Chapter Twenty-Three-Epilogue
Ten Years Later
The day was perfect. Dark autumn clouds spilled streaks of light down over the cliffs outside the castle, shimmering on the waters. It was a crisp autumn day. The breakfast had been filling, but not too filling. Yoko had spent the morning fussing over her. Bianca had done her makeup. Ajax had spent three hours making a small bowtie to put on Rockstar for the occasion. Her three friends at her side, Enid felt tears rising to her eyes as she looked around the room.
“You okay babes?” Yoko asked, brushing a loose hair back into its updo.
“I’m perfect,” Enid grinned, looking one final time in the mirror at herself. Her dress was a cacophony of bright rainbow fabrics, pinks and yellows and reds and greens and blues. Her shoes sparkled and her makeup was bright. A single tear slipped down her cheek as she laughed excitedly.
“No, careful of my makeup!” Bianca groaned, gently wiping the tear away without disturbing her work.
“Nah, if I know Enid… and I totally do for like a really long time now,” Ajax grinned. “There’s no way she’s getting through this without a major cry fest.”
“Hey, just because you aren’t wrong, doesn’t mean you have to say it,” she grinned, hip checking her best man.
“The real question is if Addams is gonna bring out the waterworks,” Yoko grinned. “Who wants to bet?”
“I will take that bet,” Bianca smirked at her wife. “There’s no way that Weds would ever let herself be seen by all those people crying.”
“For this cutie pie? We’ll see,” Yoko teased, holding Enid’s shoulders.
Ajax popped his head out quick and then back in. “It’s time!”
They emerged as a beautiful dirge began to play. Enid looked out over the open cliffside, tears in her eyes already spilling down despite Bianca’s warnings as she walked towards the love of her life.
Everyone that mattered was there. Their friends from Nevermore were scattered on either side of the aisle, one with black and white chairs, the other rainbow. Her classmates from art school, some of the clients who had commissioned paintings from her, even the owner of the gallery in town all sat on her side. On Wednesday’s side of the aisle her beautiful, wild, incredible family all had black handkerchiefs raised to their faces, ready to welcome her into their loving fold.
But when she saw Wednesday all resolve to hold herself together melted. Her fiancé was there in a crisp black suit, a small and perfect smile plastered on her face as she openly admired Enid. Enid gasped and began to sob and run towards her, needing to be near her now.
She ran, watching as Wednesday Addams shed a tear and opened her arms.
They crashed together, Enid nearly tackling her future wife as she hit her. Wednesday picked her up and spun her around as the crowd seemed to fade into the background while they lost themselves in each other’s eyes. She felt herself begin to giggle as she looked at the smaller woman.
“You’re so beautiful,” she sobbed.
Wednesday smiled at her. “You are immaculate. You are perfect.”
“Guess what?” she giggled as she leaned in close.
“What is it cara mia?” Wednesday whispered back.
Enid shook her head, and she bit her lip before saying it.
“Today is perfect.”
They parted and the world reappeared, their loved ones laughing and celebrating their love as they held each other’s hands and stepped together into an unknown and perfect future together.
