Takes Two to Tango

Summary:

37-year-old bachelor Jamie Fraser is convinced to go to a party by his mother. 40-year-old divorced Claire Fraser is pushed to go to the same party by her daughter.

Notes:

A sudden plot bunny inspired by a song, Tango Taas by the Finnish band KAJ. I recommend you to listen to them. Are you going to understand them? No, they sing in their local Swedish dialect. Are they amazing and worth to listen even if you don’t understand them? Absolutely.

Chapter Text

‘I saw the poster for the party at the church and I thought you’ll have fun.’ Ellen Fraser gave the ticket to her son.

‘Och Mam.’ Jamie sighed as he read the ticket ‘St. Anne’s Singles Over 35 Dance.’

‘Ye’re thirty seven Jamie, ye ought to find yerself a wife.’ Ellen said.

‘I’m good as I am Mam.’ Jamie sighed again. He was pretty comfortable with his life. He had good friends, a good job at the family distillery and had no worries about his mother missing being a grandmother, as his three siblings had produced no less than twelve nephews and nieces.

‘Jamie, ‘tis bein’ a decade.’ Ellen said to her son. ‘Annaliese would have wanted ye to go on with yer life.’

Jamie sighed again. ‘I’ll go to yer wee party, but I dinna think that there’s any interestin’ lasses single in this neighbourhood.’

‘Well, ye’ll see at the party.’ Ellen smiled. ‘Let me go and iron yer good suit and shirt. Ye have to look good for the lasses.’

‘Oh, look. That sounds fun.’ 16-year-old Amelia Beauchamp stopped herself and her mother in front of the local community board at the local Asda.

‘What are you talking about?’ Dr. Claire Beauchamp looked up her grocery list.

‘A dance for single over 35s at the local pub.’ Amelia said, checking the QR code in the poster with her phone. ‘You should definitely go.’

‘Absolutely no, Amelia.’ Claire said. ‘I am forty, too old for dances.’

‘Mama, you’re not old.’ Amelia looked for the ticket prices. ‘And it’s for a charity. Consider it a good deed.’ She kept trying to convince her mother. ‘And we’ve been living here for almost a year, you need some local friends.’

‘I have a lot of friends at the hospital.’ Claire answered.

‘People from the hospital don’t count.’ Amelia retorted, while getting a ticket for her mother ‘And also, you need a boyfriend.’

‘Amelia, I definitely don’t need a boyfriend.’

‘You’ve been alone for too long.’ Amelia said. ‘There, I got you a ticket.’

‘No, you don’t.’ Claire said, just as she got a notification on her email about the ticket. ‘Amelia Julia Beauchamp!’

‘Mama, you’ve been working too hard and you deserve some fun.’ Amelia smiled at her mother. ‘And I’m sixteen. I can spend a night on my own.’

‘OK, I’ll go to damn party.’ Claire said, before the pair left the shop.

The party was celebrated at the pub across the road from the church. People were dancing while both Jamie and Claire drank in opposite corners of the bar. Claire left her corner to visit the toilette and on her way back she stumbled against Jamie, spilling his drink all over her. ‘Oh shit!’ She exclaimed. Her breath stopping at the sight of the bluest eyes she had ever seen. ‘Oh shit!’ She repeated, not sure this time of its meaning.

‘I’m so sorry, mistress.’ Jamie smiled, trying to clean the drink from her dress, a sudden heat coming through his spine. She was certainly the most beautiful woman at the party. ‘Let me buy ye a drink, for the problems.’

‘Why not?’ Claire said to Jamie, silently admiring his cheekbones. ‘But I’d like to know your name first.’

‘I’m James, Jamie.’ Jamie answered, giving a quick look at her breasts. ‘And ye?’

‘I’m Claire.’ She answered. Jamie made sign to the bartender and soon two drinks were by them. They talked and spend some good time with each other, sharing soon another round of drinks. Jamie’s personality and the drinks made Claire bold. ‘Do you want to dance with me?’ She asked.

‘I’d love to dance with ye.’ Jamie smiled, and they left for the dance floor, as the band played something with a Latin rhythm.

Jamie woke up the next day, nursing a mild hangover. He wondered how he had got back home as he didn’t remembered leaving the party. Soon became clear that he wasn’t at home, but in a strange room, and even more shocking, he wasn’t alone in the bed, as the woman, Claire, he remembered talking to at the party, was sleeping in the bed too, both of them being naked. ‘A Dhia.’ Jamie said, as Claire stirred and also was shocked about the situation.

‘Where am I?’ Claire said. ‘Oh fuck, fuck, fuck!’ She added as she saw naked Jamie by her and her own state. ‘What the fuck? Did we…?’

‘Aye, I think we did.’ Jamie said.

‘Oh, God. Oh God. Oh God.’ Claire kept saying. ‘What happened past night?’ Claire sat on the bed, trying to cover herself with the bed sheet.

‘I remember us, dancin’.’ Jamie sat by her, on top of the sheet, still fully naked. Claire tried to not look at him and his huge…

‘Would…would you mind to cover?’ Claire asked. ‘Just a bit.’ The image of him, his head buried between her legs, and the feeling of his teeth in her clit came to her head, making Claire feel flustered.

‘Aye, I suppose we must dress.’ Jamie suddenly remembered Claire riding him to oblivion, her breasts bouncing. He jumped off the bed and began searching for his clothes in the pool in the floor, giving Claire some of hers.

‘Thank you.’ Claire smiled at Jamie, recalling Jamie on top of her. “Don’t stop now.” She heard herself saying. ‘Where are we?’ She began dressing, giving a last look at Jamie’s arse, as he put his underwear.

‘I dinna ken, Claire.’ Jamie said. ‘Isna it yer place?’

‘No, thank God.’ Claire answered. Jamie looked around and found a leaflet from the rooms above the pub. ‘We’re upstairs the pub, the rooms they have for letting.’ The image of him, clearing that leaflet out of the table before raising Claire on it and kneeling before her, her legs over his shoulders, came to Jamie’s mind. A phone began ringing. ‘Is that yers or mine?’

‘Oh God, Amelia!’ Claire came out of the bed, still only in her bra, looking for her bag. Jamie felt the heat again, as he got a glimpse of her nipples.

‘Who’s Amelia?’ He changed the topic quickly, before he got a cockstand.

‘My daughter.’ Claire said, finding her bag and letting it drop in the floor again as she got her phone. ‘Amelia!’

‘Where are you?’ Amelia asked directly. ‘I just woke up and you’re not here.’

‘I…I…’ She tried to come up with a realistic lie.

‘Oh, my, God.’ Amelia laughed. ‘Are you with a man?

‘No, of course not.’ Claire lied, but as she did, Jamie smacked his toe against a chair and shouted a explorative in Gaelic. ‘Jamie, shush!’

‘Better if I leave you.’ Amelia laughed. ‘Take your time. And say hi to… Jamie? From me.’ The call ended. Claire soon remembered she was still basically naked and went back to get dressed.

‘So…you have a daughter.’ Jamie asked.

‘I do, she’s sixteen.’ Claire answered. ‘I’m divorced, for over twelve years.’ Claire told Jamie. ‘And you?’

‘I’m just an old bachelor who still lives with his mam.’ Jamie told Claire. ‘She might also wonder where I am.’

‘We really had an interesting night.’ Claire laughed. ‘Not bad for forty and…how old are you?’

‘Thirty seven.’ Jamie answered. He took a deep breath. ‘Would ye have breakfast with me? No alcohol, tho.’

Claire sighed. ‘I suppose I can.’ Claire smiled at Jamie.

Jamie smiled back and offered his arm for Claire, going downstairs where breakfast was being served. They talked about themselves and their lives. ‘Claire…I dinna ken what are ye goin’ to say but…I would like to see ye again. Maybe have a proper date.’

Claire stayed quiet for a few moments, literally seeing, as if in a movie, an angel and a demon discussing the pros and cons of keep in contact with Jamie. But then she decided to let that wall down. ‘Give me your phone, Jamie.’ He smiled and obliged. Claire put her number on it, adding Jamie’s to hers.

They kissed goodbye after breakfast and went home. ‘Look what the cat has finally dragged home.’ His sister’s snark received Jamie home.

‘Leave yer brother alone, Janet.’ Ellen said. ‘So, how was the party?’

‘He came home mid-morning, smelling like a whisky vat in yesterday’s clothes.’ Jenny retorted. ‘Sure he had fun yesterday.’

‘’Twas a good night, aye.’ Jamie answered, while looking at the cup of tea his mother had given to him.

‘What’s her name?’ Jenny went for the bite again.

‘Janet!’ Ellen rolled her eyes.

‘Whose name?’ Jamie kept his eyes on the cup.

‘The lass ye’ve spent the night with.’ Jenny kept going. ‘Are ye seein’ her again?’

‘Claire, her name is Claire.’ Jamie finally answered. ‘And aye, I hope to see her again soon.’

‘God be with ye two, Jamie.’ Ellen smiled at Jamie.

‘Hi, Mama.!’ Amelia happily received her mother, which made Claire even more embarrassed. ‘Good timing, I’ve just put the kettle on.’ She smiled. ‘Let’s take a sit.’

‘Amelia.’ Claire sighed, sitting on the kitchen table.

Amelia poured two cups of tea and sat by her mother. ‘So…how’s this…Jamie?’

‘I’m your mother, not one of your friends’ Claire said.

‘Don’t take it bad, mama.’ Amelia said. ‘I’m happy to see you having some proper fun. You’ve been deserving to have some Me Time for a while.’

Claire sighed again, smiling. ‘He looks like a nice guy and we…like each other and plan to go for a proper date.’

‘Oh, that calls for a proper shopping spree.’ Amelia smiled. ‘It’s going to be your first date in ages. You need to look good, and sexy.’

‘Amelia, goddammit!’ Claire said, but laughed.

Chapter Text

'How about this?' Amelia took a black, strapless mini dress out of a hanger. 'It's says single and ready to mingle.'

'Amelia, I'm forty years old.' Claire rolled her eyes.

'One thing doesn't affect the other.' Amelia joked. 'And it's not like Jamie hasn't seen things already. No need to hide them.'

'Lower your voice.' Claire went red in the face. 'I don't want people to hear.' Amelia laughed and kept checking on the shop.

'How about this one?' She took a red dress cap sleeves, a generous cleavage and an A-line skirt. 'Show some legs, a bit of cleavage, but still cool for a middle aged woman.'

'I'm old, but definitely not middle aged yet.' Claire said, looking at the dress. 'I do like it, and the price is not that bad.'

'Let's try it on then.' Amelia smiled and they walked to the trying rooms. 'Yes, this is the dress.'

'Don't you think it makes my bum look too big?' Claire said.

'You look absolutely beautiful Mama.' Amelia said and Claire felt somehow confident about how she looked in that dress. Claire changed back to her clothes and she and Amelia went to buy it. After that, they went to the salon, where Claire fixed her roots while Amelia added some pink strikes into her hair.

'How do I look?' Claire said, as she was ready to go to her date with Jamie.

'You look amazing Mama.' Amelia hugged Claire. 'Have fun on your date.'

Claire smiled and left the flat, walking to the pub where she had met Jamie and where he was, waiting for her, at the bar. 'A Dhia.' Jamie said as he saw Claire coming, his blood burning with desire. 'Ye look verra bonnie.'

'Thanks, Jamie.' Claire kissed him. 'You look very handsome too.' She passed her hand through Jamies chest and Jamie was barely able to keep his focus in anything but her. The pub owner told them their table was ready and they went to the dining room, where the band was playing. Dinner and a nice bottle of wine was ordered. 'You're so easy to talk to, Jamie.' Claire said as some point, after a sip of her wine.

'I'll take it as a compliment.' Jamie laughed.

'Please do.' Claire smiled and their legs bumped under the table. Jamie apologised, but Claire was in a happy mood and began passing her leg up and down Jamie's.

'Can I say something?' Jamie asked, his face close to Claire's.

'What is going on you mind?' Claire smiled.

'I want ye, I want ye so bad I can scarcely breath.' Jamie said. 'Would ye have me?'

'I do, Jamie.' Claire put her hand under the table, really close to a sensitive part of Jamie's body. 'But where? I'd love to meet your family but not in the way to your bedroom.'

'Aye, I'd love to meet Amelia too.' Jamie sighed. 'But also no' in the way to have ye.'

'Maybe we can get a room again.' Claire laughed, finishing her drink.

'That could work, but Millie, the owner's wife is around.' Jamie said, looking around. 'She's a friend of my sister and dinna want to deal with her.'

'Maybe we can find another hotel.' Claire was just about to look for one in her phone.

'Ye ken, my godfather lives nearby.' Jamie said. 'And he has space.' Claire smiled and Jamie asked for the bill. Once the bill was done, Jamie and Claire walked through the streets, hand in hand. They stopped at a 24/7 pharmacy to buy condoms. 'Damn, I haven done this since I was seventeen.'

'Oh, you had a wild youth.' Claire laughed. Suddenly, the thought that they didn't in fact use any kind of protection that first night crossed Claire's mind, but she quickly dropped it. She was forty years old, as she kept telling herself.

'Ye're about to see it.' Jamie kissed her and they went back outside, walking until they reached a nice building by the local park. 'A Gostidh. Can I go up?' Jamie said through the buzzer at the door.

'What in the name of the devil are ye doin' here at this time?' A gruff voice said to Jamie, but the door opened. 'Jamie, 'tis almost midnight.' Claire laughed as a man with a thick beard and an even thicker accent opened the door. 'And who's the lass?'

'This is Claire, we're...datin'.' Jamie introduced Claire to the man. 'Claire, this is my godfather, Murtagh.'

'Please to meet you, Murtagh.' Claire smiled to Murtagh.

'Pleased to meet ye too, mistress.' Murtagh said to Claire. 'Again, what are ye doin' here?'

'We need a...place to stay for the night.' Jamie tried to explain. 'We don't want to go home, yet.'

'Jamie, ye're fuckin' thirty-seven.' Murtagh said to him. 'Ye're verra old to hide a lass from yer mam.'

'Can we still stay?' Jamie asked. 'Just for tonight.'

'But dinna make too much noise.' Murtagh huffed, and walked to his bedroom. 'And put the sheets to wash before ye leave in the mornin'.' He added, making both Jamie and Claire laugh.

Jamie took Claire to the extra bedroom, and as soon as the door closed, they went to each other with hunger. Claire opened Jamie's shirt as he played with the dress zipper. soon both items were on the floor. 'On yer knees, mo Sorcha.' Claire obliged and soon Jamie was behind her, one hand in her breast, one on her clit and his cock deep inside her. ' Ye have the best arse I've ever seen.' Jamie whispered in her ear, just as she felt an orgasm coming. It was timed with Jamie slapping her arse and grabbing it hard, getting ready for his own release.

'You know, maybe your godfather is right.' Claire said, some time later, as they cuddle in the bed. 'We're adults, we have to come to terms with...you know...do things in our places, no matter who's there.'

'Dinna think 'tis too early to meet our families?' Jamie said, his hand on her thigh.

'Well, we skipped a few steps already.' Claire said and Jamie laughed. 'What's the problem about skip another?' Jamie kissed her and his hand dipped from her thigh until it found her mound. Jamie tried to pin her under him, but she was quicker and soon she was riding him to oblivion. At some point her sat up and began sucking her nipples. Claire lost it and Jamie rolled their bodies so she was finally under him. Next morning, Jamie did as he was told and stripped the bed, putting the sheet and the duvet cover in washing machine before he and Claire had breakfast with Murtagh, who looked over his newspaper and reading glasses, while the couple enjoyed conversation and breakfast.

Two weeks passed, and a date for the formal presentations came. Claire drove with Amelia to Jamie's house, where Ellen had made food for a whole regiment, as all of Jamie's siblings, their spouses, their children and even Murtagh, were joining. Amelia picked some flowers they had bought for Ellen, who opened the door. 'Oh, ye must be Claire and Amelia.' Ellen hugged both women. 'Such bonnie flowers. thank ye.' She added as Amelia gave her the bouquet. Jamie came and kissed Claire, who went slightly red as the whole family was present.

'Ye must be Amelia.' Jamie hugged her.

'Pleased to finally meet you, Jamie.' She smiled.

'Aye, let me introduce ye to everyone.' Jamie took the Beauchamp women to the living room. 'Well, Claire, ye already ken Murtagh.' The lunch went fine. Claire and Amelia fit nicely with the Frasers, Amelia even making friend with Sophie, the daughter of Jamie's elder brother, who was her same age. Jamie accompanied Claire and Amelia home and spent his first night at the Beauchamp flat.

'I'm going to bed.' Amelia announced. 'Should, you know...put my headphones on just in case.'

'Amelia!' Claire went red in the face and Jamie laughed.

'I'm taking that as a yes.' Amelia laughed and left the adults alone, who soon enough, were also retiring to the bedroom, for some alone time.

Few more weeks passed, Jamie and Claire's relationship was sailing nicely, with multiple dates a week, phone calls and the Beauchamp spending more and more time with the Frasers. One morning, Amelia woke up first and began breakfast, while waiting for her mother. 'Mama, are you OK?' She asked, as her mother felt slightly off that morning.

'I feel dizzy today.' Claire answered. 'Maybe I slept weird past night.' She went to prepare herself a coffee, but, as soon as she opened the jar, the smell made her nauseous and she ran to the bathroom to vomit.

'Mama!' Amelia ran behind her, finding her mother sat in the bathroom floor. 'Are you OK?'

'Clearly not.' Amelia tried to help Claire up her feet, but as soon Claire was vertical, she felt like throwing up again. 'Joe and the stupid Thai restaurant.' Claire cursed, while finally being able to get up. She opened one of the drawers to find her toothpaste, and then she saw someone who made her brain go completely haywire. 'Oh, fuck. Amelia, what day it is?'

'Tuesday.' Amelia answered, not sure what's going with her mother.

'No, the date, the actual date.' Claire felt the room spinning around her.

'The seventeenth, I think.' Amelia answered.

'Oh, God.' Claire sat in the now closed toilet.

'Mama, what is happening?' Amelia sat beside her.

'I'm late, I'm really late.' Claire said, her hands trembling.

'Mama, you're not in any way in a condition to go to work today.' Amelia said, still not knowing what her mother was about.

'Not late for work, Amelia.' Claire finally explained. 'I'm late...as in my period is late. Two whole weeks.'

'Oh, shit!' Amelia said, as she realised what her mother was saying. 'You're not saying what I think you're saying.'

'I actually am saying that.' Claire felt her heart going a hundred miles per hour.

Notes:

Congratulations to everyone who guessed correctly where I was going. I don't know, have some chocolate in my honour, I suppose.

Chapter Text

'Mama, you have to go.' Amelia said, as the sat on their car, in front of the pharmacy and cosmetics shop nearby the local Asda.

'I can't do this.' Claire's hands were trembling. 'I'm a doctor, sure I can think of a reason why my period is late.' She was hyperventilating. 'And I'm too old for this.'

Amelia sighed. 'That's it, I'm going for the test myself.' She tried to come out of the car but Claire stopped her.

'No, you can't.' Claire said. 'You're sixteen. I don't want people think it's for you.'

'Mama, it's you or me.' Amelia said, while Claire went back to hyperventilate. 'I'll be back soon. Don't worry what people would say.' Amelia left the car and went to the shop, browsing until she found the pregnancy test, taking a couple of them. She smiled as she gave them to the shop keeper.

'Arena ye too young for a pregnancy test?' The keeper said. 'What is yer mam going' to say?'

'Actually, they're for my mother, not me.' Amelia smiled wider, paying for the tests.

'Keep yer tongue still Laoghaire.' A woman behind Amelia said. It was Millie, the wife of the pub owner. She saw Amelia getting into the car and recognised the woman she was with, the girlfriend of her friend Jenny's brother.'

The Beauchamps went back home where Claire used the tests, leaving them in the bathroom sink while Amelia waited in the bedroom. 'How long has it been?' she said, after just a few seconds sat beside Amelia in the bed.

'Around thirty seconds.' Amelia looked at her watch. They stood in silence until an alarm in Claire's phone rang.

'I can't go.' Claire put her hands on her head.

I'll do it then.' Amelia went to the bathroom to check on the tests, coming out of it smiling. 'Do you remember when I wrote Santa about having a new dad and sibling when I was around seven? I think that Santa lost that letter somewhere in the workshop and just found it.

'No!' Claire felt about to cry. 'They're not..'

'They are.' Amelia gave them to Claire, who's heart raced as she saw the word POSITIVE-7/8 WEEKS in all of them. 'I'm going to be a big sister.' Claire burst into tears. 'Mama, it's OK!'

'I can't believe it.' Claire said, her hand in her belly. 'What I'm going to say Jamie?'

'Jamie is good man, he'll be good with it.' Amelia tried to reassure her mother.

'We've been dating for less than two months.' Claire said. 'It's way too son for having that conversation. What if he doesn't want a child. He's never been married, and lives with his mother. Maybe he never intended to have kids.'

'Mama, breathe.' Amelia said. 'It'll be fine. Even if Jamie doesn't want to have a child. You still have me to support you. I'll be the best big sister for the baby.'

'But I'm so old, so much can go wrong.' Claire felt like crying again.

'Are you thinking about Henry?' Amelia said, hugging Claire

'I am always thinking about your brother.' Claire said.

'That it happened to Henry doesn't mean that it will happen to the baby.' Amelia said, smiling trying to avoid saying something that would give Claire a guess that she happened to know the whole story about what happened to her late brother. 'Everything will be fine.'

'How can you be so good in a situation like this?' Claire asked.

'I learnt from the best.' Amelia smiled and hugged Claire again. 'She's slightly losing it right now, but she's still the best.'

Sometime later, still somehow incredulous, Claire called Jamie. 'I thought ye'd be still workin'.'

'I didn't go to work today.' Claire sat in the bed, listening to Amelia doing stuff around the house. 'I woke up feeling sick.'

'A Dhia, do ye need something'?' Jamie asked. 'I'll be finish at the distillery in half an hour.'

'If you can come to my flat for dinner.' Claire's voice trembled.

'Aye, I'll be there.' Jamie answered. 'Do ye want me to get somethin' in the way? Some wine?'

'No, not wine, alcohol got us here to begin with.' Claire regretted the last thing she said.

'What do ye mean?' Jamie asked.

'Nothing, we'll talk at dinner time.' Claire shook her head and carried on.

'I'll see ye then, Claire.' Jamie smiled, already looking forward to dinner time.

Chapter Text

Jamie walked through the Fraser Distillery corridors when his sister stopped him. 'Jamie, are ye going' home?' She had received an interesting message from her friend Millie, and she wanted to sense the waters.

'No, I'm going to Claire's flat.' Jamie answered. 'She's feeling' sick today and asked me to go.'

'Oh, tell her to be well soon from me, Jamie.' Jenny's senses tingled about how right her friend might be.

Jamie drove to Claire's place. 'How are ye?' Jamie kissed Claire, feeling something was worrying her. 'Are ye still feeling' sick?'

'I feel somehow better now.' Claire tried to smile.

'I'm going to check on dinner.' Amelia smiled. ' You two can go to the living room.' She made a sign to her mother, who took Jamie's hand and made him sit in the sofa.

'I can feel there's somethin' that's worrying ye.' Jamie said as Claire sat by him. 'Is it everythin' well?'

'I have something to tell you.' Jamie worried, he could still remember when Annaliese told him about her diagnosis, and how hard his life was after losing her. And now he had finally found someone he was happy with, the thought of maybe losing Claire too was killing him. But then she said. 'I'm pregnant. I think it happened the night of the dance.' Jamie's brain completely froze. She wasn't sick, she was carrying his child. He stood motionless while Claire talked. 'Jamie, say something!' She finally snapped him out of his trance. He smiled and hugged her.

'A Dhia.' His hand was soon on her belly. 'Are ye sure?'

'I am.' Claire felt somehow relieved that Jamie hadn't walked out. 'I took four test and went to the hospital to call a favour. 'How are you feeling?'

'Happy and proud like a stallion, mo Sorcha.' Jamie kissed her. 'I really thought I would never have a bairn of my own, grateful to God for this chance.' Claire began crying. and Jamie hugged her again, caressing her hair and whispering in Gaelic.

'I was so afraid you'd react badly.' Claire finally said.

'Claire, I love ye.' Claire gasped as he spoke. 'And I love our bairn already.'

'What did you just said?' Claire looked at him.

'I love ye, I have kent for a while.' Jamie said. 'I was just lookin' for a good moment to tell ye.' He smiled and kissed her, something clicking in Claire's mind.

'I love you too, Jamie.' Jamie went for another kiss, the moment being interrupted by Amelia.

'So, how is it going?' Amelia smiled. 'Dinner is ready.'

'Aye, 'tis goin' really well.' Jamie couldn't keep his hands off Claire. 'Yer mam is with child. Ye're soon to be a sister.'

'She already knows, Jamie.' Claire smiled

'So, are we good?' Amelia asked. 'Fully good with everything.'

'We're more than good.' Claire smiled and Jamie kissed her.

Amelia smiled and went to serve dinner for the three of them. 'There is one thing we need to talk about tho.' Amelia said as they ate dinner. 'This flat is small for all of us. There's only two rooms.'

'Oh, God. It's true.' Claire said. 'We might have to move to another flat before the baby comes.'

'Come to live with me.' Jamie said. 'There's space enough in my house for the five of us.'

'Jamie.' Claire tried to say.

'My mam will be good with it.' Jamie smiled. 'More than good, she'll love the idea of havin' a wean around.'

Jamie accompanied Claire to her doctor a few days later, leaving work a bit earlier than usual. 'How's Claire doin'? Jenny came and walked alongside Jamie. 'Is she feelin' better?'

'Aye, she is.' Jamie tried to not show any clues of where he was going.

'Ye didna tell us why ye're leavin' early today, did ye?' Jenny asked, slightly annoying Jamie, who didn't want to tell the family before the appointment.

'I have somethin' to do today.' Jamie smiled. An employee stopped Jenny with an issue at her department and Jamie used that time to escape his sister's clutch.

'Ye're shakin'.' Jamie took Claire's hand on his. 'Dinna worry. Everythin' will be well.' Jamie left Claire's hand and put his arm around her. Claire's name was called and they both walked to the sonogram room.

'Miss Beauchamp?' The technician asked.

'Yes, it's me.' Claire said. 'And this is my...boyfriend, Jamie.'

'Welcome ye both.' the technician smiled and went to get Claire ready for the consult. 'Everythin' looks OK. The baby is a nice size and strong heartbeat.' Claire cried as it filled the room, Jamie holding her hand. 'Oh, that is a surprise.'

'What did ye find?' Jamie asked.

The technician moved the screen, Jamie and Claire could see it. Claire gasped as she noticed. ''Tis two of them. Ye're expectin' twins.'

'A Dhia.' Jamie said, still incredulous. 'Twins.'

'You're joking.' Amelia laughed that evening as she heard. 'We now really need to move.' She joked, but still hugged Jamie and Claire.

That Sunday, Jamie drove Claire and Amelia to his house, for the big announcement. 'So, any idea of why Jamie wants all of us today here?' Jenny helped her mother with lunch. 'If there is a special thin' he wants us to ken.'

'What is goin' on with ye, Janet.' Ellen asked her daughter.

Jamie arrived and Ellen sat everyone for lunch. Half way through it, Jamie took the word. 'Claire and I have news.' Claire smiled. 'Claire's pregnant.' He looked at her. 'We're expectin' twins.'

'I knew it.' Jenny shouted, making everyone look at her.

'Janet for God's sake.' Ellen said to her. The family laughed and the attention went back to Jamie. 'I'm so happy for ye two.' Ellen said to the couple, smiling.

'I also want to ask if you would mind for Amelia and I to move here.' Claire asked Ellen.

'Of course ye can move here.' Ellen said. 'Jamie, I didna add ye to the house ownership for ye to ask permission for the mother of yer bairn to move in.'
