Chapter Text
Vee Noceda stretches, yawning like a cat as she leans against a sturdy pale woman next to her. They’re in the Owl House living room, the same as it always has been… well no, it's a little bit different since the house was damaged in the War of the Collector. For one it's a little bit bigger, for two all the knick-knacks are different now. There are even more wanted posters lovingly framed than before, surrounded by pictures and shelves filled with a wide variety of human realm artifacts (all in much better condition than the old ones), but perhaps the most important change is the upgrade from tiny crystal ball to flat-screen TV.
“Comfy?” Amelia asks. Vee answers by nuzzling her shoulder and grabbing her arm. It's a little hard to snuggle with her girlfriend considering both of them have big round bellies, but they’re both making do. Speaking of due, she and Amy recently discovered they have the same due date. So that's exciting. They’re watching re-runs of some show called My Adventures with Superman, it’s actually really good. Even if Lois Lane looks strangely familiar…
She's come a long way from being a lab experiment. Vee smiles and closes her eyes, mulling over all the changes that have happened since then. For one, she has a huge family. Camila, Eda, Luz, Amity, Lucia, Amelia, and more have all come into her life at various points and stayed. It's a huge upgrade from being so lonely in her cell, not to mention that her family doesn't subject her to horrifying experiments or abuse her. They don't have spiteful feelings towards her because of what she is, they aren't afraid because she's a greater basilisk.
Luz was the first to learn exactly what she was, and her first instinct was to help. She's so grateful for that, and for everything else Luz has given her. Her smile turns devious for a moment as she remembers what Luz gave her recently, ‘ just a way to relax’ they both joked during and afterward. Amity is kind, sweet, and endlessly supportive. Then there's Lucia, the woman who got her pregnant. Oh, Lucia gives her a lot of love and support too of course.
Not to mention Amelia, a woman that she was surprised to relate to as much as she does. Amelia was the black sheep of her family, and though those tears have been mended in the years since she's still just a little bit different than the rest of the Blight family. Her hair is bigger, messier, and bushier; she rarely wears makeup anymore; she’s a liiiiittle too interested in fire; and she’ll catch you off guard with her dry sense of humor. She's usually quick, clever, and more than a little dangerous if you get on her bad side.
Now? Amelia mostly just wants to cry on Lucia and watch cute stuff. Honestly, Vee can relate to all of that. It’s so strange being pregnant, to know that you're growing someone or someones inside you, so naturally, of course, Luz just had to say it's, “like 3D printing people”. Vee snorts softly, catching Amelia's attention just as an episode ends.
“What is it?” Amy asks, stroking Vee’s hair with one hand while holding her belly with the other. Vee hums, listening to the show’s credit music for a moment, basking in how wonderful this is. How good life is for her and her partners.
“I was just thinking about Luz. She’s a goober.” Vee explains. Another episode queues up automatically. Birds chirp and screech outside. The morning sun filters through the stained glass covering the corner of the living room in radiant colors.
“You've got that right.” Amy answers, “Where is she right now anyway?” The title card plays. Someone’s walking around upstairs. Vee thinks about it for a moment while Amy starts purring, the low, rumbling sound of it is comfy and soothing.
“I think she's on a human realm date with Amity.” Vee answers, “Something about conventions?”
“Nerds.” Amy says, her tone nothing but endearing.
“Yeah, like you're any better Miss I binged Buffy the Vampire Slayer in Two Weeks.” Vee teases. Amy laughs, her fingers migrating from the top of Vee’s head to just behind her fluffy ear. It’s Vee’s turn to make happy noises, she doesn't exactly purr unless she purposely shapeshifts to a full witch form, so she does just that. Nothing visible happens, and there's a noticeable gap that she's not allowed to change in her body, but otherwise, she just changes her vocal structure and starts rumbling right back.
“Itchy?” Amy asks quietly. Vee nods if she had a tail it would be swishing right now. Her eyes are growing heavy. Somewhere outside a wind chime starts to jingle. It’s a perfect day, but then again she thinks every day is perfect now. Being able to call these wonderful people her family means everything to her. Amy’s fingers slow their scratching. Vee lets out a biiiiig sigh. She should tell Amy how important she is to her. She should tell her how excited she is to spend the rest of her life with her. She looks up at her beloved, the words on her lips ready to jump.
But Amelia Blight is breathing slowly, her eyes closed, her head tipped back slightly against the cushy couch. The beautiful woman fell asleep. Vee smiles and snuggles in against the witch. She can’t think of anything better than following suit herself. She's safe and comfy and loved.
Is there anything better?
