If I snap my fingers, you forget that you were ever gay

Summary:

“If I snap my fingers, you forget that you were ever gay.”

Gen’s voice carried its usual theatrical flourish as he snapped his fingers just inches from Senku’s face. The sound cut through the soft scratching of chalk against the board, making the scientist blink once before continuing his furious calculations.

“I was never gay,” Senku replied flatly, not even humoring him with a glance.

“Exactly,” Gen said smoothly, his lips curving into a grin that he dutifully hid behind his sleeve.

OR Gen plays a little prank on Senku, and Senku decides to conduct an experiment.

Notes:

Based on the random TikTok sound that won't get out of my head! Here’s the link if y’all want it, the art is beautiful: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTY5Y8oe7/

This is my first fic that I've been brave enough to post, so I hope it brings you all as much joy as it brought me as I wrote it :)

Also in this fic Senku and Gen are both in their 20s, I do declare. Let me know if I missed any tags.

Enjoy!

Work Text:

“If I snap my fingers, you forget that you were ever gay.”

Gen’s voice carried its usual theatrical flourish as he snapped his fingers just inches from Senku’s face. The sound cut through the soft scratching of chalk against the board, making the scientist blink once before continuing his furious calculations.

“I was never gay,” Senku replied flatly, not even humoring him with a glance.

“Exactly,” Gen said smoothly, his lips curving into a grin that he dutifully hid behind his sleeve.

Senku paused mid-equation, his sharp ruby eyes narrowing slightly as if mentally rewinding the conversation. The realization hit him like an iodine clock reaction. His mouth twitched downward in irritation, but he didn’t turn around. Not yet.

“Wait, no—”

“Yes—”

“No, stop. You can’t—” Senku’s words were punctuated by the loud clatter of chalk hitting the table as he spun around, pinning Gen with an accusatory glare. “I was never gay.”

Gen’s smile only widened, serene and maddeningly unreadable. “Okay,” he said innocently, his tone belying his enjoyment.

“No,” Senku repeated slowly, stepping closer this time, his words laced with barely contained exasperation. “I was never gay.”

“Sure,” Gen replied, offering a shrug that practically oozed nonchalance.

Senku’s patience, already strained from two consecutive all-nighters solving yet another of humanity’s many science dilemmas, was wearing thin. He knew Gen’s game, and worse, he knew Gen knew he knew. But that didn’t stop him from getting sucked in anyway. The mentalist’s smug grin, those cheap tricks meant to rattle him—Senku despised them as much as he begrudgingly admired their effectiveness.

“You can’t just state something,” Senku growled, stepping into Gen’s space, “snap your fingers, and expect me to—” He stopped, grabbing at the air near Gen’s shoulders as though imagining the feel of his neck under his hands. “I was never gay!”

Gen didn’t flinch, his serene expression now bordering on condescending amusement. “If you say so, Senku-chan,” he cooed.

Senku’s eye twitched. He considered, briefly, the mechanics of hiding a body. The thought passed quickly, as it always did.

“This is stupid,” Senku declared, crossing his arms. “Break the trance. Turn me back.”

Gen blinked, his composure faltering for the first time. “What?”

“You snapped your fingers, I forgot I was ever gay,” Senku said, gesturing vaguely at the space between them. “Make me remember.”

“Ah.” Gen recovered quickly, slipping back into his smooth act. “It’s not so simple, my dear Senku.”

Senku arched an eyebrow. “Why not? Whatever needs doing, let’s do it. Unless…” He leaned closer, his sharp gaze boring into Gen’s. “Unless it was fake, and you’re just a lying, cheating fraud.”

The glint of mischief in Gen’s eyes confirmed Senku’s suspicion, though the mentalist, ever the consummate performer, feigned offense. “Fraud is such a harsh word, Senku-chan. But if you insist…” He paused dramatically, allowing a touch of gravity to seep into his tone. “The only way to break the trance…is with true love’s kiss.”

Senku stared at him, deadpan. “Oh, is that all? A kiss?” His voice dripped with sarcasm.

“Not just any kiss,” Gen corrected, his hand flourishing as though unveiling an invisible curtain on a grand stage. “True love’s kiss.”

“Yeah, yeah, that’s nonsense.” Senku waved a hand dismissively. “There’s no scientific evidence for any of that soulmate junk.”

“But isn’t disproving such claims exactly your specialty?” Gen countered, his grin sharpening.

Senku’s eyes narrowed in challenge. “And how do you propose we test that, oh ‘mental genius’?”

Gen’s lips twitched. “Simple. You kiss me. If it’s true love’s kiss, the trance will break. If not, well—”

“Then I’d be right on two counts,” Senku interrupted, holding up two fingers. “One, that true love’s kiss doesn’t exist. And two, that you are, indeed, a lying fraud.”

Gen tilted his head, conceding the point. “If that’s what will make you happy.”

“Oh, it will.” The grin Senku flashed was razor-sharp, a predator scenting victory.

Gen straightened, his expression calm but his pulse quickening in anticipation. “Whenever you’re ready to begin the experiment, my dear—”

Before he could finish, Senku grabbed the lapels of Gen’s coat and pushed him back against the table. The movement was quick, deliberate, and uncomfortably intimate. Senku’s sharp gaze flickered briefly to Gen’s lips before he leaned in, pressing their mouths together in a firm, methodical kiss. It was over in a second, the scientist pulling back with a furrowed brow as if the answer to his hypothesis were hidden in the taste lingering on his lips.

“First test inconclusive,” Senku muttered, touching his lips thoughtfully.

Gen, still reeling from the kiss, felt a flush creep up his neck. His heart was pounding, though he would die before admitting it. “By all means, my meticulous man of science,” he said, his voice a touch breathier than he intended. “Take as many tests as you need.”

Senku nodded, entirely too serious. “The more data, the better.” His gaze lingered on Gen’s lips, calculating.

“Of course,” Gen murmured, settling back against the table. He grinned, his confidence returning in full force. “I hereby give my body to science. Proceed.”

Senku didn’t need to be told twice. This time, the kiss lingered, deeper and messier than before. The awkward precision of the first experiment melted away into something electric, exhilirating. Gen’s hands found their way to Senku’s shoulders, steadying himself as their lips moved in sync, their faces snapping together like valence electrons in a covalent bond.

When they finally broke apart, both were breathless. Senku, ever the scientist, was already analyzing the results. Gen, for once, said nothing, his usually sharp tongue dulled by the undeniable heat pooling in his chest.

“Well?” Gen asked finally, his voice low. “What’s your conclusion?”

Senku’s lips quirked into a rare, genuine smile. “Hypothesis needs more testing.”

Gen laughed, soft and genuine, before pulling him back in for another kiss. The kiss started with the same brisk determination Senku brought to every experiment, but something shifted halfway through. Where his movements had been sharp and deliberate, they softened, curiosity morphing into something less clinical, something electric. His hands, still gripping the edges of Gen’s coat, tightened reflexively as he leaned further in, eliminating the tiny gap between their bodies.

Gen, never one to shy away from a moment, let himself melt into the touch. His hands slid up from Senku’s shoulders to the back of his neck, fingers tangling in soft, snowy hair. He tugged gently, drawing a low sound from the scientist that sent a shiver down his spine.

Senku didn’t pull away. If anything, he pressed closer, his sharp focus now entirely on the sensation. Each movement of Gen’s lips, each shift of their bodies against the table, felt like data to be analyzed—and yet there was a growing heat in his chest, a thrum of energy that no equation could explain.

Gen, ever the performer, added a bit of flair to the kiss, nipping lightly at Senku’s bottom lip. That earned him a startled noise, followed by a growl of what could only be described as frustration.

“Stop that,” Senku murmured against his lips, his voice low and rough.

“Stop what?” Gen purred, feigning innocence as his nails scraped lightly against Senku’s nape.

“Adding variables,” Senku replied, his breath warm against Gen’s cheek.

Gen laughed softly, his voice low and teasing. “You’re the one turning this into a full-blown experiment, my dear scientist.”

“And you’re distracting me.” Senku’s lips brushed Gen’s again as he spoke, the words soft but firm. He pulled back slightly, enough to look Gen in the eyes. His own crimson gaze was sharp, but there was something else there now—an intensity that wasn’t quite annoyance or competition. Something deeper, more complex.

For once, Gen didn’t have a quick retort. His heart was pounding so hard it felt like it might burst. His usual bravado faltered under the weight of Senku’s gaze, and for a moment, he was simply Gen Asagiri, stripped of his resplendent stage persona.

“I distract you?” he asked softly, the words coming out more vulnerable than he intended.

Senku tilted his head, studying him like he might study an untested chemical. The corner of his mouth quirked upward in a small, knowing smile. “You always have,” he said simply, his voice matter-of-fact but laced with an unexpected warmth.

Gen blinked, caught off guard. His lips parted to reply, but Senku didn’t give him the chance. Instead, the scientist kissed him again, this time slower, with a purpose that had nothing to do with testing hypotheses. It was steady, almost tender, but it carried the same intensity and passion that Senku poured into everything he did.

Gen let himself sink into it, his hands moving to rest on Senku’s waist as he kissed back with equal fervor. The world seemed to blur around them, the quiet sounds of the lab fading into the background. The chalkboard equations, the experiments waiting to be completed—all of it melted away in the heat of the moment. All of it could wait until later.

When they finally broke apart, both of them were breathless. Senku’s cheeks were faintly flushed, a rare break in his usually composed demeanor. Gen, on the other hand, looked thoroughly dazed, his lips slightly swollen and his hair mussed from Senku’s grip.

“Well,” Gen said after a long pause, his voice husky. “I’m afraid your data may be skewed, my dear scientist.”

Senku raised an eyebrow, his lips quirking into a crooked grin. “How so?”

“True love’s kiss isn’t supposed to feel like…that,” Gen replied, gesturing vaguely between them. His tone was teasing, but his eyes betrayed his lingering awe. “It’s supposed to be magical and pure and—”

“That was magic,” Senku interrupted, his voice calm but firm.

Gen blinked again, surprised by the sincerity in Senku’s tone.

“I don’t believe in magic,” Senku continued, his lips curving into a faint smirk. “But I believe in chemistry. And if that wasn’t chemistry, I don’t know what is.”

Gen felt his breath catch in his throat. For once, he was at a loss for words. All he could do was stare at Senku, who, despite his casual tone, was looking at him with an intensity that felt almost too much to bear.

“Still skeptical?” Senku asked, tilting his head.

Gen chuckled softly, finally regaining some of his composure. “Oh no, my dear Senku. I’m quite convinced.” He leaned back against the table, his grin returning in full force. “However…I think we should conduct more tests. For the sake of science, of course.”

Senku’s grin widened, and he leaned in again, his hands resting on either side of Gen’s hips. “For the sake of science,” he agreed, his voice low and teasing.

And with that, they lost themselves in another kiss, one that was less about proving a point and more about savoring the undeniable spark between them. This time, there were no interruptions, no overthinking. Just two brilliant minds colliding like atoms in a moment of ignited nuclear fusion.

And if the lab stayed a little quieter than usual that night, well... no one needed to know.
