Dizzy from his own saliva, the sounds around him were so intense that he imagined his eyes were popping out of his skull. Among all the sounds, he could hear only one thing: the cadet's heart. Racing and full of blood.
He listened to every palpitation. Every contraction and relaxation... And He could feel his own bones thundering as if they were being stretched, deform and twist to change its shape; and in his mouth there was a tension that was released as he had a tear in his gums.
With his hands trembling, his horror and panic only grew as he saw that his fingernails were sharp and pointed like those of a lizard. His neck was still burning as if something red-hot was touching his skin, and all he needed to do was rip off the chain with the hanging crucifix and throw it away...
