I love my Lan Zhan, oh yes I do!

Summary:

Wei Ying is singing about how much he loves Lan Zhan…Lan Zhan hears him from the room next door, but what, if anything, will he do about it?

Short Wangxian fluff!

Work Text:

“I love my Lan Zhan oh yes I do!,” Wei Ying sang as he danced around his room getting ready. Then he clapped his hands over his mouth. What was he doing saying it out loud like that? Lan Zhan was just in the room next door! What if he heard Wei Ying’s confession! He had to be more careful in the future, he thought to himself with a determined nod.

Next door, Lan Zhan was frozen in place. He had not heard incorrectly. Wei Ying had said loud and clear ‘I love my Lan Zhan oh yes I do’ he had to know Lan Zhan could hear him, they had had many conversations about how thin the walls in their dorm rooms were. It was a confession then. A singing one which made it more special to Lan Zhan as he came from a musical background. Wei Ying would be expecting a response and Lan Zhan did not intend to fail him. He ran out of the door to collect what he needed in order to give Wei Ying what he deserved.

Wei Ying left his dorm a few minutes later and knocked on Lan Zhan’s door. No response. He knocked again. Still nothing. He rang Lan Zhan’s phone but Lan Zhan didn’t pick up. Strange. They always walked to class together, today they had their optional Spanish language session first thing. They were planning a trip to Spain during their next break to try out what they had learned so far. Oh well, maybe Lan Zhan had headed off to class early.

When Wei Ying reached room L2.8, Lan Zhan wasn’t there. Wei Ying sat down and tried to concentrate on the lecture but he couldn’t stop worrying about where Lan Zhan was. After the lecture he tried Lan Zhan again and still didn’t get a response. Now Wei Ying was really worried. Lan Zhan never missed class, Lan Zhan also never ignored a call from Wei Ying, but maybe he would if…he had heard Wei Ying that morning and he didn’t know how to respond and was taking some time to figure out how to let Wei Ying down.

“My big mouth!” Wei Ying groaned and put his head in his hands.

“What about your big mouth?” Jiang Cheng asked, appearing in-front of Wei Ying in the corridor sipping a coffee. Wei Ying looked at the coffee longingly. He usually went for coffee after class with Lan Zhan.

“Why do you look like someone spat in your eye?” Jiang Cheng asked.

“Lovely imagery, thanks,” Wei Ying mumbled. “I said something stupid this morning and now Lan Zhan is avoiding me.”

“Oh, did he eventually confess? Did you turn him down?” Jiang Cheng asked.

Wei Ying’s eyes widened. “What? Lan Zhan doesn’t like me.”

“Yes he does.”

“Does not.”

“Does too.”

“I would know if he liked me!” Wei Ying cried. The corridor turned silent and his cheeks heated up.

Jiang Cheng snorted. “Look, I get it. My childhood messed me up a bit too, left me thinking that I wasn’t really worth much and why would anyone want me? Then I met someone who taught me to get past that.”

“You have a boyfriend?” Wei Ying squeaked.

Jiang Cheng rolled his eyes. “No, I have a therapist. You should get one too, but first it sounds like you should sort out whatever is going on between you and Lan Zhan.”

Wei Ying nodded. “Okay, do you really think he likes me?”

“He likes you, I would bet my collection of limited edition dog figurines on it.”

Wei Ying's mouth fell open. Jiang Cheng loved those dogs! He wouldn’t have bet them unless he was sure, so there had to be hope!

“Bye, Jiang Cheng! I’ll see you later!” Wei Ying shouted with a wave as he sped off to find Lan Zhan. Wei Ying looked everywhere, their coffee shop, the tree they usually sat under, he checked Lan Zhan’s next lecture room, the canteen at dinner time, he even rang Lan Huan, but there was no sign of Lan Zhan. Wei Ying’s thoughts turned anxious once more. If Lan Zhan was hiding this well he must be trying to turn Wei Ying down. If he felt the same, wouldn't he have just jumped into Wei Ying’s arms or appeared suddenly with flowers or…

“Wei Ying.”

And suddenly there was Lan Zhan standing at Wei Ying’s dorm room door, dressed in a suit with a bunch of flowers and a card with Wei Ying’s name on it. Maybe it was a heartfelt letter Lan Zhan had been writing all day…but that wasn’t what Wei Ying was focused on. There was no way Lan Zhan was going to turn him down like this, all dressed up and carrying gifts, there was only one explanation…Lan Zhan liked him back!

“You like me back!” Wei Ying shouted and hugged Lan Zhan fiercely. Lan Zhan hummed into his ear where they were pressed together. “Yes, I like you back, Wei Ying.”

“I thought maybe you were avoiding me because you didn’t want to be with me and you were trying to think of a way to gently let me down.”

Lan Zhan’s eyes widened with realisation. “I disappeared, I did not attend class, I did not think how Wei Ying would feel, I was so excited to hear you say you loved me back…Wei Ying…I’m sorry…I…”

Wei Ying kissed him, then pulled back and laughed. “I am sorry to silence the man I love when he is in the middle of stringing together the most words I have ever heard him say at once but please don’t worry yourself…I was worried for one day…you can spend the rest of our lives together making sure I never worry again.”

Lan Zhan kissed Wei Ying then smiled. “Mn. Wei Ying will never spend another day unsure of my love for him.”

“And you will never spend a day wondering if I love you. Because I do. Very much.” Wei Ying hugged Lan Zhan tightly and sighed. “There is one thing that makes me sad about this situation though…”

“What makes Wei Ying sad?” Lan Zhan enquired.

“I’m gonna have to tell Jiang Cheng he was right!” Wei Ying wailed.

Lan Zhan huffed out a laugh and kissed Wei Ying again and again and again and again
