Trustworthy (WIP)

Summary:

Takes place in the canon world of MHA, VERYYY self indulgent. Centres around Spinner (duh)

You had joined the League of Villains to get away from everything. Your life, your family, your problems...You didn't want to get too attached to anybody. That would just suck for you more in the long run if people found out about your past. What you didn't expect was to become increasingly close with the dorky Stain admirer, Spinner.
Maybe he would understand.

Notes:

This is my first fic ever...scary...so sorry if it's weirdly formatted or just fucking sucks LMAOO. Wanted to add my two cents into finally writing a spinner fic bc he is CRIMINALLY underrated

Chapter Text

Quick reader quirk explanation: Molten lava. User can create and manipulate molten lava to do all kinds of things. This also makes them fireproof and naturally warmer. Overuse can cause the lava to encase them and cause them to lose control and lash out.

Joining the League of Villains was the last thing you had ever viewed yourself doing, but desperate times called for desperate measures.

After running from your family because of an incident and crashing in some dingy apartment for a few weeks, you found yourself completely stuck. You couldn't hide here for the rest of your life...you still had things you wanted to do! Like...well...okay maybe you didn't know what the hell you wanted to do with your life, but that wasn't the point! The point was that you could do something if you really wanted to! But if that article was going to be published about the..."Incident"...Then you were probably going to be recognised in public eventually...So, with nothing better to do, you decided to join the upcoming villain group, the "League of Villains". Joining the league was easier said than done. Tracking them was incredibly difficult, as they covered their tracks thoroughly, which should've been obvious. I mean, yeah- it's the League of Villains. Of course they aren't gonna be out there advertising themselves. But after sleepless nights, staying up on forums and tracking certain events in areas they had been rumoured to operate in, you eventually got there. They were living in a run down bar in the Kamino ward, seemingly looking for more members to join. It was surprisingly easy to join. You didn't have many goals, but you wanted the world to be reshaped. You wanted the freedom to live however you wanted without being judged for a quirk you had no control over. All you had to do was pretty much just walk in, speak with the leader, Shigaraki, and after a small "interview" he decided to let you in.

Score. At least now you didn't have to worry about where you'd be sleeping next...

The group was about as all over the place as you'd have expected. There were a lot of different people, which included (but wasn't limited to) a very enthusiastic, though somewhat unnerving, teenage girl, a guy with burn grafts all over his face and body, some guy in a mask and top hat and...a stain cosplayer.

Great. You were surrounded by losers.

Well...you supposed beggars can't be choosers. And if you were there, maybe you were a loser too.

After a few conversations across a couple of days, you had noticed that the most normal person to speak to (or at least you thought, anyway) was Spinner, the guy wearing the Stain outfit. The guy seemed pretty down to earth the few times you had heard him speak. He looked around your age, and had a quirk that gave him a reptilian-like appearance, with green scales, a snout and short claw-like nails. He had swept back, long pink hair, and was constantly seen wearing Stain inspired attire. I mean, you'd been there for days and you swore he hadn't taken it off. At all. You had moved into one of rooms above the bar, like the others, so you had started to see each other more frequently, but you hadn't had a real conversation with the guy. Maybe it was time for that to change?

One evening, down at the bar, everyone else seemed to be doing their own thing, drinking or lounging around, but Spinner appeared to simply be standing in the back corner of the room observing everyone. With a small sigh, you walked over. He seemed alright. A little socially inept, maybe...

"Hey, Spinner, right?"

He seemed startled out of his thoughts, glancing at you. Were you actually initiating a conversation...with him?

"Oh? Oh. Hey, yeah. Spinner. You're Y/N, right?" He asked, shifting his weight from left to right. He didn't expect you to speak to him. He had been standing around for a while just watching everyone interact quietly.

"That's me." You nodded curtly, glancing around the room. "...You always just stare at people?"

Spinner paused, looking over the bar sheepishly. "Ah. yeah, kind of. Sorry if I creeped you out or something."

"No, no. You didn't creep me out. I just wanted to come talk to you. Everyone else seems to have their own thing going, and you...well...you're kinda just in the corner."

He sighed, looking over at everyone. Shigaraki was chatting to Kurogiri whilst playing on a console of some sort. Toga was talking to Magne and Twice enthusiastically, while Dabi and Mr Compress both sat at the bar quietly. Spinner was never the most social person. He had spent years stuck in his house not really talking to anybody, so being in such a large group was a little intimidating.

"Yeah, I guess I'm just not a social butterfly." He leaned against the wall again, analysing your expression. Were you gonna question him? Insult him? He braced for the worst, glancing from you to the clock, tapping his foot.

"I can see that..." You spoke quietly, the dull chatter of the bar making for some pleasant background noise. "I actually had a question to ask you...if that's okay?"

"Oh? A question?" He straightened himself up, still a little lost as to why a girl was actively talking to him. He was totally out of his depth. "About what?"

You chuckled quietly, looking at his Stain outfit. "What's with the Stain getup? Are you cosplaying him or...?"

He immediately furrowed his brow, looking embarrassed behind his mask. "Uh- no- well...!" He stammered, looked a little offended.

"I just admire the guy, that's all...! His ideologies are something I follow deeply!"

You paused, noting his expression and his defensive tone. Did he think you were making fun of him or something...? (God, Y/N, did you have to laugh? ) "Hey, I wasn't trying to be rude, if that's what you're thinking. I was genuinely curious..."

His expression shifted, but he still crossed his arms, his red eyes narrowed in suspicion. "Kinda seemed like it...?"

"...Sorry, I..." You trailed off, not knowing exactly what to say. "Just forget I asked- uh..."

You paused, trying to think of a better question. "...So...what's your quirk?"

Growing up, you weren't exactly exposed to many different people. Your parents, who were heroes, decided your quirk was too "destructive", and as a result, had stopped you from being in the public eye. They didn't want the fact that you had such a volatile quirk to skew their perfect, heroic image, as they both had much neater, more controlled quirks, which was almost the opposite of yours. Due to this, you hadn't developed your quirk or your social skills very much, especially when it came to people with heteromorphic quirks. They had planted some not so nice ideas in your head about "people like that", but growing up, you had tried your best to ignore that side of their teachings. You decided to try and change the topic from his clothing to his quirk. You didn't want to assume what it was at face value.

"..."  Spinner stared at you, his expression blank. "Is that meant to be some kind of joke?"

"What?"

"I mean its kind of obvious just by looking at me. My quirk is Gecko. I can climb walls and stuff..." He muttered, looking a little uncomfortable talking about his quirk. It was fairly obvious what it was just by looking at him. Were you trying to make some kind of bad joke at his expense? He was used to that. Or were you just being dense? Either way, it didn't make him any less annoyed, but he decided to keep his cool, trying to steer the conversation away from him.

"Oh! yeah- uh, I didn't mean..." You start, pausing and looking around. "I didn't want to assume-"

"Nope." He sighed, shifting his weight again and running a hand through his hair. He was a little surprised by your quick correction. "Just that...And yours is uh...Lava or something?"

You nodded, glad that he didn't seem to take too much offence to that stupid question. "Yeah! Lava. I can make it and control it. It gives me these little cracks on my hands and stuff..."

He nodded along, glancing down at your hands. They had small molten cracks on them, nothing too noticeable. "Sounds useful..."

. . .

There was a beat of awkward silence, both of you clearly not doing well with small talk. You both awkwardly shifted, looking around. He eventually spoke up.

"Is that all you uh...needed?"

You sheepishly nodded. "Oh, well-"

You were interrupted by Toga skipping over, grabbing your arm, the blonde girl clearly excited about something.

"Y/N!" She giggled. "Come over here! Me and Big Sis were talking about having a girls night! You should totally join us!! We can get to know each other better! And then we can-"

She dragged you out of the corner towards the booth she and Magne were sitting at, chatting away about all the different things you three could all do together, abruptly ending your conversation with Spinner. Damn it. You felt like you had maybe gotten off to a weird start. The conversation barely flowed, and you were positive you had insulted him a few times by accident. You joined the girls sitting at their booth and chatted to them. They were nice, and a girls night sounded fun, but you found your attention being drawn back to Spinner in the corner. God, you'd have to speak to him again to clear a few things up. You just hoped he didn't take anything the wrong way...

Maybe next time wouldn't be as awkward?
