When no one is around, my dear

You'll find me on my tallest tiptoes

Spinning in my highest heels, love

Shining just for you

The time had finally come, the day of the wedding between Arizona and Callie.

Everyone had been buzzing over it for weeks, getting everything ready, helping the two prepare, babysitting Sofia while everyone got it together, and now it was finally happening.

The service was beautiful, filled with warm remarks as the two declared their love for each other.

Then, it was onto the real party. There was a dance floor, catered food, lots of alcohol, and many people to socialize with.

Teddy had found herself staring into her third empty glass of champagne, still thirsty for more.

She was so very happy for her friends, so happy they were madly in love, and at the same time, she was jealous that she was painfully single.

While all the couples were getting together to dance along with Callie and Arizona, Teddy would be standing on the sidelines, appreciating the sight she couldn’t have.

It’s not as if she was jealous, but of course she wanted someone to be with. Whether that meant just a dance partner, a situationship, or an actual real relationship.

Teddy just wanted to be in love.

Cristina had spent most of the night with Mer, just tagging alongside her and Addi, but being a third wheel was kind of depressing sometimes.

Cristina was in awe of how in love her best friend was, and she wanted to find a love like that. The kind of love where you were so much like best friends, so much like each other and still different from each other, someone she could call, “her person” who she could also simultaneously make out with.

That’s the kind of love Cristina Yang wanted, anyway.

“Let’s make way for the first dance for the happy couple, Arizona and Callie!” the DJ exclaims, making everyone clear off the dance floor.

Music plays softly in the background, completing the romantic ambiance in the room.

They take the floor, huge grins spread across their tear-stained faces. Their bodies sway together almost perfectly, their dance seeming more like a glide than an actual dance.

Everyone cheers after, ready to watch the father-daughter dance take place shortly after.

The father-daughter dance ends, leaving everyone a bit emotional after seeing it take place.

The dance floor is now clear for anyone to dance on, the mirrorball above it shining as the music plays.

“Cristina, let’s go dance it out!” Meredith exclaims, grabbing Cristina’s arm and yanking her out onto the dance floor as an upbeat song plays.

More and more people fill the floor, dancing and singing along to the songs that are playing.

Eventually, a romantic song comes on, leaving Cristina to head off to the side and watch everyone else dance.

Meredith and Addison partner up, their hands intertwined as they sway to the song.

Callie and Arizona join them, Callie spinning Arizona as she squeals.

Shortly after, Mark and Lexie join them as well, Lexie grinning as she looks up at Mark.

Cristina heads off to grab a drink as another song starts to play, filling her glass up with more champagne.

On her way back, she bumps into Teddy who is also refilling her glass with more champagne.

“Whoops, sorry,” Cristina says, accidentally brushing her shoulder against Teddy’s.

“You’re good Cristina. How’s your night going so far?”

“Good except for the fact that I’m here watching everyone else dance because I don’t have a dance partner,” Cristina replies, laughing at her own pity.

“I thought I was the only one insecure about watching everyone else having the time of their lives..” Teddy says, laughing along as well as she takes a sip of her champagne.

“Hey, I mean, we both don’t have dance partners, why don’t we just dance together?” Cristina quietly asks, shyly looking down.

“Doesn’t sound like such a bad idea..” Teddy replies, slightly smiling.

The two follow each other to the dance floor, weaving through the already dancing couples.

Not sure how to go about this, Teddy gently places her hands around Cristina’s waist, her face slightly flushing as she does so.

Cristina places her arms on Teddy’s shoulders, anxiously looking up at her.

The two dart their eyes around the room, checking to see if anyone’s staring.

Lucky for them, everyone is too focused on their own dance partner to notice the unlikely pair swaying to the music.

A new song comes on, playing sweet melodies through the speakers.

“I love this song,” Teddy softly says, smiling at Cristina.

Cristina looks up at her, smiling back as they continue to move along with the music.

As time goes on, they get more and more comfortable, their movements syncing up and getting looser.

“You look really pretty tonight,” Cristina whispers, blushing slightly.

“So do you,” Teddy replies, subconsciously pulling her closer.

The mirrorball above them is reflecting shards of light across the room, complimenting the lyrics of the song perfectly.

‘Spinning in my highest heels, love

Shining just for you’

“You know, you’re a great dancer partner, Cristina.”

“You too, Teddy.”

What was this, what were they feeling?

There they were, dancing to romantic songs, skin to skin, face to face, their lips just mere inches apart.

Was it weird that this felt right..?

Eventually, the romantic songs end, causing the two to break apart.

They both scurry away from each other, slightly embarrassed of being seen in such an intimate way.

“Hey Cristina, did you have a fun night?” Meredith asks, finally walking back up to her.

“Yes, actually.”

Why was she feeling this way?

It was Teddy, it was just Teddy..

Teddy Altman, her superior, her mentor, her teacher, her friend, but what if she was more than that?

Could they be more than that..?

Because I'm a mirrorball

I'm a mirrorball

I'll show you every version of yourself

Tonight
