Chapter 1: Unpleasant summer

Chapter Text

It was fucking hot.

Going outside felt like going willingly to hell and jumping into the boiling lava. The A/C in their house didn't work at all, thanks to the wonderful plumber, who also seemed to be unable to survive this heatwave. If you were to ask someone outside, what they currently felt, the answer would always be "It's too hot outside," which obviously meant terrible. This was no exception for Kris.

"Move your ass," — Susie nudged Kris's shoulder as she approached them from behind. They staggered in surprise, watching as Susie also leaned onto the refrigerator. Kris gawped at her a little bit more before Susie also opened the other side of the cooler and showed her head into the frozen fish. Kris decided to also keep doing that, even though they knew that their head was probably reeking in smell of food. At least it was ice cream.

Of course Susie would put her head in something like fish. It was Susie, after all.

"Any ideas on how to survive the heat?" — Susie looked at Kris through the refrigerator. Her hair was uncombed, face a shade warmer from the heat, although it already slightly dissolved. Susie's expression showed nothing but her being at bliss as she spoke. Meanwhile, Kris shook their head. — "My A/C's broken. Going to my place would be dumb."

"Right.. Fuck, forgot about that. Wait-"

"Susie, someone locked the school. It was my first thought." — Kris interrupted Susie before she could even finish. The look on her face said everything. There really was no escape, because breaking into school would be too energy consuming and they both would probably get a sunstroke midway.. And even if they were heroes, unnecessary fever was quite unwanted.

Sans soon kicked them out of the shop. Not because he cared about the teen's hair getting in foods, but because he guessed that if someone saw them in the refrigerator that probably won't buy from there. That's what he told them anyways, because he probably was too ticked off their laughs.

Now that Kris and Susie were outside, they knew that they probably had nowhere to go. Most of the shops were closed, the diner was full of people they both didn't like. It was also dangerous to sit in the shadow, because it was still hella hot there.

"That moron!" — Susie slammed the door and pointed a middle finger at Sans as he walked away to the counter, possibly grinning. She was immediately blinded by the sun rays, and the only choice the monster had was to cover her eyes. Even though Kris's eyes were covered by their massive bangs, they still closed half of their face with a hat.

"Cover your head, I'm not responsible if you end up sick on the bed."

"You aren't responsible for that anyways, dumbass!" — Both of the teens still decided to go to Dremmurr's house. Yes, it was hot in there, yes, it was also stuffy, but neither of them cared enough. This was probably the only solution they could think of without having to calculate anything.

Once there, Kris realized they would have just gone to the church. It was usually pretty chill there, too. Also the juice was absolute bomb. But it was too late for another suggestion, since they were already putting the key into the keyhole and opening it, while Susie tried to find somewhere with enough shadow for her to not die.

"Couldn't have been slower?!" — Susie grumbled as she rushed into the living room before Kris and laid down on the couch immediately. It was kinda empty without a TV, but whatever. Kris, slightly stunned by their friend's speed, still closed the door almost immediately as they were in and rushed to lay next to Susie, taking off their slippers.

"Knew it was a bad idea to go here. It sucks," — Kris complained as they leaned their head against the edge and put their legs on Susie, who already seemed like she melted into it. She roared, putting her hand on her forehead and wiping off the sweat.

"I mean, I bet you would feel better without that stupid sweater on. Cmon dude, take it off."

"No." — Kris said and then progressed to poke at Susie's thigh with their foot. She tried to take them off herself, but it returned with Kris just kicking Susie with their leg.

"Dang it, stop that you idiot!" — Did the fight end? No, but it got more intensive. Susie also leaned in closer to Kris to grab their legs and stop them from kicking her. They, continuously laughing, accidentally kicked Suz on the face too. Or was it accidental? — "Stop it you fucker! I don't want to smell your sweaty feet?!"

Despite complaining, Susie was also laughing along with them. And while trying to fight back, she thought of a genius attack - since Kris wouldn't take off their sweater and continue to suffer no matter what, why can't she help them? It would be funny to see their reaction.

Suddenly, Suz leaned closer and grabbed Kris by the sweater. They gaggled even more, still trying to punch Susie, yet she didn't move a bit. She just pulled Kris's sweater up, trying to take it off. That's when they also started to fight with arms.

"Shit, stop it!!" — Kris yelled as they still giggled by the ticklish feeling, which made Susie not realize they're serious.

"C'mon, you never take it off! You're just gonna continue sweating even more in that or what?!"

Before Kris would really say anything else, the sweater was almost off. They did get super defensive at the last moment, kicking Susie harder in the gut and taking the chance to put it back on. Suz growled slightly, easing her grasp on Kris. She just realized they were serious.

"I said to stop, okay?" — Kris made a slight facade, looking away and hiding their arms in the cloth. Susie backed up, raising her hands as if she was a criminal. For a brief moment in the fight, she swore she saw red cuts on their wrist. Susie tried to briefly smile, even though the atmosphere wasn't as playful as it was before.

"Dang, okay, sure. Didn't have to kick me so hard though.." — Suz sat on her knees and lowered her arms, looking at Kris as they also sat up and leaned onto the back of the couch. Something was actually wrong, wasn't it?

"Kris, hey, uh.. Do you.. Is everything okay?"
