Restoring Hope Cover Art

Green Hills has no shortage of peaceful days under its (admittedly wacky) belt. The sun was shining, the birds were chirping, and an anthropomorphic lemur suddenly swings into an old and abandoned district within Green Hills.

Wait, what?

Yup, it turns out that during a normally chill day, something else is happening behind the scenes, and that lemur is intent on finding out what’s going on here. Judging by how she’s constantly gawking at her surroundings, this must be her first time here in this particular part of this humbly crazy town… It’ll probably be just as exciting as all those times she witnessed Sonic saving the day in Green Hills… Sure, she was hiding in the bushes every time that happened, but that doesn’t mean that his inspiration hasn’t reached her, inspiring her to do the same someday!

As for right now, well… She’s currently exploring around, hoping to gain some experience in some way…

“Wow! What is this place? I don’t think I remember seeing this area before, but gosh darn it if it ain’t interesting!” The lemur commented with much joy. It seems she yearns to check out the world as well…

However, traversing this district wouldn’t be easy, considering no one has bothered to clean up some old debris around the area, leading to unintentional blockades being formed around some roads. Good thing that’s not a problem for this lemur!

“Seems like it’s time for my usual dose of fun!” The lemur proclaimed as she looks over to her extremely bushy tail…which also happens to be prehensile.

As if demonstrating what this newcomer can do, she uses her tail to wrap around some street lights hanging above her, enabling her to build up some momentum via swinging back and forth. Once enough momentum is built, her tail then lets go of the street lights, launching her over the debris blockade.

“Whoaaaaaaa!” She hollered with much joy, spinning around in the sky for a bit until landing on her feet without much issue shortly after.

“Yup, you still got it, Tangle!” The lemur, apparently named “Tangle”, congratulated herself right before dashing off further into the district.

Now, is it just Tangle, or does something seem off with this district? …Besides the fact that it was abandoned, of course. The weather seems kinda off with this area, for starters. Normally, it’s supposed to be a sunny day today, but for some reason, this specific district has some sort of a “cloudy weather” vibe to this whole area. Perhaps that’s because of all the smoke rising from the destroyed buildings and old cars and such…?

…Wait a second, why would smoke be rising from them right now? Sure, this district is pretty dusty and all, but still, smoke shouldn’t be billowing from some cars and buildings right now! Isn’t this supposed to be an old and abandoned part of the Green Hills town, where it hasn’t seen use for years?

…Unless someone else has been through this area recently.

Getting on guard, Tangle rushes through the old streets, taking care not to trip on the unstable bumpy terrain. Chaos knows that she has done that WAY too many times to count.

Anyways, she wastes no time getting to some other part of the district, hoping to get to the bottom of whatever is going on here. It’s a little tricky to see through all this fog-like atmosphere of this place, but soon, she starts to get a better view of her surroundings the deeper she gets into this area…

Soon, her eyes landed on some dilapidated sign hanging over on the side of some small building…and it finally clued her in on what this place is exactly.

Welcome to the Spiral Hills District, the very first district ever for the beloved Green Hills town! Check out the many attractions that will give any visitor a thrill of their lifetime!” Tangle read the district sign out loud before scratching her head with puzzle. “Eh? What does it mean by that? Did this place used to have rollercoasters or something? Because unless traversing through random debris counts as a thrilling pastime, I don’t see much thrills to be had around here…”

After commentating on this, she then spies some small highway in the distance… This highway seems to be following in some sort of a spiral pattern, looping all around until the highway stops at the top level of some parking garage. Huh, no wonder this place is called “Spiral Hills District”…

Oh well, that doesn’t matter much. To Tangle, this just sounds like a fun time waiting to happen! So she zooms through the highway, swinging over any pitfalls (which have been formed due to broken roads) that pop up in her path. Needless to say, this may be the best thrilling pastime she has ever taken part in. Perhaps she might consider making this her new hideout if she can continue to have this much fun…!

“Certainly would be better than some old cramped cave I used to hide out in…” She commented with a small frown, right before that frown shifted into a smile.

“But no need to worry about that now! Because now I’M HERE, crossing over into some new frontiers!” She claimed, feeling the need to shout all this out into some far-off distance as soon as she got to the top level of the parking garage.

Probably not a wise idea to do that when there’s already a possibility that someone else is already here.

And it seems Tangle is about to learn that lesson, as evidenced by someone suddenly shifting around in the shadows of this parking garage. Curse the ungodly amount of cars that happen to populate this particular section of the parking garage…

After sensing that something – or someone – is amidst, due to all the sudden shuffling around in the shadows, Tangle gets on guard once more, remembering her previous theory about someone else already being here before her. Perhaps she’ll finally find that someone… However, here’s the real question.

Is that someone a potential friend…or a dangerous foe?

After thinking this over some more, she decides to go with a gentle approach to this situation. If this mysterious person is a potential friend, then they are likely to be more understanding if she’s being understanding as well. Otherwise, if they turn out to be a foe, then she’ll do her best to dodge some surprise attack and give them a tail-knuckle sandwich!

“Hello? Is anyone there? I promise that I mean no harm!” She calls out towards them, trying to appear as non-threatening as possible, slowly approaching closer to the middle of the parking garage.

Surprisingly, she did get a response. However, that response turns out to be a faint “hmph”, as if they’re not entirely convinced. It seems likely that they have trust issues…

“Hey… It’s going to be okay, I’m just exploring around… As long as you don’t hurt me, we’re cool!” Tangle stated with a thumbs up, approaching the mysterious person once more.

“…”

With a frown, Tangle can’t help but feel somewhat on edge after not getting a response there. On one hand, this could just be someone who struggles to trust anyone, perhaps after some traumatic event…or it could be some enemy that is staying silent for the sake of a sneak attack.

…Tangle’s optimism is telling her to bank on the first theory, so might as well go for that. Because why not? Maybe she might even make a new friend!

So she decides to walk even closer to the middle of the parking garage, hoping to finally get a glimpse of this mysterious resident…

…Only to be greeted with the mysterious person backflipping out of the shadows, finally revealing herself to be an anthropomorphic brown and biscotti-colored wolf girl. She seems to have a mask on… Perhaps she’s still not quite used to dealing with people… Best to be as understanding as possible then.

“Hey… I’m sorry for suddenly approaching you like this. I’m just trying to make sure you’re okay…even though you just met me and all.” Tangle replied sheepishly while scratching her head.

The masked lupine stares at the lemur for a little while, as if deciding whether she should trust her or not…

And then, all of a sudden, she runs off from the lemur.

“Wha– Wait!” Tangle gasped out from shock while holding out her hand. “I’m not a threat! I promise!”

That sure didn’t stop this wolf girl from running…or suddenly taking out a colorful-looking weapon, as a matter of fact. To be exact, that gun seems to be light blue, gray, and black.

“What the…?”

Before Tangle has a chance to comment more on this confusing situation, the wolf girl jumped over the edge of the parking garage rooftop while holding her colorful gun tightly.

“NOOOO!” Tangle yelled out with reflex while dashing over to the edge of the rooftop, dreading to see the results of this plunge…

…Only to see that the wolf girl is holding on to a now-hovering gun, which is carrying her away from the parking garage area. It seems some green alien energy is coursing through said gun… Perhaps that’s the reason why the gun is hovering now? …Ugh, still, how is this happening?

…Well, no time for what-ifs. Tangle cannot let the wolf girl leave her behind like this. She has got to catch up! She spies a few telephone poles nearby, complete with wires hanging overhead in front of her…

“Hey! Wait for me!” She called out while jumping over the edge, using her super long and bushy tail once more to grab onto the hanging telephone pole wires, swinging after the hovering wolf girl. The chase is going smoothly so far, with no one firing or swinging at each other…and thank goodness for that too, because Tangle isn’t sure she would want to fight someone like that wolf girl, not just because she seems like an experienced fighter, but because she also seems like a rather caring person as well. At least, Tangle assumes so, considering the wolf girl hasn’t fired at her yet.

Either way, this proves that she does have some trust within her after all! Tangle just needs to completely get through to her on how she’s not a threat at all, that’s all!

“Excuse me, but I just wanna let you know that I do care about you! Even if we just met! After all, I love making friends!” Tangle claimed as she and the wolf girl both landed on the ground.

Once again, the wolf girl stares at the lemur…and then she quietly sighed.

“Admirable quality… It’s rather unwise to try and befriend everyone though…especially someone like me…”

Tangle’s eyes widened upon hearing this mysterious runaway fully speak for the first time… Sure, it was rather quiet, but she can understand her just fine! Her hearing is super good after all, or at least, according to Tangle.

Before the playful lemur can process this further, the runaway wolf suddenly dashes away once more, leaving Tangle rather taken aback. After shaking off the shock, she dashes off as well, running towards her mysterious acquaintance’s direction. “Hey, I thought we had something there! Please don’t leave me, I’m totally the most trustworthy lemur you’ll ever meet!” She yelled after her.

“Sorry, but I just met you… I’m not ready to trust you yet…” The runaway quietly called back before dashing into a nearby forest.

With a sigh, Tangle runs inside the forest area, preparing for another obstacle-filled chase. Sure, what the runaway just said was understandable…and in a way, she can kinda relate to it. Still, she must show this wolf girl that she’s not a threat at all. After all, she cares a lot for others, and she’s not gonna make this wolf girl her exception anytime soon…!

This wolf girl sure isn’t making it easy though, as evidenced by her immediately jumping back and forth between the trees, effectively wall-jumping between them. Once she reaches the top, she quickly leaps from tree branch to tree branch! Geez, what kind of training does this lupine have…?!

Well, no matter, that’s not gonna stop Tangle! Behold the power of a long and bushy tail!

Using said power, and with the help of some tree branches, she manages to easily swing up towards her possible future friend’s level, trying to get closer to her. The wind is blowing fiercely past the pair, perhaps due to how they’re swinging at such quick speeds. Either way, something has gotta give…

“Excuse me, but why are you running away? Also, cool weapon, by the way! What is that?” Tangle questions her, trying her best to make her voice heard throughout the chase, despite the winds blowing against her, all while doing her best to make small talk with this acquaintance at the same time.

The fleeing wolf grunted with incredulity while continuing her jumping frenzy between tree branches. “Didn’t I already tell you? I don’t completely trust you. I just met you after all.” She answered, a little frustrated that she kinda had to repeat herself there, but she’s maintaining her balance on the tree branches nonetheless. “And by the way, that’s a Wispon.” Welp, at least she reciprocated on that small talk attempt.

“Oh, neat! Gotta get me one of those things someday! Also, that’s understandable…” Tangle had to agree with that point there. Still…

“But even so, I will not let you suffer alone!” The lemur declared as she wrapped her tail around two branches, pulled herself back like a slingshot, and launched herself towards the wolf girl.

“I told you, I’ll be fine–” The wolf girl tried to say right before she got tackle-hugged by Tangle.

“How about a big ol’ hug instead?” Tangle stated, making sure to hold on to the wolf girl with said hug.

Of course, that causes them to lose balance on the tree branch, causing them to slip and fall down towards the ground. However, Tangle is well-prepared for that scenario. She simply adjusted their positions so that she’ll be the one to take the brunt of the damage instead of the wolf girl. After all, she sure doesn’t want to put her possible new companion through some pain, so she won’t mind taking most of that hit. After all, what are (possible) friends for?

Once they hit the ground, Tangle and that wolf girl skidded through the grass, and since Tangle is on the bottom, of course she took most of that impact. It lasted for a few seconds until their bodies skidded to a stop near some…plant? They can’t really tell what that plant is supposed to be, but that’s not their main concern right now. What matters is that they survived the fall! Sure, Tangle may have gotten a few scrapes and bruises, but that’s nothing to her! To her, that’s just a regular Tuesday of exploring around this town and its surrounding areas!

Anyways, Tangle glances back towards the wolf girl. “Are you okay, possible buddy?” She asked without hesitation.

The wolf girl looks back at her, seemingly with mild surprise. “Yes… I can’t help but notice that you tanked most of the fall for me…” She quietly commented, almost in wonder.

“Well, of course I did! I wanna make sure that my possible new buddy doesn’t get hurt!” Tangle replied in the most earnest tone ever. Perhaps it’s so earnest that the wolf girl can’t help but smile a little bit in response…or at least, it seems that way, judging by how she adjusted her mask a little to show off a little more of her expressions…

“…You sure are something else. However, I can’t deny that it was selfless of you to do that…” She whispered before looking down in thought. “Perhaps I’ll start trusting you after all…”

“Wow! Just like that?” Tangle replied with just as much wonder.

The wolf girl nodded. “Yes… It’ll be a gradual process, but I’ll try my best…”

“Yay!” Tangle jumped up with much cheer. Seems like she finally has a new friend! The rest of the day is definitely gonna be peak now–

“Aww, I’m glad to see that you two are already developing such a beautiful friendship. If it were only that easy for everyone else in this world…”

This sudden proclamation certainly caught the two newly-acquainted buddies’ attention. Who spoke just now? And is it them or does this plant seem a little more alive than usual…?

Just then, said “plant” started moving, revealing that it wasn’t actually a plant after all, but instead, it’s a plant girl who certainly seemed like she’s from another planet… She sure seems benevolent though, so that’s good. Still…

“…Who are you?” Tangle and the wolf girl both asked, out of curiosity and caution respectively.

The plant girl nods with understanding. “Right, I suppose introductions are in order. Greetings, you two. My name is Cosmo, and I hail from Seedria.” She introduced herself.

Tangle looks down towards Cosmo with wonder. “Wow! With the way you’re describing yourself, I bet you come from somewhere real important, eh?” She assumed.

“I believe I only vaguely heard about this before… I can’t quite remember where though…” The wolf girl whispered.

Cosmo looks toward the duo. “That would be because Seedria happens to be a planet full of people like me… Before I explain further, however… May I please ask whomever you two are?” She requested.

“Oh, right!” Tangle said as she eagerly bowed. “My name is Tangle the Lemur!” She said right before gesturing towards her companion. “And my new buddy is…” She trailed off upon realizing that even she hadn’t learned that mysterious wolf girl’s name. Well, this is embarrassing…

“Whisper. I’m Whisper the Wolf.” The wolf girl FINALLY introduced herself, to Tangle’s relief. Nice save there, Whisper!

Cosmo nods once more upon hearing their responses. “Well then. It’s nice to meet you, Tangle and Whisper. I believe it’s a pleasure to meet you all.” She responded politely.

“Aww, you’re such a friendly little plant girl! Everyone needs a Cosmo in their lives!” Tangle proudly declared. Leave it to her to make such bold statements right after meeting someone for the first time…

“Oh, is that so? Well, thank you, Tangle. I sure got that a lot in the past…” Cosmo said with a sigh, looking over at the nearby trees pensively, as if remembering an old memory…

Whisper gazes over towards Cosmo knowingly, seemingly empathizing with her there. It seems she has some baggage herself…

Tangle looks back and forth between them with puzzle. “Eh? Is there something I’m missing here or has the atmosphere gotten heavier than usual all of a sudden?” She questioned.

Cosmo can only chuckle sadly in response to this. “I apologize for that. I was just…remembering what happened to me back on my home planet…or at least, what remained of it.”

Tangle’s eyes widened in horror upon realizing some implications of that sentence. Even Whisper’s eyes open up a little more than usual in response to that revelation…

“Don’t tell me…” Tangle said.

“Oh, apologies, then I won’t explain further.” Cosmo replied.

“She was only expressing disbelief, she didn’t mean that literally…” Whisper responded with a sigh. “Please continue on, if you feel comfortable doing so, of course.”

Cosmo nodded with understanding once more. “Right. Okay… Well, as you all know, I hail from Seedria, where there’s many others like me… It used to be so prosperous, so full of life… Basically, it used to be a safe haven for us…”

A single tear ran down her cheek as she recounted the next part of her memories.

“…And then everything changed when the invaders attacked.”

Tangle gasps with horror and sympathy upon hearing that, while Whisper grips her weapon a little tighter…

“It all happened so suddenly… One minute, we were existing as a peaceful community…and the next, everything turned into a war zone, all thanks to these invaders…” Cosmo struggles to hold back some more tears before failing, a whole stream of them flowing down her cheeks. “I witnessed some of my closest companions get killed off by them…while others ended up getting assimilated by them, being forced to join their ranks, all while my home planet is being destroyed by them…”

“No…” Tangle can only let out a soft declaration of denial… There’s no way she had to deal with all that…

Cosmo shakes her head sadly. “I wish denying it was as simple as that…but I cannot…especially since I know that even my mother, sister, and father didn’t make it through this horrific event… Needless to say, Earthia and Galaxina got killed by them, while Lucas… Well, he, along with a few other male Seedrians, ended up being turned into the biggest threat towards my livelihood right now, all thanks to these heartless monsters…”

Tangle grits her teeth with anger. “Wait, so are you telling me that the female Seedrians got killed off by them while the male Seedrians got assimilated to the dark side?!” She asked for clarification, to which Cosmo can only sorrowfully nod. “What the hell…?”

Whisper stares at Cosmo, her expression unreadable as she’s currently in thought about what she just heard…

“…I don’t know if this is a coincidence or not, but this sounds oddly familiar to an invasion I suffered through back on Mobius…” She commented, causing Tangle to look back at her with shock.

“Wait, you too?!” She replied, unintentionally revealing some of her past in the process, with Cosmo looking back and forth between them, silently wondering what’s going on.

Whisper nodded for a bit. “Yes. You see, I used to be a part of a team called the ‘Diamond Cutters’. Smithy, Slinger and Claire Voyance… They all made me feel like I belonged on that team. Smithy in particular has also created this weapon, the ‘Variable Wispon’, for me.” She stated as she held up her weapon. “With all that in mind, I guess we were quite a close-knit group, with how great our synergy was on missions and all…” Tangle isn’t 100% sure, but she’s fairly confident that Whisper’s expression darkened just now upon recalling the next part. “…However, all of that was destroyed when these invaders came over to Mobius…”

“No! Not you too…!” Tangle groaned with utter distress towards Whisper, with Cosmo only nodding solemnly, knowing this pain too well. The lemur couldn’t believe her new companions were suffering like this…

“Needless to say, fighting back against these invaders felt like a suicide mission, but the Diamond Cutters were really determined to protect our past home planet. In a way, their determination did help contribute significantly to our success in defending Mobius from them…but at the cost of their lives.” She then sadly nodded with confirmation. “Yes, as it would turn out, I was the only surviving Diamond Cutters member left after that whole disaster…” She then sighs while crossing her arms. “Needless to say, I have a hard time trusting others these days…and I cannot think back to this event without…thinking of these dreadful memories…”

“Wow… I thought losing my home on Mobius was pretty bad, but after hearing what you two have been through… It doesn’t seem that bad anymore…” Tangle commented with much sympathy towards Whisper and Cosmo.

“Yes… I cannot even fathom the atrocities some of you have been through…” Cosmo replied with a sad sigh.

“I can say the same for you guys… It makes me wonder how we are even alive sometimes…” Whisper stated with a sad sigh of her own, trying her best not to think about it…

Tangle glances back and forth between the two with much concern. It seems like they all share a common issue when it comes to their pasts… One thing’s for sure though, and it’s that their major problems all lead back to these damn invaders. If only they didn’t literally invade their lives and ruin them, they would have led much more peaceful and unbothered lives…and they wouldn’t have had to deal with some serious trauma in the process as well.

Even so, Tangle can’t help but believe that there’s still hope, even if things seem hopeless at the moment…

“Guys.” She started in a serious tone while looking back at her fellow companions. “I’m well aware of how much these guys ruined our lives…but I think we shouldn’t let them win. If we continue to wallow around like this, then we’ll never truly be able to make progress, both on the recovering end and the ‘kicking the invaders’ ass’ end.”

Whisper and Cosmo both look over at Tangle with a mix of skepticism and curiosity. “Oh? How do you believe we would achieve this though?” The former asked, a little more skeptical than the other.

“Yes… Even I must admit that this seems like a rather lofty task…” Cosmo admitted, not completely sure on where this is going.

Tangle looks around in thought for a few seconds. That was a good question, not gonna lie… It does seem like her ideals were rather lofty as well…but since when does measly stuff like “doubt” ever stop her from trying?

“Well, I have always believed that there’s a way to restore something, even if it’s in absolute ruins… All three of us have been through such dangerous invasions, and yet, we’re all here, still living despite some of the negative effects the invasion left us with. Therefore, even a troubled trio like us have a chance to restore ourselves from our broken pasts!” Tangle stated with a hopeful smile.

Whisper nodded, listening intently to her lemur companion’s speech while Cosmo witnessed the speech with wonder.

Tangle then gives them a playful smirk as she continues, sensing an opportunity to do what she had witnessed Sonic and his friends achieve in the past. “…And I believe it’ll be easier to achieve said restoration if we all work together.”

Cosmo raises one eyebrow. “Oh? I’m sensing something within those words…”

Whisper nodded. “Yeah… What exactly are you proposing, Tangle?” She asked.

Tangle’s playful smirk only grew bigger. “Well, I’m proposing that we form an official team together! Together, we can be Team Restoration!” She claimed, showing how far she thought ahead with this proposal.

Cosmo looks down in thought, considering her proposal. “Hmm… Team Restoration…” She mused. “You know… You do make a compelling case, Tangle. I would certainly like to take part in such a noble cause. I’ll happily be a part of Team Restoration, all for the sake of restoring what we lost!” She answered, starting to smile.

Tangle nodded, pleased with her answer. Then she turns toward Whisper. “What about you?”

Whisper, who has been in deep thought over the offer the whole time, looks over at Tangle, feeling unsure. “…Is this truly a good idea?” She questioned.

Tangle nodded. “Of course it is! Together, we’ll be able to help others and bring restoration to everything around us with no problem, including ourselves.”

Whisper lets out a sigh as she looks back at Tangle…and for the first time, Tangle can actually see clear emotion within the wolf girl’s eyes, which is helped by the fact that the mysterious lupine finally took off her mask fully for the first time, revealing that she trusts them enough to fully express herself around them, complete with emotion within her eyes…

…and that emotion happens to be worry.

“…I don’t wanna risk losing you guys…like how I lost the Diamond Cutters…” She said, struggling a bit to keep it together after thinking about it…

However, Tangle decided to ease her concern by reaching out towards her and gently holding her hand, nonverbally telling her that they’ll always stick together, no matter what, and that as long as Tangle is around, nothing devastating is going to happen to them.

In all honesty, Whisper managed to understand all of this through that interaction…and not only that, but she felt genuine connection through that gesture as well…as if this might be one of the closest companions she’ll ever meet in her life…

…At this point, she feels that it’s only right to go along with Tangle’s plan.

She nodded, doing her best to be fully confident in this decision. “…Yes. I accept your offer. I’ll join Team Restoration.” She stated with as much conviction as possible, her voice rising a little bit in volume as a result.

Of course, that gets Tangle squeaking in joy. “Yay! Thank you so much for joining, guys! I promise that together, we’ll bring true restoration, not just to ourselves, but to the world as well!” She confidently stated as she hugged them all together, with Cosmo and Whisper returning the favor.

“Yes! Together, we can show the world what we can do and restore hope among those who need it.” Cosmo agreed with a nod.

“Mhm… It’s certainly working on me already…” Whisper added with a small smile, which feels pretty rare to see from her, but it’s quite a welcome sight, especially to Tangle.

“Yes! That’s a good sign that our team is gonna accomplish our goals in the future!” The lemur squealed with delight before a thought suddenly crossed her mind. “Ooh, wait!” She said right before making a fist and raising it towards them, prompting some confusion from the two.

“…What is that?” Whisper asked.

“Is this some sort of gesture that only the residents of this planet know about?” Cosmo inquired.

Tangle eagerly nodded without hesitation. “Indeed! It’s a power bump, an Earth custom I learned from witnessing Sonic and his friends’ adventures. It means an unbreakable promise.” She explained.

Cosmo’s eyes light up with excitement. “Wow! This truly does seem like an intriguing Earth custom indeed!”

Whisper can’t help but nod with agreement. “True… You know, I believe it’s worth going along with this…” She said while glancing meaningfully towards Tangle as she raised her own fist up.

“Yeah! That’s the spirit, Whisper!” Tangle responded, giving a supportive smile towards the wolf girl, which certainly made the latter’s day, to say the least. Maybe even her week.

“I’m down to try this custom out as well!” Cosmo stated as she raised her fist up too.

“Great! Then let’s go in 3…2…1…” Tangle counted down right before their fists moved forward, bumping together, signifying a power bump of trust and friendship between them.

And thus, they have now officially formed a team called Team Restoration, a team focused on restoring hope and peace within themselves and the world around them. It’s quite a noble cause, to say the least, and Tangle is fully confident that they’ll all be able to achieve it. Sure, there’s likely to be more than a few obstacles along the way, but as far as Tangle is concerned, there’s no such thing as an impossible obstacle. Using the Spiral Hills District as their base, they’ll be able to carefully plan on how they’re gonna achieve their goals with flying colors.

Yup, as long as this trio exists, nothing can truly destroy the hope within them ever again.
