Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Chapter Text

Naruto had always been on his own, and he never cried, not in front of others anyway. He wasn’t particularly blessed with his studies, and his concentration was all over the place. He had friends, but only a few he truly trusted, and even then, he felt he couldn’t fully lay his thoughts bare. It wasn’t that they hadn’t tried to get him to open up, but after so many years of isolation and harsh treatment Naruto wasn’t sure he’d ever fully trust someone 100%. He knew the worst side of humans; he knew what monsters lurked behind those false smiles.

As long as Naruto could remember, people had always regarded him with disdain. Parents guided their kids away from him when he was younger, whispered about him wherever he went. Sometimes he was even beaten and bruised from trying to befriend others. However, his smile never faltered. He might have a broken tooth and blood pouring from his nose when he walked through the small village, but he always smiled. With time, he acted out, because of course he did. The villagers placed the blame on his parents, it was the bad genes, sour blood and violence that they insisted he had inherited from them. Even when he lived alone as a young boy, with no friends and no one around him, they still wouldn’t show kindness. So, he started making pranks, acting out and causing scenes, always being loud so they would at least look at him.

He hated his parents for a long time. They’d both been cast into prison for horrible crimes when he was just a baby, and the image of his parents had clung to him ever since.

When he became a teenager, despite still being lively and loud, he moved away for a fresh start where no one would know him. Finally, he managed to make a few friends. They knew nothing of his heritage or his past, but he had been marked since childhood from the pure hatred he had received.

Which was why, even now, being a university student in a big city, and an adult – he still felt that void inside him.

“Did you hear, we’re getting a transfer student?” Sakura whined joyfully next to him. Naruto smiled wickedly at her. “Should we give them a proper welcome.” She rolled her eyes. “I heard he’s coming from a fancy university.” She said, looking into the air with dreamy eyes.

It was the beginning of the third semester. Naruto had become friends with Sakura quickly, they both studied comparative literature. Naruto wasn’t particularly good at it, but his only friend from before moving here, Gaara, had wanted to study it, so naturally he’d joined. Naruto met Gaara in high school. Gaara was from the next town over, but he was kind of a loner, and they’d somehow connected through their loneliness.

Almost on cue, Gaara entered the classroom, his head silently bobbing with the music in his ears. He smiled once he recognized his friends. “What’s up!” He said cheerfully, an unusual mood for Gaara.

“What makes you so happy today?” Naruto couldn’t help but ask. Gaara almost shyly blushed as he busied himself with finding his computer and books. “It’s just nice weather today, don’t you think?” He shrugged. Naruto’s eyes glanced out of the window. It was raining. He sent a speculative look back at Gaara but didn’t ask further. Actually, he was just happy that his best friend could finally seem to enjoy anything besides his video games.

Sakura nudged his arm and nodded towards Gaara. “Look.” She said, he followed her gesture and noticed a small hickey on the side of his neck, almost hidden under his collar if he hadn’t just stretched. They both exchanged knowing glances and were about to start a thorough interrogation when the teacher entered, and the humming of the class fell silent.

Lady Tsunade’s high heels were clacking against the floor as she walked to the front of the classroom. She’d been their teacher in comparative literature 1, analytical research 2, and now history of literature 3. Naruto didn’t mind, actually he was glad she was teaching one of his courses again. She was a stern lady, but surprisingly clever. She insisted on being called Lady Tsunade for some reason, Naruto was certain it had something to do with the fact it helped disguise her real age, keeping the students guessing. She wasn’t young, but she looked it, and she abhorred anyone daring calling her old.

Just as she was about to begin Naruto noticed a shadow enter the classroom, taking the nearest seat to the entrance up front. He didn’t recognize the young man. Perhaps this was the mysterious transfer student Sakura had talked about? For some unknown reason his gaze was drawn to the guy. He was tall and lean, had muscles without looking like a gym-rat. His hair was long and black, tied messily into a bun. As he shed his jacket over the chair Naruto noticed tattoos slithering up his arms, mainly snakes.

“That must be him, don’t you think?” Sakura asked excitedly. “He’s so hot.” She whispered under her breath. Naruto let out a chuckle. Lady Tsunade slammed her book into the table as she looked sternly at their corner. They all fell silent. Luckily, instead of reprimanding them further, she began the lesson. History of literature focused on a time period each term, they were about to tackle the romantic age during this term. So, she started with the topic of the day: romantic gothic literature.

Naruto knew if he at least wanted a chance to keep up with the others he would have to take intense notes during her class. He was oddly aware his gaze drifted back to the new guy, but his head kept on pestering him to return to the studies.

As the lesson progressed and Lady Tsunade finally let them catch a break, Naruto was busy rubbing his aching eyes. He glanced helplessly at his notes. Several half-finished sentences where she’d talked too quickly for him to follow, but most of it he managed to write down. He spent his break finding pictures on the internet to put into his notes. He had always been a better visual learner, so it would help when he had to look back at his notes.

“I’m gonna go introduce myself.” Sakura said and got up from her seat determined. Naruto barely registered what she was saying until she was halfway through the classroom and neared in on the new guy.

When the words finally caught up with him his head snapped up. He was watching their interaction, trying to listen to their conversation, but they were too far away for him to get a proper idea. The guy looked bored, resting his head on his hand.

“I swear, the only time you become quiet is when you’re studying.” Gaara chuckled beside him. Naruto sent him a sidelong glance. “Well well well, and here I was almost too absorbed in my studies to remember asking you about that suspicious hickey on your neck.” Naruto asked with a slick smile.

Gaara’s hand shot up to cover his neck, his cheeks flushed. “W-what?” He asked.

“I guess that’s why you’re in such a good mood today, so tell me, who is he?”

Gaara looked awkwardly away, not eager to answer the question.

“Oh come on, if you can’t tell me, then who can you tell?” Naruto teased, wriggling his brows at Gaara who let out an entertained laugh. “I suppose… but I can’t… he isn’t, you know, out of the closet.”

Naruto raised a brow inconspicuously. Oh, he knew where this tale was going, and he did not like that direction.

“He doesn’t want people to know?” He asked quietly, trying to be considerate. Naruto knew such an interaction more likely than not, ended in heartbreak.

Gaara met his eyes, the same worry glancing over his eyes. “We aren’t officially together yet anyway… but I really do like him.”

Naruto’s gaze softened. “Well, I hope it works out then.” He said and reached out to squeeze Gaara’s hand. Naruto had long ago determined not to meddle with anyone ashamed to be with him. Mostly because of his upbringing. That was also the reason he’d never had a girlfriend or boyfriend. He hooked up with people when he was feeling frustrated or horny, but only casual fucks. He had no intention of settling into something permanent with anyone. He knew very well how disliked he was when someone knew of his past and he had no intention of willingly putting himself through that kind of emotional rollercoaster again.

Sakura sat down next to them with a sigh. “Not the talkative type?” Naruto guessed, and she nodded in despair. His gaze wandered back to the new guy. He was surprised to find the guy already looking back at them. Naruto felt enthralled by his eyes, different colors, and a faded scar was running through his brow. He had a gorgeous face to match the rest of his body.

“His name is Sasuke, that was the only information I got.” Sakura said and threw herself over the desk. Sasuke, what a lovely name. Naruto prolonged their eye-contact a few seconds longer before looking away.

“I hoped if I got to him early, he would get integrated into our group, but I already know he’ll be swamped with people once words get out, I mean, look at him, he’s beautiful.” She muttered annoyed under her breath. “And he smells rich.”

Naruto burst into laughter and felt a grin plaster itself onto his face. “Is that all you care about?”

“No! It’s just a benefit.” She protested flustered. “You know I always wanted a rich guy to spoil me rotten.” She argued. “Maybe you should look into getting a sugar-daddy?” Naruto suggested with a teasing tone.

“Maybe I should.” She speculated, which only made him laugh even more, Gaara even joined in.

Mid-laugh he felt his eyes drawn back to the orbit that was Sasuke’s broad back. However, Sasuke was still looking disinterested at him. Their eyes met once again before Sasuke turned back to face the front of the class.

Naruto ignored the pumping in his heart, convincing himself it was just because he was laughing like a wild animal and couldn’t catch his breath.

Chapter 2: Chapter 2

Chapter Text

They’d all chosen their elective course last year, so Naruto was already aware neither Sakura nor Gaara would take this course. Madness in the arts. He wasn’t surprised when he got into the classroom and didn’t recognize anyone.

“Can I sit here?” Naruto asked a young man sitting somewhere in the middle. He had been chatting with the girl next to him. He gave a polite smile. “Oh, I’m so sorry, I’m saving a seat for my friend.” He apologized.  Naruto looked around again, but most people already seemed to know at least one other person in the class, and it was clear they were sticking together.

“You’re blocking the path.” A voice grumbled coldly behind him.

“Oh, I’m so sorry!” He apologized and moved, glancing at the guy. Sasuke. He sat down somewhere in the back, not bothering getting close to anyone. Naruto had started moving before he even registered it. He jumped into the chair next to Sasuke with a relieved sigh. “I am so happy to know at least one other person.” He confessed with a chuckle.

“I didn’t tell you to follow me.” Sasuke pointed out annoyed. Naruto chuckled warmly and patted his back. “Oh don’t be so mean, I just wanted a desk-mate.” He held out a hand towards him with a smile. “I’m Naruto.”

Sasuke looked him up and down, not taking his hand. “Sasuke.” He said, almost like whisper in the wind. Naruto felt those piercing gazes that weren’t even directed at him. People were watching Sasuke and his every move. It didn’t take long before a cluster of people sat around Sasuke, asking questions about him before the class began. It was obvious he looked bothered. Naruto might’ve cared less if it wasn’t because they made such an effort to ignore him and only focused on Sasuke. Naruto let out a small huff of annoyance, but didn’t say another word.

Sure, Sasuke was good-looking, but Naruto wasn’t that bad himself. He might’ve had bed-hair, an old T-shirt with a worn orange hoodie over, but that didn’t mean ignoring him could be justified when he was sitting right next to the guy they were so obviously worshipping. Discreetly he found himself trying to get a sniff of himself to find out if he was smelling bad, but he couldn’t tell. Then he heard the most curious thing, a chuckle, right next to him. Naruto looked speculatively over at Sasuke who was hiding his grin in his palm. The reaction caused a delay from all the other students around him as they were enthralled by his beauty. Naruto felt a blush sneak onto his cheeks, and he looked hurriedly away.

Luckily, the awkwardness didn’t last long, as the teacher finally entered.

Much to Naruto’s surprise, he found himself rather relaxed beside Sasuke, and his notes had a good flow. Usually, he was quite distracted during lessons and had a hard time gathering his focus, so he was more than a little surprised he finally caught himself actually listening while his hands moved quickly over the keys.

“You write surprisingly detailed notes.” Sasuke remarked while taking a sip of water during their first break. Naruto had just finished putting in some images from Google to match the theme.

“Actually, not at all, usually I can’t focus that well during class.”

Sasuke leaned a bit closer, looking at Naruto’s screen. “But those are good notes.” He stated, like it was an obvious fact. “I like that you put pictures in.” He said, looking thoroughly over the screen, scanning it.

Naruto felt a blush spread over his cheeks. Was Sasuke complimenting him? Somehow that made Naruto strangely happy. He explained it away as a mere after-effect of not receiving a lot of compliments through his life, and not, NOT, because it was Sasuke saying it.

“T-thank you.” He stammered, embarrassed at not being able to keep a steady voice. Sasuke looked at him, still with his face very close, before a small grin plastered his lips.

My god.

“I’m gonna go refill my water.” Naruto squealed and urgently sprung from his seat, grabbing his water bottle and leaving the class in a hurry. Only when he entered the hallway did his shoulders relax. He clutched his hand over his chest, closing his eyes as he forcefully tried calming down his galloping heart. What on earth gave Sasuke the right to look at him like that? He rested against the wall and looked helplessly at his already full water bottle. He was so embarrassed.

What the hell was wrong with him? He didn’t normally react like this when someone looked at him. Not even with people he’d been hooking up with. Was he-? No, no surely not. That would be impossible. This would all go away after a few days and Sasuke would lose interest. All he had to do was just ignore him until that happened.

He only went back when he’d calmed down and carried a neutral face. Sasuke’s eyes were already following him like a hawk the second he entered, but he refused to look him in the eyes. He didn’t say anything when he returned, and he made an effort not to reveal any emotion despite being well aware that Sasuke was staring at him with a playful grin on his lips.

Chapter 3: Chapter 3

Chapter Text

Of course, Naruto’s plan was a lot easier said than done. It was proven the very next day. He went to sit in his usual spot, where Sakura was waving at him. He stilled when he saw the broad-backed man inhabiting the spot right behind him. It was the same in the next class and the next again. It took about a week of neutral expressions and an unusual quiet side of Naruto showed itself, making his friends worry, before he felt confident, he could ignore Sasuke’s glaring eyes.

He had gotten to class early, mostly because he had woken early due to a nightmare and had nothing better to do. So, he was slumped over his desk, nearly asleep while waiting for his friends to show up, when he felt a presence suddenly next to him. He tiredly opened his eyes to find Sasuke lying over the seat right next to him. So close he could hear his breath, see each individual eyelash surrounding his magnificent eyes. He shot back from his seat in surprise and scrambled to the floor. Sasuke groaned in complaint by the noise, reluctantly opening his eyes.

Naruto was more than a little flustered, his face pink and his ears burning. He could still smell the faint cologne Sasuke wore, the one that smelled rich with flavors.

“Come back to your seat, your face was blocking the sun.” Sasuke said, holding a hand above his face to shadow himself so he could open his eyes better.

“Just look the other way!” Naruto complained.

“I can’t, I hurt my neck.” He groaned annoyed.

“That isn’t my problem!” Naruto said beside himself with embarrassment. What exactly was Sasuke trying to do? Why was he trying to lure Naruto in, despite being the most reserved person in the class?

Well-aware he was going against his better judgement; Naruto felt his body automatically inching himself closer to Sasuke. Before he knew it, he was back in his seat. “You’re not blocking the sun.” Sasuke argued and with a strong grip, forced Naruto’s neck closer to the desk so he was almost laying down again.

When the hand left his neck, Naruto felt the burning sensation that lingered. He was suddenly feeling wide awake. He wrapped his hands under his head, looking strictly at the wooden desk, plagued with years of students using it. Out of the corner of his eye, he dared to glance at Sasuke, only to find him with completely open eyes, staring right back at Naruto. He hid his face away again.

“Right now, with the sun behind your head, you look like an angel.” Sasuke said calmly. Naruto refused to look at Sasuke, his face as red as tomatoes. Judging from Sasuke’s laugh, Naruto’s ears were probably red too.

“Say, do you like guys Naruto?” He whispered closely. Naruto felt a shiver run through his body, but still, he refused to meet his eyes. All of a sudden, the door to the classroom was busted open and some of the other students of the class arrived. Sasuke didn’t move, he stayed next to Naruto, taking the diskspace that normally was Sakura’s.

“You need to move, Sakura is coming.” Naruto said, finally regaining some of his composure.

“I’m sure she won’t mind.” Sasuke said in a soft voice, that made the hair on Naruto’s neck stand up. “Will you stop that!” Naruto burst out embarrassed.

“Stop what?” Sasuke asked innocently, looking mischievously at Naruto.

“You know what!” Naruto bickered.

“Could you elaborate?” He asked, leaning in closer, the scent of his cologne luring Naruto in. He was red-faced, acting like a child and lost all composure, but he didn’t mind. He kicked Sasuke under the table, making contact with his shin. Sasuke winced, but a playful grin quickly filled his face, and he kicked back. Offended Naruto retaliated, and so on and so forth. They were basically falling off the chairs while fighting as Sakura cleared her throat in front of them. Her arms were crossed, and she looked mockingly at the two of them like they were children as Naruto’s fist had closed around Sasuke’s hair and Sasuke was pulling at Naruto’s orange hoodie. They both let go of each other simultaneously, looking a mess.

“So, you seem to be getting along.” Sakura said with a devilish grin, she moved to sit beside Gaara that had been watching them intently for a while. Naruto crossed his arms disapprovingly and let out a huff of annoyance. Sasuke grinned at his reaction.

“Maybe you’d like to join us this Friday Sasuke? We’re going out for a dr-…”

“Absolutely not!” Naruto interrupted Sakura with a bewildered look. There was no way he was going out for a drink with Sasuke, no way!

“I would love to.” Sasuke said with an innocent smile. Naruto’s eyes shot lightening at him.

“I don’t get why you’re so riled up Naruto, you usually never get angry.” Sakura commented. Even Gaara seemed to find the whole thing somewhat entertaining as he was repressing a laughter.

“Obviously because he’s annoying me!” Naruto defended and made wide arm-movements to display his frustration with the situation. Suddenly his phone rung and Naruto forgot the heated discussion. Once he saw the display on his phone his attitude changed drastically like a dark cloak that had been sprawled over him. He left the classroom to answer.

“Naruto, how are you?” Kakashi sensei asked, his voice gentle. “What is it sensei?” Naruto asked concerned. Kakashi sensei would never call unless it was important. “Can you talk, or is it a bad time?” He asked quietly.

Naruto glanced up at the clock. “Hold on a minute.” He said as he hurried back into the class and gathered his things. He noticed his friends’ questioning stares, most of all Sasuke’s, but he gave them a simple smile and some innocent excuse about having an appointment he’d forgotten.

As soon as he was back in the hallway, Kakashi sensei started to talk. Naruto listened intently as he walked in a hurried state, until the bad news left Kakashi sensei’s lips. “Hiruzen Sarutobi is dead.” Naruto stopped, his whole body tensing up. He felt the phone slip from his hand, hitting the floor like a water drop.

“Naruto, Naruto?” He heard Kakashi sensei’s voice on the other end. Reluctantly he picked it back up.

“When is the funeral?”

“Saturday.” Kakashi sensei answered.

He hung up shortly after, returning to his apartment in a daze, only moving from muscle memory. Once he was inside, he plopped onto his bed, staring up at the ceiling without knowing how to process his many emotions.

Hiruzen Sarutobi was Naruto’s legal guardian. He was the mayor of the small village he came from. Once his parents were sent away, Hiruzen Sarutobi resumed their responsibilities. He looked out for Naruto and bought him a small place. When he was very young, Hiruzen was there almost every day, but as he grew up, Hiruzen’s responsibilities and Naruto’s ability to somewhat take care of himself drifted them apart. Hiruzen was a busy man, but whenever he saw Naruto, he always made an effort to tell him stories and to try and make him smile. Naruto, living mostly alone since he was seven, didn’t blame Hiruzen, and he never had. It was the other village people that were angry with Naruto, and Hiruzen couldn’t control their actions, besides, he never saw it directly, they would never do anything when he was around Naruto.

He picked up his phone and wrote a text on the group chat.

Hey, something came up, so I can’t go Friday, but we can go crazy next weekend;))

Then he turned his phone off and curled up in his bed, clutching his bedspreads around him, so it almost felt like a hug.

Chapter 4: Chapter 4

Chapter Text

Naruto went home Friday morning, arriving at Konoha village in the afternoon. His eyes were planted to the ground as he walked through the town. He had hoped he would’ve left this town for good, but alas, here he was.

“Isn’t that-…”

“Just ignore him.”

The whispers were already starting to spread. Naruto let out a strained sigh. He had almost gotten through the town peacefully when he halted at his old apartment. It was rundown and very worn, but now he could see the words written in bold letters over his door. Rotten child. It was very obvious someone had written it recently; the paint was still wet. It’s not worth it, Naruto thought to himself while clutching his fists. When he turned the key to his door, he was not surprised to be met with several envelopes on the floor. All of them with slurs on the front page, except for one. He looked at the stamp before collecting all the envelopes and throwing them into the trashcan. It was from his sperm donor of a father.

Naruto looked around the place, it was dirty, but empty. He had taken all of his things with him when he moved, now there was only the old furniture and the creaky bed. He had just put down his bag when there was a knock on the door.

Naruto looked through the peephole of the door before opening. He’d learned the hard way that he should do that every time he opened the door. Kakashi sensei. Naruto let out a relieved sigh.

“Hi Naruto, good to see you.” He said, patting his shoulder awkwardly as Naruto opened the door. Naruto grinned at his lack of social skills.

“Fresh ramen, my treat?” He asked. Naruto lit up at the idea. It’d been ages since he last had homemade ramen. The best place to get it was Ramen Ichiraku, nowhere in the big city did they make them as good. Now, Teuchi and Naruto had history. Once when Naruto was just a child, seeking refuge from some older kids chasing him, he discovered Teuchi’s shop. Despite Teuchi not being happy about seeing the notorious kid, he didn’t exactly push him away. Instead, they worked out some sort of deal. If Naruto helped work there sometimes, cleaning the floors, washing dishes or other odd-jobs, Teuchi would make him his favorite ramen. Ramen Ichiraku had for years been Naruto’s sanctuary, it wasn’t crowded with people, and Teuchi was tough, but treated him like any other kid from the street which always had been something Naruto was grateful for.

“Well if it isn’t our dear troublemaker returning from his studies!” Teuchi teased as he instantly started preparing Naruto’s dish. Kakashi sensei observed for a while before pulling out a very explicit and pornographic book. Naruto shook his head as he noticed it. Kakashi sensei had always been notorious for his book-preferences, and the fact he never read them in silence. It took him back to the old days.

“Still active in the dojo?” Kakashi sensei asked, glancing over at him.

“I am, although it is not the same as yours, but it’s alright.”

Hiruzen had introduced Naruto to Kakashi sensei when he was younger and started making trouble. Kakashi sensei owned a dojo, teaching various techniques. It had been one of the few things Naruto had been good at, and despite the other kids not wanting to spar with him, he didn’t mind, because he knew Kakashi sensei always would if no one else volunteered.

“And what do they think of your potential?” Kakashi sensei asked innocently, but Naruto was well aware of what he was getting at. He’d been trying for years to get Naruto to sign up in official competition, believing he would excel at it. “It’s just for fun sensei, besides I’m busy studying.” Naruto chuckled. They chatted casually for a bit. Naruto was ignoring the piercing eyes penetrating his neck from some other customers, and he didn’t let it show that he knew.

When Naruto said his goodbyes to Kakashi sensei and Teuchi, he was walking in the dim light of the night. He was enjoying the peace in the small town. It was better at night when there weren’t any people around to point fingers and say things.

“Oi!” Naruto heard from behind him, as he turned, he became drenched in beer. Some dumb drunkard had thrown the glass at him. “Your parents were the cause of my shop closing down for good, you prick.”

Naruto didn’t fight the blow that landed on his face, and he was pushed to the ground as the man spat at him before turning to leave. Naruto sat on the filthy ground with his knuckles white from pressing his nails into his palms. He had learned that fighting back often caused the opposite effect. No one would take his side when he did, they would all spin the story, and since they all thought him to be some criminal like his parents, he was treated as such. Naruto’s cheeks were burning with anger, and his palms were wet from the blood as his nails had breached his skin. He picked himself up and walked on. His cheek was stinging and his head ringing, but he would never let the suckers see him affected in any way.

He immediately went to his shower as he entered his apartment, now a new word was painted on his door. Killer. He had ignored as he had taught himself to do. His clothes smelled of beer and he was sticky all over. He glanced a moment in the mirror. It would be bruised the next day. He was angry that he had to attend Hiruzen’s funeral with a fucked-up face, but the villagers couldn’t scare him away from the funeral even if they tried. He had as much right to attend as anybody else.

The water was cold. Someone had cut off the heat supply. Still, it was water nonetheless, and soon enough he would be out of here again and back in the comfort of his own apartment.

Naruto slept restlessly, waking several times from nightmares, but he stayed in the childhood bed until the first rays of sunshine shone through his tattered old curtains.

He was dressed in a modest black suit as he walked towards the Townsquare. Everyone had loved and cared for Hiruzen, so it was a big assembly. Kakashi sensei waved him over to an empty seat he’d saved for him. He heard several comments about how unfair and unfitting it was for the rotten child to receive a chair at the very front and not stand in the back as the lowly scum he was.

“What happened to your eye?” Kakashi Sensei asked as he looked at the bruised chin and bloodshot eye. Naruto waved him off with a carefree smile. “I tripped, silly me.” He said apologetically. Kakashi sensei didn’t look convinced, he was more than aware of the general attitude towards Naruto here, but he was also aware that Naruto would only be in more trouble if he spoke up. A pained look filled his face, but Naruto only smiled reassuringly. “It’s okay to fight back.” He said quietly. Naruto only persisted in his story. “I just fell, I can’t fight the stairs.” He chuckled innocently.

Only a select few were allowed to sit, the closest friends and family, the rest had gathered in a crescent moon around the open coffin.

Naruto’s gaze drifted towards the coffin and the peaceful face of the elderly man. To think a heart-attack was enough to stop that man from living was beyond Naruto’s imagination. As the ceremony began and several people had something to say about the man, they all knew and loved, Naruto held up the smile on his face despite the tears lingering in his eyes. No, he would not cry. He had no eyes for the other attendees of the ceremony, only looked at the old man, feeling the loss of his presence. As the speeches came to a stop, groups gathered around the coffin to offer their goodbye’s. Naruto fell into the line, a single white rose in his hands that he mindlessly played with.

He had stood there patiently, waiting his turn, but as soon as he got close, someone held out an arm to stop him. “You don’t get to say goodbye with all the shame you brought over the village and that great man.” The grown man uttered bitterly.

“What? That’s bullshit!” Naruto burst out, catching the attention of some nearby onlookers.

“What did you expect? This is your own fault.” He snickered. Naruto recognized him as one of the teachers at the school, the man had been close to Hiruzen, but had always hated Naruto.

“I can’t believe that ruffian is trying to make a scene at a funeral of all places.” Someone said close to the coffin.

“T-that’s not fair!” Naruto said, shoving the hand aside.

Two other people, a man and a woman stepped in front, closing the view of the coffin to Naruto. “You can’t be serious, the man raised me! He loved me!”

“He loved you!?” Some woman burst out into laughter close by, and others followed like it was a preposterous statement.

Kakashi sensei moved in on Naruto. “Let the boy say his goodbyes.” He insisted, glaring at the people refusing him entry. They didn’t move, but Naruto didn’t care, he swept behind them in a snake-like manner and approached the coffin. He had just bowed his head and was about to say a prayer when he was yanked away by his arm.

“You disgraced the man while he was living, we won’t let you do it when he’s dead.” Someone snickered.

Naruto was overcome with grief, and they wouldn’t let him enter. He felt his defense mechanism kick in. He smiled despite his sinking gut.

“And look at this, the kid is even smiling, leave this ceremony now, you don’t deserve to be here.”

Naruto’s arm was burning uncomfortably at the strong hold the guy had on him. Somewhere in the background he heard Kakashi sensei protest and trying to move forward, but a group prevented him from doing so. Naruto’s thoughts were spiraling, his eyes were planted to the dull ground, a strained smile plastered on his face as he felt the warm and wet tears roll down his cheeks. When he looked up to meet the man’s eyes, he let go of his arm, staring in shock at Naruto. “You psychotic freak!” He spat evilly. “How can you smile at such an event.”

Naruto felt himself breaking down inside.

“The killer boy is even crying, how ridiculous!” Someone else yelled before wicked laughter filled the space. No no no no no! Why? Why were they all so mean?

“Let Naruto say his goodbyes, you awful people ought to be ashamed of yourselves!” Some cold voice said loudly, silencing the crowd. They all stiffened as the person stepped forth. Naruto managed to catch a glimpse of his defender. His eyes widened in shock. Sasuke. What on earth was he doing here? Sasuke stepped closer to Naruto, but he wasn’t looking at him, he was looking around scowling. “Grown people acting like inbreds, this is a funeral, not some bullying contest, what the hell is wrong with you, Hiruzen would be ashamed of seeing his people act in this manner!”

Heads started lowering to the ground as he spoke, Naruto was staring, helplessly stuck in his place. However, as reality of the situation kicked in, and he realized they were too busy avoiding Sasuke’s gaze to notice Naruto, he slipped to the coffin again, putting down his white rose, looking at the elderly man fondly. He folded his hands and offered a prayer, wishing him the best in his next life. He wiped his cheeks clean before turning back to the assembly. Leaving in a hurry, pushing past bystanders to get out of there. He hadn’t gotten far before he heard his name called out. “Naruto!” It was Sasuke’s voice, but it had lost all the anger it had previously held. Naruto stopped, but didn’t turn around to look at him. He was afraid of what he would see if he turned around.

Suddenly, he was pulled around, facing Sasuke, but he didn’t have time to get a look at his expression before he felt himself pressed into the warm layers of the traditional clothes Sasuke was wearing. He stiffened under what he assumed to be a hug. He wasn’t sure Naruto hadn’t received many hugs before, and his mind was even more messy now than it usually was.

“That was awful, I am so sorry, are you okay?” Sasuke asked in a soft voice, clutching Naruto closer like he was scared he would disappear if he didn’t

“W-what?” Naruto asked confused at the whole situation. What was Sasuke even doing here? And why on earth was he standing up for him. The villagers were right, he hadn’t deserved to say goodbye to the precious old man, this was all his own fault.

He started shaking as the thoughts clawed their way into his head, the monstrous voices of the villagers, their laughter echoing in his mind as they saw him crying.

Sasuke pulled shortly away, staring at Naruto with a softness in his face he hadn’t seen before. “It’s okay, you don’t have to smile all the time.” He whispered, patting his head. Naruto hadn’t even noticed his face was contorted into a smile. Then, as if a wrecking ball hit his mind, the smile fell from his lips and he fell into Sasuke’s arms, clutching his clothes, crying and weeping like there was no tomorrow. Sasuke just held him firmly, not giving any sign of ever letting go, and Naruto got lost in the comfort he’d so often wished for but never received. At some point Sasuke strengthened his hold, lifting Naruto off the ground, carrying him like a child in his arms. As Naruto let out the saddest sobs the world had ever known. He clung to Sasuke like he was the only grounding thing that kept him on this earth, burying his face in the crook of his neck, not once meeting the taller guy’s concerned eyes. Somehow Sasuke carried him to Naruto’s old apartment. He grimaced at the horrid words painted on the door before pushing it open. It hadn’t been locked. As Sasuke looked around in the worn and neglected apartment, he felt sick, not that Naruto noticed, he was too busy crying his heart out like he had never allowed himself to do before. Sasuke found the bedroom and gently put Naruto down, reluctantly letting him go. “I’ll go and ge-…” Sasuke was interrupted by Naruto’s slender fingers wrapping around his wrist. “Stay, please.” He muttered without looking up. Sasuke cracked as he saw the rawness of the young man, and didn’t hesitate to jump into the bed, wrapping his arms securely around Naruto as he gently laid down. Naruto was hiding his face in Sasuke’s robes, hiccupping while crying. Despite Sasuke’s building fury towards the behavior of the villagers and his need to reprimand them, he couldn’t leave Naruto like this. He was at a loss as to what this kind man had ever done to deserve such wretched comments thrown in his face. Sasuke knew, he had known after their very first day in school. He had gone home, made some calls to find out about the intriguing guy in his class he couldn’t take his eyes off. Being an Uchiha, getting such intel was no problem. Coming to Konoha village was purely a polite appearance to show his family’s respect to the deceased elder his family had been close with. However, nothing could have prepared him to see Naruto with a black eye and swollen face, smiling through the pain, and even more so the wicked actions of the villagers. He had been furious, ready to kill every single one of them for hurting Naruto like this. He was still shaking with anger. But for now, he would have to be satisfied with being there for Naruto, that was after all the most important thing.

Sasuke was running his hands through those wild locks of blonde hair. He had never been good at emotions, even less so comforting people, but he tried his hardest for once in his life, for Naruto.

It took a while, neither of them had any idea exactly how long until they’d both calmed somewhat down. Naruto had fallen asleep with tear-stained cheeks and desperately tugging at Sasuke.

Finally, Naruto stirred, slowly waking up, his eyes red and swollen. He met Sasuke’s eyes hesitantly, perhaps even with a scared glint in his eyes. Sasuke promised himself he would thoroughly discipline everyone that had made Naruto’s beautiful blue eyes puffy and red from crying. Sasuke gently removed a strand of wild hair, looking softly at Naruto.

“I-I’m sorry, I don’t know what came over me.” Naruto apologized and drew back, leaving a burning feeling where his hands had once been.

“Don’t be, it wasn’t your fault, none of this is.” He said, sitting up so he could face Naruto properly. Naruto looked at him pained, like he was disagreeing. Sasuke cupped Naruto’s face. He leaned his face closer, only inches from Naruto and maintained soul-seeking eye contact. “None of this is your fault.” He repeated, putting pressure on each word. Naruto looked ready to break down crying again, but he didn’t. Sasuke carefully let him go. “Would you like some tea, I’ll go get some.” He said. “Change your clothes into something more comfortable meanwhile.” He said and smiled reassuringly back at Naruto before disappearing.

Naruto’s mind was still racing as Sasuke left the room, but nonetheless, he found himself complying with the orders. It almost gave him a sense of purpose, otherwise he knew he would simply be staring blankly at the moldy ceiling. He almost felt embarrassed as he realized Sasuke had brought him here and seen the dingy apartment.

Naruto found Sasuke sitting on the couch, two cups of tea in front of them. He noticed they were bought from a nearby store, since there was nothing to make tea of in the apartment. Once again, he was embarrassed.

He moved to sit furthest away from Sasuke on the couch. He was unsure of how to deal with this situation. Clearly, Sasuke had no idea about his history or family situation, otherwise he would never have stood up for him like he did. The proper thing would be to tell Sasuke everything, to rip the band-aid off before it got any harder… but then again, Naruto was desperately clinging to the comfort Sasuke had showed, a comfort he’d never received before, and he didn’t want it to end. So, instead he was sitting quietly on the sofa, sipping his tea, randomly stealing glances in his direction.

“Do you want to talk about it?” Sasuke asked, breaking the silence. Naruto stiffened at the question. He was well aware what was the right thing to do or say, but instead he shrugged, clinging to that warmth Sasuke had shown.

“Has it always been this bad?” Sasuke asked, unable to stop himself from asking the question that had been bothering him for hours.

Naruto glanced up at him before setting his sights back on his cup.

“Answer me… please.” Sasuke pleaded.

“I-it really isn’t that bad, I mean, there’s a good reason for it…” His voice stilled.

“There is no good reason for this kind of behavior.” Sasuke determined coldly. Naruto glanced up at him, almost with a sparkle of hope in his eyes.

“Y-you don’t know the whole story, Sasuke.” Naruto almost whispered, unwilling or unable to meet his eyes. “If you knew, you wouldn’t be so lenient with me.”

Sasuke felt a streak of red paint his cheeks. Rage simmering inside of him. Just what had they done to this man to bury his self-worth so deeply inside, that he genuinely would believe what they said.

“Naruto.” Sasuke said, his voice was angry, trembling with fury. “You do not deserve this treatment, no matter what your parents have done, you are innocent to the crimes they’re blaming you for.”

Naruto’s cup fell from his hands, gushing over the floor. His eyes sticking to Sasuke like glue. “W-what do you know of my parents?”

“I know what they did Naruto, but what they’ve done, no matter how terrible, isn’t your burden to bear. You are in no way possible responsible for your parents’ actions… and what this village has done to you, has been cruel and malicious.” Sasuke said with a serious face. He was clutching his hands into fists, shaking in anger, but for once, Naruto found that the anger in front of him, wasn’t directed at him.

“You knew?” Naruto asked speechlessly. “How long?”

“Since the first day of school.” Sasuke confessed.

“B-but, no this doesn’t make any sense… why wouldn’t you… why haven’t you done anything?” He asked confused.

“Because it doesn’t matter.” Sasuke said sternly. “Whatever mindset this village has instilled in you is poisonous and unjust… why should I care that you have shitty parents when I know you aren’t a shitty person? What right does anyone have to judge you for another person’s actions?” He said before leaning back in defeat, running his hands through his hair that had come undone. “I simply, I simply can’t believe what this place has put you through! It makes my blood boil, I just want to rip off their heads and dance on their graves, I hate them for what they-…”

Naruto let out a small chuckle, catching Sasuke’s attention. That was Naruto’s first real smile all day, and it was breathtaking. The way his dimples sprung out when he truly laughed or smiled, the way his eyes were all shiny.

Sasuke let out a relived sigh. Seeing that cutie’s face light up light that made his heart skip a beat. He had known since the first day of school that Naruto was special. He hadn’t been able to take his eyes off him. He was smaller than Sasuke, not as bulky, but still with a fair share of muscles. His unruly hair had reminded him of the sun and when he smiled Sasuke was amazed at how everyone wasn’t fawning over him like he was God-sent.

“Why are you looking at me like that?” Naruto asked shyly and pulled Sasuke out of his thoughts. “Just sunbathing.” Sasuke said absentmindedly which made Naruto snort another chuckle. “You’re weird.” He commented. “And who are you anyway? I’ve never seen the villagers be so obedient before, not even to Hiruzen.”

Sasuke sent Naruto a knowing smirk. “I’m Sasuke Uchiha.” He said, expected Naruto to gasp in surprise or something. Instead, Naruto burst into joyful laughter, heaving for air when he spoke. “Why… did you… say it… like that… idiot!” He laughed some more, clutching his stomach.

Sasuke looked at him shocked. Why wasn’t he reacting. “What do you mean?” He asked annoyed.

“You look ridiculous, smolder face.” He laughed again. The joke went completely over Sasuke’s head, and instead he crossed his arms sassily, which only made Naruto laugh some more. “Alright, alright I’m sorry, but what the hell was that? Alright, so your name is Sasuke Uchida, so what?”

“Uchiha, it’s Uchiha dumbass.”

“Right sorry.” Naruto smiled, hiding his grin in his hand. Sasuke thought he looked adorable like that and almost forgave him for making fun of him.

“I come from a very, very, influential family.”

“Oh, so you are rich, just like Sakura predicted?”

“Excuse me?” Sasuke asked baffled, still not receiving the reaction he had thought he would.

“She said you smelled rich.” Naruto chuckled.

“I do not smell!” Sasuke burst out offended, once again completely oblivious.

“Listen, my family almost owns this shithole of a town, everyone here should know the Uchiha name!”

Naruto cocked his head askew and looked at him teasingly. “Alright well the town never cared much for me, why should I care for it?”

Sasuke looked at him dumbfounded. “Good, you really are impossible to impress.”

“You want to impress me?” Naruto teased.

Sasuke looked away, hiding the blush over his cheeks. “No, of course not, don’t be an idiot.” He said angrily.

“Well, if it matters, you already impressed me.” Naruto said, sending him a warm gaze. “You stood up for me and accepted me even though you knew about my background, to me, that is the most impressive thing of all.” He said it so sweetly Sasuke couldn’t help but meet his beaming eyes. Blue eyes that genuinely looked happy, thankful even.

“God, you’re so pretty.” Sasuke mumbled under his breath.

“What?”

“What?”

“I think you sai-…”

“You must be hearing things.” Sasuke interrupted holding up a hand dismissively. “Anyway, it’s getting late, do you want to stay here for the night or go back to the city now?”

“Now? But there aren’t any busses.” Naruto pointed out. Sasuke rolled his eyes. “I have a driver waiting for my signal.”

“Really?”

“Really.”

“Smelling rich must come with its perks.” Naruto smiled jokingly.

The ride home was comfortable. Naruto had never been inside such a luxurious car. Before they left Kakashi sensei caught them to check up on Naruto and was relieved to find Naruto smiling in Sasuke’s company. Sasuke had even picked up some takeaway to eat in the car, reminding Naruto to stop his stomach from growling. However, Naruto had quickly eaten and managed to squeeze himself down with his head in Sasuke’s lap, which had left him baffled. It didn’t take him long to mindlessly start nuzzling the blonde hair though, and not long after, Naruto drifted into sleep.

Chapter 5: Chapter 5

Chapter Text

After that weekend, something changed in Naruto. He had never experienced someone so earnestly explaining the cruelty he had experienced as wrongdoing. He had never seen someone care so much for him, even less so, someone that still cared after knowing his history. He hadn’t noticed it as fast as his friends had, that extra jump in his step, a lingering smile that for once wasn’t forced… perhaps the most noticeable difference was the way he carried himself, like he was a man deserving of more than he had been offered.

Of course, that weekend had also started a bond between Naruto and Sasuke. They got closer, hung out a lot, often studying together or watched movies. Sakura and Gaara had been watching in silence from the sidelines, eagerly waiting for them to make it official. However, the wait became too much for Sakura one day.

“When will you stop this madness and just confess that you’re dating, instead of hiding it?” She asked Naruto. He nearly choked on his food and had to receive a slap on the back from Gaara to cough it up. “Dating, dating who?” Naruto asked.

“Sasuke of course.”

Naruto scrunched his brows in confusion. “But we aren’t dating, we’re just friends.”

“Just friends?” Gaara asked mockingly, looking not one bit convinced.

“Yeah, just friends!”

“Friends with benefits?” Sakura added.

“Of course not, that oaf haven’t even kissed me yet.”

“So you do want him to?” Gaara asked wriggling his brows. Naruto felt a deep blush spread across his face as he hid it in his hands.

“We’re just getting to know each other.” Naruto explained. “Besides, I’m not even sure if… if you know, he’s into guys.”

“Oh come of it, of course he is.” Sakura said, slapping the back of his head. “He’s basically drooling over you.”

“H-he is?” Naruto asked shyly.

“Well look at this, our little Loverboy is finally falling in love.” Gaara said and whistled. “We should celebrate.” He added and Sakura agreed. “Definitely.”

“I don’t, I don’t think all of that is necessary.” Naruto argued, waving his hands around dismissively.

“What isn’t necessary?” Sasuke asked as he sat down beside Naruto. Sakura and Gaara sent each other knowing looks while Naruto forced his head in the opposite direction.

“A celebration.” Sakura said with a smirk.

“What for?” Sasuke asked interested.

“Oh, well, life you know.” She chuckled and Gaara joined her.

Sasuke nudged Naruto gently. “Do you know what they’re talking about?” He leaned in and whispered, his warm breath reaching Naruto’s neck.

“Uh nothing, they’re just being silly.” Naruto said, snapping his head back, nearly smashing it into Sasuke’s. He backed away embarrassed while Sasuke chuckled at his reaction.

“This Friday, we’re going out Sasuke, wanna join?” Gaara asked.

“Are you going?” Sasuke asked, looking directly at Naruto. God, he felt himself grow hot under the piercing gaze. “Um, not sure yet.”

“Oh, okay.”

“Are you kidding? Don’t worry Sasuke, I’ll drag him there myself if I have to.” Sakura said and winked at Sasuke knowingly. He just looked confused, and Naruto hoped if he stared at the floor long enough, he would just melt into it and fade into the background.

“Hold him still Gaara!” Sakura yelped as she was struggling with some eyeliner. “I’m trying, he’s like a worm!” Gaara yelled back, jumping on top of Naruto to hold him still. Sakura giggled at the sight before she continued. “Ow, be gentle!” Naruto gasped as Sakura poked him in the eye with the kohl-pencil.

“Man up Naruto, you want to look your best for your boyfriend right?”

“He’s not my boyfriend!” Naruto protested. “Not yet anyway.” He mumbled mostly to himself, but it made Gaara giggle.

Sakura managed to finish the light makeup around his eyes, some smudgy makeup with a bit of glitter and mascara. “And clothes, Gaara, don’t you have something hot for him, Naruto only ever wears those ragged hoodies, he needs to lure his man in, show off his body!”

Naruto covered his chest with his arms despite still being fully clothed. “Oh don’t be such a nun Naruto, here, liquid courage!” Sakura encouraged before shoving a shot glass into his hand. He downed it in a big gulp, feeling the warmth spread through his throat.

Alright, he wanted to impress Sasuke, no more fooling around!

Naruto got up determined from the bed in Gaara’s apartment and headed straight for the closet. Ironically enough. Sakura cheered him on as he looked through clothes. Suddenly Gaara pulled out a simple white tank top that was shredded in the bottom, making it more of a crop top. “Maybe this is more your style?” He suggested. “Oh and pants, I have these really oversized rugged pants that would make the perfect effortless sexy look. Naruto had never worn a crop-top before and he looked it over concerned before helplessly holding out his hand to Sakura that obligingly pulled out another shot for him.

Naruto looked himself over in the mirror, he looked… well, hot. My God, he had no idea he could look like this. “My God, why have you been hiding a body like this?” Sakura asked with a pink blush on her cheeks. Naruto was slender, but had muscle, his waist was somewhat small for a man, but this outfit really enhanced that, making him look almost slutty, in a good way. He was covered in jewelry, his hair as wild as ever, but it kind of matched the look. He turned around to get a look at his butt. Oh yeah. The pants fit him perfectly, snugly hugging so low on his waist it almost exposed his ass.

“If this doesn’t work on Sasuke, I don’t know what will.” Gaara said shocked, staring at his best friend like he had never seen him before. “I need a couple of more shots before going out like this.” Naruto said nervously. “This is way out of my comfort zone.”

Sakura was quick to find the bottle of fireball they’d been going at all evening. The three friends took a couple of rounds of shots, packed their things, even stuffed a small conspicuous bottle into Gaara’s handbag before leaving.

Naruto was a bit tipsy, far from drunk, but he felt himself caring less about the looks they received.

“Right so Sasuke said he would already be there with some of his friends.” Sakura said, reading from her phone.

“Didn’t know Sasuke had any friends.” Gaara admitted.

“Of course he does, but they don’t attend our university.” Naruto explained like it was the most natural thing in the world. “You think he has any hot straight friends?” Sakura asked, hooking onto his arm. “Any hot gay friends?” Gaara asked, taking his other arm.

“What about your… erhm… situationship?” Naruto asked concerned.

Gaara shrugged. “He wants it a secret, I don’t, so I dumped him.” He looked so nonchalant about it like it didn’t matter at all. Naruto looked for any undertones of sadness in his eyes but was surprised to find nothing. “Oh don’t look at me like that, I was pouty for a couple of days, but that was it.”

“Oh both my little boys have grown up so much!” Sakura teased, reaching over to squeeze Gaara’s shoulder.

They neared in on the nightclub, Naruto was painfully aware he was being watched. He certainly wasn’t used to this much attention, even less so because he was wearing slightly provocative clothing.

“I’m kind of nervous.” He admitted as the queue slowly moved forward.

“Don’t be, I’ll bet you he will completely space out once he sees you.” Sakura reassured.

“I think he’ll spit out his drink.” Gaara joined in with a mischievous grin. Naruto blushed at his friends encouragement. He was hoping for once to be the one to make Sasuke blush. They’d certainly gotten closer with Sasuke during the last couple of months, and Sasuke had more than once insinuated his interest in him, which was why he didn’t understand why he hadn’t made a move yet.

As they finally were let in and got a look around, the sparkling lights and smoke machine caught up with them. Naruto inhaled the scent of perfume and sweat mixed together with the pungent smell of alcohol.

“Wanna go grab a drink?” Sakura asked, nudging her two friends along.

Naruto looked around for any sight of Sasuke, but the thick crowd didn’t really allow him to scout around without him looking too obvious. Sakura had to yell their order to the bartender to compete with the music, and it took a while since the club was packed. Usually, the three of them stuck to bars more often than clubs, since it was easier to have a conversation, but it was a nice change of pace.

“Sasuke said they’re in the lounge somewhere.” Sakura leaned in and yelled while handing him his drink. Naruto was almost kind of glad she was in charge of texting and communicating with Sasuke right now, then he just had to follow without making it too obvious he was dying to see him.

Sakura started moving through the crowds, it eased up a bit once you got away from the bar, which gave Naruto room to breathe. Him and Gaara simply followed behind her like lost puppies. “There he is!” Sakura exclaimed, making Naruto’s face snap around. God, he looked good. Sasuke was leaned back against the sofa, he wore sleek straight-legged slacks held up by a small belt and a black dress shirt that had been rolled up, exposing his muscular and tattooed arms. He was surrounded by a small group of people, Naruto guessed they were his friends, despite having never met them before.

Determined he headed over in their direction, downing his drink on the way.

“Sasuke!” Sakura exclaimed, beating Naruto to it, calling his attention. His face turned, and the drink on the way to his lips stopped mid-movement, lingering in the air as he stared, completely dismissing Sakura.

His mixed eyes took in every part of Naruto, examining his body with an open mouth in surprise. His eyes lingered at the exposed waist he’d been dreaming about for months now, and the slender, yet muscular torso. He admired the beauty of the man before him without registering any of his friends’ words, he was too busy capturing the memory of Naruto like this and storing it in his mind.

Sakura was the one who broke the silence that had been cast between the two groups, starting a round of introductions, looking over Sasuke’s friends: Shikamaru, Tenten, Neji and Kiba. Naruto was all smiles as he introduced himself, although he was very aware at the shocked stares that lingered in their eyes, shooting from him to Sasuke and then back to him again.

“Is this the guy you’ve been hiding Sasuke?” Tenten teased, shoving him lightly. “I can see why you didn’t want anyone to meet him before now.” Naruto blushed at her comment but still smiled. His eyes looking nervously back at Sasuke that had been mesmerized by his sharp jawline and those piercing blue eyes. Naruto had to look away, blushing once more. Sasuke looked hungry.

Both Sakura and Gaara sat down amongst Sasuke’s friends, quickly making small talk. Naruto noticed Shikamaru moving over to make space for him to join, but the second he started moving, Sasuke was faster, moving closer to Shikamaru so the only space open was the one next to the end of the sofa and Sasuke, almost like he was cornered in. Shikamaru shot Sasuke a glance before rolling his eyes.

“Stop looking at me like that.” Naruto said and slapped Sasuke’s neck, snapping him out of his daze. “It’s not my fault!” Sasuke said, finally finding his voice. “You’re the one who… who…” His voice trailed off, once again his eyes fell to his body. Naruto looked away to hide his tomato red face.

“It’s nice to finally meet you Naruto, this guy hasn’t shut up about you since he moved universities.” Tenten said, offering her hand. Naruto shook it politely. Sasuke shot her a glare telling her to shut up.

“Not all bad things I hope.” Naruto chuckled.

“Oh believe me, far from it.” Shikamaru added with an entertained grin, obviously enjoying seeing his friend squirm from their conversation.

“Well, it’s nice to meet you too.” Naruto said, starting a polite conversation with the couple as they talked about casual stuff like classes and plans for the future. Sasuke remained quiet. The only confirmation that Naruto received, that he was in fact listening, was when Naruto was telling some silly story and he laughed. Both Tenten and Shikamaru exchanged glances at that event, like it was unusual for him to do so.

“I’m going to go get another drink, anyone want anything?” Shikamaru asked, dragging Tenten with him not at all discreetly.

“Are they a couple?” Naruto asked when it was just him and Sasuke left on this side of the sofa now.

“Yeah, have been since high school.”

“They seem nice.”

“They’re bearable.” Sasuke shrugged sarcastically and made Naruto chuckle.

“Don’t be so cold to your friends.” Naruto teased, shoving him lightly. Sasuke playfully shoved him back, somehow in the motion making himself move closer to Naruto so their legs were now brushing against each other. Naruto couldn’t help but admire how smooth the movement was and burst out laughing once again.

“What’s so funny now?” Sasuke demanded looking confused.

“Oh nothing, nothing at all.” Naruto said and brushed him off. He was still eying Sasuke out of the corner of his eye, finding himself not able to let the dark-haired man out of his vision. He was wearing his hair down for once. It was long and smooth, and fell over his back like silk. Naruto gently reached out, he couldn’t stop himself, and ran his fingers through the soft hair. Sasuke almost leaned into his touch, like he had been waiting for it.

“Your hair is nice, very soft.” He commented.

Sasuke reached up and ran his fingers over Naruto’s spiky hair. “Yours is untamable… I like it.” Naruto ran his tongue over his lower lip unconsciously. They were sitting very close. He could smell Sasuke’s pleasant scent, feel the heavy gaze that was looking at him like he was the only thing in the room, the only person worth paying attention to. Naruto wanted desperately to linger in that deep sense of possessive belonging.

“Excuse me.” Tenten said as she appeared, not reading the mood and moving carefully past them, drinks in both hands, closely followed by Shikamaru. The moment was gone, and Sasuke had fallen back into the soft leather seats, letting out a sigh of disappointment.

“Move your big-ass legs, I can’t get through!” Shikamaru complained, kicking at Sasuke’s shin. Sasuke rolled his eyes but complied. He was very obviously quite annoyed at his two friends for having ruined the mood.

“I wanna dance, do you want to join?” Naruto leaned in and asked in a soft voice. Sasuke’s burning red face turned back to him in surprise. “S-sure.”

The two slid out of the group, not at all discreetly, seeing as the rest of the group was expectantly watching them disappear into the crowd before resuming their conversation. The dance floor was crowded, Naruto reached out and took Sasuke’s hand to guide him through so they wouldn’t separate.

Once Naruto found a small opening he finally let go, even though Sasuke hadn’t wanted him to. Naruto was looking at him teasingly. “I didn’t take you for a dancer.” He said.

“I’m not.”

“Then why did you agree to go?”

“Because you were the one who asked.” He said, like it was obvious. Naruto chuckled lightly and shook his head with a fond smile before starting to sway with the rhythm. Sasuke stood frozen watching his partner like he was an ethereal being.

“It’s not fun if I’m the only one dancing.” Naruto said, grabbing both of Sasuke’s hands, pulling him into the movement. Although Sasuke didn’t like dancing or even knew how to, he felt his body complying, moving under Naruto’s guidance. Feeling Naruto so close, seeing those dimples in his genuine smile suddenly made Sasuke love dancing. He enjoyed whenever the song changed and Naruto was like an open book in his reactions to the chosen song, sometimes he sighed and made complaining motions before falling into some half-assed mocking dance, other times he went wild, screaming at the DJ in appreciation, swirling and twirling around like he was on a high. Sasuke loved all of it. He was so enthralled by his every move, every reaction and every smile he felt he might’ve gone into heaven.

At some point he even thanked the Gods, despite not being religious. Some angel had rammed into Naruto so he was shot into Sasuke’s arms. They both stiffened at the motion, Sasuke didn’t dare ease his hold on the blonde, afraid to let another moment slip by.

Their eyes met, a reciprocated desire spreading through them. Sasuke was holding him tightly, slowly moving one hand from Naruto’s back up to his neck, caressing his cheek. Naruto’s hands clutched around Sasuke’s shirt, clinging to it as if his life depended on it. There were only a few inches of height difference between them, making the perfect angle for them as they closed in. Naruto’s bright eyes looked at him with such passion Sasuke couldn’t stop himself, and he closed the short distance between them. Their lips met shortly, sweetly and gently. A simple kiss, Sasuke didn’t dare do anything more before Naruto approved. The only reason he’d held back this long was because he didn’t want to rush him.

However, Naruto didn’t care much about being gentle or patient. His hands ran up to Sasuke’s neck, forcing their lips to meet once again, attacking him almost. Their teeth clattered, lips and tongue sloppily finding each other. It was messy and wet but so filled with love and unspoken words they both got lost in it. The dance floor seemed to fade away around them. Sasuke groaned under the powerful grip Naruto had around his neck, Naruto moaned as Sasuke’s hands became searching and ran over his body, landing over his butt, giving a firm squeeze. He moved into the possessive grip Sasuke had over him, loving every second. He entangled his hand into Sasuke’s soft hair, yanking it back as he started kissing down his jaw and neck, his tongue teasing Sasuke’s earlobe, sucking it so he moaned loudly, expressing his desire. Naruto moved back to his mouth, running his tongue over Sasuke’s plump lips before biting down hard on his bottom lip, like it was a feast in itself.

“F-fuck.” Sasuke whispered, enjoying the simmering in his whole body at the feeling of Naruto all over him.

“You like that?” Naruto leaned in and whispered seductively, showing a toothy grin. “Hell yeah.” Sasuke complied before stroking his hand over Naruto’s bare backside, making him shiver at the movement.

“Then what took you so long to finally make a proper move?” Naruto asked and cocked his brow at him, his hands hanging loosely over Sasuke’s shoulders. Sasuke blushed and avoided his gaze nervously. “Didn’t want to scare you away.” He mumbled. Naruto huffed, unimpressed. “And here I was, waiting for you to make the first move!” He grumbled under his breath. Sasuke smirked at him, enjoying the conversation.

Suddenly there was another push from someone dancing wildly. Their little magical bubble burst and they were back on the loud and stinky dance floor.

“Would you wanna-…”

“Yes.” Sasuke answered not even letting Naruto finish. He grabbed his hand tightly before leading them out of the masses. “But what about our friends.”

“I’ll text them.” Sasuke said.

“Where are we eve-…”

“My place, fifteen-minute walk from here, ten if we run.” Sasuke answered not even looking back at Naruto as he headed for the wardrobe and got their jackets. Naruto was in a state of joy as he saw Sasuke hurriedly texting his friends and pulling him along like they couldn’t get there fast enough.

“Well, then keep up.” Naruto said, heading into a sprint with a big grin on his mouth, laughing as Sasuke was yelling and gaining on him. “How… are… you… so fast?” He huffed out of breath as he finally caught the sleeve of Naruto’s jacket. “I thought you were eager to get going.” Naruto shrugged, making Sasuke blush. “Anyway, you’re going the wrong way idiot.”

“Oh.” Naruto chuckled. “Sorry.”

Sasuke grabbed his hand tightly, weaving his fingers between Naruto’s, not giving any sign of ever letting go. “Now you can’t run off.” He said and started heading in the right direction, but in a quick walking pace that made Naruto’s dimples stand out as he was all smiles.

Both consumed in thoughts, were at a loss for words, so they didn’t speak as they walked. There was only the sound of their hasty steps and ragged breath. Sasuke finally came to a halt in front of a very tall apartment complex, it looked expensive, way out of Naruto’s league. He was almost glad they hadn’t gone to his, and despite it being an upgrade from the one in Konoha village, it held nothing to Sasuke’s place. Even the music in the elevator sounded rich. Naruto chuckled at the thought, rubbing his thumb over Sasuke’s warm hand.

Sasuke sent him a flaring hot gaze, already undressing him with his eyes. It was clear he was holding back, waiting for the privacy of his apartment before letting go of all self-control. He stopped in front of apartment number 703, fiddling with his keys. Naruto observed him obsessively, his lean figure, his slightly shaky hands that revealed his excitement. It was almost too cute.

Sasuke walked in, holding the door for him. Naruto followed. The door slammed behind him, Sasuke locking him against his broad frame and the door. He was leaning in, a possessiveness in his eyes that made Naruto’s heart scream for more. He was simply staring at him, as if waiting for approval, their faces only a few inches apart, making Naruto unable to look anywhere but the two different colored eyes he adored so.

Naruto leaned in, his lips brushing against Sasuke’s ear before whispering: “Devour me.”

Sasuke groaned longingly before clashing his lips against Naruto’s like it was those two words he’d been waiting to hear. His strong arms locked around Naruto, caging him in like a wild animal, perhaps because Naruto was acting much like one. He eagerly responded to the needy kiss, locking his arms around Sasuke’s neck, jumping up and securing himself like a monkey around his waist. Sasuke’s hand firmly cupped his butt, smiling against the kisses Naruto was giving him. He started moving around, Naruto guessed it was towards the bedroom but wasn’t sure since he was too focused on Sasuke to notice anything else. His thoughts were confirmed as he was thrown almost violently onto a bouncy bed. Sasuke’s eyes met his, and they were the eyes of a hungry beast looking right at his feast. He started unbuttoning his shirt slowly, it was mesmerizing. Naruto took in each motion, each piece of revealed skin. He soaked in the moonlight that lit up Sasuke’s lovely chest, that revealed the tattoos normally hidden under clothes. He took in the size of the bulk in his pants and licked his lips. He started crawling like a cat towards Sasuke, not avoiding his intense gaze as he reached out for his hips, pulling him firmly closer to the bed before loosening the belt and pulling down his pants and underpants in one swoop motion.

He looked for a moment in appreciation before a devious smile appeared on his lips. “My my, how lucky I am.” He mumbled, teasing Sasuke as his fingers lightly tapped the cock in front of his face. Sasuke moaned, his cock twitching for release already. Naruto leaned in, putting his soft lips on the tip of it, kissing it gently while holding the shaft. Then his tongue started running down the cock all the way to the balls. Sasuke’s hand fell onto his hair, wrapping around the wild blonde locks. He smiled cheekily before opening his mouth fully and welcoming the cock inside.

Naruto’s mouth was warm and wet. The precum from Sasuke’s cock had already been released. His eyes rolled back as Naruto took him in further, his throat closing around him. His whole body was simmering, and he was whimpering for release. Then he started moving, first gently, then more daringly, my god was it fantastic. He felt Naruto’s tongue swirl around his throbbing cock, he was almost mad Naruto was so good with his tongue because it’d meant he’d done it with others before him. But that didn’t matter anymore, because Sasuke had already long since decided he would be Naruto’s last.

The tension was building up inside of him, he felt himself press Naruto’s head deeper down. The blonde’s throat pressed down, triggering the pent-up release inside Sasuke’s member, and he gasped at the relief, loosening his grip on Naruto.

Fuuuuck.” He groaned before looking down on Naruto’s wide eyes that was staring him down. My God that was hot. He reluctantly pulled free, licking his tainted lips while eying Sasuke like he was eye-candy. “Are you going to undress me Sasuke?” He asked, laying on his back. Sasuke was over him in seconds, his hand running over Naruto’s clothes, feeling up his body. “Say my name again.” He demanded.

“Sasuke.” Naruto whispered. There was pressure in his pants, Sasuke’s hand was pushing down on top of his penis. “Say it again.” He demanded, kissing him softly.

“S-Sasuke.” He complied, and the pressure added.

Then all of a sudden in one quick movement, he had pulled his pants down and thrown them away completely. His dick was throbbing, eager for Sasuke to touch it, when he found himself being flipped around like it was the easiest thing in the world. He was planted face-down in the pillows, his ass on display. He was about to complain when he felt two big hands spread his cheeks slightly apart and one wet tongue lick right over his hole. He gasped in surprise, clutching his grip on the pillows. Then he felt another lick, a deeper one. He felt himself arching his back unwillingly leaning into the sensation of being eaten up by Sasuke. The tongue was following around his rim, playfully going in from time to time. Naruto was weak to his touch, whimpering already, precum dripping from his cock onto the clean white sheets. Then all of a sudden, the touch disappeared. “Stay.” He heard Sasuke order before he felt a teasing bite on his ass-cheek. He was glad he was laying face down, that way his completely red face and panting wasn’t as obvious. God this was humiliating, lying there with his ass in the air, obeying his command.

Sasuke was fiddling with a drawer and came back. He gave a grunt of satisfaction as he admired the position before fidgeting with a condom and some lube. Naruto shrieked under the cold sensation of the lube, and soon after a finger entered him, and it went in deep, exploring his insides. Then another finger entered, and he squirmed under the touch. “Stay still.” Sasuke said, running his other hand down Naruto’s exposed back. By the third finger Naruto was panting, eager for the real thing. Then in a quick movement Sasuke pulled out his fingers and replaced them with his cock, slamming into Naruto so hard he screamed, and a shiver ran through his body.

“You okay?” Sasuke asked concerned. Naruto sent him a needy look. “J-just move already.” He begged and a wicked grin spread across Sasuke’s face before two hands firmly gripped his waist. Naruto was a mess and moaned at every movement as Sasuke pounded him, hitting the right spot. They clashed together almost violently like they were fighting. It was relentless, yet it was the best sex Naruto had ever had. In the end there were only dry orgasms left and bruises on his skin, still, he felt like he’d gone to heaven. Neither of them cared about the filthy sheets or their sweaty bodies, they both just collapsed on the bed, curled into each other’s arms.

____________

Naruto woke when he felt a shift in the bed. Reluctantly he opened his eyes to see a freshly showered Sasuke with a tray full of breakfast ready beside him. He smiled warmly at Naruto. “Good morning.” He said, full of energy. Naruto felt the opposite, he felt like he’d been run over by a truck or something. He groaned tiredly and rubbed his eyes. Perhaps because he still felt half asleep, he didn’t notice he was naked.

“What time is it?” Naruto asked and stretched before reaching out to grab a piece of bread with cheese. He moaned with pleasure, God he hadn’t even registered how hungry he was until now.

“Ten-thirty.” Sasuke said and got comfortable in bed beside him. He kept sneaking glances at Naruto, which perhaps would’ve bothered him if he was more energized.

“Soooo…” Sasuke started, but never finished.

“What?” Naruto asked, reaching for some adorably sliced pieces of apple. They looked like bunnies. He tugged on his lips, thinking he could get used to this.

“Are we dating now?” Sasuke asked hopefully. Naruto choked on his apple-bunny and looked surprised at him. “Erhm… I mean, do you want to?” Naruto asked, aware his flushed cheeks revealed his true feelings.

“You don’t?” Sasuke asked sadly.

“No! no, I want to, I just… you hadn’t asked, not really at least.”

Sasuke grinned and leaned closer to him, so close it made Naruto embarrassed in fact. “I like you Naruto, I want to date you… is that clear enough for you?” He asked, his breath warm on Naruto’s face. His mouth fell open at the sudden confession. He had always thought he would never date anyone for real, but Sasuke already knew the worst things about him, and yet he still wanted to. Naruto closed the gap between them and placed a gentle kiss on his lips. “I like you too.” He whispered. Sasuke closed the distance again with a more possessive kiss. His hand was wrapped in that sunshine hair, pulling them closer. Naruto’s tongue sought his, gently caressing his mouth, when all of a sudden, he pushed himself off. He looked red-faced and embarrassed as Sasuke stared at him confused. “Did you say it was already ten-thirty!” He burst out, suddenly remembering their earlier conversation.

“Yeah, so?” Sasuke asked, already feeling annoyed at the distance between them. “Oh God!” Naruto burst out and fell down from the bed in a hurry, modestly trying to cover himself up on the way to the bathroom. “I’m late!” He screamed out as he slammed the door between them and turned on the shower. Sasuke fell onto his back and sighed in annoyance.

He watched Naruto frantically moved around the room collecting his things. “Where are you going?” He asked.

“I have training in the dojo today, I totally forgot!”

“Do you want a ride?” He asked, and Naruto almost fell to his knees in gratitude. “Really?” He asked, his blue eyes wide with expectation. “You really are a life savior!” He said and Sasuke had to look away to hide his wild blush.

“N-no big deal.” He stammered.

Naruto was as frantic and chaotic as Sasuke had expected. While trying to hurry up, it took even longer because he kept on forgetting things. However, he didn’t complain, because when it was time for them to rush out of the door he grabbed Sasuke’s hand firmly and dragged him with him.

It wasn’t a long drive to the dojo, but it had saved Naruto a lot of time, so he was thankful for Sasuke’s help. “Thank you so much!” He said and looked at Sasuke. “And I’m sorry for cutting it short, but I’ll text you when I’m done, is that okay?” He asked with a concerned look. Sasuke let out a small laugh and nodded. “Have fun.” He said. Naruto was one big smile and was on his way out when he turned back like he’d forgotten something, and in a hurry, placed a small peck on Sasuke’s cheek. “I like you… like a lot.” He said embarrassed like a little kid, then he hurried out, not awaiting a response. Sasuke sat for a while and watched him run into the dojo, a pleased smile found its way onto his face, and he sighed in relief.

He was about to back out the car when he noticed a small bag on the floor of the car, it had been kind of hidden under the seat. Naruto had probably not seen it since he was in such a hurry, and since Sasuke didn’t really have anything going on that day, he might as well go in and drop it off.

It was a big dojo, not that Sasuke had ever been in one before, but it looked big. There was even some sort of reception where a young woman sat with a lollipop in her mouth, playing a videogame.

“What can I help you with?” She asked in a monotone voice, still not looking up from her game.

“Erhm, someone I know just went in to train, but he forgot his personal bag, can I give it to you orrrrr?”

She sighed annoyed like it was the greatest burden in the world, having to do your job. “Just walk on in and give it to him yourself, down the hall to the right.” She said and waved him off like he was a nuisance. Sasuke followed her instructions, but he didn’t want to go in and disturb. So he just stood outside the door, when two young girls passed him by and walked up some stairs before going in. his eyes followed them and landed on the sign next to the door. Audience. It said. He decided since he was already there he might as well take a look. He was truthfully quite curious as to Naruto’s skills. They’d talked about it briefly, but it seemed more like a hobby or a way to let loose for him than anything else, but still. He entered the audience stands and looked bewildered around. There were surprisingly many people just looking at the training downstairs. He found a seat somewhere to the side, but in the front so he had a clear view. He leaned closer to the railing separating the audience with the big hall where they were now doing warm-up kicks. He quickly found Naruto, especially since he never really blended in anywhere with his wild hair, but even less so here. His kicks were very high, higher than most of the others. He looked like he was in a zone, and had no eyes for anything else, it was much different than the naturally skittish blonde that had a short attention span.

Sasuke sat there and stared intently for a while, when the girls he’d seen earlier, that were seated not far from him, started giggling and whispering. He overheard part of their conversation as they talked about how today they would do training matches with each other like it was real fights. That would explain why there were so many onlookers. Still, it unnerved Sasuke when he realized how many were looking at his blonde. There were plenty of students, couldn’t they watch some of the others? He sighed in despair when he realized he was getting jealous over nothing.

Naruto had mentioned he practiced several different self-defense sports, but this looked to be… karate? He wasn’t sure, Sasuke had never known anyone that practiced any of it, nor had he been interested in it before now. However, when he looked at Naruto in his white uniform, he wished he’d learned what kind of rules there were and what everything meant.

When they began practice fights Naruto was like a star, he received plenty of compliments from his teacher and enough jealous glares from other students, that Sasuke could tell Naruto was in a league of his own. He looked majestic when fighting even. Sasuke had always known that Naruto wasn’t without muscles, but it was rarely put to use, so to see him swing his opponents around and go crazy with combinations of kicks and hits was breathtaking. He truly looked otherworldly.

Sasuke just sat there and stared at him in awe during the entire lesson, completely forgetting why he’d gone there to begin with and what time it was when they finished.

“Hey, who’s that crazy jerk waving at you like a madman?” Rock Lee asked Naruto as they’d finished today’s lesson and were covered in sweat. “Huh?” Naruto asked confused and looked up towards the stands. His eyes widened in surprise as he saw none other than Sasuke. What on earth was he doing here? And how long had he even been there? He hesitantly walked towards him in the corner of the big room.

“What are you doing here Sasuke?” He asked embarrassed and rubbed his neck for any kind of comfort. God, this was embarrassing, he had messed up a ton today, because he was still feeling iffy from the alcohol last night, and now of all days Sasuke was there. Bad luck, he thought to himself.

“You forgot your bag.” He said and waved it around. “And you looked so cool, oh my God! Why didn’t you tell me you were this good? Now I need to find something to impress you with!” He burst out frustrated and started muttering to himself about which of his own qualities he could show off, but in the end he always thought Naruto’s fighting was way cooler.

Naruto could barely contain his laughter, why was this idiot so cute? His body was moving before his brain followed, and without thinking anything through he started sprinting, setting off from the ground and pushing off the wall beside the audience stands, he gripped onto the railing in front of Sasuke, having just climbed three meters through the air, Sasuke was beside himself with joy at his lovers coolness, but he didn’t have time to react since Naruto gripped his collar and dragged him in for a short kiss before letting go and landing perfectly back on the ground like it was no big deal. Sasuke that had been stopped mid-rant by the action looked stunned at Naruto, his face the color of a tomato. “I’ll just go change, wait for me, I won’t be long.” He said and grinned before disappearing into the changing rooms with the other students.

Sasuke heard whispers and girls giggling with joy at the gesture he’d just received, but none of it fazed him, because he could only think about the blonde-haired menace that was flipping his world up-side-down by the minute. He could not wait for what a future being with Naruto would bring, and at that moment he felt only happiness. He would never, never, let that ray of sunshine go. He knew he had found something special, so he would cling to it like it was his very soul and reason for existing.

The End.
