A leaf is stuffed towards the end of a paperback novel that Kaveh's been hungrily consuming. Perhaps tonight he can finish it. Then, he’ll return it to the fairy library on the path behind his apartment building and pick out his next read.
…All right, he concedes, it’s a bit silly. He works at a bookstore. He has a decent discount. It’s just… well, there’s something very communal about reading a book and passing it along to someone else. (He won’t get into the fact that over the last two years, the books all seem to contain small annotations on the “empty” pages towards the front and back covers. The takes are lackluster.)
Kaveh nearly jumps out of his skin when a book plops down on the counter.

“These are out of order.”
Kaveh’s eyes drift up from the binding of the most recent book in a dragon-focused series to meet the gaze of that guy. Great.

Kaveh works at a bookstore to pay off debt and Alhaitham is his frustrating downstairs neighbor who goes to Kaveh's bookstore every day but never buys anything. Meanwhile, Kaveh is at war with another frequent visitor to the fairy library behind his apartment.
