The king's Daughter

Summary:

This is basically Epic the musical but with Odysseus and Penelope's daughter.

Chapter 1: Info on Elena

Chapter Text

Hello all, here's just info on Elena and me explaining the timeline with this story. Considering Odysseus is away from his home for twenty years in the musical, I decided that the Trojan war didn't start for at least four years as Elena is four years younger than Telemachus. They know what they're father looks like but with how young they both were they still don't remember much about him. So yeah there's a short explanation with the timeline of this.

Elena facts/info

-16 years old, younger sister of Telemachus

-Loves her family dearly and is very supportive of her brother wanting to get stronger

- While Odysseus was away for twenty years she tried her best to stay strong hoping one day her father would come home.

- Likes to give kisses to Telemachus to cheer him up.

- She has trained herself in sword fighting

- Consider just as beautiful as her mother among the 108 suitors

Songs I'll be doing for this story

- Keep your friends close

- suffering

- Legendary

- Hold them down

- Odysseus

- I can't help but wonder

If you would like to suggest a song for me to do, feel free to comment ^^

Chapter Text

Odysseus hasn't slept in nine days protecting the back of wind from being opened by his men. He leaned against the rim of the boat as Ithaca was just in sight. “For nine days, I've stayed wide awake
Trying to make it home with no storm or tidal wave I remain unopposed, the bag is still closed.” He says to himself his eyes starting to close on their own. An image of Penelope appears in front of him smiling, holding her arms out to embrace her love.

“And I'm getting closer to you”

Penelope

“I can't wait to make some new memories” Two more images appear, one face blurred while the other showed the face of his son.

Telemachus, Elena

“Time for me to be the father I never was” Holding his arms out as his children come to him wrapping their arms around him in a hug.

“Just keep your eyes open” the three sing in unison

“Why are my eyes and my heart and my soul so heavy?” Odysseus questions

“Just keep your eyes open” Telemachus and Elena sing, letting go of their father and going back over to their mother.

“I keep on trying to embrace you all
Why won't you let me?” concern in Odysseus’s eyes trying to reach out to them all.

“Just keep your eyes open” The three sing in unison again

“So much has changed but I'm the same
Yes I'm the same”

“Just keep your eyes open”

Keep your eyes open

“Wake up, Papa” Elena exclaims in worry, reaching her hand out placing it upon her father's shoulder.

“Wake up, Odysseus, they're opening the bag! Wake up!” Penelope shouts with her and the children fading away.

Odysseus wakes up seeing the wind bag now open, the storm now released!

“NO!” He shouts

Chapter Text

Odysseus watched as he saw Penelope come out of the water next to the boat. “Don't you miss me?” She asks

He gives a smile, he’d give anything to be back with his family. “More than you know.” He answers

She swims closer to the side placing her hand upon the wood of the boat using her other hand to reach up to him “Then jump in the water and kiss me.”

Odysseus playful tucks his hair behind his ear, showing the beeswax he had in. “Penelope, I've told you this before, you know I'm afraid of the water.”

“I'll make sure that you are safe and sound Come play with me and our daughters and let's watch our love leave the ground” She said while two little girls came out of the water, to give credit to them one little girl was pretty close to how Elena looked. Though Odysseus wasn't going to be fooled by these illusions.

He starts to walk around the boat making sure ‘Penelope’ kept her eyes on him “Oh, I would. But I'd be suffering trying to float the whole time”

I would take the suffering from you

The two girls go back under the water as Penelope followed after Odysseus, while doing so the crew used nets to capture them having them transform back into their original siren forms

“Ooh, as good as that sounds, right here I'm just fine”

I can take the suffering from you

“You know that I prefer my feet on the ground”

I will take the suffering from you

Odysseus gives a small sigh it was time to get some information from ‘Penelope' “Fine, but only if you answer a question or two.” Penelope smiles nodding her head “Of course!”

“Okay! So, let's say I was on the run. Or hiding! From, I don't know, Poseidon? And let's say he blocked the way home, with giant waves and giant storms!” He explains pacing back and forth in his spot, taking a glance at his crew as they were pulling more sirens out of the water with nets.

“Oh no…” She replies rolling her eyes while looking at her nails that were now claws.

“How am I to evade him? How am I to get home? Which route should I take? Where am I supposed to go?” He continues

‘Penelope’ was starting to get a little annoyed but she answers “He will chase you high and low So find a place he'd never go The one way you'll get home Is sailing where he's scared to roam, oh It's through the lair of Scylla”

Odysseus’s eyes widened with fear “No…” He knew of Scylla, out of all the places why did it have to be there? Couldn't there be another way? He looked down at ‘Penelope' Now leaning against the boat.

“This is your only way home The lair of Scylla” Well there was his answer nowhere else to go but Scylla.

“But Scylla has a cost!”

“Well, you asked and now you know. Now jump in the water!” She playful splashes water up to him. Odysseus rolls his eyes as water drips off his hair and face. He puts back on a smile and continues to play with her.

“Penelope, why? You know I'm too shy and terrified” He dramatically leans against the rim of the boat.

I would take the suffering from you

He holds his hands to his chest “Ooh, for you I would die, but can't you let me stay dry?”

I can take the suffering from you

“You should come onto the ship we'll jump at the same time” reaching over the edge making a come motion with his hand to make her come up.

I will take the suffering from you” She jumps up on the boat leaning toward him. Odysseus sighs “The things I do for you…” he reaches for his sword holster behind his back.

With one quick stab the siren screams in pain! Now injured Odysseus yanks her from the edge, throwing her down onto the floor of the boat. His anger now fully showing “Let's cut the charade, you are no wife of mine! You've been tryin' to take my life this whole time! I know underwater, there are packs of you hiding. Yeah, I know exactly what you are, a siren” The siren hisses at him her true form now out, her scales a deep blue and hair the color of seaweed.

Odysseus gives a nod to one of his men to hold her down. The crew member goes behind her, taking a hold of her arms and firmly holds them behind her back. Once she was secured he bent down meeting her eyes “My real wife knows I'm not scared of the water! And my real wife knows I only have one daughter! But while you were so focused on turning my men into snacks You didn't notice that your friends got snatched” He smirks

“What?” The siren exclaims in a mix of worry and fear.

Chapter Text

~*~* The night before Odysseus left for war ~*~*

Odysseus held baby Elena in his arms as she slept peacefully. He places a gentle kiss upon her head “I hate leaving you my beautiful baby girl, I promise I'll be back soon to you, Telemachus, Penelope and Grandma.” He says softly before placing her back down upon the bed between him and Penelope.

From the doorway stood a dark shadow, giving a smile Odysseus turned to the doorway “come on in Telemachus.” The four year old boy came in and embraced into his father's arms. “I don't want you to leave Daddy.” His voice, solemn.

Odysseus rubs his son upon his head “I don't want to leave either but I have to. I’ll be back I promise. While I’m away I have an important job for you.” Telemachus looks up at his dad, eyes sparkling “A job?”

“Yeah, since I won't be here to protect your mom and sister, do you think you can be the man of the house? You’ll have to make sure no one messes with your sister and be there for your mom when she needs someone to talk to. Can you do that?” Odysseus explains gesturing to his sleeping daughter and wife, while Telemachus imagines himself defending his sister from bullies and hugging his mom who was crying.

He nods and gives a salute “I can do it Daddy. I promise I'll make sure Mommy and Elena are safe while you're gone.”

Smiling Odysseus kisses his son upon his forehead “Good. I'm sure you'll do great my son. Now you should get to bed, growing boys need sleep.”

“Can I sleep with you tonight daddy? Mommy and Elena are already in bed with you, I don't want to be left out.”

Chuckling a bit Odysseus lifts Telemachus up and sets him down upon the bed “Of course.” He gets comfortable laying down with him “Good night Telemachus I love you.”

Telemachus yawns “I love you too daddy.”

*~*~Present day~*~*

Telemachus wakes up in his room in his own bed. He sits up looking out the balcony seeing the sun rising over the horizon. “A memory from when I was little…” he says, placing a hand on his chest not forgetting his promise to his father. “It's just me, myself and I Stuck in my bedroom, living in this world you left behind Dreaming of all these monsters that I'll never get to fight But boy, I wish I could, so I could bring the world some light.” walking out onto the balcony he could see his younger sister Elena, her long brown hair braided and curled in the back as she practiced her sword fighting on a dummy made of old sticks and sacks.

She pants heavily before looking up to her brother giving a wave. Telemachus smiles, waving back to her. The one good thing to wake up to seeing his little sister get better with her sword skills. Turning around he heads back into his room with his smile turning into a frown.

“ 'Cause I'm stuck with your stories but barely know who you are, and no idea if you're dead or just too far.” Taking his cape off from one of his chairs. Once the cape was on he headed down to where his sister was practicing to practice his own sword fighting with her, upon getting there were three of the 108 suitors that were too close to Elena backing her up against the wall.

Coming to the suitors making moves on her has caused her to gain a lot of anxiety. Telemachus could see how uncomfortable she was, tears in her eyes and shaking causing her to drop the sword that was in her hand, He ran over to get between the men and Elena “If I fight those monsters, is it you I'll find? If so then, Give me Sirens and a Cyclops, Give me Giants and a Hydra I know life and fate are scary but I wanna be legendary!”

He held his arms out to not have them get near her. The three suitors had close resemblance to monsters he imagined to fight. One had an eye patch, one handsome but face showed danger, and one had a shirt with two monstrous wolf faces on it. They laughed at him but a glance at a few guards walking by quickly had them retreat.

Telemachus lets out a breath, being able to breathe again, he turns to his little sister and wraps his arms around her “It's okay, it's okay. Your big brother’s here.” He comforts. Elena soon calmed down and placed a hand on his shoulder “Thank you big brother.” She smiles, tiptoeing, placing a kiss on his cheek. Taking her sword she heads back to her own room. “I’ll always protect you Elena.” He smiles lightly blushing, surprised Elena still did that while watching her go just in case any more suitors tried anything.

He continues on his own way walking through the halls of the palace spotting more suitors “I'll fight the harpies and chimeras, the Minotaur, even Cerberus, I know life and fate are scary, but I wanna be 1-1-1-legendary!” Moving his hands in a funny motion at the last part.

Until finally coming upon the main corridor of where most of the suitors are at “There are strangers in our halls trying to win the heart of my mom, but she is standing tall.” Watching as the suitors eyed Penelope walking past with her maids and Elena coming up to greet her mom good morning. Penelope ignores the looks and rubs her daughter on her head and kisses her forehead. The two continue on their way while Telemachus makes his way to the throne room.

“108 old faces of men who call me small, they keep taking space and it's not much longer we can stall.” While doing so Antinous smirks menacingly pushing the boy down to the floor.

Telemachus gets up and keeps going and gets to the throne room with a picture of his father, mother, him at the age of four and newborn sister over the two chairs his father and mother sat, his father's chair stabbed with multiple swords and knives “ 'Cause they're getting impatient, dangerous too and I would fight them if I was half as strong as you.” reaching out to his father in the picture.

Pulling back and resting his hand on his chest again still wanting to uphold his promise “Somebody help me, come and give me the strength, can I do whatever it takes to keep my mom and sister safe?” Looking out of one of the windows, outside an owl lands upon a branch of a tree near one of the windows.

“If so then give me Sirens and a Cyclops, Give me Giants and a Hydra, I know life and fate are scary but I wanna be legendary!” He starts to mimic fighting off the different monsters as innocent shadows of things in the throne room transformed looking like the monsters he sang about “I'll fight the harpies and chimeras, the Minotaur, even Cerberus, I know life and fate are scary, but I wanna be legendary!”

Getting out of the throne room he hears the suitors as his mother and Elena begin to walk by again.

Where is he? Where is the man who'll have you to wife?

Penelope side eyes them not caring while Elena holds her mom's hand to comfort her and herself not feeling safe around the suitors.

Oh-whoa-oh

Where is he? Where is the man with whom you'll spend your life?

'Cause it's been twenty years

Telemachus clenches his fists “twenty years…” he couldn't believe it's been that long since his father left.

And we still have no king

He knew he had to be brave though for his mother and sister to make sure they stayed safe with his father still away “Give me a chance, a single opportunity, and I'll overcome these obstacles and scrutiny and-” He was cut off as his wrist was grabbed by hard.

“Boy!” The gruff voice says, it was Antinous “When's your tramp of a mother gonna choose a new husband?”

Oh-oh

“Why don't you open her room so we can have fun with her? Or your sister” he grins “It’d be a great honor for her.”

Telemachus growls pulling his arm out of his grasp “Don't you dare call my mother a tramp! And stay away from my sister!”

Oh-whoa-oh

“I just did, and What'chu gonna do about it coming to her, champ?” He provokes more.

Telemachus raises his fists in anger but also a little worried if he’ll even be able to go up against him. He had to be strong though to protect his mother and sister from him “Somebody tell me, come and give a sign If I fight this monster, is it you I'll find?”

The owl from before circles in the sky near to where they were.

Again I decided to add some more songs, now with Little wolf and next will be "We'll be fine"

Chapter Text

Elena sat upon her mother and father’s bed as Penelope helped fix her hair as it fell out a bit from her sword practicing. Getting it back into the braid waterfall, Penelope hummed softly twisting part of her daughter's hair into a braid. “Mama, can I ask you something?” Elena says looking down at her hands fiddling her thumbs.

“You can ask me anything, my dearest.”

“When papa comes home will he recognize me? Or love me?” Tears forming in the corners of her eyes.

Penelope rubs her daughter's shoulder pulling her into a hug “Oh Elena, of course he’ll recognize you. I know his love for all of us is bigger than Ithaca itself.”

Elena sniffs, wiping the tears that were in her eyes a small smile forming on her face before frowning again “I hope so, it's just hard for me to imagine what papa is like.” She gives a sigh, turning back around for her mother to start on her hair again. “I only know about him thanks to you and Telemachus.” Taking hair in her hands Penelope starts again nodding her head in understanding.

“It's true you were still a baby when he left but you're always free to ask anytime about your father to me sweetie, I don't mind answering. I'm sure when he returns he'll give you the biggest hug he can and kisses on your face.” She giggles having Elena giggle with her.

“Thank you Mama, I can't wait. Hopefully he comes home soon.”

“Me to my dear, me too.”

-

Now with her hair done Elena continued around the palace to find Telemachus and do proper sword practice with him. Upon coming to one of the grounds outside her eyes widened in horror as the suitors were crowded around her brother.

“No… big brother!” She exclaims hurrying over but stops at a safe distance. She didn't have her sword on her, how could she be able to protect her brother like he’s done for her?

She holds her hands together in a prayer position closing her eyes ‘Athena goddess of wisdom and war please help my brother and protect him from these monsters.’ She whispers to not let the suitors hear. Though one person did.

Don't worry your brother's in good hands.” A voice says behind her, having her gasp.

The fight between Telemachus and Antinous began as the two both threw their capes off to the side. Telemachus started by throwing the first few punches only for Antinous to dodge them.

Fight, little wolf, fight

“Wanna entertain me?” He smirks

Bite, little wolf, bite

“Let's see how you take this Strike, little wolf, strike!” He punches back hitting Telemachus across his face.

“Wanna be a man? Then, Fight, little wolf, fight, little wolf, fight!” Him and the other suitors sang as he continued to make blows upon Telemachus. Causing him to fall back only for the suitors to catch him and throw him back in.

Antinous walked around the smaller boy like a predator hunting his prey “You've made your worst mistake here, might be your last one too. You'll have run out of bones to break when you and I are through. I'll teach you all the lessons your daddy never could. This cruel world doesn't give out presents just for being good, so-” He grabs Telemachus by his face before he could finish Telemachus bites down on his hand, having him let go.

Fight, little wolf, fight

Bite, little wolf, bite

They start again Telemachus doing his best to try to land hits on him but Antinous was quick on his feet even if Telemachus got one punch on him it wasn't enough to cause blood.

Wanna entertain me? Let's see how you take this! Wanna be a man? Then Strike, little wolf, strike

Fight, little wolf, fight, little wolf, fight

Or die, little wolf, die

The other suitors began to chant. With Antinous having the upper hand hitting him harder than before this time causing blood to come from Telemachus lip, his face starting to get bruised and swollen from the punches.

Don't you know it's fight or Flight, little wolf, flight?

All because you had to Try, little wolf, try

Run away before you Die, little wolf, die, little wolf, die!

Antinous goes in for another punch but before the punch could land time slowed down. His fist stopped nearly inches away from his face. “Need some help?” A voice asked behind him, Telemachus spun around seeing an owl who quickly turned into a tall woman, a helmet upon her head, war armor upon her body, a spear in one of her hands and a pure white owl sitting upon her shoulder. He knew who this was but what was this place?

“What's going on here?” He questions

Athena steps forward to him “Is your plan to stand around? 'Cause I suggest you fight back”

Telemachus slumps his shoulders “I don't know how-”

“Uppercut him, now.” She cuts him off.

Doing as told Telemachus gives an uppercut punch to his jaw in a very quick motion. His eyes sparkled in excitement “Whoa, how did I do that? Is time now moving slow?” Athena ruffles his hair a slight chuckle in her voice “No, I just made your thoughts quick.”

“Woah, that is so sick!” He smiles

“Alright now, let's try this again.” She moves her hand across his face healing him from the bruises and blood.

Her face now grows in anger walking toward the frozen Antinous “I've no respect for bullies, those who impose their will. I've seen plenty enough to truly understand this kind of filth!” Then going back over to Telemachus standing behind him in support, time begins to move again.

The other suitors chant around them.

“Let's teach this dog a lesson in front of all his kind! One young wolf has a larger heart than all these men combined!” She gestures with her spear to all the other suitors as her owl flies off and lands onto Elena's shoulder, the sixteen year old girl smiles with determination watching her brother.

Fight, little wolf, fight

The fight starts again, this time with Telemachus getting better with his moves using his cape to block some of Antinous’ punches.

Show them that you've got some

Bite, little wolf, bite

Take advantage now and Strike, little wolf, strike

Athena chants watching Telemachus fighting. Elena does the same cheering for her older brother “Don't go down without a-” she starts

Fight, little wolf, fight, little wolf the suitors and Athena finish.

Get up and fight

Fight, little wolf, fight

Wanna entertain us? Oh, oh-oh

Bite, little wolf, bite! Let's see how you take this

Strike, little wolf, strike (strike!)

Wanna be a man? Then oh-oh, oh-oh

Antinous now more enraged was relentless, raining down blows with brutal efficiency. Telemachus ducked, weaved, and counter. Getting hits of his own on the older man making him have a bloody nose and bottom lip.

Fight, little wolf, fight, little wolf, fight fight!

Antinous picked up Telemachus by his shirt and threw him down hard on the ground. Having everyone go quiet and Elena covering her mouth in horror. Athena’s owl gently rubbed its head against her cheek to let her know that it would be alright. “Oh, maybe I pushed you a bit too hard.” Athena says a little bit of worry in her voice bending down next to him.

Telemachus rubbed the back of his head pulling his hand back out he saw quite the amount of blood upon it “Ow” he groans. Looking up Antinous stood over him with the other suitors behind him with smirks on their faces. “Go back and cry in your corner. Make sure your mother and sister hear. If she won't choose a man to adorn her, we'll bring blood and tears.”

They all walk off, Elena hides behind one of the pillars to not be seen by them. Once they were all gone she hurried to Telemachus as he walked off back to his room with Athena. The owl on her shoulder flies back over to Athena landing on her shoulder. “Big brother are you okay? I saw what happened. You fought so well and were cool!” she tiptoes kissing him on his cheek.

Telemachus chuckles “Thanks little sister.” He looks up to Athena who was smiling at their relationship. “Tell me, Athena, why did you come to my aid?” He asks. Her smile turns to a frown and avoids looking at the two of them.

Chapter Text

Athena steps out to the balcony of Telemachus’s room. “I had a friend before, and He was a lot like you. I helped him fight through war, but He had his demons too And then we grew apart Then his light went dark.” Reaching out to the horizon of where she and Odysseus first met each other before pulling back holding her first to her chest.

She turns back looking at the two of them walking back into the room “And so, I thought Maybe, if I made a different call, Maybe, we'd unwind.” Sitting down upon Telemachus bed she gently rubs the soft fabric she sat upon. “Maybe, if I help other souls Maybe, if I helped you reach your goal Life could be that bright I could sleep at night.”

Elena gives a frown “This friend must have been very important to you. I don't know who he is but maybe he feels guilty about growing apart from you too, Athena.”

Telemachus goes up to her “I don't know who your friend is either and I don't know what he's like, but My time with you has been splendid. The best day of my life! 'Cause I got in a fight, and I didn't die! I've never felt strong before.” Elena then goes up to her too, sitting beside her “You're our friend, we couldn't ask for more.” She smiles

Athena's sorrowful look turns into a slight smile. Telemachus then runs out to the balcony with his sister and new friend following behind him. He stands up on the ledge, “Be careful big brother.” Elena worries.

“And so, I think Maybe, if life wasn't spent as planned. Maybe, it's time that you lend a hand, I don't think he'll mind If not his friend, then ours.” He sings walking on the ledge, the sun's light shining behind him. Though Elena’s worry was correct as Telemachus lost his balance falling backwards!

Before he hit the ground Athena teleported herself and Elena onto the ground. Athena catches Telemachus in her arms and the three start to sing together.

Maybe, to fall is to learn one way, Maybe, it's all gonna turn out great

She sets the young boy down on his feet, Elena checks to make sure he's okay. Once done Telemachus runs out a little bit away from the two spinning around “I know we'll be fine, I know it's light you'll find!” He holds his hand out to Athena as she and Elena get closer to him.

Athena grew a big smile, she reached out her arm giving a small high five to Telemachus while her owl jumped off her shoulder to Elena’s rubbing it's head against her. “You're good kids” she compliments

“Thanks.” Telemachus and Elena say in unison smiles on their faces.

WARNING!!! Mentions of SA and assault of a minor in case you never heard the song.

Chapter Text

It had been lonely for Elena ever since Telemachus left for his diplomatic mission with Athena especially with the storm that happened close to the kingdom she hoped he was okay. Granted she did have her mother but each of them stayed in their rooms not wanting to be near the suitors. Though Elena did have one good thing, with Athena training her brother she promised to have Ares help train her with her sword fighting.

Waking up early before the sun would rise, Elena put a cloak on to not be spotted by the suitors and made her way out of the palace into the nearby forest to train. The air was crisp and cool, carrying the scent of pine and damp earth. The moon, a sliver of silver in the predawn sky, cast long, dancing shadows that stretched and distorted the familiar landscape.

She reached a small clearing, a space she and Telemachus had used for mock battles when they were children. The air here crackled with anticipation.

There Ares stood awaiting her arrival. His armor, though dark as night, was impeccably crafted, reflecting the faint light with an ominous gleam. His face, framed by dark hair that fell to his shoulders, was surprisingly handsome, though his eyes held a restless intensity, the glint of a wildfire waiting to be unleashed.

“Hello Lord Ares.” She bows, “I’m ready for my next lesson. I’ve been working on what you’ve taught me these past weeks.”

Ares gives her a look, his expression emotionless “If that's true show me what you can do girl.” Taking out his sword, Elena drew her sword, the steel whispering from its scabbard. Taking a breath to steady herself, she assumed a basic defensive stance, feet shoulder-width apart, sword held high, ready to deflect an attack. “I'm ready.” A determined look in her eyes.

Ares watched her, his expression unreadable. Then, with a speed that blurred the eye, he moved. Both of their swords clashing together, Elena moved with grace and confidence, her attacks sharp just like he taught her. Ares studied her, a flicker of something akin to approval in his eyes. "You have come far, girl.” As the two danced with their swords. Then with one final clash with his strength he disarmed her, sending her sword clattering to the ground.

He points his sword to her “You’ve learned from me well. Your skills have improved but you'll never beat the God of war himself.” Lowering his sword he holds out his hand helping her up.

“Thank you Lord Ares. I don't ever expect to defeat you. I'm glad to have learned from you thanks to Athena.” Picking up her sword, bowing again “becoming stronger to protect mama when the time comes.”

“Don't disappoint me when it happens.”

“I won't.”

Ares doesn't respond as he vanishes leaving Elena alone. The sun started to rise creating the colors of purple, pink and orange in the sky. She places her hood of the cloak back on and makes her way back to the palace.

-

Once back at the Palace, Elena passed by a few maids and guards hearing parts of their conversations that Telemachus would be coming back home today. Her heart pounded against her chest in excitement. “Big brother's coming home today?!” She squeals “I can't wait to show him how much I improved with my sword skills!”

She quickly hurried to her room, taking off her cloak, putting her hair into a Crown Braid and placing her tiara on her head. Ready for her brother's arrival home, leaving her room she heads down passing by where the suitors were. She stops seeing her mother in front of them with her father's bow in her hands.

“Whoever can string my husband's old bow
And shoot through 12 axes cleanly! Will be the new king, sit down at the throne and rule with me as his queen!” She announces before placing the bow down on a stand and she leaves the room.

Elena gives a smirk “Mama told me about Papa's bow, no one can string it other than him.” She says quietly to herself so the suitors wouldn't hear.

The suitors went up to the bow taking it off the stand trying to string it. All except one who had a cloak on with a hood over his head. “Is that a new suitor?” She questions, from what she could see he had long dark brown hair, and his body looked very skinny like he hasn't eaten in forever.

Even though she was scared of the suitors, this one didn't give her a frightened feeling. Still on guard she heads over to him taking a loaf of bread off one of the tables. Once close to him she holds out the bread “Um… You look like you haven't eaten, have some bread please.” She said nervous.

The man looked up to her, she could now see he had a beard and took the bread from her gently “Thank you. You're a sweet girl.” He replies

Elena nods “Your welcome, thank you.” she smiles walking off to head down to the docks to watch for Telemachus’ boat for a while.

A few hours later. Elena came back to the palace to get some food, as she skipped breakfast having to train with Ares and her stomach growling was getting the best of her. Eating from a plate of bread, fish and cheese she came by the suitors again, she giggled watching them try to string Odysseus’ bow. “Guess I can eat and watch before going back to wait for big brother.” Sitting down with her plate, eating a bit more of her food.

Whoever can string the old king's bow
And shoot through twelve axes cleanly
Will be the new king, sit down at the throne
Penelope as his queen

Where is he? Where is the man who can string this bow? Oh-whoa

The suitors sang as each of them tried to string the bow, some even teaming up in groups of two or three. Leaning up against a pillar Antinous stood annoyed, he walked up to the current suitors trying to tie it.

“Screw this competition, we've been here for hours None of us can string this, we don't have the power Screw this damn challenge, no more delays Can't you guys see we're bein' played?” He sang taking the bow away from them and throwing it off to the side neither the mysterious suitor Elena met earlier.

Elena scowls at him “How dare they treat Papa's bow like that.” She growls

“This is how they hold us down while the throne gets colder.” He points to the empty throne room chair where Odysseus would sit.

“Hold us down while we slowly age.”

“Hold us down while the boy gets bolder. Where in the hell is our pride and our rage?” Stepping on one of the tables, the other suitors begin to smile and nod in agreement with him. “Here and now, there's a chance for action. Here and now, we can take control Here and now, burn it down to ashes Channel the fire inside your soul!” Kicking and throwing some of the plates that laid upon the table.

Elena's eyes widened starting to get scared she went and hid behind the wall of the entrance she was watching from. Nothing good was coming with drunk and angry men.

Antinous steps off of the table “Haven't you noticed who's missin'?” He gestures to a picture of a young Telemachus “Don't you know the prince is not around? I heard he's on a diplomatic mission And I heard today he's coming back to town.” The mysterious suitor heard this as he passed by with weapons in his arms and smiles warmly hearing about Telemachus.

“So I say, we gather near the beaches I say, we wait 'til he arrives Then, when he docks his ship, we can breach it Let us leave now, today we can strike and hold him down 'til the boy stops shakin' Hold him down while I slit his throat Hold him down while I slowly break his Pride, his trust, his faith and his bones!”

Elena covers her mouth in shock and fear, leaving her finished plate of food. She runs to hurry down to the docks to get to Telemachus before the suitors would.

Making it to one of the entrances before she could put her hand on the door a hand touched her shoulder making her gasp and turn around. There standing before her was her brother! Tears came to her eyes and she hugged him tightly “Telemachus! You're okay!” Telemachus smiles “Of course I am. A few servants came to get me and let me in.” Pulling apart he reaches down to his hip and pulls out her sword giving it to her “It's time to make these suitors leave.”

“Let's take our home back.” Taking her sword from him.

Meanwhile with the suitors Antinous was still telling his plan to them all about Telemachus “Cut him down into tiny pieces. Throw him down in the great below When the crown wonders where the prince is. Only the ocean and I will know!” He then looks toward a picture of Penelope and her holding baby Elena in her arms.

“And when the deed is done! The queen and princess will have no one To stop us from breakin' their bedroom doors! Stop us from takin' their love and more!”

He licks his lips “And then we'll hold them down while their gates are open. Hold Them down while I get a taste. Hold them down while we share their spoils. I will not let any part go to waste!”

Odysseus clenches his teeth hearing all of it! They dare make plans to kill his son and rape his wife and daughter! With his bow in hand he begins to string it.

Here and now, there's a chance for action!

chance for action!

Here and now, we can take control!

take control!

Here and now, burn it down to ashes Channel the fire inside your soul and-

Hold 'em down, hold 'em down

hold 'em down, oh

They all chant

Hold 'em down, hold 'em down Hold 'em down, hold 'em down

hold 'em down

Channel the fire inside your soul, and-

Odyssey shot his arrow through the twelve axes and into Antinous' neck! Blood pouring from his mouth and neck as he chokes and falls dead upon the ground.

Chapter Text

The room was quiet with all the suitors in shock seeing Antinous dead upon the ground. Odysseus takes his hood off, eyes full of rage looking around at the rest of the suitors. “For twenty years, I've suffered every punishment and pain, From the wrath of gods and monsters to the screams of comrades slain. I come back and find my palace desecrated, sacked like Troy! Worst of all, I hear you dare to touch my wife and daughter and hurt my boy!” He says with his voice full of anger and rage “I. have had. enough.” Taking his cape he uses it to blow out the torches at the entrance.

The suitors were now left in the dark except for the light from the torches in their hands. Panicked they ran to the different entrances of the palace trying to open the doors but it was no use as they were locked in. Odysseus starts to take them out one by one with his arrows, along with the help of his loyal servants who had weapons in their hands also taking the suitors out.

Meanwhile Telemachus and Elena were making their way around the dark Palace sword and spear in hand in case of running into any suitors. Thankfully one of the servants gave Elena a torch so both of them could see. Only hearing the sound of their footsteps as they carefully made their way in the dark.

Telemachus stops holding his arm out to stop Elena from walking farther. Using his other hand he places a quiet emotion in front of his lips “Put the torch out.” he whispers. Elena nods in response, taking a deep breath she blows out the torch and they make their way toward the sound of voices.

Up ahead were two suitors talking with each other as they entered a room full of weapons. “Damn, he's more cunning than I assumed. While we were busy plotting He hid our weapons inside this room.” one says.

“I find it hard to believe that the sharpest of kings Left his armory unlocked.” The other says while taking an axe into his hands.

Elena’s eyes widened at the mention of the word king. ‘King?! Does that mean Papa's here!?’

The other suitor gives a smug grin “So what? Now that we have armed ourselves Let's make the bastard rot!”

Telemachus made his way up to the suitor with his spear in hand ready to attack.

“Behind you!” The other shouts

It was too late though as the suitor was stabbed through the chest with Telemachus’s spear giving a gasp before Telemachus pulled the spear out of his chest. Elena made her way up to him with her sword standing next to her brother.

“Throw down those weapons And I ensure you'll be spared.” Telemachus says trying to reason with the suitor.

“After seeing what the king will do to us We wouldn't dare.” He responds

“We don't wanna hurt you But trust us, We've come prepared.” Elena speaks up to at least try and make the suitor reconsider.

“Ha! Your very presence has doomed the king, young kids. We don't fight fair.” The suitor says in arrogance.

“Stop!” Telemachus shouts but it was no use.

The suitor begins to shout to other suitors that are alive and near them. “Brothers, we got company and he's made a grave mistake! Left the weapons room unlocked, and now they're ours to take! Brothers, come and arm yourselves, there's a chance for us to win! We can still defeat the king if we all attack the kids!” Other suitors begin to come around them and into the room taking as many weapons that they can ready to attack the siblings.

Together Telemachus and Elena fought them off. Elena spun, her small but deadly sword a blur of silver. She aimed for exposed limbs, for gaps in their armor, fighting with a desperate pragmatism. She knew she couldn't match their strength, but she could outsmart them, outmaneuver them. She dodged a clumsy spear thrust, driving her sword into the thigh of its wielder. A desperate alliance against the encroaching tide. Elena managed to trip one suitor, sending him sprawling, while Telemachus used the opportunity to knock another off balance. But for every one they incapacitated, two more seemed to take their place.

Where are they? Where are they?

“Capture them, they're our greatest chance!” The main suitor yells

“Get off me, get off my sister!” Telemachus shouts as one suitor tries to grab him, resulting in him getting struck by Telemachus's spear. While another took hold of his sister's arms Telemachus growled, throwing his spear at him striking the suitors down.

“Fight 'til the kids can barely stand!”

Hold them down, hold them down

“Make the king obey our command!”

Hold them down, hold them down

The relentless pressure was taking its toll. Elena's movements were becoming slower, her parries less precise. Her sword felt heavy in her hand, her arm aching with exhaustion. Telemachus was faring no better, his face pale and drawn, his movements sluggish.

One of the most cunning and ruthless of the suitors, saw his opportunity. With a swift movement, he kicked Elena's legs out from under her. She fell hard, the air knocked from her lungs, her sword skittering across the blood-slicked floor. Before she could regain her footing, he was upon her, pinning her to the ground with his knee on her chest. She struggled, kicking and clawing, but he was too strong.

“'Cause if he won't, I'll break one of the kid's hands! Got him.” The suitor had managed to disarm Telemachus. He grabbed the young man by the scruff of his neck, slamming him against a pillar. Telemachus groaned, his head hitting the stone with a sickening thud. He slumped against the pillar, dazed and bleeding. While the suitor took one of Telemachus's hands in a firm grip.

Elena watched in horror as the suitor raised his sword, ready to deliver the killing blow. "No! Big brother!" she screamed, her voice hoarse with desperation.

A shadow fell across them. In a split second the suitor holding Telemachus was stabbed through his chest and heart. He gurgled, blood bubbling from his lips “Me-mer…” he tried to let out his body starting to limp his hand releasing Telemachus.

“Mercy? Mercy?” Odysseus growls

He shoots an arrow at the head of the suitor that was holding Elena down. Telemachus makes his way over to her helping take the corpse off of her. His spear back in his hand “Stay behind me little sister.” He voices worry and protectiveness.

“My mercy has long since drowned! It died to bring me home!” Odysseus states as he continues to fire arrows at the other suitors.

“And as long as you're around, my family's fate is left unknown! You plotted to kill my son! You planned to rape my wife and daughter!”

Elena's eyes grew in shock and her stomach turned as she felt sick hearing that. ‘They planned to rape me and mama!’ tears formed in her eyes as she started to shake and hyperventilate. Telemachus, hearing this, turns around to her and pulls her into his embrace “It's okay, it's okay little sister. You're alright I'm here Elena. I'm here.”

“All of you are going to die!” Odysseus yells stabbing one of the suitors with an arrow. Before he goes back to the suitor who he stabbed through the chest “You’ve filled my heart with hate. All of you, who have done me wrong This will be your fate!” Taking a sword he cuts off the suitor's head! Screaming filled the palace of the remaining suitors who were getting taken out by the servants who were with Odysseus.

Notes:

Okay, everyone for the next song "I can't help but wonder" I've been debating wether it should be a duet with Telemachus and Elena or if it should be just with Elena as in my story Telemachus knows a little more about his father.

If any of you have any suggestions on this feel free to comment them.

Hope you all enjoyed the chapter ^^

Small edit: This is just a goal I set for myself, if the views reach 700 I'll start on the final chapter.

Chapter 9

Notes:

I won't lie I've cried a lot when listening to "I can't help but wonder" and adding Elena doing this chapter made me cry more.

Also thank you to ithydoodles for helping on how to do the lyrics with this chapter!

Chapter Text

When the screams of the suitors ceased around them, Telemachus looked toward Odysseus. He recognized the face from the pictures and from the night before his father left for war. Glancing down to Elena he could feel her trembling had stopped and her breathing slowed down to her normal pace. “Elena, are you okay?” He asks gently, rubbing her upon her head.

She gives a slight nod “Yes, I’m okay now. Is that man really Papa?” Her voice barely above a whisper.

“He is, would you like to go meet him?”

Elena shakes her head “No, you can go first big brother. I don't know what to say yet.”

“Alright.” He releases Elena from his embrace and makes his way toward Odysseus. Even though he remembered how much of a kind and caring person his father was back when he was four, seeing what he just did to the suitors did make him feel anxious. His heartbeat quickened and he started to lightly tremble nervously with each step getting closer and closer to his father.

“Father?”

Odysseus looks toward him, his eyes softening “Son…”

Once close enough Telemachus smiles “I kept my promise father. I made sure that mom and Elena were safe while you were away.” Odysseus smiles warmly, caressing his son’s cheek “You did and I'm so proud of you.”

Tears start to come to Telemachus's eyes “Days and nights I wish that I could show you. For many years I never could outgrow you. Oh, and now you're here. I can't help but wonder, what your world must be If we're like each other, if I have your strength in me.” As he remembers the years flowing through his mind of being by his mother and sister’s side, trying to be the best man of the house.

Odysseus starts to tear up as well pulling Telemachus into a hug “Oh my son, look how much you've grown. Oh, How time has flown, all these years I’ve known that you’d be a hero of your own.” Pulling apart he kisses him upon his forehead “Can you do one last thing as the man of the home and tell your mother I’ve returned.”

Telemachus smiles sniffling, wiping the tears from his eyes “Of course.”

Now it was only Odysseus and Elena. Elena bit her lower lip nervously, feeling the tears starting to come to her eyes “Papa…” she let out the word felt foreign, clumsy on her tongue. It was a word she had only ever used in her dreams, in the quiet moments when she tried to piece together the phantom image of the man described by her mother and Telemachus.

Odysseus looks toward her “Elena.” He says softly.

Elena fidgets with her hands still not knowing what to say to the man in front of her who has been gone for so many years. Her heart racing like a rabbit before she finally starts “All my life, I'd have died to meet you. Thought about your name so much it hurts. For many years, I'd dreamt of how I'd greet you, oh, and now you're here I can't find the words…” As she sings she walks up to her father picking up a piece of cloth from the ground, once close enough to him she begins to gently wipe the blood off his face.

“All this time I've wondered, if you'd embrace me as your own… Many years I've wandered, For so long with me and Telemachus alone.” Her voice breaking as tears started to go down her cheeks.

Odysseus smiles, when Elena was done wiping his face clean he bends down picking up a piece of cloth and wipes her tears away. “Oh my baby girl, the sweetest joy I've known. Years ago I held you in my arms How time has flown, oh, used to say I'd make the storm clouds cry for you both used to say I'd capture wind and sky for you both. Held you both in my arms prepared to die for you.”

He puts the cloth down and gently cuffs Elena's face “I can only wonder what your world has been. Things you've had to suffer and the strength you hold within, all I've ever wanted Was to reunite with my own Twenty years we've wandered But today you and your brother are not alone.”

Tears began to flow down Odysseus’ face as he happily exclaimed “My daughter, I’m finally home!” He hugs her tightly.

Elena sobs in his arms “Papa, how I’ve longed to see you!” She says between her sobs.

“Elena, I’m home”

“Home~” she joins in.

Pulling apart Odysseus moves a strand of her hair from her face. He begins to place multiple kisses on her cheeks and forehead, having her giggle “Papa! That tickles.” Her face growing pink, a little embarrassed.

Odysseus chuckles “I’m just giving all the love to my little girl I've missed out on.”

Telemachus comes back turning from the corner “Father, she's waiting for you.” He announces.

Elena places a gentle hand on her father's shoulder “Go on Papa, Mama's been so strong waiting for you to return.”

Odysseus smiles, kissing Elena's forehead one more time before walking off. While passing Telemachus he places a hand on his son's shoulder “Thank you son.”

Telemachus walks over to Elena “How was it? Finally getting to meet our father.”

Elena turns to him smiling “He's exactly like what you and mama told me about.”

As Odysseus walked towards his and Penelope's room he stopped midway through the hall. “Show yourself I know you're watching me, show yourself.” Time slows down and before him Athena appears having her back turned to him.

“You were never one for hellos.” He greets

Athena with a frown on her face opens her mouth to speak “I can't help but wonder what this world could be. If we all held each other with a bit more empathy, I can't help but feel like I led you astray. What if there's a world where we don't have to live this way?” A small tear going down her cheek.

Odysseus stays quiet for a few seconds before speaking “If that world exists, it's far away from here It's one I'll have to miss, for it's far beyond my years. You might live forever, so you can make it be, but I've got one endeavor, there's a girl I have to see.” Turning his head toward the door of his and Penelope's room.

Athena smiles, turning herself around and taking her helmet off showing one side of her face scared from the battle between her and Zeus. “Very well.”

The two hug each other goodbye. Once letting go Athena turns into an owl and flies out one of the windows of the palace, Odysseus had his hand up giving a small wave goodbye and a smile on his face that he and Athena rekindled their friendship.

Now there was one final thing to do and it was to see Penelope after so long of being apart.
