Groovy people. I like to be around groovy, groovy people. I don't like nobody that's got an ego—
The clicking sound of the radio's off button being pressed filled the kitchen as Lou's wonderful serenade was cut short. Rolfe's tail slowly stopped swaying to the then cut off music as he looked up at the culprit.
“Fatz…” The wolf said quietly knowing that Fatz probably wasn't really paying attention to him at the moment. Fatz was on the phone with Johnny DeJockamo, his protégé. The young man was the soundman of the band and was still currently at Showbiz working on the record that was broken.
Fatz listened to Johnny but gave Rolfe a scowl at the wolf's attempt to turn back on the radio.
The gorilla groaned. “Rolfe please. It was hard to concentrate on what I'm trying to explain to Johnny while the radio's playing.” He pushed his paw away.
“Awe, but Fatz, I wanted to at least finish that song before you just cut it off like that. I'm unsatisfied.”
“Uh, Rolfe, you already listened to that song 4 times in a row… Heh, give Lou a break.”
Air blew out of Rolfe's nose at Fatz’ remark. Fatz was a funny guy, that's why Rolfe loved him so much.
Fatz’ and Johnny's conversation had died down as they fixed the problem. They were just chatting now. Despite how Rolfe used to dislike Johnny for embarrassing him during one of his shows, though Earl told Rolfe it was his own fault and not Johnny's, he can easily read the human's relationship with the gorilla like an open book. Fatz saw himself as a father figure to Johnny just like with Mitzi. The wolf slightly frowned at his mind's mention of Mitzi. He wished he had a better relationship with her since he was basically dating her adoptive dad.
Rolfe leaned back in his chair as he looked around Fatz’ house. They're in a relationship but it's a very complicated and confusing one to anyone outside of it. Maybe to most people they seem to argue more than love each other. They don't live together but they do visit each other's homes a lot. Rolfe was adamant at going to just Fatz’ house for a while because of Earl telling Fatz all his dirty secrets to get back at the wolf. When he means dirty he means really dirty. Dammit Earl…
Rolfe's ear twitched as he heard something behind him. He looked down at the door that led to the yard. It had a doggie door, Fatz had a dog? He never remembered it being there before. His eyes landed on the creature that was now in the house and froze, he let out a soft whine and his tail puffed up.
Fatz looked at his pet spider “Hey Antioch.”
He couldn't take it anymore when that thing turned to the sound of Fatz' voice.
“FATZ!! Please get it away from me!” Rolfe cried. He jumped up from his chair and slowly backed away, his eyes never leaving Antioch making sure it didn't move. He then tripped over his own feet and caught himself on Fatz’ large shoulder.
“U-Uh Rolfe? What's the matter, you know Antioch... right?” Fatz quietly but quickly told Johnny that he had to go, he hung up the phone and set it down.
The wolf in question just laid his head on the ape's neck and shivered. Rolfe was much taller than Fatz so he was hunched over awkwardly. The gorilla won't lie, he found that kinda funny. Fatz thought for a moment about all the times Rolfe stayed away from Dook's side of center stage, where Antioch always was.
“Oh, you've got Arachnophobia…” Fatz leaned his head back so he could see Rolfe in the corner of his eye. “I guess you haven't met Antioch face to face. He's usually outside or in another room when you're here. He's very independent.”
“I thought you always left him at Showbiz or something!”
Fatz laughed. “Why would I do that? He's my pet.”
Rolfe grumbled. “I don't know…”
Fatz pried Rolfe off of him then made his way to Antioch and picked him up. The spider happily let the Gorilla hold him up. How could Fatz just pick it up like that? Rolfe thought. He wished he wasn't afraid of spiders but every time he saw those ones with those long legs he felt like he could just pass out.
“Sorry about that, Antioch.”
“AWeewow, AWeewoe…” (Whatever weird sounds Antioch makes idk lmao)
“Yes Antioch, I know, Rolfe's a big meanie isn't he? Scared of my sweet baby.” Fatz cooed. “It's ok he can't really help it.”
Rolfe was perplexed. What the hell? “How do you even understand what he's saying?”
Fatz ignored him.
“Go lay down Antioch.” The spider did as he was told and went upstairs.
Fatz walked back to the table and turned the radio back on. Rolfe finally calmed down as the music came back on. He sighed and propped himself up with his elbows on the table. “I'm really sorry for freaking out like that, Fatz.”
The ape quickly interrupted him from saying anything else. “No, I should be the one that's sorry. I had no idea you were terrified of spiders.”
“But how could you know, l never told you.”
“Maybe, but I should have known judging by the way you acted when you always passed center stage. I could have asked you about it.”
“You don't need to Fatz. Look. We both have something we feel guilty about…” Rolfe got up and stood over him. “Let's call it even and move on, ok?”
Fatz looked up at him, now relaxed. “Ok.”
Now that the situation was over the wolf felt a little bit playful.
Rolfe snickered and leaned over and tilted his head. “Gimmie a kiss.”
Fatz puffed out a laugh and moved his head away from Rolfe teasingly.
“Tease…” Rolfe played along and let out a frustrated whine. “Fatzieee~ c'mon I know you wanna kiss me, pllleeeasse? This handsome lonely wolf is here with you all alone and you won't kiss him?!” Rolfe gave Fatz a pouty face with his fake offended tone.
“God, you're pathetic Rolfe.” Fatz grabbed his face and kissed Rolfe's snout. Rolfe smiled against Fatz’ lips, deepening the kiss. The gorilla's hand moved up his cheek to one of Rolfe's ears, caressing it, putting the tip of the ear in between his fingers and rubbing it. Rolfe groaned happily and licked Fatz’ lip as he pulled away. Fatz on the other hand, scowled. “I thought I told you to stop doing that. It's weird.” It didn't stop Fatz from continuing, he then moved to behind Rolfe's ear, rubbing in just the right spot.
There was a muffled pounding sound below them and Fatz looked down, Rolfe's leg thumped against the floor as Fatz pet him. Oh? Fatz started laughing hard. “Dook does that!”
Rolfe pulled his head away quickly, embarrassed. “Don't laugh! It's a reflex, I can't control it!” He started tickling Fatz mid laugh. “Nothing to be embarrassed about— Hey!– Stop!” he yelped and started giving Rolfe a taste of his own medicine. Rolfe, full of regret, backed away, holding his arms up in surrender. “Ok, ok!”
The only thing heard in the living space was the fading song and the two catching their breath.
Rolfe's ears perked up as the next song came on the radio. It was one of Frank Sinatra's most popular recordings, Fly Me to the Moon. Rolfe tapped his foot to the song and danced over to Fatz who looked amused as the wolf pulled him off the chair.
Rolfe started to sing with the music, dancing around Fatz as he did so. Rolfe definitely wasn't the best singer especially compared to most of the band but Fatz had to admit he did find his singing attractive.
“In other words, hold my hand… In other words, baby, kiss me~”
“Fill my heart with song and let me sing forever more.”
“You are all I long for. All I worship and adore.”
“In other words, please be true…”
Fatz chuckled over Rolfe's singing as the wolf continued. “Oh, come on…” The gorilla huffed.
“In other words…”
“I love you.”
Rolfe stopped singing with the music and nuzzled against Fatz face before kissing him on the forehead. If Fatz’ face wasn't so dark you would have been able to see the blush on his face. His nose flared as he grumbled something under his breath. “W…Well, u-uh, Rolfe… It's late, let's get to bed, yeah?” he stuttered but not in the way he usually does, Rolfe could tell the difference, the gorilla was flustered. He wanted to poke fun at him but thought Fatz had enough teasing for one night.
He just smiled and nodded in agreement. “Yea.”
He pressed the off button on the radio for the final time tonight and followed Fatz upstairs.
