Luna Lovegood didn’t plan to go back to Hogwarts after the war, but seeing as her friends were going back to take their N.E.W.T.s and she didn’t have anything lined up, she decided to attend with them to figure out what she wanted to do with the rest of her life.
Her eighth year started off just as she expected, fake smiles plastered on faces in an attempt to feel and act normal. A few wand fights in hallway corridors erupted from the Gryffindor and Slytherin students, but nothing that the professors couldn’t break up easily. Everyone was just too exhausted from all the fighting, and those troublesome wand fights stopped pretty quickly after the professors had them sign up for inter-house unity activities.
One evening, after finding a small hatchling, Augury, out of its nest, Luna took it amongst herself to heal it back to health and discovered that she quite enjoyed caring for magical creatures. She was a natural at it.
Luna found herself taking walks near the Black Lake after dinner to sketch magical creatures in her sketchbook that reflected them in their natural habitat. It was after a few weeks that she made up her mind on what she wanted to pursue. She wanted to become a magizoologist after taking her N.E.W.T.s and study and care for magical creatures at a sanctuary.
It was a quiet Saturday evening at the Black Lake, where the sun was making its final performance for the day and showing off hues of orange and pinks while crickets chirped in the tall grass. Luna was seated out by her favorite large willow tree, sketching a group of jackalope when she heard rushed footsteps approach and then quickly stop a few feet away from her.
Normally, the Black Lake was deserted at this time of day, so this took Luna by surprise. She placed down her sketch pad and pieces of charcoal that she was drawing with, and her feet decided to move and follow where the sound trailed off. Her curious nature always got the best of her, and she couldn’t help but wonder if someone needed help.
She followed the sounds of soft sobs and came across a tall figure who leaned against a giant boulder. The stranger wiped away tears and seemed to be enchanted with the last rays of sunlight dancing on the lake, that he didn’t notice Luna quietly approaching.
“It’s quite lovely out here this evening, isn’t it?” Her soft whisper startled the figure as he turned, twigs crunching beneath him, and wiped away the last of his tears as if they were never there.
Luna recognized the stranger as Theodore Nott. The shy Slytherin in her potions class, who, like the rest of them, fought in a war and was trying to go back to normalcy. Whatever normalcy was these days.
She strode up and leaned against the boulder next to him and stared off into the distance, watching a few birds sweep down to the lake and scoop up their dinner.
Theo turned and glanced down at her through long dark lashes, his wavy chestnut hair falling into his eyes, his face slightly puffy from crying.
Before the war, Luna might’ve seen this sight as jarring, but she grew accustomed to seeing people at what they assumed was their worst. She felt like it was more real to see people like this. There was no hiding behind masks.
“I’m sorry to bother you. I didn’t think anyone was out here tonight.” He finally said, flat and toneless.
“I came out here for that exact reason. I can study the creatures in their natural habitat without them getting spooked by humans.” Luna pointed to their right at the jackalope she was sketching, and Theo turned to look.
Luna crouched down at his side, let her pleated school skirt pool around her, and patted the earth beside her, signaling for him to take a seat. She wasn’t sure what he would do, but thought it was worth a try.
To her surprise, he sank down and sat beside her, swiping his hood off his head and shaking out his curly hair with his hands.
“Here,” Luna reached into her pocket and pulled out peeled orange slices, opening up her palm so Theo could grab a slice. “A lot of people think jackalopes like to eat carrots like rabbits do, but one day after dinner, I was out here and dropped a few slices. A small jackalope hopped up to me and started nibbling one of the slices from my hand.” She lifted up her hand to encourage Theo to take one. “Here, you try.”
Theo did not respond but stared at her hand curiously. He slowly reached and grabbed a slice from Luna’s hand and held out his palm like how she showed him.
The closest jackalope perked up his giant ears and antlers and stuck his small pink nose in the air as it sniffed the citrus scent. It turned it's head and slowly started to approach Theo with slow, measured hops.
“Look!” Theo exclaimed, the pitch in his voice rose with excitement.
Luna nodded her head with encouragement towards Theo. She didn’t know what brought him out here, but she was glad she could take his mind off of things, even if it was just for a brief moment.
The jackalope approached Theo and grabbed the slice from his hand with it's paws and started to nibble at the orange slice.
Theo chuckled at the funny looking creature in front of him, all while Luna watched the pair in awe.
“Now scratch just behind his antler. They like that,” Luna smiled at Theo with encouragement.
Theo reached out hesitantly, and scratched the jackalope right behind his antler, just as Luna said. He laughed when the jackalope started thumping his foot happily before scurrying off to be with the rest of it's group near the edge of the water.
“Do you want to talk about why you were crying earlier?” Luna looked up at him with care in her eyes. She hoped he could sense the earnestness of her question not take it as her prying. She wasn’t sure why, but she got the sense he just wanted someone to talk to. Someone who wouldn’t judge his thoughts.
She held her breath as she waited for him to answer.
“Today is my mum’s birthday…” Theo said, trailing off and watching the remainder of the sunset.
Luna tilted her head in confusion. She didn’t understand why he would be crying for his mum’s birthday.
Theo must’ve read the uncertainty on her face as he continued where he left off.
“She died when I was five years old. It never gets easier.”
There it was. How could she tell him that she understood him in a way she wasn’t sure she could properly put into words. She softened her face and smiled at him softly as she plucked a fluffy dandelion from the ground.
“I understand the feeling. My mum passed away during childbirth, and it was my father who raised me.” She said nervously as she twirled the dandelion in her fingers.
“Are you trying to one up me on sadness, Lovegood?” He said without looking at her.
Luna perked her head up. She didn’t mean to offend him.
“Oh, I…” she trailed off with embarrassment before he turned to look at her with a smirk on his face and a dimple on the left side of his cheek. She had never noticed his dimple before today. She looked at the sharpness of his jawline and the way his eyes sparkled cerulean in the fading light. Her heart pounded a little faster as his smile widened.
“I just thought we were sharing sob stories. That’s all,” she narrowed her eyes at him, dark with a humorous glint to complement his mischievous ones.
She took a moment and made a wish before blowing the dandelion in his direction, hoping it gave her intentions a massive boost. The white fluffy parachutes of the dandelion floated in his direction as he blew the puffs away from his face and watch them drift towards the water.
They burst out laughing in unison, breaking the heavy tension that they found themselves in when they heard a twig snap in the distance.
They turned their heads to the sound and noticed two jackalopes appear in the tall grass: the one from before and a small fluffy one following along. Luna smiled and reached back into her pocket to pull out the remaining orange slices, and handed them to Theo.
He smiled at her, showing off his dimple that sent a slight chill down her spine as he grabbed the slices and held out his palm like Luna showed him earlier.
They both sat in comfortable silence, and the jackalopes nibbled their orange slices while the remaining light danced above the water until it finished its performance and signaled that it was time to head back to the castle.
“Who’s up for a round of spin the bottle?” Ginny asked while she plopped down into an overstuffed yellow sofa, as the party full of 7th and 8th year students started winding down and couples snuck off back to their dorms. The inter-house unity activities at the beginning of the year proved to be successful, and the students from all houses realized they had more in common than not and began to have parties every Friday night. It became tradition that a different house hosted the festivities in their common room, and this week, the Hufflepuffs were hosting.
The Hufflepuff’s common room turned out to be everyone’s favorite place to party at. Not only was it warm and cozy with some of the best chairs but it was located in the Hufflepuff Basement and away from the professors. The Hogwarts kitchens were nearby and after the party’s would end, drunken students would sneak by and pick up a treat from the wide assortment of goodies the house elves would leave for them before sneaking back to their dorms.
“I am,” Draco replied as he winked and raised a cocky eyebrow at Hermione before he plopped into another oversized sofa across from Ginny.
Hermione rolled her eyes and scoffed in annoyance as she sat next to Ginny, but those two weren’t fooling anyone. The subtle glances they would send each other in the Great Hall, followed by hastily cast glamoured charms around their neck, was enough proof for anyone with eyes, but their friends decided to let them come out with their relationship when they were ready.
Luna happily strolled over and sat in an empty chair as Blaise, Pansy, Neville, Seamus, Cho, and Padma all took a seat, and they formed a circle - all with a drink of their own in hand. Just because the party was winding down doesn’t mean this group was ready for the party to end. To them, this is when the party was just beginning.
She couldn’t help but notice a shy Slytherin missing from the group and looked around to see if she could spot those chestnut curls, but failed to find him in the crowd.
“Oye, Nott! Get over here.” Blaise hollered to a group chatting in a circle across the room.
Luna felt her stomach drop at the sound of his name, and she looked in the direction Blaise was shouting in. She tried to be subtle, but she’s sure she failed miserably. Thankfully, the group was too drunk to notice the rosey blush that crept on her cheeks. If anyone asked, she would simply blame it on the alcohol.
There he was in muggle jeans and a black fitted tee at the drinks table, chatting with Lavender Brown before he flipped the bird in Blaise’s direction and began walking towards the group. Lavender followed closely behind him. Luna thought she was walking a little too close to him and thought twice about hexing her shoelaces together but decided against it. She didn’t want her falling on top of him and making a scene. She was sure Lavender would enjoy every minute of that.
Blaise chuckled at Theo’s rude gesture before taking a sip of his firewhiskey.
Luna felt a pang of jealousy at the two walking towards the group, but decided to push those feelings away. She had only spoken to him once. Surely he didn’t feel the spark like she did. Right?
He took a seat across from Luna while Lavender found an empty seat next to Luna.
Perhaps it’s a good thing they didn’t sit next to each other?
Maybe it was the spiked jungle juice Cho made, but Luna was feeling bold tonight. She looked up and gave him a small smile, and he returned a small smile back at her.
“Okay, everyone knows the rules, but just in case y'all are too drunk, I’ll go over them.” Ginny placed her glass down on the table and stood up. She pointed her wand to her throat to amplify her voice while she spoke the rules.
“We will use this to spin,” she placed a vintage wine bottle on the table and gave it a spin. “Whoever the bottle lands on gets to go into those dark rooms with the person spinning and do whatever they like for seven minutes. Y'all heard me, seven minutes, or else I’ll barge in and hex you. I grew up with brothers so just know I'm not afraid to do it,” Ginny winked at the group as she pulled out a stack of wooden popsicle sticks.
Luna never played this game before and was curious what the popsicle sticks were used for.
“Okay, so I’ll go around and each person gets to pick out a popsicle stick, and whoever gets the shortest gets to spin the bottle first. Any questions?” Ginny said as she walked up to each person and let them choose a popsicle stick from her hand.
Blaise looked at Draco, and they tapped each other’s sticks playfully.
Pansy rolled her eyes at the chaotic duo but carefully batted her eyes in Neville’s direction.
It wasn’t lost on Luna to notice the shade of pink Neville’s ears turned at this action, but chose not to comment on it. She was happy for her friends, and she loved seeing everyone get along. Maybe everyone was getting along too well, but she loved seeing a handful of wrackspurts floating around each person’s head.
Luna’s glad Ginny explained the game as she grabbed her popsicle stick from Ginny’s hand and made a quick glance towards Theo’s direction. To her surprise, he was already looking at her and looked away as if he didn’t just get caught by her. She couldn’t help but notice the wrackspurts around his head started to fly around quickly, but everyone’s wrackspurts were acting up tonight. Too much drunken horniness with this group, but she just giggled as she took a drink and decided to go with the flow.
“Now, everyone hold up your sticks and let's see who got the shortest,” Ginny said as she made her way back to her seat.
Luna held up her stick and looked around the room with everyone else. Hers appeared to be one of the longer ones, and felt a wave of relief because she didn’t want to spin the bottle first.
A burst of commotion sounded off to her left, and she looked as Draco smacked Blaise behind the head while Theo was in a fit of laughter.
“Draco has the smallest dick,” Blaise yelled through a fit of laughter while Draco almost pulled out his wand to hex him on the spot. “I’m just playing, mate. I meant to say you had the smallest stick compared to Theo.”
The group laughed, and Luna couldn’t help but giggle from the chaoticness of it all. From how beat red Hermione’s face was, she knew that Draco having a small dick was not the case.
“Okay, Draco, since you have the smallest stick, you get to spin first,” Ginny said as she pointed towards the bottle on the table.
Draco stood up proudly and spun the bottle. It spun four rounds before it started to slow down.
If a pin dropped, it could be heard with how quiet the rather raucous group had gotten. It spun past Luna and started to slow down by Neville.
Neville straightened his back and tilted his head side to side, making it crack, worried it was going to stop on him.
Luna wasn’t sure if it was Pansy or Neville, but heard a sigh of relief as if by sheer magic it made one more turn and pointed towards Hermione.
“Yes,” Draco exclaimed, jumping up for joy. “I mean, cool.” He added smoothly, straightening his shirt.
“Shall we?” Hermione said, cheeks tinged pink, and she stood up and gave him a soft smile.
“After you,” Draco smirked as they made their way to the closet, and he opened it for the couple as they slipped inside.
The door quickly shut with a soft click.
“How long do you think they were waiting before they snuck in there themselves?” Ginny chuckled as she pointed to the now silenced room.
This caught Luna’s attention, and she laughed as she placed a hand over her mouth, “Ginny, did you manipulate the game so the bottle would land on Hermione for Draco on purpose?”
“Sure did! They’re not as secretive as they think they are. Okay, now that we got that out of the way, now the real game begins,” Ginny said as she cast wandless magic on the bottle to remove the charm she added that made sure it landed on Hermione for Draco.
“Okay, Theo, since your popsicle stick was the next shortest, your turn to spin the bottle,” Ginny said, rubbing her hands together mischievously.
Luna saw the breath Theo released before he stood up, wiped his hands down the side of his pants, and gave the bottle a spin.
The bottle spun faster this time around without the enchantments and passed Luna six times before it started to slow down. The whole room silenced as it spun towards Blaise.
Blaise wiped his forehead with the back of his hand sarcastically as if he just dodged a curse as the bottle passed him.
The bottle started to slow down, and Luna held her breath as it started to land on Lavender. Lavender had a giant smile on her face, and Pansy gave her a slight, encouraging nudge to her side with her elbow.
Luna felt a wave of sadness wash over her at this act, but just as she gave up hope, the bottle passed Lavender and stopped… pointing towards her.
It was as if time slowed down as the group erupted in cheers. Luna slowly looked up at Theo and was met with a pair of deep blue eyes that seemed to sparkle in the dimly lit room.
They both stared at each other for a moment before he sent a small smile her way, showing off that dimple that she couldn’t ignore anymore.
“Now off you two go,” Pansy stood up and shooed them away as she clapped Theo on the back as he walked towards Luna.
Theo walked past Luna and gently brushed her hand with his as he headed to the door that was on the other side of the room, away from the closet that Draco and Hermione were in. Luna suddenly wondered how many closets there were in this common room or if the room suddenly got bigger.
That small touch didn’t go past Luna as a jolt of electricity shot up her spine.
She followed Theo to the empty closet as he turned the handle and opened the door, allowing her to go first before he followed and shut the door behind them.
“Lumos,” Theo whispered as he held up his wand to inspect the closet they were now in for the next seven minutes.
Old books and extra pillows that were a variety of the shades, black and yellow, were placed on the shelves.
Luna reached up to grab a few of the pillows for them to sit on, but was too short. She felt a muscular chest gently push up on her back as she realized Theo was reaching over her to grab the pillows.
He grabbed a few pillows and placed them on the floor before he cast a scourgify to clean off the dust that had accumulated on them. Good idea because who knows how long those have been in this dusty closet.
“After you,” he said as he held out his hand for Luna to choose where she wanted to sit.
She sat, letting her baby blue dress splay on the pillows, and he took a seat next to her. A wave of familiarity rushed through her as she thought back on that one evening they shared together at the Black Lake.
“Are you having fun tonight?” Luna said, breaking the silence they found themselves in.
“I am. I wasn’t planning on showing up, but now I’m glad that I did,” Theo said as he shook his wand, and the light from his wand dimmed.
“Me too,” Luna said as she fidgeted with the fringe from the pillow under her.
“What,” Theo’s voice cracked, and he cleared his voice. “What do you think of the game?” He asked with a slight blush on his cheeks as his eyes darted away.
“This is such a silly game, but it’s definitely right up Ginny’s alley. We don’t have to do anything if you don’t want to,” Luna quickly added.
“But do you want to?” Theo asked hesitantly.
Luna thought about it and quickly made up her mind.
“I do,” Luna said confidently.
“Come here then,” Theo reached over and placed his large, warm hands around Luna’s hips and pulled her closer so they were sitting side by side.
Luna, feeling brave, decided to surprise him. Guys like Theo liked surprises, right? Before she had the chance to question her rash decision, she turned and straddled his lap, resting her legs on the side of his legs.
They stared into each other’s eyes for a moment before Theo grabbed her chin and brought her face closer to his, holding her closely as if waiting for her permission before making the next move.
“Wrackspurts,” Luna whispered in the space between them.
“What?” Theo questioned, clearly taken aback.
“The wrackspurts that you had surrounding you earlier have doubled,” She said as she closed the distance and met his lips.
Tingles erupted across her skin as he nipped at her bottom lip, and he deepened their kiss. It was soft and sweet at first, but quickly erupted into thrilling and intoxicating.
Luna snaked her hands into his chestnut curls and tugged lightly before she whimpered in his mouth. At the sound of this, she felt Theo’s cock harden beneath her. He got his taste of her, but now she wanted a taste of him.
Theo released himself from their kiss and looked up to her, “What are wrackspurts?” He asked breathlessly. Trying to keep the conversation going, but also not wanting to stop their kissing as he made his way down her neck.
Luna smiled down at him as she answered, “Wrackspurts float around someone’s head when they’re getting hot and bothered…” She trailed off as she dragged her nails down Theo’s chest.
“Are you feeling hot and bothered, Theodore?”
She noticed Theo’s throat bobble as he nodded his head.
“I am,” he answered as if he was in a trance.
She took control of the situation and slowly lowered herself down to his belt buckle. With ease and grace, she unclasped the buckle and unzipped his pants, all while staring into Theo’s aqua blue eyes.
She pulled his pants and trousers down as he helped her wiggle them down to his knees. His cock sprang forward as it slapped his stomach. She maneuvered herself to sit on his thigh before she looked down.
Of course he has a large cock.
“Perfect,” she said, staring at his cock in front of her as she took hold of it and stroked it with her fingers, carefully playing with his precum that weeped from the tip of his cock, eager for what was next.
She looked up at Theo, and he smirked before she captured a taste with her tongue.
“Fuck…” he groaned before she took him fully in her mouth.
She sucked and maneuvered her tongue up and down his cock in a way that made him moan.
“Fucking hell, Luna,” he groaned under his breath as he ran a hand through his hair, making it messier and stick out on all sides.
“You like that, Nott?” She asked as she released him from her mouth and started stroking him up and down with her fingertips, and felt his leg twitch beneath her. She was sure she was making a mess on his knee as she ground herself on him.
“Mhmm…” He gritted through his teeth, clearly unable to control himself as she continued to work him before she reached back down and began to suck.
Theo grabbed her hair and held it for her, and she continued to work him.
She was glad he held her hair because this gave her the chance to stare into his eyes.
“Luna, you keep looking at me like that, and I’m going to finish,” he grumbled as he threw his head back into the shelves behind him and groaned loudly.
“I want you to finish in my mouth, Theodore,” she demanded as she sucked harder.
His eyes narrowed at her words, and she felt him harden more in her mouth.
She knew he was close.
“Please?” She pleased, and it was what he needed as he released himself in her mouth.
Spurts of warm come slid down her throat as she swallowed and sucked up the remaining come that leaked out of his tip.
“Come here, baby,” Theo said without worrying about the neediness in his voice.
Luna climbed up on his lap, fully aware that her clothed and throbbing clit sat on his cock. She felt him twitch beneath her as he captured her lips in a kiss, not caring that she tasted like him.
“Now it's your turn,” he drawled as he snaked his hand under her dress and pushed her knickers to the side.
Luna threw her head back at his touch and wondered if he could feel how needy she felt.
“You’re so wet for me, Lovegood,” he said.
“Please, Theo, I need you,” she whispered in the silenced room.
Theo rubbed his fingers up and down her slit until he stopped as three knocks pounded on the door.
“Times up, love birds,” Ginny’s voice yelled from the other side of the door. “And I learned the hard way from Draco and Hermione, and I am not traumatizing myself and opening this door right away, but you have a minute before I go in there and yank you out. We need this room.”
Theo huffed his disappointment, and Luna placed her head on his forehead. She couldn’t believe their seven minutes were up, but she hoped it was memorable for him.
“I guess we'd better leave before Ginny hexes our arse,” Luna said as she started to stand up and smooth out her dress.
“Wait…” Theo pulled Luna back down and placed a kiss on her lips. “I really liked that, and I really like you. This isn’t over yet.” He smirked at her and brushed her bangs out of her face before continuing. “I said it's your turn, right?”
Luna felt her cheeks get hot before she nodded in agreement.
I guess it was memorable for him.
“Come with me to my dorm room after we leave this closet, please?”
She didn’t have to think about it. She knew her answer to him.
“Okay,” Luna smiled and nodded happily before placing a kiss on his lips.
They both got up, and Theo used his wand to place a cleansing charm on them as they rearranged their clothes and straightened up their hair.
Luna went to open the door, but Theo stopped and placed a hand over hers that halted her movements.
He opened the door for her and held her hand as they left the room. He locked their fingers together before he looked back at her and squeezed their joined hands as he walked them through their friends and headed to the common room door.
Theo nodded a goodbye towards Blaise while Ginny smirked and sent a wink to Luna as they disappeared out of the front door.
Theo stopped at the long table full of treats and picked up two treacle tarts, a bag of popcorn, and a box of chocolate frogs.
Luna looked up at him curiously at all the snacks he was grabbing. She wasn’t feeling all that hungry.
“For later. You’re going to need regain your strength after all the activities I have planned for us tonight,” he sent a wink in her direction before he turned around and pulled her towards the stairs and down to the Slytherin dungeons.
He doesn't know it yet, but Luna was sure she would follow Theo anywhere.
