Work Text:

Salesperson really screwed up this time.
She could've kept her mouth shut, but nooo, she just HAD to ruin everything with an inconsiderate-sounding sales pitch. She just HAD to say something that sounded so insensitive about Sad ENA to Meanie. She might not have said that had she known how much Meanie loved Sad ENA. She might not have said that had she known about Meanie's promise to Sad ENA. She might have anticipated such a... passionate response from Meanie had she known about it. She knew how harsh Meanie can be with her words, but her response from earlier was on a whole new level.
Sitting on the ledge of a building, Salesperson couldn't stop reminiscing about all of this. It was unusual for her to be so solemn, but there was no way that she could smile about it all. She noticed Unnamed, who had witnessed the whole thing go down earlier, in the corner of her peripheral vision, but she didn't bother actually making eye contact with her. Unnamed sat next to Salesperson, and for a little while, it was just the two of them sitting in silence. After some time, Salesperson felt a couple taps on her shoulder. She looked over and noticed that Unnamed wanted to give her... some sort of memory device?
Salesperson obliged, and once she took it from Unnamed's hands...

"I didn't mean [...] it"

Huh!? What was that? Why'd it sound like there were a couple words being omitted?

"I say stupid things without thinking in the heat of the moment."

Are these... memories of words said by Meanie? It certainly seemed to be the case.

"...Why [...] did I [...] do that?"

Okay, there were definitely some words being omitted here.

"All I'll ever be is a meanie. It's literally my name. It's all I am..."

And all Salesperson is and ever will be is... well, a salesperson. But living up to her name was how she got into this mess in the first place.
Salesperson now understood that Unnamed was trying to help by giving her the memory device.

"I was too harsh this time, wasn't I?"

She'd certainly say so.

"I'm sorry I said that"

Salesperson was sorry too. She had apologized during the earlier incident, but Meanie ignored the apology, too caught up in the heat of the moment to care. But maybe now she'd be more willing to accept it?

"I [...] shouldn't have said that"
"Those words [...] flew out of my mouth"

But it was too late to take back those words now.

"I hate myself..."
"This is my fault. It's all my fault. It's always my fault."

And yet Salesperson blames herself instead of Meanie for what happened, feeling horrible about the earlier events.

"I don't like this [...] feeling."
"I don't like how [...] I'm feeling right now and it's all because of [...] earlier."

Salesperson realized that at least some of what was omitted likely contained profanity.
She also realized that Meanie also feels horrible about the events from earlier and cried upon knowing this.

"please stop crying..."

Wait, how'd... It? She? Know that she was crying?

"we're one and the same!"
"WE'RE LITERALLY THE SAME PERSON SPLIT INTO TWO DIFFERENT BODIES!"

Ah. Suppose that made sense.

"you're my other half."

And neither of them could change the fact that they were each other's assigned other half. Sure, Meanie and Sad ENA had a romantic connection, but it's completely different than the connection between Meanie and Salesperson. Meanie and Sad ENA might be together because they're similar, but Meanie and Salesperson are together because they're not. They complement each other like sweet and salty.

"I love you"

She loved her too. Perhaps it was time to confront her again, but where was she anyway? Unnamed seemed to know, so Salesperson decided to follow her. When they finally found Meanie again, she was sitting on the ground facing away from them. Additionally, there were a bunch of branches growing out of her chest that were going all over the place, much to Salesperson's horror. But she went up to her anyway. When Salesperson placed one of her own mitten-like hands on top on one of Meanie's clawed hands, the branches shrank a little. At that moment, they were able to communicate with each other without actually saying a word simply by reading each other's thoughts. And they both had the exact same thought at the exact same time. After all, as previously mentioned, they are one and the same.

"I'm sorry."

And it happened again.

"Please forgive me."

The branches continued shrinking bit by bit with each thought.

"Will you forgive me now?"

A pause.

"...Will you?"

Another pause.

"Yes."

The branches shrank more.

"Then I forgive you as well."

The branches shrank more again, then even more as Salesperson embraced Meanie.

"I'm glad you forgive me."

The branches were almost gone by now.

"I love you, my dearest other half."

The branches completely disappeared as Meanie hugged back, but they had left a hole in her chest from when they grew.

"I love you too, Sales. Even if it doesn't seem like it most of the time."

The hole in Meanie's chest disappeared too.

"You complete me."

The two of them smiled as their embrace grew tighter, both of them seemingly about to cry tears of happiness. Seeing them reconcile made Unnamed smile too.
