Chapter Text
It’s been a few years since they first started to appear. Scratches along the sides of trees or the siding of houses, too large to be that of a cougar but yet too small to be that of a bear.
Then there were the trails. Long squiggled lines amongst mud right after a fresh rainy day.
Of course there were the issues with livestock as well… Farmers waking up to find a cow or a sheep or even a donkey gone without a trace, rarely finding the smallest evidence of where they could've gone off to besides signs of a scuffle in the pasture.
People, of course, were terrified. No one knew what they were, knew how to keep them away, knew what they wanted…
Eventually, as humans do with all things, we adapted and learned.
People installed alarms, enough to scare the things away for a while. Police cars would occasionally whoop their sirens in the dead of night to potentially spook off any of the beasts. Planes began to fly lower in more rural areas to cause even more noise.
Unfortunately, they adapted as well. A simple noise deterrent was never going to work forever in my opinion..
