Work Text:

It was a beautiful summer day, the sun was shining, a breeze was cutting through the heat, and they were going to the beach on a family trip. And yet! Wei Wuxian was feeling grumpy. Even A-Yuan’s adorable excitement and his husband’s beautiful face weren’t helping. He was feeling particularly incensed at said husband (this is a lie, he could never be actually mad at Lan Zhan), it was his fault he was feeling unwell after all!

How could Lan Zhan do this to him?! (He had asked, multiple time and with ample enthusiasm). Now he felt like a beached whale, and he was going to look it once he would lay on the sand. Was Wei Wuxian actually mad to be pregnant? No, definitely not. Was he mad that his babies were now big enough to kick at his internal organ and make his back hurt all the time? Maybe a little. Was he mad that he was having triplets? Not really, but he was still going to blame Lan Zhan for all the woes that came with them!

And right now his main issue was the cravings… They were unpredictable, and he couldn’t spend half a day without having them and sobbing about it. Man… People should have told him about pregnancy hormones before he went and got pregnant! (This was his second pregnancy, he just forgot the previous one). At least they’ll have beautiful babies at the end. Three of them… They weren’t going to sleep anymore were they? Damn Lan Zhan’s virility! And damn his own self for wanting that dick raw.

Speaking of… He wouldn’t be able to get it until they were back home… He hoped that at least Lan Zhan had packed some appropriate food for him. And not whatever healthy pregnant people food he had heard about or else he would sleep on the couch! (Or maybe not, the mere thought brought tears to his eyes).

“Wei Ying? Are you okay?” gently asked Lan Zhan, eyes not leaving the road.

The concern opened the water gates. He was now sobbing from the passenger seat.

“No! I miss you!”

“Wei Ying. I’m right here.”

“But you are not cuddling me!” He hiccuped, tears starting to stain his shirt.

“I’ll cuddle you when we are there. I promise.”

“I’ll cuddle A-Niang too!” chipped in A-Yuan. Ah! His little radish! So grown up now!

“You better!”

It took them another ten minutes before making it to the beach. The moment the car was parked, Lan Zhan got out and came to open his door and help him out, before pecking him on the forehead. The least he could do really. After that his dear husband released A-Yuan from his car seat and Wei Wuxian earned himself a toddler wrapped around his leg and beaming at him. He patted his son’s head while Lan Zhan was busying himself emptying the trunk of all their things for the day at the beach.

Soon, they had the parasol planted, the towels laid down in it’s shade, A-Yuan’s beach toys out and the icebox put down. Lan Zhan helped him sit down on his towel before joining him for the promised cuddles. A-Yuan soon doing the same, before leaving to play in the sand the moment Lan Zhan started kissing his whole face.

“Does Wei Ying feel better?”

“Yes… But you stay here a bit longer. Also I hope you brought some of my spicy watermelon, I’m hungry.”

“Wei Ying…”

“I know! The doctor said to be careful with spice! Now gimme!”

His husband sighed, looking at him with warm eyes before turning to fish a glass tupperware out of the ice box and handing it to him. Wei Wuxian beamed at him and gave him a kiss before digging into the watermelon cube covered in chili powder he had been craving regularly since his pregnancy cravings had started. It was also the least weird of them. Probably…

Chewing on his food, and snuggled against Lan Zhan, he watched A-Yuan start to build a sandcastle. The little boy looking happy as a clam, and really focused on his building. Wei Wuxian was really thankful that this beach was private, so they could enjoy family time without worrying about losing A-Yuan in the crowd. He would not be able to deal with it in his current state, at seven months pregnant his emotions easily went all over the place. Thankfully, he had an understanding husband. And spicy watermelon cubes (that barely gave him heartburns, it’s fine).

“A-Niang! Baba! Come look at my castle!”

Ah! Such an amazing little radish they had! Building a castle and showing them his creation! But if he wanted to properly admire it, he would have to put himself through the very undignified act of standing up from the ground despite his belly being in the way. And on sand. Which was very much not a stable surface. So he opted for the more logical solution and pouted with his arms raised at his husband.

“Lan Zhaaaan… Help, your poor wife off the floor! It’s your fault he can’t do it by himself!”

“Mn.”

And Lan Zhan being Lan Zhan, he couldn’t be satisfied with dragging him to his feet, and just had to pull him up in a bridal carry. Leaving him to scramble so he could grab on his husband’s shoulders (the two of them). The only correct answer to that was to kiss him obviously.

“Ew! Smooching is gross!”

Wei Wuxian giggled.

“You are so right little radish! Smooching is a gross adult thing to do! Should we stop kissing you goodnight then?”

He couldn’t stop himself from teasing his little boy. Before backtracking immediately when teary eyes turned up to them.

“No more goodnight kiss for A-Yuan?”

“No, no, no! A-Niang was teasing baobei! A-Niang promise to give you goodnight kisses until A-Yuan is old and wrinkly like a raisin!”

“Mn. Will always kiss A-Yuan goodnight.” Lan Zhan, switched his hold to a one handed one, to pat A-Yuan’s head gently. “Now, I believe A-Yuan has a castle to show us.”

His Lan Zhan was so good with their son! Such a gentle and loving father! He would fall in love this instant if he hadn’t already been head over heels for his husband… Lan Zhan gracefully (somehow), brought them both to a sitting position keeping him in his

lap and resting a hand on his rounded belly. (Wei Wuxian was trying very hard to not think about that hand in other places). They had a sand castle to look at!

It amazingly did look like quite the convincing castle, for something made of sand, sea water and sea shells by a toddler. A-Yuan soon busied himself with giving them a tour.

“Here it’s the gate! It’s magic! It only opens for nice people! And this tower is where the mermaid princess lives. She has fifty-eight pet sea bunnies. They are all very soft. She pets them everyday. She also has a rainbow seahorse, but it stays in his stable, here.” The boy looks back at them every time he shows them a new point of interest, before getting lost in explanations again. “She has a friend. She is a sea dragon. She doesn’t fit inside the castle because she is too big. Like A-Niang with his belly in my bed, he’s too big, we can’t fit together anymore.”

Well… Damn… Thanks kid. Now, Wei Wuxian was not crying. And his son had not touched a nerve and he wasn’t hiding tears in Lan Zhan’s neck. (The hand on his back and the whispered sweet nothings in his ear were great though). A-Yuan didn’t notice a thing and continued weaving tales of the mermaid princess and her friends around her magic sand and seashells castle.

“And the big tower there is the obsertory!”

“Observatory.” Gently corrected Lan Zhan, while Wei Wuxian was finally done shedding his not tears.

“Ob-ser-va-to-ry…”

“Mn.”

“The ob-ser-va-to-ry…” A-Yuan looked at Lan Zhan for confirmation before going on. “It’s where she looks at the stars. I want to look at the stars with A-Niang and Baba too, because they are pretty like them.”

“We can watch the stars at home, tonight little radish. But, maybe we can find some sea stars right now. Do you want to do that?”

“Can we also get seashells? I want to get a pretty one for Bobo.”

“Mn.”

“Yay!” A-Yuan threw his arms up in excitement. “Baba and A-Niang come with A-Yuan?”

“But I don’t want to walk… What should we do Lan Zhan? We can’t disappoint our son!”

“Mn. I will carry Wei Ying.”

“Lan Zhan! I love you so much.”

Lan Zhan ears did that cute little thing where they reddened, and Wei Wuxian couldn’t help but kiss his cheek. His husband was too adorable! Think of his heart Lan Zhan!

“Love Wei Ying as well.”

“Lan Zhan! My heart! You can’t say such shameless things to your pregnant wife!”

“Wei Ying is beautiful, and his heart should learn to take it.”

And, on those words Lan Zhan just stood up with him in his arms, showing off that insane arm strength of his… The audacity! He was going to get horny before they are even remotely on the way back home, if Lan Zhan doesn’t stop being the hottest man alive right this instant! Still, he can’t help grabbing onto his husband’s two (2) shoulders, just to feel the muscle underneath the skin. There is after all few places safer than Lan Zhan’s arms.

“Is A-Yuan ready to go look for seashells and sea stars?”

“Mn!”

Ah! Just like his Baba! They had made the cutest little radish! Surely his coming siblings will be just as adorable…

“Then A-Yuan should grab his bucket. This way he can hold all his findings.”

“Yes, Baba!”

Their son grab his bucket (the one with a bunny printed on it) and lead the way! Lan Zhan follows still carrying him around. They stop every few steps so A-Yuan can examine his surroundings for the seashells he wants. The buckets fills slowly, A-Yuan being meticulous in his choices and carefully examining every shell he picks up before deciding whether or not he will keep it. Wei Wuxian already know that they will still end up with more than they know what to do with but it’s fine, they’ll just have to find some arts and craft projects to do with it.

“Look A-Niang! Look! That one is the same color as Baba’s eyes!”

A-Yuan was holding a really pretty golden spiral seashell, it would make a nice pendant, either on a necklace or an earring.

“That it is little radish! What do you think A-Yuan, should we make a gift for Baba with it?”

“Mn!”

“A-Yuan should also find one for A-Niang. It is only fair that Wei Ying also gets a gift.”

“Yes! A-Yuan will find one! And also one for Bobo! I can’t forget, because Bobo was busy and he was sad to not come to the beach!”

Wei Wuxian privately thought that his brother-in-law likely just wanted to avoid seeing him and Lan Zhan being all lovey-dovey. He didn’t doubt that he was sad to miss A-Yuan hang out time though.

“Go on then! Let’s find the perfect seashells!”

It took them a whole hour to collect everything to A-Yuan’s satisfaction, and after that their little radish was tired and they decided it was time to pack up and go home. To be fair, Wei Wuxian was feeling exhausted as well.. He was probably going to join their son in a car ride nap. The fatigue had been worth it. They had collected a few pictures, lots of seashells and precious memories.

Notes:

I wish you all a nice summer!
