Chapter Text
Tongrak has never been disoriented in his whole life, he was so used to people throwing soft stuff to get his attention; he’s used to it, kinds of stuff being thrown into him but never a lot of people surrounding him, crowding him. It's as if Tongrak was something interesting for them.
To this day, he still hasn’t figured out if the pups in his old pack are being mean to him or if they asked for him to play with them. Tongrak hopes it’s the latter, as his old pack treated him kindly despite his circumstances.
For his old pack, this was something normal, they were used to it.
He was considered normal.
But for this new pack, not so much.
With many people surrounding him, Tongrak doesn’t know where or whom to look at.
Too many mouths moving.
He tries to look at everyone, making sense of what they are saying to him.
Tongrak reads a few lips;
What pack did you come from?
Oh, you’re pretty!
Do you prefer betas or alphas?
Tongrak considered himself to be more of the type of person who preferred one-on-one rather than people crowding him like this, only because of his impairment.
He was deaf.
Every word that people were saying to him went unheard, he just stared, trying to understand the words that were being thrown at him from their mouths.
I shouldn’t be struggling like this if his old pack did merge with this new pack he was in.
He sulks.
Tongrak took a deep breath and set his bags on the ground before bringing his hands together.
Hello, I am Tongrak. I’m glad to join you,
he signs. Smiling a bit although he feels uncomfortable with the amount of people staring at him.
And Tongrak expected the reaction from his new packmates. They all went still and quiet, their eyes bouncing from Tongrak’s face to his hands and some of them frowned.
He saw a beta do an ‘okay’ symbol, Tongrak knows the beta probably didn’t understand what he signed but at least they knew what he did or now they know that Tongrak can’t hear. Some of them looked awkward but not put off. Thank god they don’t see me as something weird.
An arm looped around the back of his neck, a subtle way for his old pack and friends to know they were close to him, he was startled but when he smelled the smell of freshly cut grasses, he relaxed.
“This is Tongrak” he could feel the rumbles of Connor against his back, his friend squeezing his shoulder reassuringly. To be honest, he doesn’t need Connor’s help but sometimes he needs someone to translate for him.
Tongrak can try to speak but he shouldn’t embarrass himself on the first day he’s in the pack. Some of the people are already looking at him with shock and it makes him uncomfortable. He can gradually let the new pack that he can speak.
Hopefully, they don’t hate my voice.
He looked at Connor to read his lips and understand what his friend was saying to their new packmates.
“He cannot hear you, but he’ll be a very wonderful addition to the neighbourhood, so please take care of him.”
“Tongrak can be sassy and brutal if he wants.”
In response to his friends, he hissed and shoved Connor off him. He scrunched his face, irritated with his friend but also embarrassed.
His friend started to laugh and rush to catch up with him, suddenly looking like a kicked puppy.
He’s been friends with Connor but he never understands how can that savage alpha look so harmless.
He hates that his family and friends think that he is someone who needs heavy guarding and as if people finding him as someone disabled will view him as weak.
He’s been alive and well and can fend off for himself. Thank you so much.
Tongrak realized that he was walking aimlessly as he didn’t know where he should bring his stuff or where his new place was going to be. Rough hands grabbed his shoulder then an unfamiliar face came into his view. Tongrak blinked in surprise.
“Your place is this way.”
Tongrak looked at him with confusion, he didn’t catch what the younger omega said. He furrowed his eyebrows and signed what?
Tongrak was surprised to see the other omega laugh under his breath with a bit of shock on his face.
My name is Khom, the younger omega signed, making Tongrak stare at the said omega, I said, I’m taking you to your place, Tongrak.
Tongrak nodded, he carried his back and dragged his luggage, he was a bit taken back that someone in his new pack knew how to sign and he knew Tongrak’s sign name.
His old pack members knew how to read and sign because of him. He was with his old pack since he was a pup. It was normal that they knew how to sign or read signs. He remembers he used to cry to the older pack members, frustrated, as he also wanted to hear like the other pups.
As he grew older he realized it was okay to be a little different from the others.
Khom led him towards the end of the street, Tongrak was unfamiliar with this kind of place, the old pack that he was in was closer to the mountains, far away from the modern civilization. Suddenly he was in a town... Where they looked like normal humans. Tongrak was used to huts but the thing in front of him was a house. A human house.
It dawned on him how large the changes he needs to adjust.
His old pack leader decided to merge them down here due to his old age and dwindling supplies, he didn’t expect that the new pack that he would be joining would be this
big.
It was nice though. They were still near the mountains but not exactly at the foot of the mountain. He’s excited to walk around and explore the new place.
What he found different between this pack to his old one was the amount of human things they had. They are wolves but the town was just like any other towns he visited as a pup. They had cars, trucks and one particular house that was large and a lot of people were walking in and out of it.
The head alpha’s house
Khom signed and Tongrak nodded.
Khom gently steered him into a small house, reaching over to turn on the light before moving in to stand directly in front of him. He thinks the move was very thoughtful.
This is your place,
the younger omega signed,
you can do what you want, the homes by the hill are for unmated omegas, so you may get some roommates but for now. This little house is yours.
Tongrak nodded to show he understood what the younger omega had signed.
How did you know sign?
Khom smiled. “I learned it in college, although I should have taken more classes if I knew this would be handy. I didn’t know you were coming today, Connor didn’t even tell me that you were uhm, deaf.” Khom scratched his nape. “Nonetheless, welcome to the pack!”
Tongrak smiled at Khom, a little grateful that he didn’t have to explain his impairment to him or anyone in the pack. He’d prefer to let the people know about him rather than think that he was ignoring them.
You are good.
Khom smiled gently at him, aren’t you sweet? I hope you make many friends. Everyone here is friendly.
Tongrak smiled because he knew what khom meant but instead of signing friendly by moving his hands up and away from the face in fluttery movements, he dragged it down instead and accidentally signed sad. He corrected Khom with a small smile, laughing softly as Khom turned red.
Tongrak shook his head, laughing and signing it’s okay, it’s fine. Still, the other omega looked embarrassed and Tongrak's body shook with giggles. Khom directed him to the door of his small house. “Have a good night, Sleep well Rak,” he said, not wanting to embarrass himself again with the wrong signs. Tongrak’s urge to smother the younger omega due to his cuteness almost made him jump at the poor omega.
Tongrak concluded his new pack wasn’t so bad.
He got a home, it was larger compared to his hut back in the forest. On the way here, Tongrak had been awestruck at human things- his two friends Vie and Connor used to go to the city often and they would tell Tongrak what they had seen and in turn Tongrak wrote it as if it was his own experiences on his unpublished books.
Tongrak knows he has so much to adapt to now. Houses, cars, humans. And yet, he was willing to learn a lot if that meant he got to experience so many new things.

“You’re late, again.”
In response the alpha smiled lopsided, grabbing an apple off the table. “Good morning!”
“It’s two in the afternoon, Mahasamut.” Type sighed and leaned over to the table, grabbing the bridge of his nose. “How the hell do you want me to tell your pack, yeah, you can meet the head alpha, let me just check if he came back from the ocean. -
oh sorry, he’s been there for half a day doing I don’t know what.
”
“Sounds like you have your answer already.” Mahasamut chuckled, moving out of the way when his friend raised a banana off the dining table threatening to throw it at Mahasamut.
“Chill! I’m moving, I’m gonna go and check the pack!”
“You better.” the omega hissed, “you got a bunch of shit to do mister, who am I if I don’t keep track of your ass?” Mahasamut smiled cheekily at his friend. “Find yourself an alpha, if you don’t want to deal with me.” he sent a wink to his friend and started backtracking out of the doorway. “You’d be the best second in charge ever only if you ignored my shortcomings and didn’t hit me so much!”
“You’re confusing me for Khom you little shit, I only hit you if you’re out of the line, which by the way is all the time.”
“You just admitted to abusing me!”
There was a loud growl and Mahasamut began to run out of the door of his house in a fit of laughter, taking a bite of his apple and twisting to send Type a wave as the other stood in the doorway. The omega’s face turned into utter irritation and Mahasamut just made a childish face and stuck his tongue out.
He spun around to keep walking to the other side of the street, they had a house where the pups stayed and it was always where Mahasamut needed to be in the morning; he heard a brief, “Wait Mut! There’s something I need to tell you about our new mem-” being Mahasamut, he just walked away because he liked to ignore his friend until he went on some kind of rampage.
He calls it a small person rampage and he liked seeing it with his friends, Type and Khom, particularly- those two couldn’t hold the rage in their little bodies. He snickers at his thoughts, and if his two friends know about that, he might not see the new light of the day.
“Afternoon Alpha!”
“Alpha, good afternoon!”
He waved and smiled politely, going about his morning routine, well afternoon routine, when he felt something was a little off.
He hadn’t been told they would be getting any omegas. But, then again, he hardly listen to Khom ass he reads off the list of names and statuses to him a week ago, asking him to approve them.
Just the thought of being able to expand his pack, make it livelier was enough to make Mahasamut put a stamp on it.
Okay so
maybe
he was a little immature but his cousin who was supposed to be next in line was a beta and he thought that it would be something embarrassing if the head of the pack was a beta, so he asked Mahasamut to take over as the pack’s alpha.
On paper, he was the Head alpha but in reality, it's his omega friends who keep the whole pack afloat, they kept the land being bought by others and fought for their pack's rights. Occasionally some humans try to steal their lands. They are half wolves and so they need the acres of land for their instincts to let off.
“Hey!” Mahasamut began to chuckle and pulled Tharn into his side as he stared towards the omega house, it seemed that they were both headed to the same place. “Good morning!”
“You going to sniff some omegas?” Tharn teased and if Mahasamut didn’t know that Tharn was eyeing Type he would have taken it against him on behalf of the omegas they were taking care of.
“I’m on my morning checking up on them.” Mahasamut snickered and smacked his arms. “Don’t let Type hear you, he’d have your head.”
Tharn rolled his eyes and laughed, “No, type has actually been saying since last night that there’s been a bunch of talk about the new omega. Apparently, he’s really cute or something. Don’t know” Tharn shrugged.
Mahasamut’s brows raised with interest. “Yeah? Cute like…??”
“Cute like people are saying head alpha might want a look, that kind of cute. Tsk, give other alphas a shot, man.”
“Okay. He’s that interesting, huh?” Mahasamut murmured, completely ignoring the teasing of the other alpha, “Cool, I’ll go check up on the omega.” He said, his pace getting faster as he walked towards the houses by the hill, “See you later!”
Tharn’s eyes widened, trying to catch up. “Wait, Mut! Wait, you should-”
He hummed under his breath and went tunnel-visioned on the home of unmated omegas. His vision locked on the house where the new omega is staying.
To look less of a creep and a little kinder, he stooped by the wildflowers that were growing on the side of the street. He had a good feeling about this one.
Mahasamut was a little too old to be mateless, and as a Head alpha, he should have one already, but being twenty-three and a hopeless romantic. It’s one of the prices he needs to pay. His friends had all found their true mates, and at every bonfire, he had the urge to just go to the seaside instead of being reminded that he still hadn’t found his.
Mahasamut can mate with anyone he chooses, but he’s holding out to find his true mate, and he’s determined not to accept anyone unless it is his true mate. It did suck though, it was lonely and hard but it's all on him,
“Hello?” he knocked on the door, smiling in what he hoped was a handsome way, and he tucked his hair behind his ear. “Hello? Anyone?”
He was met with silence, but he could hear some rustling and shuffling inside, so Mahasamut frowned, knocking a little louder. “Good afternoon, I'm the head alpha, and I wanted to welcome you.”
Again
silence.
He felt a little put off since it seemed like everybody had met this new omega but him, and maybe he was sulky over being ignored. He carefully turned the knob of the door and cleared his throat very loud. “Hello? My name is Mahasamut!”
He heard a sound of water swishing around, and there was a loud noise that followed, as if something had been dropped. There was a soft whine, and Mahasamut felt uneasy, and he just wanted to run to the omega’s side even though it wasn’t even a whine of distress or pain.
Blame his alpha side, but he couldn't help himself and pushed the door open, a lone flower in his hand, and concern starting to paint his face as he stepped inside the small house. “Hello, my name is Ma-”
Mahasamut Froze. The omega in front of him froze as well.
Water continued slushing around the omega's hands, and Mahasamut’s eyes dropped down to look over his slender, nearly nude body.
The omega was clutching a ceramic plate and looked to be just out of the shower in only a pair of underwear while washing dishes, water rolling off his milky white skin, his honey-coloured eyes looked straight at Mahasamut. Mahasamut felt his jaw drop and felt his body overcome with this searing need to be close to the omega and talk to them.
But before he could take a step closer, the omega shrieked in surprise, the plate dropping into the sink with a shatter. Mahasamut winced at it. He realised how terrible this looked.
He just walked in on his true mate like a total creep. Fuck.
“Wait! No, no! I’m sorry!”
The omega grabbed anything that was near him and threw it across the room, directed at Mahasamut.
“No, wait, I’m sorry! Hey!” He screamed, shaking the little flower in his hands, and offering it to the omega. “For you! Here! Here!”
The omega didn’t stop for even a second, shrieking at the top of his lungs and throwing everything he could grab, hiding his body behind the cabinets.
“I’m sorry I’m going! Look, I’m leaving!” Mahasamut yelped as he practically ran out of the house. He had never been so scared by an omega in his life, but he did deserve to have those things thrown at his face for being a creep.
He ran out, breathing hard, slamming the door of the house and leaning against it with a huff, clutching his head as he slid down with a pained groan.
He just ruined everything with his true mate, didn’t he? God, why did he decide to be stupid today?
Mahasamut groaned again, he looked up when he heard footsteps. Sighing as he was faced with a wide-eyed omega holding a clothing basket in his hand.
“What did you do now, dumbo?” Khom asked. Snickering at his friend.
Mahasamut whined harder and more pitifully, “Khom, this is a serious matter. I seriously just fucked things up with my true mate!”
“Tongrak?” the omega’s eyes got even wider if possible, filled with curiosity that Mahasamut finds irritating as time passes by. “Tongrak is your true mate?” he said plainly and he laughed. “He’s real cute.”
“Yes!” Mahasamut says. “Now, please tell me how to fix this with him!”
“Well,” Khom starts. Mahasamut sees how his friend has a teasing smile. “You can start by maybe not walking in on a deaf omega, that’s the first and secondly, maybe change out of whatever your outfit is... Is this your diving suit, and you just threw on a shirt? Did you even shower off the sand out of your hair?
Mahasamut kicked his legs like a child throwing a tantrum, “You’re just taking this time to roast me, not helpful at all, Khom!”
“And what if I do?”
“Seriously Khom, I need help courting him, especially now… fuck .” the alpha cut himself when he heard his friend cackled and cooed at him like how he would at his pet.
Mahasamut sank further into the dirt if it was humanly possible. “Fuck my life.”
“For the record, I think Tongrak is going to have a harder time with you than you with him. Suck it up, stupid and go find a book on sign language.”
To summarize in shorter words; Mahasamut was fucked.
