Chapter 1: What if we find a way to escape it?

Summary:

The Saja Boys are back! No-one dies before we get anything and we’re not all crying cause Jinu and Rumi will never get a chance to kiss!!

Chapter Text

Jinu POV

“Jinu, you’re an idiot. This won’t work.” Mystery’s tugging at my shirt again.

“Don’t we deserve a chance?” The others look away.

“If not for us, then for Huntrix. They’re-”

“They hate us Jinu! We’re Demons!” Romance grabs my shirt.

“We changed! Our patterns aren’t part of our shame anymore.”

True to my words, our patterns are gone. Not like Rumi’s, iridescent and beautiful, ours are more like mostly gone scars, shining but white.

“Come on, we can’t really back out now.”

“We can teleport-” Baby tries.

“Don’t you dare.”

“..besides, I already told Rumi we’d be coming.”

“WHAT?!”

The elevator dings and the doors open.

Rumi POV

Jinu’s tiger disappeared a while ago, the hat stealing bird’s resting on my nightstand so I know the tiger’s coming back.

It’s been a few weeks since the defeat of Gwi-Ma. The fans have loved my patterns, which is a relief. We even have our new song “What It Sounds Like” as a fan favorite. Though with the slip of “Takedown” at the awards, they’ve been asking for that to be released.

It’s not too bad, we’ve been signing Takedown together ironically since the whole thing happened anyway, so we could easily release that one as well.

The tiger reappears, he starts making his way over to me when he knocks over my trash can. The bird looks at me in that deadpanned way of his and it bubbles a laugh out of me.

“Here let me help.” I walk over and reset the trash can away from the tiger.

He purrs and nudges into me, prompting me to pet him. The bird flies over to perch on the tiger and the tiger opens his mouth to give me a card.

“That’s weird.. where’d you get this?” I ask the tiger as I take it from him.

He just purrs again and settles down at my feet when I sit down on my bed.

I open the card to see a note.

“ ‘See you soon. You might want to go to your living room.’ Seriously, where’d you even get this?” The tiger just stands up and walks out of my room.

With a sigh, I follow him out.

“Hey Rumi! Are you ready?” Zoey asks, her and Mira already on the couch with snacks piled on the table and a movie series ready to play.

“Yeah, just a moment..” I look back down at the card.

”Is everything ok?” Mira asks while walking over, eyeing the card.

”I mean yeah, but.. I only got these cards from Jinu through the tiger, but he just came back with this one a few moments ago.” I gesture to the tiger who’s making himself comfortable on the floor in front of the couch.

I told them about the notes from Jinu during a confession session the night after Gwi-Ma’s defeat. That quickly spiraled into Zoey and then later Mira gushing over the Saja boy they like. Which turned our whole talk into just talking about the saja Boys.

“Maybe he just grabbed an old one and gave it back?” Zoey suggests, grabbing my arm as she leans around it.

“I thought so too until I opened it. He’s never written that before.” Mira hums at the note.

“Cryptic. Do you think it’s just one he decided to just not send?”

“Maybe? But then why would the tiger give it to me?”

The elevator dings and opens to-

“Uhh. Hey..?” Jinu says, turning to face us. The rest of the Saja Boys look a bit panicked.

Their patterns are white..

“I thought you guys died.” Mira says, flexing her hands like she’s ready to start summoning her weapon.

“Do we trust them?” Zoey whispers, looking ready to throw her kunais before they appear.

I ignore her question in favor of walking over to Jinu. He hesitates a second before walking over as well. He stands there, waiting for me to do something. My voice keeps catching. I can’t figure out what to do. What to say. Instead I sing the beginning chorus of Golden.

Jinu’s soul lights up in his chest. He looks relieved at that. I look past him to see the rest of their souls shining too. Baby’s hitches in a gasp. Romance looks like he can’t believe it. Mystery and Abby are looking at each other with small smiles.

Looking back at Zoey and Mira, they look surprised. And thankfully not ready to attack anymore. They’re great friends.

“You can come in.” I wave the boys over. They still hesitate for a second before finally walking out of the elevator and into the room.

Mira walks over to Romance, starting a (probably awkward) conversation with Abby who is leaning on Baby, arms around him as Baby produces a water bottle from somewhere.

I swear I blinked and Zoey appeared next to Mystery. Giggling as she starts talking to him.

“Didn’t you die? You gave me your soul.” I look up to Jinu. He’s looking at my patterns on my face before locking eyes.

“I thought I did.” He whispers “I thought I’d never see you again.”

“But you’re here.” He hugs me.

“I woke up on the Namsan Tower stage, the Saja Boys were already awake when I saw them. I didn’t know what else to do, so I brought them here. They weren’t exactly on board.” He chuckles.

“Did they think we’d hurt them?” I pull back to see his face.

“We did try to kill you.” He shrugs. We pull apart when the bird tweets and the tiger rubs against Jinu.

“I’m going to get Mira and Zoey’s opinions. Be right back.”

Mira seems to be doing fine with the three boys, though a lot more comfortable with Romance and Abby than she was before and at the signing. Mystery looks happy to talk with Zoey who is undoubtedly flirting by this point.

“Mira, Zoey.” I gesture to the side and they follow me over.

“Thoughts? Jinu said they were hesitant to come here.” Mira responds before Zoey could. Zoey looked ready to burst.

“Romance and Abby seemed to be worried I’d attack them if they said the wrong thing. Baby too, but he just kept looking at the elevator. From what they said they plan to continue being a boy band, so that might’ve been how they stayed here instead of disappearing under the Hunmoon.”

“Oh, you’re saying they gained their souls back cause they like being a band?” Zoey asks, she and Mira looking back at the boys. We just shrug at the thought.

“Jinu said he woke up on the stage, but he did have his soul before disappearing.”

“Ughh. They don’t have a place to go, do they?” Mira realizes.

“I mean we do have the space and the rooms..” Zoey looks giddy again. Mira’s hiding a smile.

We look at each other to confirm we’re on the same page. I turned towards the boys who had moved to stand with Jinu. Baby looks to be pouting at Abby and gesturing to his empty water bottle. Abby pats his shoulder with a sorry smile. The tiger and bird sitting in front of Jinu as he pets him.

The boys all tense up when they realize we’re looking at them. “How do you feel about a movie marathon? We were going to watch one before you guys got here.”

The boys sag in relief. “Thank you Rumi.” I smile in response. Walking over and taking Jinu’s hand, dragging him with me to sit on the couch. The tiger followed and sat at our feet. “You need to give those two names, or tell me them.” I say offhandedly as I grab a bag of chips from the pile on the table.

The boys slowly migrate to the couch. Me and Jinu are sitting on the right corner of the couch. Mystery sitting in front of us on the right side/turn. Romance, Abby and Baby sit to our left with a space open between Baby and Romance. Zoey grabs a few snacks and sits next to Mystery. Mira climbs over the couch and sits in the open space after apparently grabbing a bottle filled with juice. She hands it to Baby who quickly grabs it from her.

“Alright! Now hush up and watch!” Zoey grabs the remote to turn on the first movie.

We get a few minutes in before Jinu leans into my ear. “I’m sorry for taking so long” I turn my head into his neck. “You came back. That’s all that matters.”

Chapter Text

Zoey POV

The Saja Boys are back!!!

That is still a crazy thing to think about and it’s been three days!

Speaking of it being three days, we haven’t really left the house in those days, so we’re taking the boys out. Mira suggested shopping, so that’s what we’re doing.

It’s pretty crowded, but that’s to be expected. I got Mystery in a matching blue sweatshirt, I had two, it fits him nicely and oversized on me. I’m holding onto his hand as I’m looking at all the stores around me, he’s not-so-subtly staring at me.

Jinu’s wearing a light brown hoodie that matches Rumi’s sweatshirt over top of his white polo. They’re also grouping together, Rumi holding onto Jinu’s arm.

Romance and Abby are wearing matching black and yellow HUNTR/X merch that matches Mira’s excuse of a disguise. Baby’s in a size-too-big purple sweater with a white bucket hat. The two boys are on either side of Mira, Baby being on Mira’s right after Abby pulls him over.

“Alright, we’re not trying to do any fan service today, so try not to draw any attention to yourselves ok?” Rumi instructs, taking charge.

“And if that doesn’t work?” Baby asks.

“Don’t let it get too much or find each other. If we get sucked into signing things or being around a lot of people, it’s best to do so together.”

I spotted one of my favorite stores.

“Oh! Come check this place out, I love it!”

I pull Mystery with me into the store. Mira and Rumi have my number, obvi, so if they need me or something they’ll text or call.

Jinu POV

Zoey disappears into a store, pulling Mystery along. That boy is wrapped around her finger, and he called me lovesick?

“I’ll keep these three out of trouble.” Mira tells Rumi before walking off through the street. Baby’s already produced a water bottle and is looking around, pointing things out to Abby as Romance talks with Mira.

“So, where to?” I ask, looking down to Rumi.

She looks up at me, eyes locking for about thirty seconds before she speaks in a deceptively sweet voice.

“You need more color in your closet.” What?! She starts pulling me along towards a store I’d seen her looking at before.

“What’s wrong with my closet?” I ask, feigning being insulted. She looks up with a grin.

“Too much pink.”

“Pink is a wonderful color, thank you very much.”

“Uh huh.” She picks up a light purple shirt and holds it up to my chest. “Still. Too much pink.” She gives me one last smile as she walks further in to grab more colors.

Sighing, I resign to my fate and follow to make sure she chooses things I like.

Abby POV

Baby points out another store, this one catching Mira’s eye as well.

“Oh, yeah that’s a good one. Do you want to check it out?” He nods, taking Mira’s hand and walking towards the store.

“As I was saying, your opinion is bland.” Mira tells Romance.

They were talking about flowers, which turned to talking about their favorites, and now Mira is insulting Romance's basic opinion of Roses being the best.

“Abby help me out.”

“Sorry Ro, can’t. Roses are basic.”

Abby gasps in a dramatic-betrayed way as Mira laughs. Baby tugs on my arm, holding up a black and yellow sweater.

“I don’t think that shade of yellow will look good on you Baby.” He pouts

“There should be a paler version in the back. I remember seeing it when I went here a few days ago. Come on, let's look.” Mira motions us further into the store, over to the left. Sure enough, there’s a paler version.

“Oh yeah, that looks better.” Romance remarks.

Baby smiles, looking back to the front before holding up a finger and walking over. He comes back with a pair of black jeans that pair with the sweater nicely. Mira gives Baby another compliment on the match when Romance brings back the conversation.

“You're on my side about roses right Baby?” Baby snorts

“I told you before that red roses are basic. Sure they’re pretty, but I like Lotus flowers.. Then again they were native to the town I lived in, so I saw those often.”

“My parents had Ginger flowers growing in the garden. I liked sitting on the bench next to them when I wanted to get away from my family or during events, so I grew to like those.” Mira comments, looking at a green shirt.

We share a look after the parent comment. But in favor of keeping the mood, we ignore it.

Mystery POV

Zoey’s looking at some of her merch in the store. And commenting on some of them.

“That’s not the right color. Oh that’s- hey! I never wore that.”

“It’s ok Zoey, let’s just move past.” She’s angrily pouting. Cute.

“It’s annoying when they get it wrong.”

“They’ll get things wrong. That’s fine, just don’t let it get to you.” She scrunches up her face again more for show. Then she spots something

She’s pulling me along again. Ah, she found some turquoise shirts. Is that her favorite color?

“What do you think of this one? I think it’s cute!”

She’s holding an off the shoulder blouse. It’s not her immediate style, but.. “That looks great.”

“You think so? If only there were..” she’s looking around the store. “Aha!” And she found something.

Zoey walks over to the other side of the store, grabbing a shirt the same color as the blouse. It’s a button up.

“Here, does this work?” She’s holding it up in front of me. Obliging, I walk up to the shirt so she can put it against my chest.

“Yes! It looks good. Now we can match.” Ah, so that’s what she was doing.

“Excuse me, can you two move?” Some girl asks in a rude tone.

“Oh yeah, sorry. Just give me a second.” Zoey puts back the shirt she was holding up and grabs one in my size instead.

“Ugh, you’re choosing that?” The rude girl asks.

Zoey looks confused. “Uh, yeah?”

“He won’t look good in that. Actually you don’t look good in that outfit. How can you stand being in public?” Zoey looks taken aback.

Zoey looks cute so it doesn’t make sense why this girl would say that. But considering her outfit, it shows she doesn’t have style.

“I don’t think you’re in any position to give her fashion advice.” I tell this brat. Zoey’s giving me a warning look.

“Excuse me?”

“You’re excused.” That got her gapping. “It’s obvious you wouldn’t understand fashion if it slapped you in the face and threatened you considering you’re currently wearing a shade of yellow and orange that makes her look blanched and burnt.” She’s screeching now.

“What? Did a good fashion sense, AND manners skip a generation for you? Or is this going to pass down onto your kids? If that’s the case, you’d be a prime reason why reproduction isn’t recommended.”

“Bad Saja Boy,” Zoey whispers, grabbing onto my arm. “You don’t need to insult her that much.”

I did probably go too far. But that’s what she gets for insulting Zoey.

Zoey continues to hold onto my arm as she pulls me to the counter with the two tops she chose for us. We pay and walk out, moving to find the next store.

“You were quick. With those insults I mean.” I think about it for a second before I decide to tell her.

“Gwi-Ma was able to get me due to the guilt I felt after manipulating and insulting people. I was good at it.” She stops, pulling me to the side. “I wasn’t in the best position of living. My family were thieves for longer than I had been born. I happened to have a silver lined tongue that allowed me to worm my way into things. After a while, I wanted better, but couldn’t get there. So with Gwi-Ma’s help, he gave me luxury in exchange for manipulating certain people for him.”

“And then he got you?” She looks sad

“And then he got me.” I pull her to continue walking. It takes a few more seconds before I speak up again.

“Ya know, in my demon form, I was cursed with giant fangs. A reminder of the poison I spread. But even now, I have little fangs.” She looks up and I flash my teeth, showing her the sharp canines just slightly too big to be normal.

“I like these a lot more.” She smiles too.

“I do too.”

I spotted a pet store.

“Mystery?” Apparently I stopped.

“Are you looking at the pet store? We can go over if you want.” If my hair wasn’t covering it, she’d see me blush in embarrassment.

I nod and she pulls us towards the shop. Walking inside I quickly lose her to the puppies. A small smile makes its way to my face before I just as quickly join her.

Romance POV

We walk out of the current store as Mira spots another one. This one looks more expensive than the rest. We walk in and she directs us to the side with some clothes she likes.

“You’re wearing eyeliner right Baby?” Mira asks, he nods.

“Where’d you get it? It looks great and at this point, I’m considering buying some myself.” Baby gives a cocky grin as he looks towards me.

“It’s mine. Isn’t it.” I say with a glare.

He gives me a cute innocent look, knowing exactly how to keep me from yelling or lecturing him again for stealing my eyeliner.

“I’ll tell you the brand later Mira. I don’t have it off the top of my head.” She’s trying not to smile.

“That’s fine. Baby steals your eyeliner?”

“Yeah, he refuses to buy his own but still manages to use mine almost every day.”

Baby was about to snipe back when someone else spoke up.

“Mira?” Mira turns around, just barely hiding a sour face.

“Hey.”

“Oh wow, I didn’t think you’d be here.” It looks like a rich kid considering the quality of his business casual clothes and shoes.

“Do you need something? Cause I’m shopping.” Mira doesn’t like this guy. More people flock towards him. Just another guy and two girls.

“No no, I just didn’t think you would be able to afford this place after being disowned.” He said it in a casual tone, but the way he did shows he meant to hit.

“Not all of us are hopeless without our parents.” Her voice is starting to strain. Abby, Baby and I are already looking at ways to get out of the situation.

“Of course the black sheep would be able to. Probably got cut off years before she was disowned.” One of the girls mocks. Faking how Mira wasn’t supposed to hear.

“What did you just call her?” I ask, Mira looking surprised, as if she forgot we were here.

“Oh come on, did she hire you boys? You do realize we’re much better right. How empty are your pockets after hiring these guys?” The other girl scoffs.

“You didn’t answer the question.” Baby interjects, glaring at the girl.

“You mean black sheep?” The other guy asks, “She’s her family’s weirdo, it’s a surprise they hadn’t shipped her off to America to avoid the shame.”

“You have no idea who Mira is.” Abby interrupts the guy. “She’s a talented artist and currently number one in the world.”

“As if. Mira being famous in anything but failing is straight out of a miracle.”

“Ro, Abby it’s fine. They never understand anyway.” I ignored her.

“Have you heard of Huntr/x?”

“What’s with the topic change? Trying to be friends now that you know how hopeless she is?”

“Just answer the question. How about the Saja Boys.” Abby looks like he’s trying to stop himself from rolling his eyes.

“Of course we’ve heard of Huntr/x and The Saja Boys. What, did you expect us not to know the most famous K-pop bands?”

“I’m from Huntr/x. I’m one of the singers and I do all of the choreography.” Mira pipes in. She looks a lot more confident.

“Us three, we’re the Saja boys. Romance, Abby and yours truly, Baby.” They’re gaping like fish. One even pulls out their phone and shows the others, making their jaws drop.

“Come on Mira, let’s get out of here. I’m pretty sure the clothes got cheap the second those guys walked in anyway.” I hold out my hand for hers and we make our way out of the store and down a few more.

“That’s going to get back to my parents.”

“Do their opinions matter to you? Abby asks, placing his hand to the small of her back as Baby walks in front of us.

It takes her a few seconds before she responds. “No.. No they don’t.”

Rumi POV

I’m pretty sure this turned into a date. Actually, I’m pretty sure we all split up into dates with the pink-haired group babysitting Baby.

Jinu and I managed to get him more colors for his currently pink closet and are now relaxing across from each other on a roof.

The tiger and bird joined us. Appearing in a blue portal.

“Those two better not randomly appear when we’re in public.” Jinu laughs

“No, don’t worry, the bird has a sense to tell when we’re away from others.”

“Speaking of which, do they have names?” The tiger knocked over some of the shopping bags while he was walking over to me.

The bird does the most exaggerated and annoyed eye roll I think I have ever seen before flying over and onto Jinu’s hair.

“That bird is so funny.” I say as I move the bags away from the tiger and place it standing upright beside Jinu and I.

“The tiger’s name is Derpy. The bird is Sussie.”

Derpy flops down beside me, leaning into me. “Derpy’s so silly.”

“Sussie’s very done with Derpy’s antics. I’m still surprised he hangs around Derpy.” Sussie flies back onto Derpy’s head. Derpy shifts to allow Sussie to do so without tipping over.

The noise from below is building up. I’d been ignoring it for the most part until screams started popping up. Jinu and I make eye contact for a second before we move to the ledge to see what’s going on.

People are running and chatting about something, all that are running are moving in one direction, but there are still those who are walking and shopping as normal. The only common word I can hear is Saja Boys, which isn’t unusual. This doesn’t make sense. I was about to comment as such to Jinu when I felt my phone buzz.

The text to mine, Mira’s and Zoey’s group chat makes my blood run cold.

‘We lost Baby.’
‘People started screaming about Saja Boys when we realized we lost him.’

“Do you know what’s going on?” Jinu asks, he just finished instructing Derpy and Sussie to bring our bags back home.

“Baby got lost and the fans found him.” Jinu’s face lit up in pure fear.

Baby POV

“I would kill for some sour candy right now.” Mira whines, we just managed to get Abby and Romance to calm down from the stuck up people when Mira got hungry.

“Do you think we can- oh never mind.” Romance huffs.

“What are you- Oh.”

Mira looks over to me, where I’m holding out a bag of sour patch kids to her.

“Where’d you get this?” I shrug, trying to drink from my water bottle.

The bottle’s empty. Which sucks, but I can deal with that. Romance and Abby are here, and Mira. I’ll be fine. I grab a lollipop and pop that into my mouth instead.

“Where in the world did you produce that from?” Mira asks

“We don’t know, and he won’t tell us. Baby always has some snacks and his water bottle on him at all times. He doesn’t have the storage for it, he just has it.” Romance explains, looking tired.

“I swear I’ll figure it out one day.” Abby threatens. Again.

“Threats aren’t threatening if they’re ineffective.” He glares harder at that.

“Can we stop for drinks?”

“Yeah, there should be a restaurant or food stand close by.” Mira spots what she’s looking for and starts walking.

It’s crowded with people when we get there. So instead Abby takes my water bottle to get it filled up. Mira and Romance start talking about Huntr/x choreo so I zone it out.

There’s a store in view with some cute stuffed animals. Glancing at the two, I move towards the stuffed animals to look at the selections. There are some nice ones like a panda or a giraffe. I found a few big ones, a bigger panda, a giant bear.

OMG!! It’s a blue tiger like Derpy!!! All it needs is the tusked mouth and reddish yellow eyes. I’m going to convince Abby to let me get it.

Turning towards where I last saw them, I can see many people around them. It’ll be hard to get to them. I try weaving through the crowd, but I only manage to get myself further away from them. This is annoying.

“OMG! It’s a Saja Boy!” “That’s Baby!!” Fans found me.

I barely make it three steps away from the voices when I get flocked and trapped around fans. Where’s Abby? I can’t help but flinch with the screaming. I don’t have my water bottle..

The lollipop’s not doing anything anymore and the fans only seem to get louder. Can they quiet down?

I don’t know how long I was there for, but the next thing I’m aware of is Abby hugging me. Mira, Romance and the others are here too.

“Are you ok Baby?” Mystery’s got a hand on my back, looking at me.

I hide my face in Abby’s chest. I can still hear the screaming. One of my hands moves up to cover my ears.

“Girls, come on, we need to move.” Jinu’s leading us to an alley.

It takes a bit longer before I feel like I can breathe again.

“Sorry”

“Don’t apologize Baby. We know how it gets.” Romance says, sitting next to Abby.

“Where’d you go?” Mira asks, kneeling next to Jinu, in front of me.

“I saw a stuffed tiger I thought looked like Derpy.” My water bottle is handed back to me.

“That’s ok. Do you want it?” Rumi asks, Derpy moving from her side to sit on my legs.

I look up at Abby. The only one I know I have to convince. He mumbles about how I’m a spoiled baby.

Mystery tugs on my arm, he shows me a black hat he knows I’ve been looking for. I reach out to the bag I know is holding my new sweater with wide eyes. Romance hands the bag to me. Mystery grins when he sees the sweater, taking my hat off to replace it with the one he’s holding.

“Baby, what was the name of the store you saw the tiger in? Jinu and I will grab it.” Rumi asks. I give her the name and they walk off.

Abby holds on tighter, teleporting us back to the house. Zoey’s giggling in Mystery’s arms. “So that’s what it’s like.”

“That felt so weird.” Mira grabs the bags she and Zoey brought with them, tugging Romance along to put them away.

Rumi and Jinu teleport back separately with Rumi holding the stuffed Tiger. She hands it to me, prompting me to stuff my face into it.

Notes:

Baby does have Social Anxiety.

He’s my favorite character!! He’s just super cute!

Unfortunately for him, being my favorite also means he gets tortured or traumatized more or faster. :(
