Chapter 1: Prologue
Chapter Text
Sol 1:
Mars colony has detected an extraterrestrial object passing through the system with a 3% chance of colliding with Earth. It should be of no concern, but monitored in case of any update.
Sol 4:
Mars colony has lost sight of the object. We are unsure why, but we are attempting to relocate.
Sol 9:
Object has been relocated but has been discovered on a new course now with a 15% chance of Earth collision. Countermeasures for object redirection are being prepared on both colonies.
Sol 11:
The object was misidentified and is now believed to be an extraterrestrial ship with intelligent life. Attempts at communication have been unsuccessful, and its course is now directly aligned to approach Earth. With intentions unknown, it's advised for colonies to prepare for the worst.
Sol 15:
“The nemesis” has established contact and says they come in peace and are simply in search of a group they call “the autobots”. They have requested to land on Earth. Mars colony will keep a watch for any more ships and be prepared to send help if Earth requires it.
Sol 16:
Something has gone wrong, but Earth is still investigating. Shortly after the aliens were deemed hostile, something happened. We are unsure if this was our doing or someone else's. Unrelated, a tragic accident has made the Tron project no longer viable for mass transportation. Other ways of moving people from the Earth colony to the Mars colony must be explored.
Day 1:
Permission for use of the grid program has been given. In honor of the popular game made by the same creator, we have nicknamed this project Project Tron. The nerds in the office are very pleased.
Day 2:
Sending test programs into the grid has already given us promising results. The digital space in which the grid exists could hold hundreds to thousands of people for Earth to Mars transportation.
Day 5:
Construction of the laser from the original grid program was successful, but its energy use was inefficient and would cause the bridge of information from the outside world to the grid to be cut off after a few days. Adjustments are underway.
Day 9:
We have successfully repeated the experiment of uploading an orange to the grid. The need for large amounts of power cannot be avoided and keeping the device on to long causes a power surge that can cause harm to the system.
Day: 12
The successful integration of a person into the grid has been successful. Not only that but retrieving them was also a success. Now working on the ability to upload multiple people at a time for max efficiency.
Day: 16
Project Tron has been shut down. While testing integration for multiple people, we experienced a massive surge of power that resulted in the detonation of the equipment, claiming the lives of three of our scientists. No further testing with the grid will be permitted.
Cycle: 1
Chapter 2: The Grid
Chapter Text
“STARSCREAM!”
“Ehe, yes, lord Megatron?” Starscream knew that by the tone, he was somehow getting blamed for their predicament and while Megatron didn’t look like Megatron with his now very human-like features he wasn’t any less intimidating.
“You said the humans weren’t armed with any weapons of mass destruction!”
“Yes, well, none that picked up on Soundwaves scanners. Really it was him who failed to detect-”
“Yes but I sent you, and as my second in command, you have failed me.”
“I didn’t intend to my liege! Besides, how can we know this wasn’t the Autobots doing-”
Starscream found himself out of air and on the ground. He scrambled to his feet already quite used to Megatons thrashings. However this time he wasn’t so sure Megatron intended to show mercy.
“Ehe…” Starscream looked around, wringing his hands. Hands? Yes it seems he has those now. That is a dilemma for later. Right now it seemed no one was going to defend him which left him only one option.
“Well it seems like I’m not wanted so I’ll just head out.” Running as fast as he could, that was his only option. He couldn’t out strength megatron but he could outrun and outmaneuver him any day.
“Soundwave make sure he doesn’t try giving valuable information to anyone who may be seeking it”
Starscream didn’t think he had ever run this fast. He had to hide and figure out a plan. He couldn’t outgun or outman megatrons army and worse Megatron probably sent Soundwave or Shockwave to snuff his spark. He wasn’t sure what the human weapon had done after all they were in an unfamiliar place and he already saw what Megatron had been turned into. If he’s equally as soft and squishy he’s extra screwed.
Before he had more time to self-wallow a spotlight came from above and the ground fell away around him until he barely had room to stand on a piece of land that was now surrounded by cliffs.
“Halt program”
“Program? Do you know who I am?!” The strange ship descended closer to him and with it two frighting looking guards with weapons that clearly were made to hurt. When they grabbed him he figured it was better to cooperate. He wasn’t so sure about that decision once he was brought to stand next to others and locked in place with some restraint.
“I think you may have the wrong bot. I’ve come to help the humans! I’m on your side!” He got no response or reaction from the guards or even the other prisoners.
Being in the air allowed for Starscream to have a better look of where on Earth he ended up. It was dark everywhere so it must’ve been night. There were buildings of all heights and traffic down below. Just about everything had a neon accent to it which was almost beautiful if it didn’t feel cold and devoid of natural color.
He only got to look around so much before they landed and thats when the guards begin to approach each prisoner.
“Rectify” What on earth did that mean?
“Rectify”
“Games” Oh another ominous option.
“Rectify” Starscream was next.
“Games” Well I guess he was going to find out what this meant. Maybe if he was lucky it was something simple like a round of lobball. However this didn’t look like the place where such childish games were played.
Starscream was now being dragged somewhere new but before he could demand answers he was yet again locked in place by another restraint. The guards backed away and he suddenly was plummeting down but not fast enough to cause alarm. Clearly he was being transported somewhere new for whatever this “Games” was.
The platform finally slowed to a stop and he was now in an empty room. No scratch that there are others but they’re in odd pod-looking things. That was until the strange pods opened, and he was now being approached by four people with no idea what their intentions with him were.
“What are you doing?” They each held out their index finger which seemed to glow. Oh Primus was he going to be tortured? But no they just lasered his clothes off? Did they want it for some reason? They looked clothed enough themselves. But after they finished a new outfit seemed to materialize onto him. They then walked away only to return with what looked to be a frisbee. The clicked it onto the suit on his back before backing off to return to the pods.
“Wait where am I being taken? What is going to happen to me!?” But he got no response just silence. Thats when guards entered and dragged him somewhere else. On his way he caught a glimpse of what looked to be motorcycling. Was that one of the games? He wasn’t much for wheels himself but at least it’d be somewhat familiar.
Starscream was basically dragged down a long hallway before they stopped at what seemed to be a small cell where there was already someone. Was he not even to get his own cell? Before he could complain he was basically tossed in.
“WAIT LET ME OUT! I DON’T BELONG HERE! I’M NOT A PROGRAM!” Begging sometimes worked but not today. He flopped down almost considering crying if it wasn’t for the other person in the cell.
“Wait so you’re not a program? Oh thank god! I’m not a program either! I’m Viktor and I’m afraid I might be the reason you’re in here.” Viktor walked over and sat next to Starscream.
“Are you hurt? The power surge seemed pretty bad and-”
“Wait how would this be your fault? Isn’t this some sort of containment weapon?”
“Oh no no this is the grid. Its a digital landscape. We were running experiments with it because it has the ability to have thousands of people inside but only need so many servers on the outside running and storing all the data. It would revolutionize transportation. Everyone would be safe inside and the space needed to move mass amounts of people would be reduced significantly. Only problem is the time it takes to get everyone in. If it was done one by one it’d take far to long so we were hoping to go in as a group but It seemed it malfunctioned. However I don’t think I know you.”
“Well, it seems your malfunction had a wide reach. Me and my friends got stuck down here.”
“Shit. Are your friends okay?”
“Ah yes I’m sure they’re fine.” He didn’t know how much this human did and didn’t know so he figured mentioning Megatron was not the best idea. “Do you have any idea what the games are?”
“I’ve heard from the programs here that its essentially a death sentence but you fight each other to the death to amuse a crowd. So its a very bad thing and we should avoid it if at all possible.” Starscream stood up and paced around the small room.
“You’re telling me we’re going to die fighting others to the death?” Viktor stood up and stretched
“Absolutely not. I’m saying you and me need to stick together and kick ass until we see a chance to escape. Our odds got significantly better when we got placed together.” Starscream didn’t like the idea of fighting, especially not when he was as fragile as a human. He hadn’t even had a chance to see his reflection to know what his beautiful face now looked like. But this human was right. Besides, maybe they could be useful to him after all, maybe they can help him hide from Megatron.
“Alright, I’m listening.”
Chapter 3: Deadly Pickleball
Notes:
Not that I think many will read this but I apologize for the delay. Chapter 2 was supposed to be like the day after chapter 1 but I have the attention span of a shiny spoon. But here it is. Chapter 3 and 4 should hopefully be quick to come out as well.
Chapter Text
“So I’ve heard from the others that there is three stages of games. If you survive one then you move onto the next one. You’re only chosen for games if they think you’ll survive long enough to be entertaining.”
“Reminds me of the gladitory arena.” Starscream had heard a decent amount about the gladitory arena from Megatron. From what he heard its not a place he ever wanted to find himself in. “Whats the first game?”
“Well its like pickleball if pickleball had the stakes to get you killed.” From what Viktor had heard the first game wasn’t any fun and it only got worse from there.
“Pickleball?” Starscream had heard of a few human sports but he couldn’t even begin to fathom what occurred in a sport called Pickleball.
“Yeah um I don’t think I can explain it any better and we’ll have to see for ourselves.”
“How long have you been here?”
“Long enough I had time to sleep once. Apparently they need a certain amount of people before they can start the games otherwise they’ll run out of people before the final game.” Starscream continued to pace in the cell. He already had to worry about whoever Megatron had sent after him but now he had to survive multiple games designed to have many casualties. He didn’t like his odds but he has survived on his own before. In fact he wasn’t quite on his own perhaps this human would be open to an alliance.
“Well then Viktor it seems if we want to survive its best we work together.”
“I agree, if we work together we can look out for each other and find a way to escape when we’re not trying to survive.” Viktor held his hand out to Starscream obviously looking for a handshake to symbolically seal their alliance. Starscream hesitantly reached his hand out and shook Viktors hand. “By the way I never got your name.”
“Oh yes its Star-” Actually saying his real name might be a bad idea. After all he doesn’t know how much he can trust Viktor.
“Star? Are you a stripper or were your parents just hippies?” Viktor was hoping some humor would help him better befriend his new companion.
“Uh parents were whatever you said.” Starscream wasn’t sure what a stripper or a hippy was but whatever would get Viktor to ask less questions.
“Fair I mean its not a bad name just an unusual one. Maybe they saw you and just figured you were so beautiful they had to name you after one of the most beautiful things in the universe.” While Viktor was partly saying that to make up for his previous comment he also genuinely mean it. Honestly Starscream was one of the prettiest guys Viktors seen in a while.
“Yes perhaps that was it.” Starscream wasn’t sure how beautiful he was now that everything that made him beautiful had been taken away. In fact he still hadn’t had a chance to see his face and assess the damage. But it didn’t hurt to hear that his current form was at least attractive by human standards.
Before any more small talk could be made, the cell door was opened and guards grabbed Starscream and Viktor to take them to the first game.
“Unhand me! I’m cooperating, no need to be so rough!” Starscream hated being manhandled like he was some lowly prisoner. He was Starscream for Primus sake! The rightful heir to Megatron the future leader of Decepticons! Not that any of that mattered to these people but it should.
The two were brought to a room that had a giant window that basically covered the length of a wall and it was filled with others. Though by others Starscream could only assume that they were programs. Whatever that meant.
Through the window they could see what could be assumed as the first game. Two people stood on two separate platforms surrounded by void. Each platform made of rings like a dart board. Each person also held what looked like an ice cream scooper if the scooper part was elongated. They were bouncing a light back and forth to each other just like pickleball but when one player failed to catch it and it touched one of the rings of the platform, the whole ring disappeared, leaving more room to fall into the void. This continued until one finally hit the ring in the middle causing the other to fall to their death. This meant that at least half of the unwilling participants were expected to die. No wonder they needed so many. If all games were like this the number would go down fast.
Starscream felt nervous. Yes he was good at surviving but this? He barely survived Megatron and this was designed to kill people. Before he could overthink more a gentle nudge came from Viktor.
“Hey we’ll be okay. Do you need a hug?” A hug? Absolutely not, he did not want squishy arms around him.
“No I’m fine. Just thinking about the best strategy to win.” He also didn’t want to be thought of as weak. He is Starscream! A seeker! A survivor! He doesn’t need hugs.
“Play aggressively with big exaggerated movements that seem obvious and easy to predict. Then fake them out and try to get them in one shot. Playing dirty is the best way to do it. Also the faster you do it the less time they have to think about what you’re doing.” At first Starscream was startled as he didn’t take Viktor for someone ruthless or cutthroat but when he listened more to the tone, it was obvious Viktor was simply trying to look for Starscream and himself. Even though they didn’t know each other very well they’d already formed a bond that heavily relied on both their survival. No reason to dwell on things they can’t change and people they’ll be forced to fight.
“What if we have to fight each other?” While Starscream didn’t like the idea of losing an ally if it was him or someone else he’d always choose himself.
“I don’t think we will be. They want us to fight each other so putting those who were put in a cell together to fight might cause a stalemate. Plus if they are separated and one is killed thats less that know each other that can try to team up and rebel.” That was a bit of a relief. “It looks like they’ve begun the sorting process. I’ll see you once the game is over.”
Guards sorted everyone with a simple 1 or 2 system. Starscream got assigned 1 and Viktor was assigned 2. However much to Viktors prediction they weren’t assigned to fight each other. However, they couldn’t see each other when they were set up on their separate platforms. So they wouldn’t know if the other survived until the very end.
Starscream looked across to his opponent. Neither of them seemed to be in possession of the light required for the game so it was simply a matter of waiting until they were given it.
The light came down from the ceiling and went to Starscream. How fitting that he got the first throw. He used the scoop looking thing and threw it to bounce over to his opponent who unfortunately caught it. How annoying. It continued with a back and forth that seemed oddly repetitive. So Starscream started hitting back the light faster and getting more aggressive. His opponent now struggling to keep up. He was able to hit his opponents outer ring but he got to absorbed in his minor victory that he allowed his center to get hit. Now he had to really watch where he stepped.
Back and Forth
Back and Forth
Back and Forth
Would every game be this Boring?!?
Eventually he caught his opponent off guard and as they fell he got to see what actually happened. He thought they would fall out of sight but instead they fell a bit before just disintegrating into the air. Is that what death means there? Or is that specific to programs? Regardless he had won as he expected and it was time to see if Viktor had survived as well. As he was escorted back to the room he didn’t see Viktor which caused him to worry- Worry? Absolutely not. He simply liked his odds better with Viktor than without. He wasn’t worried.
As he waited in the room more and more people returned and finally Viktor came back.
“Star you’re okay! I was worried. Not that I didn’t believe in you but I worried for my own life to.”
“Yes well I knew we’d both make it. After all we’re not simple programs or whatever they assumed we were.” Starscream did not know they’d both make it but he has a reputation to uphold.
“Unfortunately this was only the first game. It also looks like they’re preparing to move us straight to the next game which means we don’t get a moment to rest.” Viktor sighed clearly not ready to move on.
“We’ll just have to keep winning until we get to the top. Or until we can find a way to escape from this madness.” Either way once he got out he’d have to deal with other problems but that was a future issue.
“If I see a way out I’ll make sure we both get out together. Its the least I can do for getting you into this mess. Though I didn’t intend to cause the problem with the system.” While Starscream could blame he’s had his fair share of times where an accident occured while he was invovled and it all got blamed on him and it always felt on unfair.
“You couldn’t have known so don’t take it to hard. But I will hold it against you if you die before you can get us out of here.” This got a laugh from Viktor.
“Well then I’ll hold you to the same standards.” Starscream wasn’t intending it to be humorous but he found it oddly comforting that Viktor was still quite cheerful.
They were now being led to the next game which at first Starscream thought it was related to what he saw earlier but upon seeing no Motercycles was at a loss for what it could be. However one thing was certain it would be far more dangerous.
Chapter 4: Disc Wars
Chapter Text
This time they were brought to something that even looked like an arena. There were crowds in large stadiums that made the last game feel like a trial round. Worst of all in the center was this almost glass looking prison with multiple layers. The stakes felt far higher with more eyes watching and closer quarters. Guards began to separate everyone by the same 1 or 2 system as earlier. This time Starscream and Viktor were sorted into 1.
“Star I’m not so sure about this one.” There was a slight tremor in Viktor's voice. His eyes looking around for any escape route.
“We don’t have much of a choice, besides if it's another 1v1 then we simply have to be better than our opponent.”
“I don’t think it's as simple as that.”
“What makes you say that?” Starscream realized that ever since they saw where they’d be Viktor had gotten far more nervous. What was it about the glass prison that freaked him out so much?”
“Have you ever played a rock-paper-scissors tournament?”
“Rock paper scissors?” Another human game Starscream wasn’t familiar with.
“Okay well what I mean is that at first they pair everyone up for the first fight. Then all the survivors get paired up and fight again until there's only one victorious person. The place where we’re supposed to be in next at the top it has many rooms but at the bottom it only has one.” Starscream understood Viktor's fear now. With this system if they both kept winning at some point they’d have to face each other and make a choice. Refuse to fight and risk facing consequences or fight to the death. Was Starscream willing to risk refusing to fight? He barely knew Viktor but he didn’t want to go on alone. Yes that was it that was why he didn’t want to fight Viktor. Being alone was dreadful. He’s done it before but it's lonely and part of the reason he always went back to Megatron. Viktor may be a squishy human but he was certainly kinder than Megatron. Kinder than a lot of bots he's met actually. Plus even if he did escape he certainly couldn’t deal with Megatron on his own. He needed Viktors help and he was used to taking risks.
“There are more options we just haven’t thought of them yet. Maybe we can find a way to get weapons.” If only he could transform he could just fly away! Being grounded all the time was suffocating.
“Okay well if it comes down to it know that I think you’re really nice and if we weren’t stuck here I think we’d be good friends. Not that I don’t think we’re already friends. We’re friends right?” Friends? With a human? Starscream considered saying no but Viktor was more likely to cooperate with him if he said yes. After all when the issue with Megatron comes up Viktor might be willing to take his side if they were friends.
“Yeah. Friends.”
“I’m glad.” Before Viktor had the time to say more they were escorted to the top of the prison where they were separated and each were put across from their opponent. Due to the nature of the prison they could still see each other but it was best if they focused on their survival.
The air was thick with tension as the last people were put in. This time they hadn’t been given anything to fight with perhaps it was simply strength? Starscream saw Viktor get into a fighter's stance with his fists raised. Starscream did his best to mimic Viktor as he wasn’t used to fighting. That was until his opponent took off the disc thing attached to his back and activated it. Wait the thing on his back was a weapon this whole time!? Starscream scrambled to grab his disc and activate it. How was he supposed to use it? That question was answered as soon as his opponent threw it at him. He ducked and watched it bounce around the walls before returning to them. Well here goes nothing. Starscream threw his disc as hard as he could and his opponent dodged but by pure luck when it bounced off the wall it got them from behind. They disintegrated like last time. Looking to Viktor he saw that he’d also won his match. That’s good.
A voice could be heard saying “next round” then the prison began to change and warp bringing the next opponent. This time the opponent threw their disc at Starscream's feet which caused him to jump back. Just in time to because the ground broke and now there was a hole right where he was just standing. Two could play at that game.
He was able to quickly win the second round. And the third round. And the fourth. Each time checking to see how Viktor was. How much longer would he have to do this? The constant echoing of a mechanical voice saying “Next round” was getting tiring.
But the fifth round was the one most dreaded. He had been paired with Viktor and while he had decided he needed Viktor he wasn’t so sure that Viktor wouldn’t choose to betray him. He didn’t have to wait in suspense too long before Viktor put away his disc and held his hands up as an obvious surrender. Starscream mimicked the gesture but made sure to look around ready to pull out the disc at the first sign of danger. The crowd began to boo and the mechanical voice spoke up again.
“Forceful stalemate. Vote initiated.” Vote what vote? “Cheer for extermination.” The crowd roared. “Cheer for promotion.” The crowd cheered again. Starscream couldn’t tell which one had been louder but he certainly wasn’t going to go out without a fight. “Vote complete. Promotion will be granted.” The glass cage yet again warped but this time it put a wall in between Viktor and Starscream.
“Star!” Viktor rushed to the wall and immediately tried using his disc to break it but to no avail. Humans and their emotional responses. Though Starscream couldn’t deny that it brought an odd sense of satisfaction to see Viktor try to rush to his aid.
Guards came to presumably take them to the next game. Starscream considered fighting his way out but he was outnumbered and besides he wasn’t sure how to even leave this place.
“Last game right?” He called out to Viktor as the guards came in and decided they were allowed to manhandle him. Again.
“Yeah! And we’re gonna win and show these fuckers who they’re messing with!” Viktor was showing his distaste for being handled with a lot more physical retaliation. However once the guards got a good grip Viktor stopped trying as he knew when he was beat.
It was now time for them to play the final game.

Chapter Text
As the guards dragged Viktor and Starscream to the next game exhaustion was beginning to set in. Starscream had barely had a moment to rest since getting here and Viktor was but a squishy human and squishy humans had limits. Just one more game, then Starscream could find a way out of this dreadful place.
This time, it was another arena, but it was entirely open with no prisons or platforms in sight. However still surrounded by stadiums filled with people. How obnoxious.
Starscream and Viktor were lined up with four other prisoners next to them. Then, in a separate group, another six were lined up, but they looked like the guards. A team game? That would be a first.
The guards then walked up to each of the twelve people, giving them a cylinder. Was this a new weapon? What else could it be?
Before more pondering could occur, the assumed rival team all sprinted forward, then jumped, holding out the cylinder in both hands. It then changed the form of a motorcycle, and they took off speeding into the distance. No explanation about the game, just straight into the thick of it.
Then the four on their team sprinted forward and mimicked what the others had done. Starscream looked to Viktor, who was already looking back at him. They shared a nod before running forward themselves. The feeling of the bike being formed around him, then going fast enough to fill the wind on his face. He’s used to going fast in the sky, but with this new form, things just felt different and more alive. He could almost understand why a Decepticon would willingly choose a vehicle mode over something with flight capabilities. Starscream would almost say he was enjoying himself.
A horrible shattering sound followed by a crash. Starscream hadn’t noticed it before, but the motorcycles had trails of light behind them, and an enemy had just steered in front of one of his teammates, and when they crashed into the trail, they disintegrated. It wasn’t a race but yet another battle. He narrowly got out of the way when the same enemy tried the same trick with him. Now that he knew the game, he could win it.
He watched his opponent carefully, and when they tried to swoop in front, he was able to go to the side and cut them off, causing them to crash. Now it was 5v5. The ground flipped underneath Starscream, and he found himself underneath the road, looking up where others were driving on top. What in the Allspark was this?
Above, he saw two enemies trying to trap one of his teammates. To his luck, the ground flipped back up and he got two in one go. A 5v3 should be easy peasy. Until he looked around and realized that the rest of his teammates, besides the one he saved, were gone. Looking back to his relief, Viktor was the one left standing with him. A 3v2 wasn’t the best odds. But after seeing the move, the enemies tried to pull, maybe him and Viktor could do the same.
“We gotta team up to trap them! Working together makes it harder to pick us off!”
“That's a great idea! Also, thanks for saving my ass! I owe you one!” When was the last time Starscream had heard that he had a “great idea” and it wasn’t meant sarcastically? How could Viktor be so nice to someone he knew nothing about? As much as he could question Viktor having ulterior motives, Starscream would have figured something was fishy by now. Were all squishies this selfless?
More thinking had to be done later as Viktor and Starscream managed to successfully trap one, making it a 2v2.
“WHOOHOO! WE’RE WINNING!” Viktor laughed. How could he be so excited with his life in danger like this? Humans are so odd.
The next opponent was almost in their trap before the second one intervened. Suddenly, Starscream found himself on the ground out of breath, forcing himself to sit up. He had been knocked off his bike, but much to his luck, he was still alive. However, that may change with the enemy circling back to finish what they started. But they weren’t the only one going back for him. Viktor had also turned around, and it was now a race of who got their first. Actually, why was Viktor going back for him? Sure, Starscream had saved him, but it also benefited himself. There was no benefit for Viktor to try to save him. If anything, it was a huge risk that could end in them both being dead. Megatron would have left him for dead.
Lucky for Starscream, Viktor got their first and quickly grabbed and pulled him onto his bike. Starscream hastily wrapped his arms around Viktor. His head hurt, and he just wanted to get out of here.
While Viktor had swooped in to save Starscream, this had caused their opponent to crash, but this time into the wall, causing an opening. An opening they could escape through. Finally!
“HELL YES, TIME TO GET OUT OF THIS PLACE!” Viktor was still quite enthusiastic. All Starscream could think about was how much he wanted to power down for a night. Maybe two.
All was going well until it wasn’t. A figure dramatically drops down from above, blocking their exit. Oh, scrap it was Soundwave.
“WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT?” Vikor veered the motorcycle to the side, narrowly avoiding Soundwave's grasp. “IS THAT LIKE THE BOSS GUARD? DEAR FUCK IT IS TERRIFYING” Soundwave didn’t need a motorcycle to keep up with them; he simply had to wait by their only exit until they gave up and tried to get past him.
“Star, any ideas? Because that bitch is blocking our only way out, but I don’t think we are equipped to fight him.
“Um, is there really no way around?”
“Not without running into him, but maybe that might not be such a bad idea. Let's see if the fucker wants to risk getting hit head-on!”
“WHAT? That's the stupidest idea I’ve ever heard! And I’ve heard a lot of stupid ideas!”
“Do you have a better one?”
“...No.”
“Then suck it up, buttercup cup and brace for impact.”
Viktor made a U-turn and made sure there was a long beeline straight to where Soundwave was standing. Starscream held on tighter, fearing for his life. As the motorcycle sped towards Soundwave emotionless mask betrayed none of his thoughts. At the last moment, he stepped out of the way. He could have easily attempted to crash the bike and have the impact do the job of removing Starscream from the equation, but he wasn’t quite sure what these vehicles were capable of, and besides, they were trapped in this strange place. He had all the time in the world to find and eliminate Starscream.
As they left the arena behind, Starscream felt both relief and dread. They were finally free, but it hadn’t taken long for Soundwave to find him. If he wasn’t able to find a way out, he’d eventually have to deal with the Decepticons. Not to mention Viktor knew nothing of this, and if it could be helped, Starscream didn’t want him to know anything about it. Because it was easier to manipulate Viktor if he didn’t know the truth. Yeah that was why. Not because he thought Viktor would stop being his friend if he told him. He doesn’t care at all about how Viktor feels about him. He’s not scared of losing the friendship of a squishy, fragile beneath him human. Not one bit.
Chapter 6: Cold
Chapter Text
After a while of driving, the bike started to glitch and buffer on the rough terrain and eventually stopped running.
“Oh fuck that. I guess these aren’t meant to leave the games.” Viktor got off the bike and offered a hand to Starscream. Starscream took it and got off the bike himself, causing the bike to then deactivate back into a small cylinder.
“What do we do now?” Starscream was exhausted, and now that adrenaline was no longer coursing through him, he realized just how cold the grid was.
“I think we need to sleep. We need rest to better think of what to do next.”
“Sleep? Here? Just on the ground?” The Decepticons were hunting him! What if they found him?
“Well, we don’t exactly have any beds nearby.”
“Then one of us should stay up and keep watch.”
“No point. If they manage to somehow find us, we have no means of running away, and we’ll be sleeping in the most hidden spot we can find anyway.” There was a lot of cave-like crevices everywhere. Away from the arena, things went from orderly to disorderly in what looked to be a sharded wasteland.
“Fine, then, is there a way we can at least start a fire of some sort? Its freezing.”
“First of all, I’m not sure fire is even possible here. Second of all, even if it was, it would cause smoke and be like a flare to our location. But I do have another solution.” Viktor took off his outer coat layer and went to wrap it around Starscream. “There you go.”
Starscream was baffled by this action. “Won’t you be cold now?”
“A bit, but the other solution involves being close and relying on each other's body heat, and while I see no issue with such things, I have no idea your boundaries around physical touch, especially with someone you’re not partially familiar with.” Logically, Starscream should accept the gesture and not care whether or not Viktor would freeze, but maybe just maybe, he was beginning to appreciate Viktor a bit. But just as one would value tools and equipment. No, that was at the beginning. Maybe as one views a pet? Not equal in status, but the companionship is nice. Even if they're less, you don’t want them to be in pain. Besides, Starscream wasn’t accepting affection; he was accepting help.
“It’d benefit us both more if we got good rest and weren’t freezing to death all night. I see no harm in being close for heat purposes.” Starscream handed Viktor his coat back, and Viktor swiftly put it back on. They walked around a bit until they found a sufficient crevice to hide and sleep in. Viktor was the first to lie down in it, and Starscream followed, lying down next to him. The closed space helped retain the heat their bodies generated, and it was definitely better, but not quite to the point of comfort. Just bearable.
“Its still a bit cold.” Starsream didn’t expect Viktor to come up with solutions; he just wanted to complain about the situation they were in.
“Pfft no shit Sherlock.”
“What? My name isn’t Sherlock.” Starscream turned his head to give Viktor a confused look.
“No, it's a saying, it essentially means it doesn’t need a detective to know its still cold.”
“Oh, well, yeah, I guess that makes sense.” Starscream shifted back to looking up at the ceiling.
“It's a shame there aren’t stars here. Not that we’d be able to see them from under here, but a sky without stars is eerie.”
“This whole place is eerie.” Honestly, this place reminded Starscream of the nemesis.
“When I get out of this place, I’m going to start dating again.”
“What? Out of all things, why that?”
“Well, I kept putting it off, saying that the right guy would eventually come along, but life is short, and maybe the right guy is waiting for me to come along.”
“I suppose I can see the logic in that.” Starscream never really understood human traditions for romance. Especially with how often they seemed to fail.
“What about you?”
“Oh, um, I will… travel more.” I mean, it wasn’t fully a lie. He was going to have to travel far away to escape Megatron's wrath. Things got quiet. Maybe this was Viktor's way of saying he wants to sleep? Or was he just thinking of what to say next?
“As much as this whole situation sucks, does a part of you dread going back?” Viktor shifted to look towards Starscream this time.
“What? This place has tried to kill us multiple times!”
“I know, and it sucks, but… I don’t have to work or think about bills. Like if we managed to find a place with a proper bed here, I’ll have an existential crisis because I dread the idea of dying, but apparently I dread going back to my life more.” Starscream looked at Viktor, an emotion on his face, but not one that was easy to determine.
“Who said you had to go back to your life once you left?” There was a silence that felt louder than words. But neither were quite ready to say those words. So Viktor was quick to avoid the subject.
“We should discuss this more after we’ve had time to rest.” Viktor yawned, looking back at the ceiling.
“Good idea…” Starscream also found himself yawning. Which was an odd experience considering he’s never yawned before, but he had also never slept like a human has before, so it was all a learning experience. Things remained silent and eventually Starscream found himself falling asleep.
Chapter 7: Communication
Notes:
I am alive again. More chapters for you guys. Not that many people are reading this but still.
Chapter Text
Shortly after Starscream woke up, he gently nudged Viktor until he was awake too.
“Ugh. Its still fucking cold.” Viktor complained.
“No shit sherlock.” Viktor laughed.
“Fair enough. Alright, well, I guess it's time to start trying to figure out what our game plan is.” The two got out of the little crevice they had taken shelter in and got up to stretch and discuss what to do next.
“Honestly, our best bet would be to contact the science team monitoring the grid project. They’re the only ones with the resources to get us back out.” Viktor started pacing as he spoke. “But we have to find a way to contact them in the first place.” Viktor continued to pace and ramble about solutions, but Starscream couldn’t focus on what he was saying. One of the rocks or shards or whatever made this place look like a wasteland was reflective, and he had caught a brief glimpse of himself, and now he had to know what he looked like. As he took a few steps toward the shard, he was able to see what he looked like for the first time since he got here. God he looked so human. He had white hair with one red strand in the middle. His overall body looked like a weaker human imitation of his own. He both did and didn’t recognize himself. Honestly, it was quite freaky.
“Star are you alright?” Viktor had noticed he wasn’t paying attention. Seeing Viktors' reflection in comparison to his own was strange. Viktor's hair was longer, and the color was a reddish brown. A far more natural color. Viktor was also shorter, but not by much.
“I’m fine, its just been a bit since I’ve seen my reflection.”
“Yeah I get that. Honestly, I’ve looked better, and these knots in my hair are going to be a pain to brush out. But you’re okay?”
“Yeah. Did you figure out a way to contact the outside?” Starscream looked away from the reflection and turned to give Viktor his full attention.
“Actually, yeah. When we sent programs in here, we discovered that they had to get to a communications checkpoint in the coding before they could relay information to us. Since everything that was coded up there is manifested in some physical way down here, we just need to track down a checkpoint. The only problem we have is time.” Viktor started pacing again.
“Time, as in it’ll take a while to get to a checkpoint?”
“No Time, as in time in here moves faster than time out there. While we’ve been here for who knows how many cycles up there, maybe a day or even a couple of hours since we got here may have passed. Which means that even when they start working on getting us out, any delays they hit, we will feel tenfold.”
“So you’re saying that even if we do somehow manage to contact people, that we’re stuck here for a very long time!?” How on earth would they survive? Soundwave was hunting them down, and they had no shelter.
“Yes, but I have a few ideas of where we can stay. There was an information hub that we often sent programs to. It was called “End of the Line,” and there was a program there that you could trade with. It was almost like a video game, but it was often us trading supplies we had transported in for things the program could provide. Regardless, we need to get to the communication checkpoint first.”
“But how do we even know where to go? And last I checked, we have no way of going anywhere fast.” Starscream bitterly recalled the bike that had stopped working shortly after they had left the arena.
“Well, perhaps the checkpoint has manifested as a train station of some sort, and if so, then perhaps there's some form of rails we can follow to it. We just have to find them.”
“And how do you propose we do that? Pick a random direction to walk in?”
“No, just look around for anything out of the ordinary.” Starscream felt this was a bit of a silly idea, but anything was worth a shot at this point.
The two looked around for anything out of the ordinary. It didn’t take long for Starscream to spot what looked like the faintest string of light that seemed to go from the grid to somewhere else. However, whether it was actually where they needed to go or not was a long shot at best.
“Over there! A light going out from the grid! Or maybe to the grid? Regardless, are you sure this is our best chance?” Viktor stayed quiet, trying to think how best to answer Starscream's question.
“If we go to the grid now, there may still be too much attention on us due to our recent escape. Plus, any time we don’t send out a message makes the wait longer for when we do. Even if this doesn’t bring us where we need to be, it should at least ensure fewer people are looking for us in the grid. It's a gamble, but I’d personally take it. Especially since in the grid we don’t seem to need any food or water or resources like we would out there.” While going to the grid may bring a more comfortable stay, Viktor was willing to take a risk that would only have the downside of wasting time if it failed. Rather than a risk of a quick recapture.
“I trust your judgement.” Starscream wasn’t used to trusting people at all, but Viktor had only ever done what was best for both of their survival since they’d met. If Viktor felt this was a good idea, then Starscream was willing to give it a chance.
“We should try to be fast, but running, at least for me, isn’t the best idea as I’ll tire easily. Speed walking is probably the best idea, and we can take breaks as needed. After we send out the message, we can be a lot more lenient with time. In fact, if we can find ways to safely waste time, I’d recommend that.”
“Then we should get going.”
Viktor and Starscream began to swiftly walk towards the string of light. It was quiet for a few minutes, but not an awkward silence. Just an air of exhaustion. Until Viktor broke the silence.
“So I know we’ve talked a bit, but we’ve not really talked outside of survival-related topics. So do you have any hobbies?”
“Hobbies? I guess I haven’t really had time for those.” Starscream didn’t want to say flying or science experiments, as that could raise too many questions. Besides, neither of those were hobbies. The science experiments were for the betterment of the Decepticon army, and flying was just part of who he was.
“Okay, well, I like to embroider, play video games, and kickbox.” Starscream had heard of human video games, but the other things he mentioned he had never heard of, and he figured it was probably safe to ask.
“Embroider? Kickbox?”
“Oh yeah, I make a lot of Embroidery for my friends, and I figured kickboxing was a good workout.”
“No, I mean, can you tell me what those things are?”
“Embroidery is where you have a piece of fabric and you stitch a design onto it. Kickboxing is a form of martial art that's like a branch of boxing. Boxing is usually about punching and having really powerful punches, but kickboxing also makes sure you know how to kick.”
“Oh, so you know how to fight?” That could be useful.
“Kinda? In theory, I know how to fight, but I’ve never sparred, and I picked it up mainly for exercise.” Well, Starscream was a bit disappointed that he had no real fighting experience, but that could be fixed.
“Then perhaps as one of our time wasters, we should spar.”
“Oh, so you know a martial art? Why didn’t you mention that when I asked for hobbies?” Knowing how to fight wasn’t a hobby but a skill a Decepticon must have.
“I don’t really know a particular one; it's just more of general fighting knowledge I had to pick up.”
“Oh, okay, yeah, that makes sense. I’m fine with sparring, but do take it easy on me.” Starscream smiled at that. He wasn’t sure whether Viktor was trying to be humble or if he genuinely thought Starscream was the stronger one, but either way, he decided to take it as a compliment.
“Don’t worry, I don’t intend to hurt you. It's just best if we both prepare in case we have to fight.”
“Yeah, that’s fair. Well, Mr ‘I don’t have hobbies,’ what takes up all your time then?” Viktor couldn’t help but be curious. Was Star attempting to avoid small talk, or did he really just have no hobbies?
“Uh work. Just lots of work.” That only made Viktor feel like Star was avoiding talking to him.
“Not one for small talk?”
“No, it's just I’ve never really had to have small talk with someone in a long, long time. I don’t really get to meet anyone new, and when I do, it's usually under very different circumstances.” Most things Star said about himself puzzled Viktor. He was both emotionally open and withholding details. How he could admit that he’s had what sounds to be a lonely life but refuse to describe any actual part of it was truly a skill.
“You don’t have to share anything with me you don’t want to.” Starscream made a face at that.
“What prompted that?”
“You’re being cryptic. I don’t want to make you feel like you’re obligated to tell me about yourself.”
“Oh no, I don’t feel obligated, I just-” Why was he trying to explain himself to a human? Had he truly stopped seeing Viktor as lesser and now desired to be friends with him? He must truly be desperate for anyone who will be kind to him if he’ll befriend a human. But he couldn’t reveal too many details now. Viktor hasn’t shown that he’s particularly loyal to Starscream. More sticking with him due to convenience.
“I just don’t like talking about my life.”
“Okay, well then, is there anything you’re passionate about?” That was a horrible question. Because the answer was yes, but none of the things Starscream was passionate about were things he felt he could share. I mean, maybe if he reworded some very carefully?
“I have lots of ambitions and wish to make a name for myself.”
“Like rich and famous name for yourself? Or a super important part of history, name for yourself?”
“A bit of both?”
“Fair enough. Honestly, I’d like to be able to go to space.”
“Space? Why?”
“Well, I petitioned to go to the Mars colony, but I wasn’t selected. Even if you have the qualifications, you still have to essentially win the lottery to get selected to go. Because it's expensive, and either you have to be rich or super useful. Which is why I decided to help work on the grid program, since if we could get a very cheap way of going, then it’d be far more likely I’d get to go.” Starscream knew how inferior human technology was to cybertrian technology, but sometimes he forgot just how primitive it was to the point that going to space was something that many humans would never see due to their inefficient technology. Perhaps Starscream could show Viktor space. After all, he doesn’t seem happy with his current life. And having a human pet for companionship is something many bots do, so surely it isn’t the worst idea.
“I’m sure one day you’ll get to see space.”
“I appreciate the enthusiasm.”
Things then quieted down for a bit as the two got lost in their own thoughs and couldn't think of anything more to say in the moment. Besides they had a long walk ahead of them to focus on.
Chapter 8: The Clock is Ticking
Notes:
Hiii! The new Tron Ares came out, and it's amazing! However, I don't intend to implement any of it into this story as I feel it'd be forced and it wasn't originally planned for. However, I 1000% intend to do a crossover with the Tron Ares and something else, so do stick around for that!

Chapter Text
—------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A couple cycles later
—------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Starscream and Viktor had talked mainly about vague interests and made lots of small talk. Starscream keeping Viktor at a conversational arm's length, and Viktor being unsure how much to share without seeming pushy. They had rested when they needed to, and they had made significant progress. They had reached the string of light and had been following the direction it led.
Eventually, they reached what they assumed to be the communication checkpoint. However, it looked to be guarded. Not by a lot of guards, but still, any amount would make the task more tedious. Viktor and Starscream hid nearby behind some shards of the landscape.
“That's odd. When we used the information checkpoints, our programs never hit any security.”
“Maybe they’re programmed to let certain programs inside but not others. Regardless, we obviously wouldn’t just be allowed in due to the fact that we’re probably wanted criminals.”
“Well, there’s a lot of gaps in their patrolling. So getting in isn’t the issue. But we might run into issues on how long it takes to figure out how to send out a message.”
“So what's the plan?”
“Do you have a better plan than getting in as fast as possible, then running
out? Because we have no good way to make any diversions that wouldn’t be far more risky than just going in and hoping for the best.”
“I suppose you’re right,” Starscream wished he had a better idea, but he didn’t have the ability to transform, meaning he didn’t have flight or his weapons or anything that would help in this situation. Besides, surely they were both capable enough of fighting their way out if it came to that.
“So then we wait. See when there's an opening, be quick about getting out a message.” While most of Viktor's plan sounded great, Starscream couldn’t help but feel frustrated at having to wait more. How long would this take? How long would they be stuck in here? How long-
“Okay go go go go!” Viktor gently tugged on Starscreams arm, and they both hurried towards the facility and got inside. Once inside, it was very apparent that it was empty. Only the bare bones of security had been posted outside to keep people out. That either meant this facility wasn’t seen as something worth protecting or that many programs had recently been pulled to the main grid for other reasons.
“Uh this way I guess?” Viktor led in a direction that he figured would be where the communication room would be. Once they found it, there was a few different consoles, and Viktor approached one and started figuring out how to work it.
“How do you know how to use these?”
“I don’t. All the buttons are labeled with what they do, so it's not too hard to figure it out from there.”
“Oh well, that's oddly convenient,”
“You’d think so, but it's actually pretty common if you frequently have new people needing to learn the technology fast.” Viktor pushed a few more buttons. “Okay, testing 1 2 3 testing 1 2 3 is anyone getting this message?” A few moments passed before the console lit up, and a voice came from it, saying.
“Uh, yeah, this is Dr Donfort to whom am I speaking with?”
“Jakie! It’s Viktor! I’m in the grid!”
“VIKTOR OH THANK GOD I THOUGHT YOU DIED.”
“No I didn’t! I’m okay! Kinda! I’m sorta stuck here, and already I was forced to fight in thisl like gladiatorial arena and I almost died multiple times! Anyways, you gotta get me out of here!”
“Well, good news, I don’t think anyone will object to restarting the project even if it's just to get you out. Bad news, the laser blew up after you went in, meaning we’ll have to rebuild it, and that could take a while.”
“IT BLEW UP?” Starscream shushed Viktor, reminding him that there are still guards outside.
“Yeahhhh, but we have the blueprints and the material. Now, how many others do we need to get out?”
“Well, so far it's just me and Star. Star’s a civilian who somehow got put in here. So I’m guessing the explosion somehow caused that. Unfortunately, I haven’t found anyone els,e and the games are brutal, so I’m not hopeful for others.”
“Well, tell Star hi for me, and I’ll get to work on getting you out. Is there anything else I can do?”
“You wouldn’t happen to be able to send a program to escort us to End of the Line, would you? I figured if it was an information hub on our side, that maybe on this side, the actual place will somehow help us find a safe place to stay.”
“Absolutely! I’ll send Jake to help you. Do you want him to keep staying with you after you get there?”
“No. Jake’s your life's work. I appreciate you sending your absolute best to protect m,e and I will accept the offer, but I’m not risking your life's work any more than I have to.”
“Alright, well, we’ll get you out of there. I promise.”
“Okay, do you know how long it will take for Jake to-” Yelling from outside was heard. That was probably the cue to leave.
“I have to go. Talk later!” Viktor didn’t stick around long enough to hear Jakie say bye and instead followed Starscream in running out. When they got outside, instead of angry guards ready to fight them, they saw a different fight occurring. Soundwave had caught up and was swiftly disposing of guards who had gotten in his way.
“Oh, scrap, we need to go!”
“Way ahead of you, buddy!” Viktor and Starscream started to run back towards the grid and away from Soundwave, but that didn’t help much. Once he noticed them, he began to swiftly catch up.
“JESUS CHRIST PLEASE FUCK OFF,” Viktors yelling didn’t deter the ever-approaching Soundwave. Just as he was getting close, the sound of an engine could be heard, and he briefly stopped to look for the sound. However, that was too late as the impact of the car sent him flying. The top flipped open, and a man yelled. “GET IN!” Honestly, he didn’t even need to say that, as Viktor and Starscream practically threw themselves in the car, and the man stepped on the gas and sped away from danger.
“You guys okay?”
“Uh, a lot better now that you hit him with a car. Are you Jake?”
“Yeah I’m Jake.”
“I figured you look just like her husband.”
“I what?” Jake looked at Viktor with confusion.
“Your creator. You’re named after her husband, and you look like him, too.”
“Ooh. That's cool.”
“Yeah it is. Jake meet Star, Star meet Jake.” Viktor gestured back in forth between the two.
“Hi I’m Star.” Was all Starscream could think to say.
“Alright, well, good to meet you guys both. You’re safe for now, and when we get to End of the Line, Caster can sort you out.”
“Sounds good.” Viktor felt the adrenaline dying down and just felt exhausted. “I’m going to take a nap, so wake me up when we get there.”
“I second that. A nap sounds good.” Starscream wasn’t usually one for displaying weakness, but he was too tired to care.
Soon, both had drifted off to sleep. Right now, they could rest easy knowing there was no immediate danger.
Notes:
Also just to clarify I did mean to spell Jakie as Jakie. Pronouced the same as Jackie. Its the nickname for my bestfriend and I felt she deserved a cameo. Also the last name Donford is in fact a Duskwood reference for anyone who knows that lovely game. If you don't I highly reccomend checking it out.
Chapter 9: End of the Line

Disclaimer: This is the chapter with the mention of sex work with mild innuendos, so do be aware of that!
Also, wow, almost to the end of this fic! How fun! My first ever completed solo fic!

Chapter Text
“Alright, time to wake up.” Jake gently shook the two awake. They had ended up falling asleep leaning on each other, which was probably more comfy than resting on the sides of the car.
“We’re there already?” Viktor stretched a bit, wishing he could sleep more.
“Not quite. I can’t just drive up to the club. For obvious reasons, that would draw more attention than necessary. So I’m going to drop you off, but it's not that far. Just go straight at that sign.” Jake pointed to a neon sign advertising disc repairs. “You turn right and you’ll see it. Even if you were blind, you wouldn’t miss it as Castor loves a spectacle.”
“More walking,” Starscream grumbled. If he could fly, everything would be so much easier.
“Hopefully not too much more…” The two got out of the car, and Jake drove away. They began to walk in the direction Jake told them to.
“So, have you met this Castor before?”
“Well no. I mean, I’ve gone to End of the Line before, but from the outside. So it was all just text and data.” They made the turn at the sign.
“I will say it certainly didn’t look like this from the outside.” In front of the two was what seemed to be a club of sorts. With plenty of neon signs encouraging those around to give in to curiosity and see what's inside.
“Well, the sooner we can find a place, the sooner I don’t have to walk, so let's keep moving.” Starscream was ready to lie down and sleep for multiple days.
The two walked in and were immediately greeted with loud music. Looking around revealed that this was a bar that provided many “services” for its patrons. When Starscream noticed some of the people eyeing the two of them, he got nervous and tilted his head to gesture, “let's keep moving”. Viktor, feeling the same nervousness, gave a curt nod and briskly walked passed the patrons with Starscream following not far behind. As they got further in what looked to be a guard approached them.
“Oh scrap.” Starscream really didn’t want to deal with another guard.
“You here to see Castor?” The assumed guard asked.
“Yes. Yes we are.” Viktor smiled but was ready to grab his disc to defend himself at any moment.
“Figured. If you were here for ‘other things,’ you would’ve stopped wandering around already. Follow me.” Starscream looked to Viktor, who looked back at him before following the man. The man led them to another man who had almost blindingly white attire with white hair, who was speaking to others in a very showy way.
“Castor, if you aren’t busy, I have clients for you.” The flamboyant man turned and looked Viktor up and down, which made Starscream feel weird.
“Well, what do we have here? Come, come, let us speak privately.” Castor led them to his private lounge and walked up to the bar and poured three drinks.
“So who do we have here? Rogue programs? Runaway competitors? Or perhaps were you interested in me for more personal matters?” Another look towards Viktor.
“Oh- no no- we’re not really here for-” Viktor didn’t really like the looks being given his way.
“Oh, I see, I see well you two are an adorable couple, I must say.”
“Not quite-”
“Yes, something like that.” Viktor looked at Starscream, a bit confused, as to why he said yes, but I mean, maybe he missed clues? He is bad at knowing when someone likes him. Maybe Starscream had basically asked him to be a couple, and he somehow said yes without realizing? One can be that clueless. Well, Viktor didn’t really have an objection to it, so no reason in asking about it now.
Starscream, on the other hand, was completely baffled by what possessed him to say yes. Maybe it was in hopes of getting the strange man to back off? Viktor just seemed uncomfortable, and it seemed easier to agree with the strange man about being together than arguing.
“Well then, how may I be of service to you?” Castor did a dramatic bow before offering the drinks to them. They accepted the drinks, and Viktor was the first to speak.
“How to explain this. Me and Star here are from the outside? Like outside the grid, and we are hoping to return back to the outside. However, the portal back won’t be open for a while, so we need somewhere to stay safe from the guards from the games that are trying to track us down, probably to kill us.” Viktor then took a long sip of his drink.
“That's certainly a dilemma. I can, of course, provide you with the shelter you seek, but of course not without compensation.”
“Compensation right um. I hadn’t thought of that before.” Did they even have a monetary system here? “What exactly do you accept as compensation?”
“Well, I accept information and exotic goods. Though I don’t think you have any exotic goods on you, so perhaps information?” Viktor couldn’t think of anything, but he didn’t have to.
“You wouldn’t happen to have run into a trouble with a group that calls themselves the Decepticons, would you?” It was bound to come out eventually, and if this got them a safe place to stay, then it was worth. Besides, Vikor had been so nice, surely he’d understand.
“Actually, I have! A rogue group of programs that have been causing so much ruckus! What do you know?” Starscream had Castor's full interest.
“They’re run by someone named Megatron. Without him, they’re lost and will battle for leadership. I’m surprised they’re even able to cause trouble in their weaker state.” Viktor looked to Starscream. No wonder Sarscream didn’t like to talk about his past. Was he in some gang?
“Well, well, well, that is useful information! Feel free to stay as long as you need to! I’ll have one of my people show you to your room!” The guard-looking person from before came in and led them to the room where they’d be staying. The room had two beds, a balcony, and a bathroom suite. I guess Castor really appreciated that information. Viktor flopped down on one of the beds.
“Look, normally I’d offer to let you talk about whatever it is you’re going through, but I’m really tired. So if you want to take me up on this offer, can you do so in the morning?”
“You’re not upset I haven’t talked to you about it before?”
“Not really. We’ve both been under a lot of stress from this entire situation. And even if we are a thing, it's new and there's still so much to learn about each other.” Viktor kicked off his shoes and snuggled under the blankets.
“Well, I promise to tell you everything in the morning.” Starscream laid on his bed. “Wait, thing? I just said that because you looked uncomfortable with how that man was looking at you.”
“So we aren’t a thing?” Viktor was confused and a bit disappointed.
“No, I mean yes, I mean do you want to be?” Starscream pulled his blankets over himself.
“I mean, I liked the idea. But we should talk more about it in the morning.” Viktor closed his eyes.
“Yeah, alright.” Starscream let his drowsiness take over, and he drifted off. Finally, a comfy night's sleep.

Finally they are basically together! Just when theres only a few chapters left! Don't you guys love slow burns? :3
Chapter 10

A shorter chapter but hopefully the next few will be a bit longer! The end of the fic approaches!
Chapter Text
Starscream woke up. But instead of the usual cold air, he was in a nice, comfy bed. He sat up and saw Viktor sitting at a table in new clothes, with a drink, completing a puzzle.
“Hey, no rush to get up if you want to sleep longer.”
“No. As surprised as I am to say this, I think I’m tired of sleeping?” Starscream felt very well rested and now wanted to move about.
“I completely understand. They brought us new clothes, they’re in the closet.” Starscream got out of bed and stretched.
“Thanks.” He went to the closet and picked out some new clothes before going to the bathroom to get changed. Once he’s changed, he goes to sit at the table with Viktor.
“I suppose I should tell you everything now.”
“Only if you want to.” Viktor looked up from the puzzle to give Starscream his full attention.
“Well, I want to tell you everything if that's alright.”
“Of course. Go ahead.” Viktor tilted his head and smiled gently.
“Long story short, my name isn’t Star. I mean, it is, but that’s just half of it. My name is Starscream, and I was part of a group called the Decepticons. We are a group from the planet Cybertron, and we left because of an ongoing war we had with the Autobots. Also, we’re not humans, we’re cybertronians, which, using human terms, is basically giant robots with the ability to transform into vehicles. For example, my alt mode is plane as I’m a seeker and flight is obviously superior to a vehicle mode with wheels.” Starscream gave Viktor an awkward smile.
“Okay, I do have a few questions.”
“I figured you might. I’ll do my best to answer them.”
“Firstly, is it alright if I still call you Star? I don’t mind calling you Starscream, but I think Star is a cute nickname. Second, so you’re an alien robot? Do you know how you got here?”
“Oh, um, yes, Star is perfectly fine, and yes, that sums it up, and no. One moment, Soundwave was simply connecting to human systems, and the next, we were all here in very humanoid forms.”
“I guess I only have one more question then.”
“Go right ahead.”
“Are we together? As in boyfriends?” Starscream had forgotten all about that, but it did need to be addressed.
“Do you have any issues dating a robot that's probably taller than your house?”
“Do you have any issues dating a human that, from the sounds of it, can probably fit in the palm of your hands?”
“No, I suppose not.”
“Good, then that settles everything. You will have to properly meet my best friend as she’s supposed to vet any guys I date, but I don’t think she’ll have any issues with you. She’s always joked that the only guy I’d really like would have to be an alien from space.” Starscream laughed. Never in a million years would he have thought he’d be with a human, but honestly, not having to follow Megatron's orders and constantly risk his life was nice.
“Besides, I do get some time with you before you go back to being a robot! So we can make the most of it! Oh, like we can dance and hug and do puzzles!” Viktor was smiling so much that it nearly hurt. He was safe from being hunted, he had a nice place to stay, and now he was dating someone he had spent a lot of time surviving with! And would get to spend a lot more time chilling with.
“We can do all the dancing and hugging and puzzles you like while we can then!” Starscream wouldn’t get many opportunities to experience life like a human would, and while at first it seemed horrible, now it seemed like it might be some fun! Perhaps the wait for freedom wouldn’t feel so long anymore.

With lots of time to kill it mean Viktor and Starscream had time to get to know each other and do all the human things they wanted. Which to Viktor meant teaching Starscream every dance he knew and even a few he didn’t.
“Okay so this dance is relatively easy but you won’t see it outside of very specific formal occasions. So if we were in the club part of this building this isn’t the dance you’d really do there. But its so much fun! Its called the waltz and its one of the first dances my father taught me.” Viktor was grinning clearly excited.
“Okay then how do we start?”
“Well first we practice the movements cause if we just jump into the arrangement we’ll step on each others feet. Thats a mistake many people make. My dad explained it like drawing out a box. So stand directly in front of me and start with your two feet directly side by side.” Starscream followed the directions.
“So step your left foot forward then you will step your right foot forward but a bit to the side so they’re not immediately side by side.”
“left foot forward then right foot.”
“Now you step your left foot to the right to have your feet side by side again. Then from here you step your right food back then your left foot back but away from your right foot so they aren’t together until the next step where you bring them together again.” Starscream did his best to follow the instructions provided.
“Yeah like that! Pratice it a few more times then’ll I’ll show you what its like to dance with someone else.” Starscream praticed until he was able to do it without messing up.
“Now since you’re ever so slightly taller you will put one of your hands on my waist and then the other hand will be holding mine.” Viktor held out his hand for Starscream to take. Starscream gently took his hand then put his other hand on Viktors waste.
“Now I put my hand on your shoulder and then we both do the square thing. But in order for it to work one of us has to start with stepping backwards instead of stepping forward. I’ll do that since you just started learning this. Oh also to keep track we do each move to a ‘one two three’ count.” Viktor put his hand on Starscreams shoulder while Starscream was a getting a bit lost. Viktor noticed the confused look on Starscreams face.
“Its alright just only do each step on a number. So when I say one you are stepping forward with your left food and two with your right foot and so on and so forth.”
“I think I kinda understand?”
“It makes more sense when you actually do it. So lets give it a try alright?”
“I guess I’m ready.”
“Then one.” Starscream stepped forward as Viktor stepped back. “Two” both stepped to the side. “Three” Then stepped so their feet were together.
“See just like that and then I will do the ‘one two three’ again but we do the last three steps of the box. Lets practice!”
The two continued to practice dancing until it could be easily done on the rhythm with little mistakes. Then Viktor introduced the concept of moving in a circle while make a square. Then the concept of spinning. Starscreams favorite part was the spinning. Luckily for him there were plenty more dances that involved spinning.

“Are puzzles on Cybertron similar to the ones here?” Viktor continued working to find all the edge pieces.
“Yes but usually they’re for hiding away mysterious artifacts or training to think logically rather than just for fun.” Starscream was more focused on grabbing a piece and trying to fit it to every other piece until he found the correct solution.
“I like puzzles with pretty pictures because then you can put tape on the back and hang it on the wall.” Viktor finished putting together all the edges of the puzzle so now only the inside was left.
“Well when we’re out there I probably won’t be able to do the smaller puzzles with you but that doesn’t mean I won’t get you as many puzzles as your heart desires.” Starscream put in the pieces he already connected into the center.
“We could also just get puzzles with really big pieces. I’m sure they make them.”
“It would be nice to still be able to do puzzles together.” Something comforting is no matter what obstacle Starscream would bring up for their relationship Viktor would always find solutions.
“Thank you” Starscream reached out and interlocked his hand with Viktors.
“You better not be thanking me for finding solutions for our relationship. Because thats how a relationship is supposed to be. People who decided they wanted to be together even when its not convenient.”
“Doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate the effort.” Viktor rolled his eyes but gave starscreams hand a gentle kiss.
“Alright the appreciation is appreciated. Want to go get some drinks? We’ve been sitting for a while and should get up for a stretch.”
“Thats a good idea.” the two let go of each others hands and stood up and stretched. This was how most of their time was passed. Talking and doing puzzles and dancing. It was a nice change of pace from the rush of the grid. Honestly it was a nice change of pace from life before the grid. Starscream wasn’t constantly having to watch his back and pray for his safety and Viktor didn’t have to deal with the general burnout of life. Even when the way back outside the grid was open they wouldn’t have to return to their previous lives. They could do whatever they wanted.
