wait.
Frost cleared his throat, "Well, now that names are sorted and introductions are out of the way, we really should get to what the meeting is about." he took a sweeping look around the table, "How did any of you get here? Or even know Sabre was here?"
Rainbow raised his hand, "A long time ago, Sabre gave me a certain ability to see what goes on outside of our world. I've been keeping an eye on him for a while," Sabre gave a whispered Damn it!, "We built the portal so we could see him again; it's been over four years since he was in our world. We managed to get here because Supernova can track energy signatures."
Lavender gave a pitying look, "You really haven't been back there in that long?" Sabre sighed, "Yeah, I wasn't able to go back. Before Frost and his guards found that command block, I couldn't even tell when I would be able to."
Alex gave a curious look. Rainbow, admittedly, had not told them much. He had never mentioned any guards or a command block being found. She wasn't even sure why Sabre would associate himself with guards, considering his past.
"I'm sorry, command block?" Sabre nodded at her question, pulling the block from his inventory. He sat on the back of his seat and placed the block on the table.
Frost gave no attention to the block, only towards Sabre sitting dangerously, "For Origin's sake, Sabre. How many times have I told you to not sit like that? You're gonna get hurt" Alex inwardly cringed at the mention of that name. Sure, maybe this world's Origin was better, but that name would be forever ruined in her mind.
"There's more than one way to sit on a chair! You can't tell me to pick one forever!" Sabre wore a shit-eating grin as he made no move to get down. Lush, Blaze, and Lavender had no reaction to Sabre's odd seating, so they must already be acquainted with this.
M hit a joking fist to the table, "Stop with your shenanigans, Sabre!" He laughed as he said it, putting no effort behind sounding even slightly serious.
"You cannot ask me to cease my tomfoolery!" Sabre hit his hands to his knees, also laughing.
The bit continued a bit longer until Sabre got bored and put the block away, siting in the seat normally. For now. Alex knew better than to assume this would last longer than a few minutes.
She also knew that Sabre starting acting up so no one questioned why he couldn't go back.
Sabre looked at the various Saga folk, "Oh, and my "disappearing acts" are over. The menu hasn't fucking worked since I got here" he broke into a laugh near the end of the sentence, trying to use humor to disguise the misfortune.
As her friends broke into questions, she really hoped Sabre got a fucking therapist already.
Chapter 8: Anomaly Sabre
Chapter Text
Okay, listen
I was playing Minecraft and installed a few origins mods, one being Origins++
This adds the Anomaly origin. I was thinking...
Anomaly Sabre?
Anomaly description-
Once an ancient star, now unstable energy.
Eternity: Time for you to learn what it takes to exist yet not exist simultaneously... (Prevents sleep)
Moon's Grace: You belong in the night time! Take a leap, grab a sword and use that moonlight to your advantage!
Scorching Sun: The starlight in you greatly weakens you during the day, be careful until nightfall.
Supernova: Your body is made of pure energy, so you are slightly transparent and you don't seem to have bones?..
Time? Space? Who dis?: Anomalies are highly unstable, but you can use this to your advantage; you can teleport where you want to go.
Unstable: Due to your unstable state, your body will periodically fade away causing hunger.
You can imagine how silly blindfold man would enjoy messing with the Steves like this.
Like, Sabre exits the portal and the red Steve (Scout) sees this transparent guy and just goes "what the fuck?"
HE WOULD BE SO SILLY
Orange, getting ready for bed the first night in the Rainbow Hub: *Happily going to sleep*
Sabre, jumping around and flying, generally enjoying the moonlight: Weeee!
Orange: What the fuc-
##
(Everyone's on a high place/cliff for whatever reason)
Light: Okay, we need to play this safe. Those of us that can fly, start grabbing those that can't and bringing them down one by
Sabre, running up and jumping off: YOLO!
Everyone not aware of what Sabre is: *Immediate heart attack*
##
*Galaxy and Sabre vibing being little star bois together*
##
Any villain confronting Sabre: *Going off on some evil monolouge*
Sabre, whose body just faded away: ✌
The villain: ...What
##
Rapid fire:
I VERY GREATLY FEEL THAT SABRE WOULD GLOW WITH A STARRY PATTERN AT NIGHT
Sabre carries around a parasol to keep out of direct sunlight, otherwise he gets the blindness effect
Sabre enjoys not fully telling people how he works just so he can watch them be absolutely terrified when he pulls some bs
With the strength 2 effect Sabre gets at night, he can effectively beat down a darkness creature in like 2 hits. This both amazed and terrified everyone around him
Bc Sabre is like only partially existing, lightning doesn't effect him. Just goes right through him. Nightmare gets very upset when he tries to destroy him
Every blue Steve has thought Sabre was a spirit until either he or someone else clarified. Blue Leader still has his suspicions
When hanging out with the group of orange Steves, Sabre was dragged into sunlight and just couldn't see. He sat there, blind, for over ten minutes until someone tried to show him something and he was just like "I can barely see my hand in front of me, man. Let me in the shade"
THERE WILL BE MORE OF THIS
Chapter 9: Me projecting onto Sabre
Notes:
None of this book is beta read, btw, and I usually write at school or at night, so there are plenty of errors. Pay me no mind if I'm rapidly updating, it's just me fixing my little mistakes
Chapter Text
What it says on the tin
TW: TALK OF MENTAL ILLNESS, PHYSICAL DISABILITY, AND OTHER SIMILAR THINGS INCLUDING TALK OF DEATH. DO NOT PROCEED IF UNCOMFORTABLE WITH THESE TOPICS.
I have Runner's Knee, also known as Patellafemoral Pain Syndrome. Basically the tendons that hold my knees in place are too loose. It hurts and it makes walking or even standing difficult. Running? Damn near impossible.
I also have a muscle dysfunction in my neck/shoulder area, which means I'm not as strong as I was a few years ago, holding my arms up for longer than a few seconds hurts, and my range of motion is seriously decreased.
And I have no mobility aid. The one I do have, a janky cane I bought at a garage sale, I'm not allowed to use.
There's also the mental aspect- OCD, specifically what I believe is Symmetrical OCD. This is not just "Oh I like things organized!", it's "Things need to be this exact way or I will feel wrong the entire day". OCD in general also makes me constantly think about everything that could go wrong with absolutely anything.
For example, that little overhang by the stairs? Woops, my sister could hit her head, fall down the stairs, die, and I wouldn't know!
So what do I do to cope? Make mans suffer, that's what.
The biggest issue is Sabre struggling to walk or run around much. In the hub, Orange added a bunch of seating so Sabre didn't have to constantly stand unless he was in the house. Orange also supported Sabre when they were running, helped him pick things up when they were doing chores in the Orange Village, and helped him stand up on difficult days. Orange actually made him a custom cane so he could get around on his own on bad pain days.
Now, I imagine that between Steves and humans, the nervous and muscular systems are the same. The real difference is with the skeletal system and organs. The skeletal system for Steves is instead of the tibia and fibula, it's just one bone to account for landing after flying and stuff. As for the organs, Steves, no matter AFAB or AMAB, none of them have uteruses. They also don't have an appendix. Their blood is also just a darker shade of their color/original color. This comes in at other times.
All of this to say that the Steves at least know what Sabre's disabilities are, but some of them choose to ignore it or refuse to accommodate.
Not to say Sabre couldn't defend himself, he just isn't as movable as others. He's found ways to get around his disability and lives normally.
My favorite moments in chromatic order:
When in the Red Kingdom for the first time after he made peace with Professor Red, his knees start acting up and M helps him sit down and gets him some water. Professor comes by and after asking what's wrong, offers help. Sabre gets little braces to help keep his knees in place while he walks/runs and some meds for when the pain gets too bad ^.^
When visiting the Orange Village, Orange Leader noticed how Orange would help support Sabre and keep him from tripping. Their friends also noticed. They didn't want to embarrass Sabre by asking, so they just added more places to relax and sit. Nerdy eventually asked after Sabre almost fell flat on his face and Sabre told him about his condition.
Since the Yellow Kingdom is so busy, Sabre never liked going there. Most yellows ignored Sabre in favor of going about their business, but the Yellow Assistant, the one that would eventually become Sol, outright denied Sabre had any issues. Both Orange and Saber tried to clarify, but when he still refused to believe it, the Yellow King excused himself and the assistant to another room. Everyone could hear the yelling.
The Green Village, from what I remember, went up a hill. This makes the usual aching walk more painful and very annoying. After going up a hill or up some stairs, balance is entirely thrown off and you get a bit stumbly. Can't exactly adjust a bunch of hills and upward paths. Orange and Sabre face that, and by the time they manage to get out of the cells and hold the Green Leader hostage, Sabre is almost entirely being held up by Orange.
I think that green Steves can tell when Sabre is injured or something is otherwise wrong, but because Sabre isn't a Steve, their magic doesn't work on him and persisting in using it can result in terrible side effects from the two energy types mixing in his body. That being said, they can all see and feel that Sabre is in pain and after everything is settled and calm, they basically order Sabre to sit down and proceed to check what's wrong. He has to repeatedly speak over them just so he can tell them what's wrong because they keep telling him to shush while they work. Orange stands to the side and giggles while Sabre is unbelievably peeved.
I also feel that Sabre would start physical therapy with a green Steve at some point, probably after he moved to the village.
Not much going on when Sabre gets destroyed by Nightmare and ends up in the World Beyond, but he is very surprised to find that nothing hurts and he can move without pain.
However, when the blue and indigo Steves are shut out of their worlds in the Rainbow Kingdom, the blue Steves are constantly making sure they're nearby so they can help him to sit, get him water, or get his cane. Sabre started to think they were stalking him and he got super paranoid, especially after the Corrected Sun stuff started. Blue Leader had to settle him down and reassure him that they were just grateful to him and wanted to make sure he was comfortable.
Sabre was never dead when he visited the Middle World, so he still had to deal with his loose knee caps. Remember when Indigo shot at Sabre when he got startled? Sabre tried to sidestep, but his leg gave out and he flopped to the ground. Indigo helped him up and they had a good laugh.
It was a similar story in the Rainbow Kingdom, the indigo Steves did the same thing as the blue Steves, but instead of always trying to be by his side, they were the first to jump up and help if they were around.
The violet Steves would NOT leave this poor man alone when they first met him. They would get really excited and end up accidentally shoving or crowding him, which would make Sabre lose his balance and either stumble or fall. They would, of course, apologize and help him up if he had fallen, but it would repeat a bit more before Violet Leader made them give him some space.
It was a hard 180 in the Rainbow Kingdom. They would still shove and crowd him, but instead of doing it on accident out of excitement, they did it on purpose to hurt him. They would either walk past him and try to trip him or elbow him out of the way, or they would get by both his sides and shoulder check him once or twice then leave, setting off his balance or making him fall down. Sabre tried to tell the Violet Leader about it, but he ended up gaslighting Sabre, telling him nothing was going on, or telling him that he couldn't control how his people felt.
After Sabre moved to the village and everyone calmed down a bit, Violet apologized for his behavior and even made him one of those heat packs that look like a stuffed animal to help soothe his legs.
Sabre also took great delight in showing everyone how far he could wiggle his knees around. Everyone cringed, blocked the sight with their hands, and the consensus was "Sabre, we love you, but never do that again". He threatens to do it again when he doesn't get his way in a petty situation.
As for the OCD...
Even when things were calm, Sabre would look around the hub and keep an eye on Orange, mind on constant overdrive of what could happen to him and his friends.
He would randomly blurt out an anxious thought along the lines of "but what if - and then something happens to -", which slowly clued everyone in to his mental health struggle. The green Steve that stayed in the hub offered his shoulder to cry on more than once, letting Sabre talk about how anxious he was, his thoughts being out of control, and the constant worry he felt all the time. He would cry at night, unable to stop thinking about how his friends could get hurt.
When he started talking with Therapist Green Steve, Thera, Sabre was encouraged to speak up if something started to seriously bother him. This led to Sabre being more comfortable with his silly little mind because he wasn't bottling everything up.
There was a period where someone would be making a plan and say something along the lines of, "What could go wrong?" or "What do you think?" and Sabre would pipe up with some thought of anything that could go wrong. Lightly unsettled people that he thought of that, but it would sometimes catch a flaw in the plan. Regardless, Sabre would be reassured and they would go off with their plan.
I was just lowkey not having a great time lately and needed to get this out somewhere. And if blindfold man is how it's done, then I will make blindfold man physically and mentally ill.
Chapter 10: Fuck It, Circe Sabre
Notes:
Yikes, sorry about all that last time
Resume the silly
Chapter Text
So, I've had Epic: The Musical on repeat for the last 2 weeks or so.
The song I've been listening to the most is Puppeteer, where Odysseus and his crew meet Circe.
So, naturally, I decided- Make Sabre a Circe parallel.
As one does, of course.
So, he has a cool not-exactly-palace place deep in the woods, in the middle of absolutely nowhere. And Instead of nymphs, he has the Sky People.
He and the Sky People have lived in this world for longer than even Sabre cares to remember. In that time, many groups or even singular Steves have found him and the Sky People.
He always invites them in, lets them rest, eat, and sleep if it's late.
However, someone he invited in tried to attack the Sky People, and he got badly hurt protecting them.
So, they all learned to separate the kind visitors from the bad ones. The Sky People use their small amounts of magic to read the intentions of whoever comes onto the property and Sabre cast a spell. This spell lets him hear everything said by those in the bounds of his home.
Whenever someone comes along that wants to take advantage of his generosity and steal his resources, he still lets them rest and makes them a meal. But when they eat, they find the spell Sabre put into their meal to transform them.
And because it's Sabre, he would change them into chickens and rabbits. And because he ain't weird like that and he has animal farms to get food from, he doesn't eat them.
Instead, he puts them all in a cage and releases them into the woods, where they run from wolves and rabbits.
I said he wasn't weird enough to eat them, not that he wasn't a little messed up.
Then, during The Age of Discovery (the point SL occurs), he meets Colle, Beef, Sharp, and Seer.
##
My fellow Yellow Guards and I cautiously approached the grandiose building. Large farms in the backyard could be seen from standing in the front. Voices inside could be heard laughing and talking.
"Should we go in? Or knock, maybe?" The guard on my left spoke, ready to approach the door, "I mean, whoever's in there could help us get back in the direction of the kingdom"
Someone in the back spoke up, "But what if whoever's in there is a threat?" I turned to see the guard, who had his sword out.
"Put that away! If they aren't a threat, why would they help us if you're threatening them with a weapon?" I made my way to him and lowered his sword. He opened his mouth to argue back when the door opened.
The person that stepped through was...odd. This guy wasn't a Steve. Nor did I know what he was. He wore a blindfold around his eyes and had a grin on his face. He looked friendly, but something was still unnerving. Something was telling me to run away.
"What's all this?" He glanced over us. At least, I think he did. He turned his head to, I assume, let us know where he was looking. He opened the door wider and stepped aside, "Come inside, you're probably tired from traveling so far"
We were tired. We all headed inside, the strange man letting us sit.
"Please put your weapons by the door. Keep your armor, but I would like if you kept swords off your person" The man smiled and gestured his hand to a barrel by the door. I got up and put my sword in the barrel, then returned to my seat.
A few others did the same, but most were hesitant. Nonetheless, they did what was asked.
However, "I would rather keep my sword on me. I don't like being unarmed in unfamiliar places" The same guy that had drawn his sword outside was refusing to leave it.
The man's smile twitched, a warning to those that played attention, which I very much did. The unnerving feeling grew into downright unsettling. That feeling that told me to run was clawing at me.
"This is my home. You are in my house, so you will follow my rules. Put your sword by the door" His voice surged with power. It shook the group to the core. The Steve scrambled up and put his sword away.
"Wonderful" He was entirely back to normal. The friendly demeanor was back, as if he had never done anything else.
He felt disoriented, so he tried to focus on something else. He looked closer at the flowing clothes and fabric the odd Non-Steve wore. He took a deep breath and steadied himself.
"Oh, where are my manners? My name is Sabre" The man introduced himself, finally revealing his name to our group. "Now, would anyone like something to drink?"
He offered us a range of drinks. We all either took water or one of the fruit juices he had made himself with the fruits in his gardens and farms.
Sabre had slipped away into the kitchen to make dinner and said he would call us to the table once it was ready. We started conversing in small groups, speaking lowly to not disturb him.
I started to pick up on other conversations around me, "I'm just saying. It's one guy, we could beat him with an ambush. He's not even a Steve, what can he really do?"
I whipped my head to the direction I heard the terrible sentence. I really shouldn't have been surprised at who said it. He and his friends were plotting to attack Sabre and steal from him.
To my horror, more started to agree with them. I shook my head as I felt myself go pale. The people I've fought with for years, doing something like this?
Sabre poked his head into the common area, "Come take a seat at the table, dinner's almost ready! I can get more drinks for everyone, too"
As if nothing happened, everyone smiled and nodded and went to go sit. I stood on shaky legs and started to plan how to protect this innocent man.
I'm not the physically strongest, but I've always been the most agile. That will have to do. If they attack, I can grab Sabre and run.
When the food was brought out, Sabre placed a new drink in front of me. He leaned closer to me, nearly whispering in my ear, "Thank you. Make sure you drink it all after you eat"
Then he simply walked away. What was he talking about? It couldn't be about the plot, he wasn't anywhere near close enough to hear.
New people stepped into the room as we began eating. They filed into the kitchen and walked out with bowls and plates, going back to wherever they were. Each time one of them went by, they smiled at me.
I finished my plate and remembered what Sabre had told me, drinking the glass of...whatever it was. It tasted pleasant.
Sabre stood in front of the table. His face was somber and serious, as if he was about to deliver terrible news. "Think twice before you disrespect someone in their own home"
Suddenly, my fellow guards were growling in pain, doubling over. Some were falling out of their chairs. I panicked, getting up and backing away from the table.
Before long, the once Yellow Steves were now either chickens or rabbits. I stood, unbelieving at the scene.
Two of the people that had passed by came into the room with a large crate. Sabre took it from them, to which they began coraling all the chickens and rabbits into it. Sabre handed the crate back and they hurried it outside.
I finally found my voice again, "Wh...what was that...? How did you do that...?" This didn't feel real. It felt like I was going to wake up in a cold sweat at any moment.
Sabre's kind smile was turned to me once more, "You were the only one that didn't want to take advantage of me or my people. They launched into how to attack me the second I was out of the room. You had more sense. For that, I spared you the spell"
So he did hear. But, that should be impossible. Wait...spell?
"How...?" As if reading my thoughts, he gestured for one of the people to come forward.
"My Sky People can read the intentions of everyone that comes within the boundaries of our home. And in those same boundaries, I can hear everything being said. I could be outside and hear everything"
I felt like I wanted to collapse. What was going to happen to me now? Was be going to let me go? Was he going to turn me into something else?
He stepped closer and put a gentle hand on my shoulder, "You were revolted at their plans. You were only willing to take what I would offer you. So, I gave you the antidote of sorts to the spell I placed in the food"
My knees shook, wanting to give out, "You have two options for what happens next. You can either rest here for tonight in a guest room and leave tomorrow after breakfast, or you can leave now with your and your comrades things. I won't be upset with either choice, I promise"
He gave me another grin. I was so tired, but I knew I likely wouldn't sleep tonight. Either way, I know I need to rest.
I made the choice to sleep here for the night.
When I woke up, there were two bags in front of the bed. Opening them, one had the swords of my former fellow guards. The other had my own sword and some potions. Health and regen on closer inspection.
There was a knock at the door, which opened after I gave the okay. Sabre stood in the doorframe, holding a tray.
"Eating with everyone else may be a lot for you right now, so I brought you breakfast. When you finish, you can just leave the tray here, I'll clean up after you leave"
He saw me crouched next to the bags and placed the tray on the night stand, "Ah, I didn't want you to leave without their stuff, so it was packed up for you. And I wanted to give you a parting gift"
I nodded, both still kinda groggy and in shock from last night's events. He gave another smile and left the room. His smile was now singed into my memory, like the scar I got from being pushed into hot metal.
Within the hour, I was out the door, with directions back to the Yellow Kingdom. I held back tears as I moved away from the house. Once it was no longer in view, I started to run. I sped away, not wanting to be anywhere near the cursed place.

HC/tidbit FIRE OFF:
Whenever there's visitors. Sabre makes two different meals. One for the guests that he can cast a spell into in case they have ulterior motives and one for him and the Sky People.
To clarify, if Sabre himself in not in the property bounds, he can't hear what's happening there.
At some point, Rainbow brings Light, Time, and Elemental to Sabre's house. He has them stay outside while he grabs a potion or whatever else it is they need because Sabre would be so pissed if he knew the Sky People were faced with so many strangers. Rainbow himself is only allowed in like that because he had a friendship going with him before the events of RQ.
When Sabre gets exiled from the Rainbow Kingdom, he returns to his home in the woods, but he does keep a steady relationship with the village with the unnamed under it. When Light and the Leaders realize they haven't heard of Sabre being seen since they made him leave, Light goes to the place and finds Sabre living peacefully with his Sky People. Cue a month or so of Sabre threatening to change him if he comes in the boundaries of his home.
Sabre was involved in SL. After he met Beef. Sharp, Seer, and Colle, he would occasionally come to help with a problem, using his spells and potions. Because of this, every time someone from SL sees him, they're just like, "Yo, what's up?" Goggles specifically apologizes for him being dragged away from his people for so long (This is a move of fear).
Speaking of moves of fear, Beef still remembers Sabre after being turned into Faceless. The first time they met, Beef was reluctant to put his sword away and Sabre did the whole thing with increasing the power in his voice and threatening him. Beef remembers that moment and will be afraid of Sabre for the rest of his existence.
When Sabre and Rainbow find the Great Library, Sharp jumps off some railing and basically tackles Sabre in a hug because 'holy shit, someone I recognize'. Sabre returns the hug, don't worry.
Sabre loves to cook for his friends, and those that know of his habit of transmutating hostile Steves like to make jokes about it. Like, "You can just say we're pissing you off, you don't need to turn us into rabbits"
There are multiple scary stories along the lines of, "Beware the witch in the woods. If you see him, you won't leave the same". Sabre knows this and finds it hilarious. When asked about this by someone unaware of his spells, he's just like, "Yeah, you don't exactly transmutate several dozen Steves and not get scary stories told about you lol"
This is one of my favorite ideas and is so so funny to my little goblin brain
Chapter 11: Domesticity
Notes:
The sillies claw at the walls of my brain, they want out
Chapter Text
It was rare that the Rainbow Town was quiet, so the inhabitants naturally took advantage of the silence.
Rainbow was sprawled out on one of the side couches, dozing off. Light, his little brother, was sitting on the floor, messing with some of the fidget toys Sabre had brought from his world. Speaking of which, the aforementioned player was currently curled on one side of the front-facing couch, reading a book.
As the bright Steve checked out the various fidget toys, his hair kept falling into his face. He adjusted his posture multiple times, but still had to resort to moving it with his hands.
His hair had grown longer recently, now reaching past his shoulders. He had meant to put it in a small ponytail, but he couldn't find a hair tie.
In a house of three people with very similar hair length and type, that was bound to happen.
Sabre noticed his growing frustration. He bookmarked his page, closed the book, and headed upstairs. Before either Steves could question it, he was back.
The human set down a comb, detangler, and other products and sat back down. "Hey, Light, come 'ere". Both glanced up again at the noise and Light scooted back to sit in front of his creator.
Rainbow, being Rainbow, decided he didn't want to be the only one not sitting over there and moved to sit beside Sabre on the couch.
The player put a hair tie on his wrist and started gently raking his fingers through the white hair. Light leaned back, content.
Eventually, Sabre picked up the detangler, covered his creation's eyes, and started to spray a generous amount onto the Steve's slightly tangled hair.
He picked up the comb and carefully brushed it through, beginning at the bottom and working the comb to the roots.
Rainbow tucked himself against the Non-Steve's shoulder.
Putting the comb down, the blindfolded man started to scrunch the bright white hair in his hands. After, he grabbed the curl cream and put a small amount on his fingers, rubbed it across his hands, and once again scrunched.
Light closed his eyes, dozing off. He distantly felt the curl revitalizer be sprayed on his head and scrunched once more.
Sabre twirled the strands in his hair as Light's head was laid in his lap. Rainbow had fallen asleep on his shoulder a while ago.
He picked his book back up and continued reading where he had left off.
Chapter 12: Headcanons!!
Chapter Text
A bunch of HCs and ideas I work into just about everything. Some of which I came up with, others I adopted after seeing it somewhere else in the fandom. I'll be doing this in parts!
Sabre-
Cockatrice hybrid. If you don't know what that is, it's a creepy bird thing that hatches from a rotten chicken egg. They're said to be able to kill by either sight, breath, or touch. Sabre wears the blindfold bc he will kill whoever makes eye contact with him.
He nearly cut off Reverse's hand in the SS bc he tried to remove the blindfold. Then, when Rainbow Red tried it, he broke his wrist and arm.
Sabre has wings that he keeps very tidy, but hides them most of the time. They're basically huge targets, and he would really rather not have to lose them bc of damage.
And, bc people love it (including me), Sabre has a giant nest on his bed made of pillows, blankets, and other soft items. He even "stole" some items from his friends (They purposefully leave the stuff there for him to have).
Assassin's Creed backstory. I really like the story of his old Assassin's Creed series, so I tweaked it a bit and made that his life. I haven't ever actually finished the series, but that just makes it easier to shoot canon out back.
Long story short, Sabre inherited the Creed, became leader, took out that tyrant guy that wanted to take over, and led the Creed in an assault against the Templars, driving them away and out of power.
He refused to become king afterwards, and instead set up Creed hideouts and outposts around and slightly out of the kingdom.
He carries a ton of knives and other weapons on him and has used them many times. He also has a folder full of just his wanted posters that were put up over the years of being a thorn in the Templar's side.
I'll go more into depth abt this at another point!
GIVE THIS MAN COUNTRY ACCENT. That's all. I just strongly believe that because Sabre holds so tightly to his father in AC, he embraced the farm and the slight country accent he had, which got stronger as he aged. It's more subdued now, but it's very noticed and thick when he gets annoyed or angry.
Bro is a tired father. He and Flurry have a father/son relationship, obviously. And, before he forgot he created Origin, the two also had that relationship. Origin was actually pretty embarrassed the first time he called Sabre "Dad", but then he started doing it more often.
Bro also just starts parenting RQ Dark almost immediately. He sees that Dark wanted to be better and just scooped him up and decided "Alright, I'm your father now".
Bee-
Emotional DamageTM. When he and Sabre separated him from the shadow stone, Sabre gave him a hug. Bee latched on and sobbed into his shoulder, literally only standing bc Sabre held him up. When he meets RQ Dark, the two have a moment of "You get it" bc RQ Dark also had a sob-on-shoulder moment with Sabre. Speaking of...
Wants to keep RQ Dark. When Bee had his redemption arc, he desperately wanted to see SS Dark be better, but he never was. When he met RQ Dark, he saw himself in him and started helping to make sure he knew his past wasn't his fault when he was literally created without free will. He saw him and went "Right, you're coming with me".
Deathly afraid of Sabre. Remember when Lucas, Sabre, and Rainbow went to Nightmare's palace and Sabre and he had a 1v1 while Lucas and Rainbow were locked up? Well, that stuck out bc Nightmare literally begged for mercy while Sabre laughed at him before throwing him off a ledge with a stab. Bee remembers that moment and is terrified every time his past is even slightly mentioned. Every time someone underestimates or insults Sabre's capability/abilities, he tells them the story of how that went down.
I love sharing my silly little ideas that crave out of my silly little brain
Chapter 13: The Timeline and Home
Chapter Text
Enjoy this one, I love it
When Time and Sabre leave to correct the timeline, Light has to make the journey back and inform not only the leaders, but the village of their disappearance.
He obviously can't tell them that Sabre is the creator of this world and Origin, so he just leaves it there, even as the leaders, especially M, are begging for him to tell them everything. They eventually drop it and create Sabre's memorial and mourn.
Meanwhile, Sabre and Time are solidly outside of the timeline with Origin. The two fix every inconsistency and problem, slowly correcting it.
Origin pops in fairly frequently, telling them about the going-ons of the Steves and helping them.
Of course, there is chaos.
So, while everyone else is sad they lost their friends, Time just summoned a chair to crack over Origin's head.
They don't feel pain since the area they're in doesn't technically exist, so they can just summon stuff and beat each other up.
Which the do frequently. Very frequently.
Origin will come in to see Sabre right hook Time and then get a table thrown at his forehead. Origin leaves for a bit to let them fight it out.
Sabre also gets access to the world he belongs in again, so Time and Origin convince him to leave to visit home sometimes. He'll sometimes come back to Time pummeling Origin while Origin is repeatedly throwing him across a room whenever he gets the chance.
Sabre and Origin never physically fight since they're father/son, but they bicker plenty. There's a lot of name-calling and mockery, but it never escalates to punches or things being thrown. Time tries to provoke them, but that usually just leads to them tag teaming him.
Throughout the whole process of fixing the timeline, they're mocking everything, especially when they get to the recent stuff. Like, they see a stupid decision the other made and just go, "Lmao, dumbass. Why'd you do that?".
When they see Void first attacking the Green Village, they have a laughing fit about how stupid he looks. It's a solid half an hour of making fun of him.
When they finish and can finally go home, Origin opens the portal and they say their goodbyes...which consist of a final chair to the back from Time and a "Later, dork" from Sabre.
They get spit out of the portal where they first went in, look at each other, and decide to race back to the village.
They sprint through the forest, trying to make the other trip or otherwise fall behind. Sabre just straight up climbs through trees until Time grabs his leg and yanks him down.
They make a ton of noise and kinda worry the villagers until they fall in a heap on the ground, laughing at their idiocy and bickering about who won the race.
The village leaders help them up and try to go to Light and the other leaders, but Time and Sabre are just like, "Nah, dude, we're going back to cottage and taking a nap for at least 4 days".
And that's exactly how Light and the Chromatic leaders find them, on the couch together and asleep. They are, quite literally, shaken awake. At least, Time is. Sabre swats at whoever has him (almost certainly Light) and turns over, immediately falling back asleep.
When Sabre eventually wakes up, the two get grilled on what happened and, of course, get spine-crushing hugs.
Light grabs them both by shoulders and shakes them, yelling at them for worrying him like they did because "Do you want to give me a stroke? Because the way you two stress me out, that's what will happen!"
The topic of why Light was so dodgy with the details inevitably comes up and Light just gives Sabre a look that has the player looking for the nearest window to jump out of and escape.
"Do you wanna tell them, or do I have to shake it out of you?"
"...Do I have to?"
"YES!? Because HOW in the WORLD do you just FORGET SOMETHING LIKE THAT!?"
"IT LITERALLY WASN'T MY FAULT!?"
...Yeah, Sabre is forced to come clean about creating Origin and the world. Cue simultaneous mental blue screens.
They all call him an idiot.
BONUS-
Whenever Time and Sabre get frustrated with each other, they immediately grab the nearest object to throw or the nearest chair to break over the other, before stopping and realizing it will do damage now.
Chapter 14: CB: Who tf-!?
Chapter Text
Blaze felt like he was going to have an aneurysm.
Hearing about Sabre's old adventures and friends was one thing, seeing them was another.
Of course, he welcomed them with open arms, they're friends of Sabre and he was going to play nice.
And, hearing about what they all accomplished and did, he was a little bit scared of them.
Still, listening to them bicker and joke throughout the conversation was funny. The conversation reached it's peak when M had said something, he wasn't fully listening.
The table had his full attention when Rain bursted out, "Dude, like Kesha!" This got laughs and giggles from the other-worlders all around the table.
Sabre responded, "I should NOT have given you internet access, that was a mistake!" This got more laughs, which only increased when Bee spoke, "Bro is not beating the generic pop allegations".
Yeah, Blaze was definitely going to have an aneurysm.
However much experience he thought he had with Sabre's antics, it was useless in the face of so many people that joked nearly exactly like him.
A thud on the roof stopped all sound. It was so quick it was almost scary. A second thud hit the building, causing Rain, Sabre, and Frost to all stand and draw their weapons, the former two making their way to the door.
Blaze always forgot how eerie it was when he saw how deathly silent Sabre's footsteps were. Rain's were similar, but clearly silenced through teaching rather than experience.
The thuds had turned to what sounded like foot falls, uncaring of the sound they made of the way to the door. The sounds dropped off, presumably now right outside the door.
Sabre perked up, likely having heard a sound that the rest of them couldn't hear. Blaze was admittedly a little jealous of his better hearing.
"Oh, for-" The player flung the door open, obviously annoyed. "I actually despise you two, get in here".
The previously unseen entities entered the room, causing mixed reactions of sighs, groans, middle fingers, and stress-filled laughs. One was kind of hard to look at, seeming to shift as he moved, and the other was very multicolored, like several buckets of paint thrown at a single canvas, and had one eye. Blaze wondered if this was their version of Hypno.
Everyone sat down and put their weapons away (Blaze ignored how Frost had his sword still unholstered, ready to attack any threat).
"Everyone, this is Illusion and the other world's version of Hypno" Sabre introduced the two new additions before turning to them, "Are you happy with yourselves?"
The very smug looking Steves replied, "Yes" in near perfect unison, which was surprising considering how that Hypno's voice glitched.
"So, there's another one of me?" The more colorful Hypno spoke up, the glitching tone carrying both smugness and curiosity.
"Mhm, but, he's only red and purple. You've got a lot of different colors" M spoke, sounding very interested in the differing appearance.
"Well, since there's two, someone has to go by a nickname" Pocketwatch cut in, pointing out the issue.
M replied to the clock-wearing Steve, "Oh, our Hypno used to be a red Steve, so we can see if he's okay with going by his old name".
"Good, because I'm not changing it" The other Hypno crossed his arms in defiance, drawing a 'bruh' from Rain.
Blaze sat back in his chair and slid his hands down his face. This was going to be the death of him, but at least it'll be funny.
Chapter 15: Merbre
Chapter Text
MER SABRE MER SABRE MER SABRE
THIS ONE LIVES IN MY HEAD RENT FREE
So, a quick thing- merfolk and sirens are capable of living side by side, but they usually don't...unless a siren becomes indebted to a mer. If a mer saves a siren's life, the siren vows to repay the debt, and it sometimes goes on for so long that the siren just hangs around after the debt is paid. This is what happened to our little guppy Sabre.
Sabre was abandoned by his school (a group of fish) and left to fend for himself. He came across sirens caught in a net by humans and decided to save them. He found a sharp rock off the sea floor and cut away the net, setting the sirens free, who immediately sank the human ship as payback. The sirens took him with them, both to pay their debt to him and because they knew he was basically left to die.
Now, there are many differences between mers and sirens. Diet, teeth, fin shape, claws, and method of allure.
Sirens have a diet of mainly meat, human meat to be exact. Merfolk have a more vegetarian-type diet, but do eat meat of things in the ocean that aren't alive or what they can young from humans. Because of this, sirens have much more pointed teeth and claws to tear throw the flesh. Mer have more blunt teeth and no need for claws. Merfolk have much smoother tails and fins, while sirens have much more detail in both their tail and fins, appearing sharper. As for the allure...sirens aren't the only blood thirsty ones. Sirens kill for food and occasionally entertainment, whereas mers that get especially pissed off will use their beauty and trusting aura to lure some poor fool into the water, and the mer will drown them.
Sabre, being raised by sirens, had to adapt to the new way of living. Over time, his body changed to match the environment because I decided ocean creatures speed run evolution. His teeth became sharper, his tail and fins gained more detail, his nails sharpened a little, and he learned to lure humans in for meals. He's still very much a mer, but he has traits of a siren.
Merfolk are also masters of powerful jewelry. They know how to make strong materials and craft them into insane artifacts. The materials are neptunium, amphitine (also called sea silver), moonlit pearls, and aphrodine (essentially a rose gold infused moonlit pearl). All of their precious materials are tied back to the ocean in some way and are regarded as extremely powerful. The jewelry these materials are crafted into enhance a mer's natural control of the sea and a powerful enough item allows for control over just about any body of water.
The sirens came across a piece of mer jewelry and, of course, gave it to the little mer of their pack. They slid the comb into his hair and watched as it glimmered, identifying it's new owner. They also realized the comb contained every mer mineral, making this comb extremely powerful and rare. Sabre enjoyed the perks of his comb for years until he was pulled away from the ocean by Void and brought onto land with the Steves.
Small problem...ocean creatures are significantly more effected by smoke/fire.
##
Orange breathed a sigh of relief as the last person was evacuated from the burning village. There was a nearby river, so Sabre and his comb had come in very handy. Green Steves were attending to burns and other injuries, making sure everyone was good to go.
Sabre came up beside him, silently. This made the vibrant Steve worry for the usually loud mer, especially with the way he seemed to be swaying. Then, Sabre doubled over in a coughing fit.
It finally hit Orange- Sabre can't handle fire and smoke the way they can. A green Steve rushed over as Sabre rasped out, "Can't...breathe". Orange caught the mer before he could collapse. A few more green Steves came over, taking the mer from his arms and laying him on the ground, pushing Orange back to give them space.
Sabre passed out as he was laid flat. Orange felt his rising panic as someone led him to sit down. The group of green Steves quickly picked him up and moved him into a medical tent. Rainbow felt like he wanted to sob.
"They're going to take care of him, Orange. He'll be fine" Orange looked to the sound of the voice, finding LC, who had tagged along to help with the burning Yellow village.
"I hope so".
They had no idea what they were doing, Fern found. He had rushed away from the Green Village the second he heard the condition Sabre was in, leaving his assistant in a frenzy over not being able to come with.
He bursted into the medical tent to see...the group trying to get Sabre to breathe oxygen. Um?
"Guys, he's an ocean creature. He breathes water first, air second. You guys know that, right?" This gave the group pause before they rushed to get water bottles for him to breathe instead.
Sabre was, fortunately, still breathing, but he was audibly struggling. He needed to get into water, and fast.
They got him to take somewhat steady breaths now that there was water in his lungs(which was a weird thought), but there was still the burns of his skin.
"What if we try a spider lily wrap? It works pretty well on sirens for healing" One of the members of the group suggested, to which some agreed.
However, "Wait, I thought he was a mer?" Another green Steve cut in, confused, as were others. Fern himself didn't even know which Sabre was.
After a quick vote, it was more siren leaning than mer. So, someone went out to ask a yellow Steve volunteer to collect spider lillies from the nearby forest.
Once they had them, they crushed some up to collect the water in the stem and petals. They spread the water on the petals, then lined bandages with them before placing it on Sabre's skin.
The reaction was near immediate. Sabre, still unconscious, choked on the next breath he took, coughing up some of the water they had just gotten him to breathe.
Fern rushed out of the tent as the others worked to restabilize him. Looking around, he found Orange looking shaken up. He ran in front of him, skidding to a stop just before he nearly fell on him.
"Orange!" If the sudden appearance didn't startle him, the shout definitely did, "What species is Sabre? This is urgent".
Orange looked even more panicked at the question, "He's a mer. Why? What happened? Is he okay!?"
He tried to stand up, but LC sat him back down as Fern ran back into the medical tent.
"He's a mer, not a siren!" Fern basically shouted as he ran back up to Sabre, ripping off the bandages. He saw the irritation and even worsened burns. Origin, they fucked up badly.
They quickly put together a tank, filling it with water and dumping in what had to be half of all the healing and regeneration potions they currently had on them before putting Sabre in.
They watched as his comb gave a gentle glow in his hair as his legs disappeared, changing into a defined, green ombre tail.
Finally, finally, Sabre took am easy breath, his wounds no longer seeming as red and irritated now that he was in the tank.
Sighs of relief chorused throughout the tent, Fern exiting the folds of green fabric as he went to inform Orange of his friend's stable condition.
The last thing Sabre remembered was being held up by Orange, then passing out on the ground.
Now, however, he was in a large tank full of water. Breathing in, he noticed the high amount of potions in the water. Fern, the Green Leader, was sitting next to his tank, not yet having noticed he was awake.
Sabre laughed quietly to himself, knowing what had happened.
He swam to the top, laying over the edge. "So," Fern startled, standing up to greet the mer, a nervous looking on his face. It was funny to have a Steve look up at him instead of the reverse, "You almost killed me, didn't you?".
Fern shook his head, trying to weakly deny it, "What? No..." he then dropped the act and nodded, "Yeah...".
Sabre leaned his head back and laughed. "How did you even know? You just woke up!" Fern gestured with his arms at the full tank, confusion evident.
"Oh, maybe it was the water being at least a third potion. Or it could've been the spider lily burns?" He held up his arm to show one off. Luckily, it was now very faint and, honestly, barely there.
They had a joking back and forth, with Sabre finding this much funnier than he really should.
Oh, he was never letting him live this one down.
RAPID FIRE-
If you notice, neptunium is from the Aquaculture mod from minecraft. Amphitine comes from Amphitrite, the Greek goddess. She's Posidon's wife and regarded as the personification of the sea. And the Aphrodine comes from Aphrodite, who was created from seafoam. The pearls are moonlit because the moon effects the tide.
Mers are deathly allergic to spider lilies, where sirens use them as medicine frequently. This is because spider lilies represent death and are said to grow in Hell to guide spirits.
Reverse Steve was stalking Sabre, per usual, and figured out the power mer jewelry has and tried to take it. After a few close calls, Sabre got his hand on more amphitine to make a chain to turn the comb into a necklace. The teeth of the comb now fold back and can be folded back out to use.
Ocean creatures have a deep sense of trust imbeded in them when it comes to other ocean creatures. For example, if Sabre met an ocean Steve, neither would think twice before handing each other their most valuable, precious, and powerful items simply because they would never even think about harming each other. Then they switch back, talking about each other's cool stuff.
Sabre once used his allure to lure Darkness creatures into the water, then holding them there as they dissolved. He does this often and finds it really, really funny that such a powerful force can be dealt with so easily.
Sabre meant it when he said he would never let Fern live that moment down. Whenever they're having a petty argument, he bursts out with the, "You literally almost killed me?? Pipe down??" Sometimes, after Fern is quiet he goes, "Were you silent or SILENCED?" He finds this so so funny and everyone else is so so confused.
When Sabre gets exiled from the Rainbow Kingdom, he basically just runs off to the sea floor and rants to the fish. They bros and they listen, tickling him with their fins to make him feel better. He chills there for a while, forcing Light to go out on a boat at the last known sea he was spotted in.
Speaking of that, a bad storm hits while Light is out on the boat. Sabre saves him, dragging him to shore. Whole little mermaid thing, minus the falling in love. Sabre actually slaps him, yelling that he almost died and what were you thinking? You know what a coming storm looks like! Light was just happy to know he was alive.
In the village he and Time move to, Sabre liked to play hide and seek. Issue is, he kinda cheats. With the amounts of water and focks around, he just stays under the docks. Time pouts everytime he loses. And Dark just started beating with with pillows when they get back to the cottage.
Sabre loves to explore, finding deep sea treasures to give to his friends. He once disappeared for an entire day, everyone assuming he was just exploring something underwater again. But, when he didn't show back up at the usual time he typically does, everyone panicked. Then, he just casually pops up from the water, handmade pearl necklaces in hand for his friends.
I LOVE HIM I LOVE HIM I LOVE HIM
Chapter 16: Double or Nothing
Chapter Text
Sabre and Shadow are twins. That's it. That's the AU.
Sabre and Shadow are nearly identical, the only differences being hair color (Shaow's is a bit darker than Sabre's) and the colors they wear, Sabre sticking to brighter colors, like white, and Shadow sticking to darker colors, like black.
They both fall through the portal, the prophecy saying something about two people instead of one.
Everything goes almost the same, except dear Origin, there's two of them.
They're pure chaos together, pulling pranks and scaring/confusing everyone. They actually pull the whole "scary twins in a hallway" trick.
They're also nowhere near nice to each other. They take hits at each other, call each other names, and generally degrade each other because they find it funny. The Orange Village they were friends with actually thought they hated each other and tried to sit down with them to try and solve whatever was between them. They both found this absolutely hilarious and were actually in tears from laughing. They're very close, just mean.
This gets highlighted even more when Time and Elemental come in. They're at least mostly kind to each other, only occasionally fighting. I imagine they're having a very mild argument about something and Shadow is launched across the hub, Sabre tackling him while they're both grinning wildly and beating the shit out of each other over something trivial (neither of them even remembered what it was about).
Later on, Void tries to get Shadow on his side first, viewing him as the weakest/most vulnerable/whatever he decided made him the best target. Shadow said, "Absolutely fucking not" and hit him with some large branch he found (No one knows where he picked it up from, there weren't even any trees).
Sabre and Shadow sticking together throughout the entire thing, the only time they get separated is when Sabre gets corrupted. Instead of Shadow being a darker version of him made via corruption, he mostly fights Sabre until he beats the Darkness. He always tried to talk to Sabre, bring him back out and try to help him fight the Darkness.
He's the first to trust Sabre again, knowing that whatever happened wasn't his brother and staying by him when no one else trusted him.
The shadow sword is a sword that Shadow made him many years ago, now corrupted by Darkness. He clings to it so harshly because it was a gift from his twin brother and also because of the Darkness' influence. Shadow makes him a new one after the whole thing is settled.
When Sabre learns he created Origin, Shadow immediately starts making fun of him, calling him a dumbass. Then goes with him and Time to reset the timeline and continues to make fun of him at every memory.
