Haunted by the Past

Summary:

Despite his death, Malak continues to haunt Revan and Bastila.

Chapter Text

Bastila woke up, jerking upwards with a scream. The room was dark as sweat came down her head and breathing was rapid. She was desperate trying not to cry.

“Bas?” a gentle and calm voice came from her left side.

When she turned, she saw Revan, awakened from her screaming with concern in his eyes. At that moment, tears poured out of her eyes as she crashed herself into Revan’s bare chest. He gently kept one hand on her back while the other went to the top of her head as she cried.

“Sh, Sh, sh,” Revan spoke softly gently stoked his wife’s hair, “it’s okay. It’s okay.”

Revan closed his eyes and cradled Bastila close to him, assuring her she was safe. In a short while, her crying end as she melted into Revan’s touch, nuzzling into him. When he noticed the change, Revan closed his eyes for a moment. Once he opened his eyes, he saw the apparition once again. Malak, his own brother, was watching on, a smile of pure evil would’ve formed on him if not for his prosthetic jaw. Revan’s comforting demeanor changed as his face furrowed and his gentle hold on Bastila tightened. She suddenly noticed the change in his hold onto her.

“What is it?” She looked up at him, worried by his sudden change. Revan looked at her and gave her a comforting smile.

“It’s nothing,” Revan quietly spoke. When he looked back up, Malak was gone, “do you want to talk about it?”

“Not this time,” Bastila spoke, her head resting on Revan’s chest, “just hold me for the rest of the night.”

Revan smiled and resumed petting her hair, “that I can do.”

They remained like that for the rest of the night, with Bastila falling asleep in Revan’s arms as he placed his chin onto her head and continued to gently stoke her hair.

They were awakened by the cries of baby Vaner at the first light of dawn.

“I have to get him,” said Revan.

“Can’t you stay for a few more minutes?” Bastila asked.

Revan chuckled as he released his grip on Bastila and got up to check on his son.

“Aw, he’s worried about his poor, dear mother,” he said in a teasing voice.

“Oh, ha ha” Bastila sarcastically laughed, “just bring him and yourself to me.”

Revan entered the room with Vaner nestled in his arms and got back into bed. and cradled his son.

“See, she’s alright,” Revan gently spoke to Vaner, “your mother just had a slight scare. She does that a lot.”

Bastila rolled her eyes and hugged Revan, resting her head on his shoulder.

“Now you have two to comfort.” She whispered.

Revan smiled, “I’m good at doing that.”

Revan jerked away, sweat dripping down his forehead. He looked frantically, desperately, his breath frantic and out of control. He breaths a sigh of relief as he spots Bastila next to her, sound asleep. Running his hands through his long hair, Revan got out of bed and headed to the washroom. He splashed water onto his face and attempted to control his breathing.

“You can’t escape what you did,” a menacing voice spoke to him from behind.

Revan lifted his head slowly as his face furrowed. Behind him, the apparition of Malek stood, his arms crossed in a menacing, yet proud manner.

“You have to live with it,” Malak taunted, “all the worlds you conquered, the people you tortured and murdered, all the suffering you caused,” Malak chuckled, “they’re all gone, thanks to you.”

“Go to hell, Malak.” Revan growled.

Malak laughed at his brother, “Hell? Oh, I promise you, my brother, you’re the one living in Hell.”

Revan slowly turned his head to look at Malak. He was just as he was when Revan last saw him, in his red attire and black cape, along with the prosthetic lower jaw, a result of an ambush by the Jedi, with the strike to him being delivered by Bastila herself.

“Having to live with the constant reminder of your failure, of your fall to the dark side, all the endless screams of the dead caused by our hands, that is Hell.” Malak chuckled evilly, “it’s only natural that we are so similar.”

“I’m nothing like you, Malak” Revan growled at his brother.

“Oh, how wrong you are, my brother,” Malak mocked Revan, “we both strive for greater power, to wield the force and become stronger than anyone else could imagine.”

Reven’s eyes remained focus on Malak, “and yet, you used that power to conquer worlds, and to bring down the republic, while I used it to stop you.”

“Haven’t you forgetting that you were the one who initially conquered those words?” Malak began to circle Revan, “it was you who created the Sith empire, you who led countless Jedi and soldiers to the dark side, and who had the galaxy by its throat.”

“I know what I did,” Revan spoke, “I have to live with it for the rest of my life. But I’ve found redemption where you couldn’t. You were so blinded by the dark side, you committed the ultimate act of treason,” Malak looked at Revan with a look that was daring him to say it, “you betrayed me, my own brother.”

Devilish pride oozed out of Malak, “And yet, had I not been for my betrayal, you would still be ruling over the galaxy,” Malak laughed, “And when you had the chance to rule over the galaxy once again, more powerful than ever before, what did you do? You destroyed your own creation.” Malak spoke with disgust, “and here you are now, barred from teaching others, banished from the Jedi council, and stuck being a husband and a father.”

“I chose that life,” Revan retorted, “and it’s the best decision I ever made.”

“Revan?” a soft and quiet voice was heard from behind.

When he turned around, he say Bastila, most likely awakened from her sleep by his ramblings, with a concerned look on her face as she slowly approached him.

“What’s wrong?”

He turned his head in Malak’s direction, only to see nothing once again. He then turned to Bastila and gave her a soft smile.

“It’s nothing,” he hugged her and kissed her forehead, “just another nightmare.”

“Who were you talking to?” She asked.

Before he could answer, the sounds of crying could be heard across the room. Vaner had woken up again.

“I’ll get him.” Bastila said as she removed herself from Revan’s embrace.

She went into the room and pick up Vaner. When she returned with him in her arms, Vaner made motions with his arms towards Revan.

“I think he wants his father,”

Bastila handed Vaner to Revan as the baby wrapped his arms around his father neck and rested his head on Revan’s cheek. Revan gently held his son close to him.

“Aw, he’s worried about you,” Bastila said in a mockful, yet sweet and playful voice.

“I guess he knows when mom and dad have nightmares, he has to help them.” Revan replied.

Bastila smiled and rested her head into Revan’s chest, “you’re not Malak.”

Revan looked at his wife, “what was that?”

“You were talking to him again, weren’t you?” Bastila softy spoke, “You keep seeing him. I know it. You have to know you’re nothing like him.”

Bastila looked up and brushes a piece of hair out of Revan’s face. “You have been redeemed. You’re the man I love. I know the real you; the great, kind, caring man that you are, not the dark lord of the sith.”

Revan smiled at her, “thank you.”

Bastila rested her head on Revan’s chest and closed her eyes. Here were the two most important people in his life now in his arms: his son and is wife. Whatever the future had in store for him, he knows he can overcome it.

Chapter 3

Summary:

This is a summary of my version of the events that happened

Chapter Text

Revan thought he had gained redemption. He remembered how his journey began. An attack on his ship as a Jedi strike force led by Bastilla entered the bridge fighting their way through Sith soldiers and dark Jedi. Bastilla had engaged Revan in a duel after he had quickly killed her companions, but before he could finish her, the republic capitol ship the Endar Spire fired upon Revan’s ship, knocking both him and Bastila out and sending them crashing towards the planet Taris.

When he had awakened, Revan was cuffed to the ground, his mask removed from his scarred face, and even worse, his connection to the force completely severed. He had figured that Bastila would despise him, the former Jedi hero of the republic who turned to the dark side and became a dark lord of the sith. Instead, she sensed remorse in him, a tragic and tortured soul corrupted by evil and confused about his path. She even healed his facial scares, a product of the torture he had gone through. Bonding with the fallen warrior, Bastila tried to convince Revan to return to the light, believing he could be saved. Revan thought he was beyond redemption, but the brutality of the Sith and Malak’s attack on Deralia, Revan’s home planet, convinced him that Malak had to be stopped.

Escaping Taris and fleeing to Dantooine, the Jedi Council was very reluctant to accept Revan’s help, but believing he was only one who could stop Malak, they agreed to have travel the galaxy to find a way to reconnect with the force, under the strict watch of Bastila.

During the journey, Revan and his party were caught by the Sith and brought to the Leviathan, Malak’s capitol ship. They attempted to escape, but their efforts were thwarted by Malak. Captured and imprisoned on the ship, it was here that Malak revealed to Revan the truth: the republic didn’t attack his ship that led to his near death. No, it was Malak, his own brother, who fired upon Revan’s ship, in an attempt to dispatch him and rule over the galaxy. Enraged by the discovery of his betrayal, Revan dueled Malak, but because he hadn’t fully regained his power, he was easily beaten by his brother. It was Bastila’s intervention that saved Revan that day, and she became Malak’s prisoner while Revan and the rest of his party escaped.

The next time Revan saw Bastila was on the planet Rehon. Revan had entered the main temple to disable the disruptor field generator that was powering the shield generator on the star forge. When he encounter her, she had been turned by Malak, and offered Revan the chance to join her to destroy Malak and rule the galaxy together. But Revan refused, knowing the horrors of the Sith, and tried to convince to return to the light but to no avail. Although Revan had successfully disabled the shield generator, Bastila managed to escape, but left Revan with a parting gift in an attempt to reminder of who he once was: his mask. She had kept it the whole time in her possession.

When Revan (now more powerful than he had been before, re-masked in his redemption robes and purple blade lightsaber) confronted Bastila on the Star forge, he was able to defeat her, but refused to kill her and professed his love for her. Finally hearing those words, Bastila reciprocated the love she had for him, returning to the light and vowing to fight off enemy soldiers while Revan dealt with Malak.

At the end of a fantastic duel, Revan delivered a fatal blow towards Malak, and destroyed the Star Forge in the process. He returned to the Endar Spice and proposed to Bastila, wanting to spend the rest of his life with her. Despite knowing the Jedi council would oppose such an act, she agreed to marry him. When Revan informed the Jedi that he planned to marry Bastila, Master Zhar was the only member who didn’t oppose it. Despite the council’s initial objections, they ultimately came to an agreement with the redeemed hero: Revan and Bastila would be allowed to marry and would each be granted the rank of master. However, they were forbidden from sitting on the Jedi council nor for teaching Revan’s new philosophy on the force.

Revan and Bastila married and had Vaner together, raising him and teaching him the ways of the force until Meetra showed up 5 years later and the council asked Revan and Bastila to train her (following the events of KOTOR 2 but with Revan). Following those events, Revan returned to Bastila and continued to raise Vaner until Vitiate showed up and ruined everything.
