Disaster Chance Meeting

Summary:

This wasn't the kind of thing Inias normally did, drinking his sorrows away at a bar. But here he was, and he just wanted to sulk alone. Until the bartender offered an ear, and Inias had no one else to talk to about his heartbreak.

Notes:

Lee isn't in Stars 1 or Stars 2. He is in the timestamps of the first Stars. Appearing in the I Love You Curse and Dean's Loss, but you don't have to read those fics to read this one.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Three drinks in, and he was already looking at the bottom of his glass. The amber drink looked lighter now that there was hardly anything left. This wasn't something he'd normally do. Drink his sorrows away at some rinky-dink bar while Lynyrd Skynyrd played in the background.

But his heart had been ripped from his chest.

Just like that, his hopes and dreams for the future were shattered, and it was all Dean Winchester's fault.

Inias would have given Cas everything. He would have been a way better mate than Dean. Inias was more mature, smarter than Dean. He had to have a higher education than Dean.

God, Inias hated that name, Dean. It made his face twist just thinking of it.

What the hell did Cas see in Dean? The omega was ratty! He wore flannel shirts, leather jackets that were too big, and jeans with holes in them! It was like Cas's omega husband wished he were born an alpha or something. How the hell was Dean fit to be a good omega mate? Let alone a father?

Did Dean even take care of their pups? Did he even help around the house or cook homemade meals?

Or was Dean the type to hit the bars every night for a good time?

Inias would’ve been the perfect omega for Cas. He would have taken care of him like an alpha should be taken care of. Hell, Inias was willing to raise Cas's pups! He would’ve been a way better father to them than Dean ever could.

Inias would have been an amazing stepfather—they would have called him dad one day. Then, Inias would give Cas more pups. They would have had a big, happy family.

But Cas didn't want to leave his husband. He threw Inias away for Dean out of all omegas!

What did Dean have that Inias didn't?

"Hit me." Inias grumbled when the bartender returned to his side.

It was a busy night, filled mostly with alphas, but there were some betas and omegas here. This place had a reputation. It might be an alpha's bar but all were welcome and if any knothead gave an omega shit, the owner would act shiftly.

"Sure that's a good idea? Do you got anyone to drive ya home?" The bartender asked.

The bartender, an alpha who smelled of leather, whiskey, and tobacco. He had a broad frame that filled out the sleeves of his worn-out Henley shirt. Back in the day, Inias could picture this alpha having a strong jaw, but years added weight to his face. He had to be in his forties, and long stopped caring about shaving because his face was peppered with stubble. His steel blue eyes were cold, tired. Like life had chewed him up and spat him back out.

The alpha's hair was overgrown at the sides, like he couldn't have been bothered to cut it for months. The long ends curled, especially at the nap of his neck.

Inias had to admit, the alpha was attractive. He was an alpha's alpha type of man, and Inias liked that. If he had seen this alpha first, he would have gone after him. Cas might be cuter, but this guy was more alpha.

But Inias didn't.

He ran into Cas first, fell in love, and then had his heart broken.

So, now, all he wanted was to drown his sorrows away.

"Hit me." Inias repeated, more sternly this time.

The alpha shrugged and turned around, grabbing the bottle of whiskey. He filled Inias's glass up, but instead of leaving, he gestured for someone behind them. "Hey, take over for me, will ya?"

The alpha grabbed an empty glass in one hand and the whiskey bottle in the other. As a beta stepped behind the bar, the bartender walked around and took a seat beside Inias, pouring himself a drink.

“So, what’s a beautiful omega like you doing here, drowning their sorrows in whiskey?

Inias felt his cheeks heat up, but he didn't want the alpha to see how affected he was. "And why should I tell you? I don't know you."

The alpha huffed out a laugh. "Name's Lee."

"Inias." He replied, turning his gaze back to his drink.

He wished it were Cas sitting next to him. That the alpha would come grovelling back to him. Inias would forgive him, take him back, after he made Cas beg. But Cas wasn't coming, he would never pick Inias over his whore of a husband. Inias picked up his glass, gulping the liquid that burned his throat as he wished Cas and Dean an unhappy marriage.

"I know that look." Lee committed, and Inias snarled. There was no way the alpha could understand his pain. "Wanna talk about it?"

Inias closed his eyes and sighed. Maybe it was the booze, or maybe it was because he couldn't talk to his family or friends. His friends didn't side with Inias when he told them about what happened. They sided with Cas and Dean. And he knew his family wouldn't understand. They would think of him as a homewrecker, scolding him that he should’ve never gone after a mated alpha.

Either way, his lips were loose.

"An alpha I loved led me on…" Inias grumbled. "We were clearly dating, but he claimed he thought we were just 'friends'." He spat with disgust. "He ran back to his husband, who isn't fit to call himself an omega!"

"Was he that good to try to step in on his marriage?" Lee asked, taking a sip.

It should sting, it should sound like judgment, but it didn't. It sounded like Lee just wanted to know out of curiosity.

Inias shrugged. "I thought so… I mean… Cas wasn't all that alpha, but he’s attractive. He’s a teacher too, so we had a lot in common. I just… I don't get it… I’m way more of an omega than his husband! One look at the guy and you'd think there was something wrong with his brain. Like, he wanted to be something else besides an omega. So what does that say about me? Is there something wrong with me? Am I not omega enough?"

"There ain't anything wrong with ya, sweetheart. You're plenty omega." Lee answered, but Inias didn't believe him. There had to be something wrong with him, just had to be if an alpha would pick someone like Dean over him. As if Lee could read his mind, his face softened. "I took a hit to my pride. Question myself as an alpha when the omega I thought I’d mate left me."

"An omega left you?" Inias asked. He couldn't understand it. Lee oozed alpha, and he was attractive now. Inias could only imagine how beautiful he looked in his youth.

Lee hummed, taking a swing from his glass. "I was madly in love with an omega named Dean."

Inias shook his head. "What is it about omegas named Dean? Dean's the name of Cas's husband."

Lee barked a humorless laugh. "I'm not sure… It must be a curse or somethin'."

Inias chuckled. "So… What happened with you and your Dean?"

"Now he wasn't all that of an omega." Lee grumbled. "But I still loved him. Figured when we got mated and he had my pups, he'd settled down a bit… But he didn't understand how alphas work. See, I own three bars and—"

Inias's brows shot up. "You own this bar?!"

Lee’s smile was filled with pride. "Sure do, and two others!"

Now that was impressive. Cas was a teacher too, and Inias was attracted to that, but Cas didn't own anything. Lee had three bars, and that meant he had money. An alpha who could provide? That was hot.

Inias turned in his stool so he could face Lee better. "Go on."

"Got bars out of town, so I gotta travel from time to time. Dean could’ve joined me, I would have loved to have my omega around, but he was stuck in his dead-end job." Lee paused to take another sip. He sighed and wiped the corner of his lips with his sleeve. "I supported him, of course, but he couldn't see as an alpha, I had needs. He surprised me one day when I was out of town at my other bar. He walked in on me sleepin' with another omega. Wouldn't even hear me out."

Inias leaned closer, placing his hand on Lee's knee. "I don't think it was your fault. It sounded like your omega wasn't providing what you needed. I bet if you gave you the… Affection you needed before you left town, you wouldn't have had to find it from another omega."

"Thank you!" Lee threw his hand in the air, sounding relieved. "Finally, someone gets it! Could never talk no damn sense into him. I tried to give him space, to prove that he needed me, but he went and mated some dork! I could hardly call the guy an alpha! Dean even had pups with this guy, and I knew it was over. Even if Dean came back to his senses, I don't want a male omega with c-section scars from another alpha's pups."

"Well… If I were your omega, you wouldn't worry about needing another omega to fulfill your needs. I would send you off feeling satisfied." Inias bit his lip, loving the way Lee's eyes grew wide, darker with lust.

"Oh?"

"And I've never had pups." Inias added. Loving the way Lee smirked.

"Well then…" Lee raised his glass. "Fuck your Cas! Fuck my Dean! We both deserved better!"

"Now that, I can cheer to." Inias grabbed his glass and clinked it against Lee's.

🥃🥃🥃

Lee snored beside him, but Inias couldn't sleep. He was too caught up in a dream come true. He was wearing Lee's flannel and nothing else. They were in Lee’s bedroom, tangled in limbs and sheets. Inias never got to taste what Cas had to offer, but he couldn't compare to Lee.

No one had ever rocked Inias's world like Lee.

Inias brought Lee's shirt up and breathed in. He loved being surrounded by the alpha's scent.

He had been foolish to think Cas was the one for him. Lee was his alpha, his soulmate. They were meant to be, and Inias knew this was the start of something beautiful.

Notes:

Okay, I swear I will do timestamps focused on Dean and Cas, but I've had so much fun with these side characters and wanted to play around with them more lol. This one, I wanted to do right off the bat. I wanted to write it while I was writing Stars 2, but I just never had the time.
