Chapter Text
The mission wasn’t supposed to go like this. Now, Carmen, Shadowsan, Zach and Ivy were trapped in another world with no contact with Player and no way to get back. They were on a small island, a massive waterfall spanning the whole of one side, with a white and teal vertical structure leading up it. Leading from it, a port stretched out, and across the body of water, was desert-appearing landscape. Thankfully, where they fell hid them from the passers-by, although there were barely any people there to begin with.
“Alright crew, should we have a look around?” Carmen asked?
“That would seem to be the best option, though we should exercise caution.” Shadowsan replied.
Team Red made their way up the docks to the towering structure, coming to the realization that it was an elevator. They made their way up, and sat at the benches near what appears to be another port, until a watercraft came up, a small bi-pedal creature with feelers at the helm.
“Ready to board the aquabus?” It asked.
“Oh cool!!! Such a strange creature!! What are you??” Zach exclaimed, excited by the new creature in front of them.
Ivy, in response, elbowed him. “Sorry about him, we’ve never seen anything like you before. He’s an idiot.”
“Hey, it’s alright, I’m Aeval, and I’m a melusine. You must be new to Fontaine. I can tell you all about it on the aquabus on the way to the Court of Fontaine. Though I’m quite surprised you decided to go through the desert though.”
“Oh don’t worry, we - ow!”
“We’re experienced in traversing the desert, don’t mind my brother.”
“Alright then… shall we get going?”
“That would be great, thanks Aeval. I’m Carmen, by the way. The siblings are Zach and Ivy, and this is Shadowsan.”
The group get onto the aqua bus, where Aeval tells them all about Fontaine, the culture, the people, and even of an event that occurred not too long ago with a prophecy and a famous traveller. They also learned more about the melusines themselves, being native to Fontaine and living long lives, seeing the world differently, and how they are incorporated into the Marachaussee Phantom, an elite police investigation force. Eventually, they arrive at the main waterway hub, and they say their goodbyes as they head down the elevator to the main city. Comprised of white marble with teal accents, and high aqueducts arching above the city, and a fantastical floating machine in the centre of the square as they leave the station.
The group wander down streets, passing people dressed in styles similar to the Victorian era, contrasted by the mechanical guards that patrol the streets. Along one of these streets, two people catch their attention. Both are dressed in similar attire, with white undershirts and white gloves accented by black. The young man had on black suspenders with a small cape and a hat, accented with red, whereas his companion next to him and on a dress overtop, and a large teal bow, her outfit also accented with teal. She, however, seemed to have cat ears and a tail, although it seemed as though this was not worth warranting attention, as the audience around them instead focused on the magic tricks being performed. The group moved to join the crowd. The young man cast a quick glance towards the strangely attired newcomers, but just as quickly turned his attention back to the crowd. Eventually, the show finished, and the crowd began to disperse, but just as Carmen and the rest were about to go, the young man calls out.
“Hey, lady in the red hat, why don’t you stick around for a bit.”
Carmen hesitates, not knowing who this man is or what his intentions are. However, eventually she turns to join him and the young lady beside him.
“You’re not from Fontaine, are you? Never seen anyone were such bold clothes before.”
“Besides yourself?”
“Hey now, it’s all part of being a magician. Besides, I’m always happy to meet new people. I’m Lyney, and this is my sister Lynette. May I ask for your names?”
“Carmen, Carmen Sandiego. And this is my crew, Zack, Ivy, and Shadowsan.” she said while gesturing to each in turn.
“A pleasure to meet you, miss Sandiego, and may I say that you have a lovely -“ with a flick of his wrist Lyney now has a bright red fedora. “ - hat.”
“I do believe yours is also quite lovely.” Carmen replies whilst spinning Lyney’s hat upon her own head.
“Hey now, I do believe the sleight of hand is my thing.”
Zack and Ivy share bewildered glances at each other at this exchange, their boss now face to face with someone much like herself, before making eye contact with Lynette, who approaches the siblings.
“Perhaps we should get going. I’m sure Father would be very interested in meeting you.”
“Oh, we’re going to your house??!!?”
“Bro, be polite.”
“Sorry Ivy, it’s just very cool they want to invite us over.”
“We appreciate the generosity in inviting us, but we wouldn’t want to impose upon you and your family.” Shadowsan adds in, finally revealing himself from whatever shadow he had hid himself in.
“You wouldn’t be imposing. Besides, Father would like to meet you, I’m sure you would get along.”
“You would know the way better, so if we are to start heading out, you should lead the way.”
“Yes of course. Come on Lyney, let’s bring our guests back.”
And with that, with Lyney and Lynette in the lead, the group wander down the white streets lined in teal, the sun slowly setting behind them.
