Chapter 1: Monday 3 March 2008

Chapter Text

Harry found the hotel to be absolutely packed with people. That was not much of a surprise as the hotel had informed him when he had flooed them to tell them he would be there that day, that there was a muggle medical conference in town and every room, but his reserved suite, was booked.

The hotel served a mixed magic and nonmagical clientele, but right now it was almost exclusively rented out by nonmagicals.

He signed in and was given the key to the penthouse suite. When he got into the elevator, he was momentarily stunned by seeing the most handsome man he had ever seen. Better even than anything he could ever have imagined.

He hesitantly stood beside him, and the man said in amusement, “I am Carlisle.”

“Harry. Nice to meet you.”

“It is nice to meet you too. Are you here for the conference?” Carlisle asked.

“Uh, no. I uh– I own the hotel and just wanted to uh– to see it,” he said awkwardly.

Carlisle looked very amused and said, “It is nice to meet you then, Harry Black.”

Before he could correct the man, he said, “This is my floor. Have a good evening.”

“You as well,” Harry agreed.

Harry was stunned when he reached the top floor and found the most expensive area he had ever seen. It was a modernist’s dream, nothing like Grimmauld Place, and Harry walked in feeling stunned beyond belief.

It was late, so he went to bed in what turned out to be the most comfortable bed he had ever been in.

He woke feeling rested and light, but that did not last long as he had meeting after meeting lined up. They were interesting enough, he supposed, but he was tired by the end of the day, and he sat heavily at a table in the bar of the hotel.

He ate a meal the bar had happily prepared for him and as he did so, the room filled up with more and more people.

He was surprised when a smooth, familiar voice asked, “May I sit here? Everywhere else is full.”

“Sure,” he agreed, still stunned by the man’s appearance. He had never met anyone half so attractive.

“So, you are taking up family responsibilities now?” Carlisle asked.

Harry shrugged, “I guess you could say that. I have run the British side of things for years now, but I figured I should start looking into the foreign businesses at some point and why not now that my divorce is over?”

“Ah, fair enough. Travel does the soul good after some heartbreak. It certainly did for me,” Carlisle agreed.

“You too, huh? I guess being a supermodel does not stop people from being assholes,” Harry muttered.

Carlisle looked amused and he said, “Beauty does solve many problems, but no, it does not stop heartbreak. May I ask what happened with you?”

Harry shrugged and said, “I married her because everyone expected me to. It turns out that is not a good basis for a marriage. What about you?”

“No, that does not sound like a good basis at all. I loved her, but she left me for another man quite quickly after we married. She said that she did not want to be pinned down,” Carlisle said sadly.

“I am sorry, that sounds terrible,” Harry said, feeling bad for the other man.

Carlisle said, “At first, I blamed myself, but after hearing the stories of her bouncing from one man to another, I realized that it was not me, but her.”

“It sounds like it,” Harry agreed.

The fell into a companionable silence for a bit, before he asked, “So are you a doctor or are you still in medical school?”

“I just graduated from medical school last winter and am looking for a permanent position, though I may travel a bit before I do so,” Carlisle said.

“Where will you go?” Harry asked curiously.

Carlisle considered it and said, “I am not sure, exactly. France is always lovely so I may stay here for a bit after the conference is over. After that, well perhaps I will throw a dart at a map. Where will you go after France?”

“Germany. I plan to visit every country in Europe as I have at least a few investments in every country. Not as many as here, but still. Besides, I want to look for more family. Nearly all of the family is dead, but there are bound to be a few floating around. I already put ads out in the French papers,” Harry said.

Carlisle looked very sad and said, “I am sorry for your losses.”

“Thank you, but most of them died before I even knew they existed. The only one I knew was my godfather and he died when I was fifteen. Now, of the main line, there are five of us and I did not know them until I was an adult,” Harry said.

“How sad. I did not lose my father until I was twenty three and I still think of him regularly,” Carlisle said sadly.

Harry swallowed and said, “Sirius was the closest I ever had to a father, and I barely knew him. He spent most of his life wrongly imprisoned for a crime he did not commit.” He wondered why he was talking about this, but it was so easy to talk to Carlisle.

“My father was an Anglican pastor and he saw villains in everyone. He raised me to be the same and it took me quite some time to see past that. It took a life changing event for me to see things differently,” Carlisle said softly enough that Harry could almost not hear him in the loud bar.

Harry swallowed and took a long drink before he said, “My aunt and uncle that raised me weren’t great either, but we are better in spite of them.”

“Yes, we are,” Carlisle agreed.

Harry hesitated and then asked, “When does the conference end?”

“There are another four days left to it. How long will you be here for?” Carlisle said.

“I am not sure, exactly. I am meeting with my property and investment managers which will take a while for me to get a handle on, trying to find family, and I want to see some of the big tourist attractions before I move on,” Harry said.

“Perhaps I could show you a few of them after the conference is over. I have not yet bought myself another plane ticket,” Carlisle said.

Harry hesitated again before he agreed, “Sure, that sounds nice.”

He went to take another drink, then looked down in surprise when he realized it was empty. He probably should not have another, this was his third. Which did explain why he was spilling his life’s story to a random man.

He glanced at his watch and his eyes widened as he saw that it was nearly midnight.

“I should probably go to bed, I have a meeting at seven thirty tomorrow,” Harry said.

“Of course, and the conference starts at eight. Perhaps we can meet back here tomorrow after dinner to discuss things in more detail,” Carlisle said smoothly.

“Sure,” Harry agreed.

When he got to his room, he thought about Carlisle.

He had never found a man handsome before, but Carlisle was undeniably incredibly handsome. Did he like men?

Well, there was only one way to find out.

He took himself out of his pyjama bottoms and thought of Carlisle. It was easier than he expected to jerk off to the thought of him naked. Carlisle’s hand gripping Harry’s cock, his mouth on his own mouth, his body pressed against him.

It took very little time before he came with a strangled cry.

Fuck, he was really attracted to Carlisle.
