Why Wouldn't I

Summary:

Basketball star Matsuno Karamatsu and member of a famous idol group Matsuno Osomatsu go on a date.

(based on Tumblr user Midumatsu's AU)

Notes:

This is my first ever fanfic for Osomatsu-san, or at least first that I've ever decided to publish outside Tumblr, and first work in AO3. While I am not new to this site, I am new to actually producing works to it. And also this fic was requested in a stream I was in, particularly Midumatsu's, whose AU this was based off of.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

The stadium was packed with people in the audience, the majority of them being females from the teenage demographic, as the show of the idol group F6 was about to start. Excitement filled the stadium, as much as the group hadn't come onstage yet. Well, what's not to be excited about, though?

Among the sea of females was a male, basketball star Matsuno Karamatsu. Now why was he in this concert? The answer was...not so simple: he came to see one of the members, specifically F6's leader, the Refreshing Justice Matsuno Osomatsu, or in simpler words his boyfriend. No, they are not related. They just so happened to have the same surname, and very similar names as well. But as Karamatsu says to himself sometimes, fate loves to play cruel jokes to people in love.

"Ladies and gentlemen," an announcement came from the sound system, prompting the crowd to scream after. "Tonight, prepare to be amazed...by the one and only...F6!!!"

The entire stadium was filled with screams as six men walked to the stage from some door on the stage setup. All of them were wearing differently-colored clothes, specifically six colors of the rainbow, though they all did seem to have a common theme: handcuffs and blindfolds. To be exact, black blindfolds, chains connected to shackles on the wrists and neck of three of them, and black leather fingerless gloves connected to a chain on the other three. And one of those three with the gloves was the one wearing red, the reason Karamatsu even came to the show.

"Good evening, Akatsuka!" The six cheered onto the microphones that they had in their hands. The stadium was once again filled with the cheers of the audience.

Karamatsu, seeing Osomatsu blindfolded and bound in the wrists, felt blood rushing to his face. If anything, he thought that Osomatsu was sexy tonight. Not that he wasn't sexy, but he just somehow seems even sexier tonight with them on. He wanted to scream, make his voice louder than the girls on the show, let his presence be known. But ah, his voice was drowned by the cheer of the predominantly female audience. How tragic.

...

"HEY, WHERE DID OSOMATSU GO??"

The uproar of female fans filled the air in the idol group's meet-and-greet as the discovery that the group's leader was nowhere in sight. Even the five remaining members had no idea where he went, as they were already there before they had possibly noticed he was missing.

A man in a green suit and glasses had his hands in his hair as the crowd of girls went ballistic. "This is bad! We need to find Osomatsu or the meet-and-greet will be a total disaster!"

Where was Osomatsu, you might ask? He was somewhere rather far from the meet-and-greet, donning a yellow baseball cap, a face mask with a drawn grin (with the teeth of said grin colored in the colors of the rainbow), aviator sunglasses, a black hoodie, and blue sweatpants. What he had on was a disguise to avoid the fans. After all, he had somewhere to go and would rather go to his destination without a hitch. Looking at his phone, he reread the text message he received from Karamatsu and ran from where he was toward the direction of his destination, which was a restaurant outside the stadium.

Eventually he made it, though to his chagrin this restaurant was...fancy, something Osomatsu wasn't into. Really, Karamatsu? You could have at least thought to take me to a crepe stand. He begrudgingly walked to the direction of a table, looking around to see if anyone from the restaurant has spotted him. They were indeed looking at him: his outfit screamed "not fancy at all".

And there Karamatsu was, at the farthest end of the restaurant waving at him. He was wearing a black hound's tooth print button-down shirt, a blue blazer with the sleeves rolled to the elbows, white pants, black Oxfords, and a gold watch and necklace. It wasn't exactly what one would call fancy, but it was dressy. In heavy contrast to what Osomatsu was wearing. Why the fancy place if you're not even fancy yourself?

Osomatsu waved back, but gestured to him that he will be in the bathroom. Quickly after he ran to the bathroom, having found out where it was when he saw a man exit from a direction, and set down a backpack that he had brought with him. Thank goodness he prepared a change of clothes beforehand, or else he would have been embarrassed for dressing so...horribly in a fancy restaurant setting. Unzipping the backpack he changed into a white tank top with blue stripes, red pants, brown leather shoes, and a tan cardigan. While this was not fancy either (he did expect to be brought to a crepe stand so he just brought casual attire), but this was dressy for what he normally wears. What he wore prior to changing? He shoved those into his backpack.

Exiting the bathroom he walked over to Karamatsu who was still standing where he was. He wondered why Karamatsu didn't sit down to wherever it was he was seated. Perhaps he was just being a gentleman, not that Osomatsu was his lady, of course.

"Why aren't you sitting?" Osomatsu asked him, cocking his head to the side as he rubbed his index finger against his nose. "Don't you have a table reserved?"

A "hmph" came from Karamatsu's mouth as he gave Osomatsu a smirk. "About that...I have reserved..." He struck a pose with one knee to the ground, the other bent at a right angle, one hand to his face, and the other extended in the air. "The best seat in the house!"

Loud scoffs escaped Osomatsu as he tried to hold back laughter. As much as his boyfriend has done this enough times, he still can't help but crack up. "Karamatsu, can you not for tonight? I just wanna go to our seats!"

Karamatsu then stood from his position and, with a straight face, took Osomatsu by the hand and brought him to a direction that was not to any of the tables he could find. A private room, Osomatsu supposed? Or maybe it was a balcony table where they can see the skyline? Or what if it turns out this Karamatsu was fake and he was being kidnapped?!

"Here we are!"

They stopped. It seemed Osomatsu was brought to what looked to be a garden. Tivoli lights adorned the hedge walls surrounding the area. Lamp posts on both sides of a cobblestone path that led to a two-seat table inside a white lattice fenced gazebo. A waterfall to its right. A waiter stood in front of the gazebo, smiling in their direction. The setting of the place was beautiful...if the person who was gonna be there was a girl or had bad taste.

"K-ka-kara-Karamatsu, you shouldn't have!" Osomatsu tried to say in between scoffs. "I-I mean, if I was a woman, I'd love this, but--" Guffaws made their way out of his mouth. "I'm sorry, Karamatsu, but why this?"

Hurt made its way to Karamatsu's face. "Sorry, Osomatsu, I just thought you'd like this." He looked down and away from the other. "I mean, I didn't just spend half my share of my team's winnings from last week to disappoint you, did I?"

Now it was Osomatsu who felt hurt. "I-I'm sorry for offending you, Karamatsu!" He placed his hands on Karamatsu's shoulders. "We're gonna spend this date in this restaurant, okay?" He grinned when Karamatsu nodded. "Good! Next time, though," he pouted, "I'm picking the location."

...

Two hours into their date and the two were talking about the show earlier. How Osomatsu looked good onstage. How Karamatsu wanted to yell loud enough to be heard by Osomatsu. How the performances were spectacular. How awful the rehearsal for one of the numbers was. How one of the other idol group members was able to spot Karamatsu before Osomatsu did. How Karamatsu wasn't even able to get a VIP ticket because they were sold out. How he bribed his and Osomatsu's mutual fans who bought VIP to give him their ticket in exchange for his general admission. How Osomatsu wasn't able to get VIP tickets because his manager knew he would end up stealing them to give to Karamatsu like he always did in all their previous shows. How Osomatsu escaped the meet and greet just to get to the date. How Karamatsu was jealous of how famous Osomatsu was. How Osomatsu would have preferred to stay grounded and maybe retire from F6 and just live a quiet life by himself.

The last part of their conversation left the both of them quiet. Osomatsu was looking down at a slice of strawberry shortcake that had remained untouched since the waiter set it in front of him, perhaps just not to look at Karamatsu. His hands which rested on his lap made their way to his dessert fork as he tried to get his mind off of retiring from his group and ate the cake.

Karamatsu just watched him, a frown forming on his face. He sighed.

"You know, I actually feared this day would come."

At this, Osomatsu shrunk into his seat.

Karamatsu waved his hands defensively, not wanting to see his boyfriend looking even more down than he already was. "D-don't take this the wrong way, my honey!" The last two words prompted Osomatsu to look up at him. "I mean, if you really are to leave your group, I would support you wholeheartedly and let you reside with me in my humble abode where you and I can live a happy and peaceful life toget--"

"Karamatsu, that hurts!" Osomatsu was now laughing, a stark contrast from his silence not too long ago. "You shouldn't land surprise attacks on me, holy crap man!" Clutching his stomach and stomping his feet, he looked at Karamatsu with a grin. The grin made Karamatsu smile.

"That aside," Karamatsu stood up from his seat and placed his hands on Osomatsu's shoulders, bending himself above the table, "would you do the honors of retiring and live with me?"

CRASH!

The waiter seemed to have heard that and dropped what looked to be a tray of two drinks. "O-oh, I'm so sorry," he apologized, I'll go get you two some new drinks. And also, good luck, you two!" With that he left.

Osomatsu raised an eyebrow. "...Good luck?" Then when he looked at Karamatsu, the other seemed to be holding a box. But not just any box: a small red velvet box that was opened to reveal a gold ring with a diamond and two gems beside it, one red and one blue, encased in the white cushioning of the box. At this Osomatsu was speechless.

Karamatsu, looking at Osomatsu with a facial expression that one can best describe as anxious, could only bite his lip at the sight of his boyfriend with hands to his mouth. "...will you?"

At that question, Osomatsu stood up and walked over to Karamatsu, wrapping his arms after doing so.

"Why wouldn't I?"

Notes:

Hope you liked it! Also I was informed that in Japan, proposals were subtle, like they don't outright say "will you marry me" or something, so I tried that.

Any comments/critiques you can give? Go toss them this way!
