Work Text:

“You are l’irlandese .”

“Beg pardon?”

“The Irishman. Well recommended. I’ve come for your help. You are available?”

“That depends on the reason for the recommendation. I excel at many things.”

“How are your skills of, ah, persuasion?”

“Few have disregarded suggestions. None have disobeyed direct orders.”

“Do you know la strega ?”

“It’s a liqueur. I prefer a shot of whiskey myself.”

“No, not like that. La Strega the witch. She’s cursed my team, my cars. We’ve not won a race all year. Every time one of my men comes close, something happens. It rains and the tires skid. A bird interferes.”

“I don’t believe in curses.”

“I’m not hiring you for your beliefs, Irlandese .”

“Fine, it’s your money. If you feel messing with a witch will reverse your team’s fortunes I won’t feel guilty about taking a paycheck. Exactly how am I dealing with this strega ?”

“I am not a violent man. If you can convince her to lift the curse without imposing harm, that is good. If not…”

“I have your consent to further persuade. Understood. Will killing a witch break a curse?”

“It is written.”

“I take half up front, half when the job’s done. Anything else?”

“We will conclude our business soon. Would you join me for dinner?”

“I can’t say no to a good meal and good company. Will we be joining your family?”

“Actually… it would be us out on il balcone . I hope to discuss another proposition.”

“I see. Would that proposition be related to your hand on my knee?”

“I can remove it if you are offended.”

“I’m not offended, don’t worry. So you know, I’m well recommended for that, too.”

Bene.
