Work Text:
“Are you alright, Uchiha? I’ve seen you in here practically every night for weeks now.”
Obito averts his gaze from the half empty glass in front of him to the person who has just sat down next to him at the bar.
Genma.
He hasn’t talked to his former classmate in quite a while if he recalls correctly.
“Genma. Good to see you.” He grins, not a single ounce of happiness behind the brightly displayed teeth. His eyes don’t crinkle up like they used to do and it’s more of an abstract grimace than a smile.
“I just come here to unwind for a bit, you know?”
Obito hopes his avoidance of the question will suffice and thankfully Genma just shrugs and orders himself a beer.
‘That’s the good thing about shinobi,’ Obito thinks, ‘nobody is ever truly fine, so they don’t question more than they have to.’
Obito doesn’t want to talk about the reasons that make him anything but alright.
He doesn’t even want to remotely think about them, but despite trying to drown out the thoughts they always keep coming back to taunt him anyway.
He hadn’t expected to find his life shattered into pieces only a few years after he had meticulously put it back together.
Coming back to Konoha had been anything but easy back when Rin had died.
But he knew it had been the right thing to do.
He had mourned her, hell, he still mourns her.
Obito knows he will miss his beloved best friend every single day for the rest of his life. He hates what this messed up world has done to her, but he tries to change it for the better every single day.
For her.
For Kakashi.
For Naruto.
For Sasuke.
For everyone.
For himself.
Him and Kakashi had slowly fought their way back into life together.
Two traumatised kids who had barely tolerated each other before, suddenly becoming each other’s lifeline.
But they had made it.
Embracing the connection they share had been what had kept them alive up until now.
Obito bites back the tears welling up in his eyes and downs the rest of his drink in one single gulp.
Thinking of Kakashi hurts his heart.
Thinking of everything that has happened in the past two years hurts his heart.
Everything they had been through made Obito want for the world to stop existing.
Even beyond these disastrous past two years.
Back when Kushina and Minato had given their life for their son, the third Hokage had assured them that Naruto would be taken care of.
But Konoha didn’t have many resources for taking care of orphans.
No safety net.
Nothing.
The baby had gone to the orphanage despite both Kakashi and Obito offering to take care of him.
In fact, the third Hokage had forbidden them from it entirely, deeming it too dangerous to make it known that Naruto was the fourth Hokage’s son.
Kakashi and Obito had been forced to watch the son of their former mentor live the same, possibly an even worse, pitiful life they too had once lived, despite being ready to step in for him at a measly 15 years old.
They had kept an eye on the boy over the years, Kakashi thankfully becoming Team 7’s mentor down the line, which had made things a little easier in the end.
A similar situation had shattered their world once more only a few years after the attack of the Kyuubi had shattered Konohagakure.
The entire Uchiha clan had been wiped out by none other than the young Itachi Uchiha himself, leaving only Obito and Itachi’s younger brother, Sasuke, to survive.
To this day nobody knew why Itachi had picked a night Obito had been out of the village on a mission and why he had spared little Sasuke’s life.
Obito had come home two days after the massacre only to get summoned by the Hokage immediately.
The traumatised Sasuke had been sitting in the Hokage’s office, completely silent und unresponsive, waiting for him.
When the third Hokage had made his proposal, Obito had wanted to pull him over that desk by the damn robe to finally knock some sense into that old man.
Scream at him that he was being unfair and that while, yes, he would take Sasuke in, he also finally wanted Naruto taken care of.
But he had stayed silent.
He had agreed to adopt the 7 year old Sasuke at only 21 years old, vowing to do everything in his power to take good care of the child.
Sasuke had been a mess and admittedly, Obito hadn’t been much better at that point.
They had barely known each other, being somewhat distant cousins at best, but somehow they had made it work.
Obito had always done his best to be a good parental figure to Sasuke.
He had doubted his abilities every single day, but he had shown up for his little cousin every single day anyway.
And in the end, all his effort seemed to be in vain.
Sasuke had chosen to leave.
Losing him had been hard on Obito.
He had always known that Sasuke was struggling, but Obito hadn’t expected for him to end up turning his back entirely.
Sasuke had left the village to join Orochimaru about two years ago.
Leads had trickled out into nothing.
And Obito has lost him to hatred and power hunger.
Sasuke is likely still alive, but it doesn’t take away Obito’s pain.
To him, Sasuke is his family.
His kid.
His kid, who’d eat all the tomatoes before Obito could get his hands on even one of them.
His kid, who’d complain about Obito’s mediocre cooking, but complained just as loudly when Obito would take him to get some ramen instead only to devour the entire bowl in a matter of minutes.
His kid, who despite the arrogant and hardened demeanour was always a soft, sensitive boy at heart that couldn’t hurt a fly if he tried.
His kid, the one he had raised for over six years and would protect with his life, even now that Sasuke has been pronounced a rogue.
Obito looks at the empty glass in his hand.
Genma has tried to talk to him again, but he can’t even hear it.
The tears in his eye are blinding him and he can’t breathe.
He needs air.
Obito pulls out some cash and slaps it on the counter.
He leaves the bar without another word, his former classmate staring after him in confusion.
It’s no secret that Obito has been through a lot, but somehow he always bounces back.
He always manages to show a bright, warming smile to everyone and help those who need it out of the pure goodness of his heart.
Seeing him drown his sorrows at Konoha’s local watering hole is disturbing to most people, to say the least.
When the freezing night air hits Obito’s face he can finally draw in a breath.
Peaceful snow is falling on Konohagakure, covering it in a beautiful white blanket.
A few years ago Obito could’ve found joy in this. He would’ve forced Kakashi to go outside with him to play in the snow, enduring the complaints about his childish behaviour, knowing that at heart Kakashi always loved his carefree side. The Hatake would join in hesitantly and they would fall into the thick snow somewhere quiet with reddened cheeks and bright smiles across their lips. Just the two of them.
But tonight the snow falling down, snowflakes catching in his thick, black hair is nothing but an inconvenience to Obito.
Stumbling forwards a few steps, the Uchiha has to admit that he’s probably had at least one too many drinks tonight.
He doesn’t care.
All he knows is that he doesn’t want to go home.
Home doesn’t feel like home any longer.
A sigh leaves Obito’s lips.
After losing everything, the one thing he never expected to lose was his lifeline.
The one he could always count on.
His partner.
Kakashi.
This time, Obito can’t hold back the tears.
Thinking about the past 15 years, Obito just can’t keep it together.
Him and Kakashi had returned to Konoha together after Rin’s death and had been inseparable ever since.
They had always leaned on each other, even Kakashi finally accepting Obito’s support.
They had moved into apartments closer to each other and had spent almost every single day together.
Their relationship had evolved gradually and somehow, with their connection deepening, love had blossomed.
Love, that had practically snuck up on Obito, hitting him flat in the face one morning as Kakashi had scolded him for putting too much sugar into his coffee after spontaneously spending the night at his apartment when it had gotten late the evening prior.
Kakashi had looked so adorable, his perfect face uncovered only in the presence of his best friend, clad in a big, comfy shirt that Obito had borrowed to him and his own black coffee in one hand, book in the other.
Obito had understood what he felt for Kakashi within the blink of an eye, heart pounding in his chest as he looked at the younger.
Obito had begun to notice every little detail about Kakashi.
The way his eyes would crinkle up ever so slightly every time he teased Obito.
The way a soft smile tugged at his lips whenever he talked about his ninken, the beauty mark under his lip being the cherry on the cake that was Kakashi’s pure perfection.
The way he’d fall asleep against Obito’s shoulder after reading his filthy books on the Uchiha’s couch for hours on end and ending up carried over to Obito’s bed with the utmost care as to not wake him.
The way Kakashi would allow for Obito, and only Obito, to hold him in his arms during the night, usually not a fan of being physically close to other people.
There are so many more things that Obito loves about Kakashi, but all they do now is hurt.
His own love like a knife, stabbing him in the heart whenever he so much as dared to think about Kakashi.
Obito hadn’t expected to fall in love with his best friend, but ultimately it had made a lot of sense.
Kakashi was his one and only.
The one person he could truly count on.
Or so Obito thought.
On Kakashi’s 19th birthday Obito had finally had enough. He had mustered up the courage and kissed Kakashi for the first time.
It had been a spur of the moment type of kiss, but to Obito it had been the best decision he had ever made in his entire life.
Kakashi had kissed him back after a moment of hesitation, complaining about the sweet taste of birthday cake on Obito’s tongue once they separated.
Obito had chuckled and kissed him again and Kakashi hadn’t minded, simply wrapping his arms around the back of the Uchiha’s neck to properly pull him in.
That night Kakashi had confessed that he had been in love with Obito since the academy.
While it surprised Obito, it had also made him insanely happy.
He had promised Kakashi right then and there that he would spent every single day of the rest of his life loving him.
Obito knew he would never break that promise.
But unfortunately, things hadn’t worked out the way he thought they would.
6 months ago, after 8 years of being a couple and 15 years of close friendship, Kakashi had broken up with him.
Obito had been blindsided, but he knows now that he should’ve seen it coming.
After losing Sasuke, it had started gradually.
The loss had hit both of them hard, but Obito thought that they could work through it together like they had with anything else. Prior to Sasuke’s betrayal he had actually prepared to propose to Kakashi, thinking that it was time to get married after being together for so many years.
But over the months affection kept declining, intimacy stopped and even their conversations eventually faded from existence.
Their shared home that had once been filled with playful teasing, loving moments and laughter became cold and silent.
Obito knew they were both at fault.
He had isolated himself after losing Sasuke and Kakashi had respected that he needed time. But when Obito had been ready to lean on his partner again, Kakashi had already turned cold.
Kakashi spent his days outside, returning late so that Obito would be asleep already, not knowing that not even once had Obito actually been asleep when Kakashi had snuck into their bed.
At a certain point he wouldn’t even bother sneaking into their shared bed anymore, simply moving into the guest room.
Obito had noticed the changes, but since they were both grieving, he had wanted to give his boyfriend some space.
Not only Obito had lost Sasuke, Kakashi had as well.
But at a certain point Obito couldn’t take it any longer.
After not even getting so much as a simple peck in over 6 weeks, Obito had finally spoken up.
His intention had been to work things out. To be there for his lover and in turn be able to lean on Kakashi once more in their life.
Like they had always done.
But when Kakashi had terminated their relationship instead, with silent tears rolling over his cheeks, Obito hadn’t known how to react.
The only person he had always been able to count on had abandoned him.
It had shattered his heart and his life into a million pieces.
Obito had accepted Kakashi’s decision with tears in his eyes, fighting them back for both of their sake.
He could tell that it had been hard on the Hatake as well.
He hadn’t even had the strength to question Kakashi’s reasoning any further.
Hearing that after 8 years of a loving relationship his ex-boyfriend believed that they were better off as friends had left a deep wound in Obito’s soul.
Not that there had been anything remotely akin of friendship between them in these past six months.
They had agreed to keep living together until they’d figure something else out, since they weren’t home most of the time anyway, but living with the love of his life without being able to hold him was pure torture to Obito.
It had been six months and he felt as broken by the break-up as he had on the first day.
Maybe he should start to slowly get over it at this point, but he just couldn’t.
Kakashi is his everything.
The love of his life.
The only person he has left.
And even he doesn’t want Obito anymore.
Obito comes to a stop, looking around for a second. His eye is still cloudy with tears.
He blinks a few times and finds himself at his own doorstep.
Despite not even wanting to go home, it’s where he ends up anyway.
Because what he craves above all is for this house to finally feel like a safe space, a home, again.
Wiping over his eyes, Obito gets out his keys, drunkenly fumbling with the lock for a few minutes before he finally manages to get in.
He doesn’t know if Kakashi is home, but if he is, he’s likely sleeping or reading in the guest room anyway.
Obito should probably start calling it ‘Kakashi’s room’ instead of ‘guest room’ at this point.
Kakashi had moved in there about a year ago after all, with Sasuke’s room down the hall, entirely untouched by either of them since his departure.
The Uchiha stumbles inside, struggling to get off his shoes for a while. When he finally manages, he huffs a little, staggering into the hallway.
Before he knows it, he loses balance by tripping over his own feet and practically crashes into the cabinet, knocking down that god-awful lamp Kakashi had brought from his own apartment when they had moved into this house together.
It breaks with a loud clatter, Obito falling over into the shards palms first.
He doesn’t even feel the cuts on his skin.
He doesn’t try to get up.
He just starts bawling his eyes out.
If this moment isn’t the perfect metaphor for his life right now, he doesn’t know what is.
__
Kakashi bolts down the stairs upon hearing the commotion. He finds his ex-boyfriend-slash-roommate, in the hallway, hands bloody and big tears rolling down his cheeks. There’s shards of his old, ugly lamp scattered on the ground and Obito is sitting next to the mess.
The wounds on his hands are trying to close, the Hashirama cells in his body working hard, but the glass stuck in the skin is keeping them from doing their job.
“What the hell happened?” Kakashi asks with a little bit of panic in his voice.
Obito only cries more.
He doesn’t even look up, but hearing Kakashi’s voice after months of awkward silence is breaking his heart even more.
Kakashi feels helpless.
Obito has always cried easily, but he had toughened up over the years.
The last time he had seen the man cry had been when he had given up on getting Sasuke back.
Obito hadn’t even shed a single tear during their break up.
He had seemed entirely numb.
The Hatake doesn’t know what to do, but steps closer anyway. Once he squats down he can tell that Obito reeks of alcohol.
Kakashi sighs.
“Are you drunk?” He asks, trying to seem nonchalant, when in reality he couldn’t be more worried.
It’s not like he doesn’t know that Obito comes home entirely drunk at least every other night.
Kakashi has definitely noticed, but has stopped himself from interfering up until tonight.
Obito is an adult and they are no longer a couple, so he has no say in this.
Although he wonders how Obito has ended up with alcohol as some sort of coping mechanism, considering he can barely handle a beer and a half.
Kakashi remembers having to take a drunk Obito home after a tiny amount of alcohol more than once.
Obito sniffles a little, wiping at his face with the bloody hands.
“I just had a couple drinks, no big deal…” he brings out, speech slurring and Kakashi shakes his head.
Grabbing Obito’s wrists he stops the man from trying to touch his own face, fearing he’ll blind himself entirely if he keeps rubbing at it with the glass stuck in his palms.
And the man only has one eye left to begin with.
“Stop that, you’ll hurt yourself even more.” Kakashi scolds, trying to pull the man up to his feet.
Obito is heavy, but Kakashi manages.
“Just leave me alone.” Obito pleads. It doesn’t even sound condescending. It sounds pitiful and Kakashi feels like someone has just driven a knife into his heart.
“Stop being silly, you’re hurt and drunk off your ass. Let me help you.” Kakashi tries to stay stern as he leads Obito to the bathroom.
Kakashi makes the tall man sit down on the closed toilet lid and he can’t help but be surprised at how compliant Obito is being.
He’s still sobbing and crying, but he lets Kakashi do what needs to be done.
It breaks Kakashi’s heart seeing him like this.
But the Hatake pulls through, clearing Obito’s wounds of the glass shards and cleaning them afterwards. It only takes a few minutes for them to finally heal up, but Kakashi is careful nonetheless.
He looks at Obito’s hands and face still smeared with blood and wets a washcloth to help clean him up.
“Look at me.” Kakashi demands, forcing Obito to lift his head a little.
Tears are still streaming down that handsome face as Kakashi cleans him of the blood he’d spread there.
Avoiding him for so long, Kakashi has almost forgotten just how handsome his ex-boyfriend really is.
Seeing him like this makes Kakashi want to cradle the other’s face and kiss him until he finally stops crying.
But Kakashi knows he shouldn’t.
“Can you please…” Obito huffs, thinking for a moment to find the right words, “Just tell me what I did, yeah?” He sobs out, another wave of cries falling over him.
“I just… I just want you back, Kashi. I promise I’ll make it right. I’ll do anything.” Obito is practically begging and to say that Kakashi is taken aback is an understatement.
Their break up had taken place months ago and Obito hadn’t claimed wanting him back even once.
Kakashi had broken his own heart with the end of this relationship, but he truly thought he had done what needed to be done.
He loves Obito with all of his heart and he knows he always will. But he also knows that had things gone differently he wouldn’t have been the one that Obito would’ve chosen to be with.
In fact, he had wondered every single day of their eight year long relationship why Obito had even wanted to date him in the first place.
No matter how he looked at it, Kakashi found himself to be the root of all Obito’s misery.
He had been the reason Obito had been crushed and had only one eye.
He had killed Rin.
He had failed to save Kushina and Minato.
He had been unable to raise and protect Naruto.
He had failed Sasuke, leading to his betrayal.
Every bad thing that had happened to Obito could be linked back to Kakashi.
And quite frankly, the love of his life deserved better than that.
Kakashi had always known that Obito deserved someone better than him, but up until recent events he had been too selfish to accept that reality.
Maybe Obito had simply chosen him because they had spent so much time together that he had eventually warmed up enough to date him.
Kakashi couldn’t blame the man for having needs after all and Kakashi had always been more than willing to give Obito his all.
Kakashi didn’t know what it was, but after yet another thing he had ruined for Obito, he just couldn’t bring himself to force Obito to stay with him any longer.
He had to take a step back.
The withdrawal had been gradual.
Obito had been rather used to Kakashi’s closeness, but the Hatake had slowly weaned them off of it.
And when Obito had finally spoken up he had dropped the bomb.
He had expected more pushback, but Obito simply accepting his decision to terminate their relationship had only confirmed Kakashi’s suspicions.
Obito had never truly wanted him.
While it hurt, he couldn’t blame the man.
Kakashi wouldn’t want himself either.
But hearing Obito beg for him back now feels entirely surreal.
“What… what do you mean? You didn’t do anything.” Kakashi finally answers, Obito shakily grabbing onto his hands.
Obito sobs quietly, pulling Kakashi a little closer.
It’s torture for both of them.
They haven’t really touched each other in over 8 months and yet Obito’s fingertips feel like they belong onto Kakashi’s skin.
The younger wants nothing more than to finally enjoy Obito’s touch again, but he has to stay strong.
The Uchiha shakes his head.
“There must be something…!” He argues, “You… you wouldn’t just drop me like that, Kashi. I promise, I’ll do anything to make it right. You’re my everything.” Obito is stumbling over his words, but Kakashi hears everything loud and clear.
“Obito…” He sighs, “You didn’t do anything. There’s nothing to make right, I promise.”
“Then why don’t you want me anymore?” The Uchiha sniffles, grasp on Kakashi’s hands tightening uncontrollably.
Kakashi doesn’t know what to say.
The older is drunk off his ass and is probably just talking out of pocket. He should just get him to bed.
“Let’s get you to bed.” Kakashi pulls Obito up to stand, “You really can’t hold your liquor, can you?” He mumbles, pulling the Uchiha along towards their former shared bedroom. The stairs are a challenge, but Kakashi is determined and Obito is still being strangely obedient.
He sits Obito down on the edge of the bed, helping him out of the flak jacket and the forehead protector.
Obito is rubbing at his tear stained eyes, but it’s no use.
The tears won’t stop flowing.
“Please…” Obito mumbles, tugging at Kakashi’s heartstrings, “I need you. You’re all I have.”
Obito sounds a little clearer now, taking Kakashi’s hand again.
“I love you so much. Please give me one more chance.”
“You’re just saying that because you’re drunk, Obito. You’re better off without the baggage that is me.” Kakashi finally answers, feeling himself being yanked forward into Obito’s arms.
The strong arms wrapping around him, engulfing him in their warmth, bring tears to Kakashi’s eyes.
It’s all he wants, but he has to stay strong and refuse.
“Please don’t make this harder than it has to be, Bito.” He pleads, trying to pull away.
Despite his drunken state, Obito doesn’t budge, pulling Kakashi into bed with him and holding him close.
“You’re not baggage to me.” He says firmly, squeezing the younger man tighter, “You’re the love of my life. I don’t… I don’t want to live without being able to love you.”
The words hit Kakashi like a ton of bricks.
Had he really made the wrong choice for Obito?
He hasn’t even considered that up until now.
“Obito, I-”
Before another word can leave Kakashi’s lips, Obito’s hot, liquor-stained mouth has already shut him up.
It’s probably the least pleasant kiss Kakashi has ever received from the man, but it still soothes his aching heart.
He doesn’t even remember the last time they have kissed, but Kakashi has missed it so much.
He can’t even force himself to hold back from kissing Obito back.
When they separate after minutes, Obito has finally stopped crying.
“You shouldn’t have done that.” Kakashi sighs.
“You kissed me back.” Obito counters, already leaning in to kiss Kakashi again.
“Stop.” Kakashi turns his head away a little, causing Obito to deflate for a moment.
But the Uchiha can’t stop now.
He needs more.
Instead of kissing Kakashi’s lips, he kisses along his jaw, pushing the younger into the sheets and pinning him down with his body weight.
Obito had seemed so drunk mere moments ago, that Kakashi is a little surprised at the secure moves.
But even though the man could never hold his alcohol, the Hashirama cells also metabolise alcohol a lot faster than the average human body.
Maybe that was already taking effect.
Kakashi is torn between enjoying the warm and wet lips mouthing along his neck and wanting to force himself out of the enjoyment.
He is easily strong enough to put a stop to this if he really wants to, but somehow he can’t.
He can’t physically force himself to shove Obito away, when Obito is all that he wants.
“Obito, this isn’t a good idea.” Kakashi tries to reason, but his voice has softened and a gentle sigh is lacing into it.
Obito can tell that Kakashi is enjoying this. He doesn’t want it to stop, despite saying so.
He knows very well that the Hatake could just put an end to it if he wanted. Obito isn’t trying to restrain him much anyway.
“I don’t care.” The Uchiha mumbles, sucking at Kakashi’s neck to leave him with a hickey.
Even if this ends up being a one time thing, he wants Kakashi to remember it for a few more days.
A shaky moan leaves the younger’s lips upon the harsh sucks to his neck and Obito separates with a satisfied smirk, only to mark the next patch of pale skin.
Kakashi had always rather liked that when they had still been intimate and he is clearly still liking it now.
Kakashi can’t bring himself to stop Obito, only realising what is happening when the older suddenly yanks his shirt off of him.
He watches with wide eyes as Obito discards his own top, leaning back down to Kakashi with a gentle look in his eyes.
“I love you so much, Kakashi.” He mumbles, cupping Kakashi’s face in his hands. He strokes over the scar beneath Kakashi’s right eye, and Kakashi opens his right eye for him. Obito admireshis own Sharingan looking back at him for a second.
The Uchiha clan had tried to force him to take it back, but Obito had blatantly refused.
He wanted Kakashi to keep it.
It signifies their connection and Obito couldn’t bear to see that severed ever.
No matter what happened between them, he refuses to take the most important and selfless gift he had ever given anyone back for himself.
“I love you too, Obito.” Kakashi’s voice is but a whisper, but it causes hope to blossom in Obito’s heart.
Kakashi still loves him.
He still has a chance to get him back.
The Uchiha crashes his lips into Kakashi’s and neither of them can hold back.
Hot mouths nip at each other again and again.
Teeth pull and tongues twist, the familiarity, despite the time that has passed, bringing both of them comfort.
Kakashi feels like he is losing his mind.
Obito’s kisses feel too good to be true and the older’s hands roaming his body make him want to give in, even if just for tonight.
But he also knows that if it truly is just for one night, it’ll leave them even more broken than before.
“Obito, wait…” Kakashi whines as Obito licks at his right nipple.
“What’s wrong?” The Uchiha huffs.
Obito looks absolutely mesmerising.
His cheeks are flushed from both his alcohol buzz and also from their heated make out. His eye looks glassy and his expression is a little dazed.
He is entirely high on Kakashi.
“We need to stop.” Kakashi tries again, but Obito just looks at him with one weary eye.
“Why?” He asks, seeming annoyed, “We clearly both want this. There’s no reason to stop.”
Kakashi sighs softly.
He can’t deny that he does want Obito. He always has and he always will.
Finally feeling him close again would be a dream come true.
“You’re drunk as hell and I just don’t think it’s a good idea. We’re broken up, we shouldn’t do any of this.” The Hatake explains, and Obito feels hurt and anger bubble up inside his stomach.
“You said you love me.” His voice breaks a little and Kakashi feels sorry.
“I do. But it doesn’t change anything. We… we shouldn’t do this.” Kakashi tries to get up, but this time Obito actually grabs his wrists and pins him to the mattress.
It’s not a malicious act, but a desperate one.
“Kakashi, please, tell me what happened.” Obito pleads, “I can’t live like this, I need you.”
“You lost everything because of me, that’s what happened!” Kakashi finally blurts out, a few tears spilling from his eyes, “I don’t deserve you.”
Obito’s grip softens, his fingers sliding into Kakashi’s hands to lace together with the Hatake’s.
Now it’s Kakashi who can’t help but cry.
He hadn’t wanted to let Obito know that this was the real reason he had broken up with him.
But the Uchiha had always had a talent for prodding until he lost his temper.
“Why would you even think that?” Obito finally asks, suddenly feeling entirely sober, like someone had knocked the buzz right out of him within the second.
He had been able to tell that Kakashi had struggled with the break up as well, but he would’ve never suspected that something like this could’ve been the cause.
If anything he had felt like he was the root cause of all the bad things that had happened.
Obito’s gentle fingers lacing into Kakashi’s make him feel even worse for the decision he’s made.
He never wants to let go again.
“Isn’t it obvious?” Kakashi sobs, “You got crushed because of me, I killed Rin, I couldn’t save Minato and Kushina, I couldn’t raise Naruto, I couldn’t keep Sasuke in the village… it’s all me. Everything bad is because of me.”
Obito quickly sits up and pulls Kakashi with him.
He engulfs Kakashi in a big hug and feels tears prickling at his eyes again.
“None of that is your fault.” Obito assures, stroking Kakashi’s back as he silently cries into his naked shoulder.
Kakashi doesn’t answer and Obito just holds him close for a while.
He has missed the other in his arms, so he tries to enjoy it despite the crying and the inner pain.
When Kakashi lifts his head to look at him, Obito feels as though he has never seen the other quite so emotional.
Seeing Kakashi cry is already a rare occasion, but right now he is also carrying all the pain and the guilt on his face so openly.
“How can you say that? I failed you so many times. You lost them all because of me.” Kakashi sniffles softly, a surprised groan leaving his mouth when Obito kisses him again.
“That’s not true. It’s this… fucked up world that ripped them from both of us. You lost them too.” Obito grits his teeth a little, “Is this why you broke up with me? Because you think I deserve better?”
Obito has to know. Because if that’s the case, he’ll consider this relationship resumed.
Hell, he’ll consider these past six months a rough patch and not a breakup.
When Kakashi nods, a giant weight is lifted off of Obito’s shoulders.
“Oh my fucking god…” He whispers as he presses Kakashi against his chest, “How could you ever think that? You’re the best thing that has ever happened to me.”
Kakashi finally hugs back and Obito breaks down in tears once more.
“Fuck…” He curses in between sobs, “You’re my everything, Kashi. How can you not see that? I’m a terrible boyfriend, huh?”
Kakashi cradles Obito’s face in his hands, thumbs wiping at the tears that escape.
“Don’t say that. You’re an amazing boyfriend.” He assures, “But you really do deserve better than some leftover guy who has cost you more than he’s worth.”
“Don’t you dare talk about the love of my life like that ever again.” Obito warns in a serious tone, causing Kakashi to waver a bit.
“You’re not ‘some leftover guy’.” He continues, “You’re the reason I’m still alive and I don’t want to live in a world where I don’t belong to you. I never want to be with anyone but you, Kakashi. Do you actually believe that I’d just choose you, because you’re the only one that’s ‘left’? Have you seen yourself? Have you been with yourself? I’m the luckiest man alive. I clearly didn’t show you how much I love you, if this is what you think.” Obito sighs, gladly accepting the kiss that Kakashi presses onto his lips.
“You did show me, but I still believed it was better that way. Losing Sasuke… it was the last straw. I made you lose your kid, Obito.”
“Sasuke’s choice had nothing to do with you. Or me, or anyone.” Obito had spent every single day thinking about this and ultimately he understood the choice Sasuke had made.
He might not have chosen differently.
He almost hadn’t back when Rin had died.
“There was nothing you could’ve done, Kashi. I know you tried your best, but trauma like that can’t be erased… we both know that. He made his choice. All we can do is hope that we’ll get him back one day.”
Obito still firmly believes that one day he’ll get to force Sasuke into another bone crushing hug, that the younger complains about but secretly enjoys, again because it’s what he has to hold onto.
He has to hold onto the fact that he’ll get to hold the child he raised in his arms again.
That he’ll get to complain about Sasuke stealing all his tomatoes again.
That he’ll get to carry the boy home after an exhausting day of training.
And that he will get to see Sasuke finally surrounded by actual family, friends and people who love him, and that this time around it’ll be enough to heal the soul of the deeply traumatised child that he is.
Obito is glad that Sasuke has one true friend already, despite Sasuke not even wanting that connection.
Naruto has left the village for the sole purpose of getting stronger to get his friend back and Obito is behind him on that.
He’ll support him however he can every step of the way.
“I’m sorry I made you feel like you weren’t that important to me.” Obito finally says, remembering how apathetic he had been right after Sasuke leaving.
Back when Kakashi had still tried to be close, but had given up a few months in.
“That’s not what happened.” Kakashi says firmly, “If anything, I’m sorry for abandoning you. I thought I was making the right decision for your wellbeing, but clearly I was wrong.”
The two share an emotionally loaded kiss, Obito still refusing to let go of Kakashi.
They just hold each other in silence for a while, recalling everything that had just been revealed.
From almost relapsing into having rushed, messy sex over to finally telling their true feelings, it had been one hell of a ride for one night.
“In case I haven’t made myself clear yet: I don’t accept your breakup any longer. In fact, you never stopped being my boyfriend.” Obito finally speaks up again and Kakashi actually chuckles a little.
“Do I get a say?” He challenges, earning a scoff from Obito.
“Absolutely not. You’re mine. No more breakups, you’re stuck with me. Forever.”
Kakashi smirks softly, pulling Obito into another kiss.
He knows he will never be free of the doubts in his mind, but hearing Obito state his desire for having Kakashi in his life so clearly was reassuring.
The two tumble back into the sheets, but the kisses are no longer heated.
They’re full of love and relief.
The thought of having sex has disappeared from either of their minds. All they need is to be able to hold each other.
“I think we should sleep, you were pretty drunk.” Kakashi mumbles in between kisses, earning a whine from Obito.
“Ugh… okay, yeah I guess you’re right.”
Kakashi ends up putting on his shirt again, quickly getting out some comfortable clothes for Obito as well before the two get into bed.
Obito is still refusing to not hold Kakashi and the Hatake can’t bring himself to mind.
He has truly missed this a lot.
“I love you.”
“I love you too.”
The two fall asleep finally feeling at peace in over a year again.
__
The first few days are still a bit awkward.
Obito and Kakashi have avoided talking to each other for so long, that suddenly going back feels unnatural.
But they’re trying.
Trying to find their way back into the relationship they’d once had and trying to find their way back into a comfortable place.
Physical intimacy is innocent and very tame.
More innocent than it has ever been, Kakashi would argue.
Even as young, inexperienced adults during their first days and weeks of dating they had done more risqué things already.
It’s mostly just quick pecks and holding each other close during the night. But it’s what works.
Obito notices that he can finally get some quality sleep in again, with his boyfriend cuddled up in his arms and Kakashi has to admit that he feels the same.
But he wants more.
He has always been the ‘hornier’ (or ‘perverted’, as Obito likes to call it) one out of the two and finally feeling Obito that close again has him yearning for those hands on his body.
He knows that Obito is deliberately avoiding sex, probably to show Kakashi that it wasn’t what he was after, but the Hatake can barely take it any longer.
He should’ve kept his mouth shut the other night and simply let a drunk Obito fuck him senseless, but of course he had to stop the other.
It’s almost three weeks later when Kakashi finally snaps.
He has been trying to seduce Obito, but either the Uchiha has become even more clueless than before or is deliberately trying to make him lose his mind.
Kakashi has tried almost everything, but Obito always brings them back to a comfortable level the second Kakashi tries to heat things up.
They have made out at most and it’s just not going to suffice any longer.
It’s Kakashi’s day off and he’s lounging in the living room with his book, when a sweaty and all too hot looking Obito comes home from his mission.
Obito is still working hard to become the next Hokage and so far it’s looking good for him.
When the third Hokage was killed Obito had been deemed too young for the position, so the current Hokage is Tsunade Senju.
She has already deemed either Obito or Kakashi to be potential successors and since the Hatake doesn’t want the position, it will likely end up being Obito.
But the Uchiha still does his best to better the world every single day as much as he can. It’s also why becoming Hokage is still his dream.
He resents the current shinobi world for what it has done to him and his loved ones and wants to be the one to finally change something.
Kakashi loves that about him.
God, he loves Obito so much.
So when his boyfriend comes in, flak jacket and shoes left by the door, the tight, slightly sweat-damp turtleneck clinging to his bulky arms and chest, Kakashi feels his mouth run dry.
He’s been reading all day and maybe that too hasn’t helped his horniness, but he feels like he’s about to burst from all this pent up frustration.
“Hey.” Obito grins, quickly shuffling over to the couch to greet Kakashi with a kiss. The way he leans down has Kakashi feeling weak in the knees, and he tries to prolong the kiss as much as he can. It’s not a quick peck like usual, but a soft and warm mesh of lips that earns him a content sigh from his lover. He traces Obito’s chest for a second, swooning over the muscular pecs in his mind.
“Hi.” Kakashi whispers against his lips, lulling Obito into another kiss.
“Wow.” Obito mumbles, “What’s with the gentleness all of a sudden?” He giggles when he separates, leaving Kakashi hanging.
“I’m glad to see my boyfriend.” Kakashi shrugs, earning another kiss to the top of his head.
“I’m glad to see you too, Kashi.” Obito smiles, “I’ll take a quick shower, yeah?”
And with that announcement Obito is gone and Kakashi’s feels like his blood is on fire.
The Hatake wracks his brain and decides that he will have to get more obvious if he wants to finally get laid again.
So he quickly relocates to their bedroom, knowing it’s where Obito will go after his shower to get dressed and prepares for his boyfriends arrival.
Obito almost has a heart attack when he sees Kakashi lounging on their shared bed, waiting for him.
Not only had he expected for the younger to stay in the living room, but he also hadn’t expected to see him wearing just one of Obito’s big shirts and, as far as Obito can tell, nothing else.
Kakashi is lying on his belly, still reading his smutty book when Obito enters the room with just a towel wrapped around his hips.
Just as Kakashi had anticipated.
Funnily enough, the whole situation reminds him of their very first time.
Back then Kakashi had also been the main initiator, driving the nervous, but also horny, Obito absolutely insane with his teasing nature until he finally snapped.
“Kashi? Wha-… uh…” Obito is speechless and Kakashi enjoys it, probably a little too much.
“Ah there you are, Bito.” Kakashi purrs, putting his book away and quickly scooting over to the edge of the bed to sit down right in front of Obito.
His boyfriend is practically frozen in place, looking at Kakashi with a widened eye.
“I missed you today.” Kakashi’s voice has never sounded sweeter to Obito and in any other case he would’ve thought that it doesn’t fit his boyfriend at all.
But with the bedroom eyes looking up at him, Kakashi’s hands grabbing onto his hips and those perfect lips dragging over Obito’s abs, the sweetness makes a lot of sense.
Kakashi is trying to get laid.
And to say that Obito’s is overwhelmed feels like an understatement.
He has done his best to take it slow these past three weeks, but it’s starting to crumble with every kiss the younger presses to his lower abdomen.
Kakashi has always been extremely good at seducing him and Obito knows if Kakashi really wants to have sex, he won’t be able to deny him.
Obito laces his hand into Kakashi’s hair, grabbing a fistful to tilt his head back, forcing the Hatake to look up at him. A lazy smirk is gracing those perfectly plush lips and Obito has to stop and admire his boyfriend’s beauty for a moment.
He has always wondered how a person this beautiful could possibly pick him over anyone else.
Kakashi always has his mask on in public, but whoever gets graced with the sight of his face, is enamored.
Maybe Obito is a bit prouder than he should be, that he gets to see Kakashi’s face the most.
He is, quite literally, perfect.
Obito, on the other hand, feels like he couldn’t be further away from perfection.
Scarred face, patchy mismatched skin, a missing eye.
The Uchiha can’t help but wonder what his boyfriend sees whenever he calls him ‘handsome’.
But this is no time to dwell on that.
“What do you think you’re doing?” Obito asks, cocking an eyebrow at his boyfriend. Kakashi’s hands wander towards the edge of the towel, slowly undoing the tuck.
“What does it look like?” He teases, slowly taking the towel off of his lover and tossing it aside without a care.
He hasn’t seen Obito naked in a long time and he’s still so damn beautiful.
The muscular, broad build, the unique mismatched skin, the gentle look on his face and that perfect, big cock.
Kakashi doesn’t know how has he survived for over a year without this.
“You know what it looks like, pervert.” Obito tugs on Kakashi’s hair a little harsher, causing the younger to gasp softly.
“Mh…” Kakashi hums, his thumbs massaging Obito’s hipbones a little as his eyes skim over his body, “But it looks like I might not be the only pervert here. What is this?”
Kakashi’s smirks as he closes his fingers around Obito’s growing erection, giving him a few dry, lazy strokes. The older lets out a shaky moan, a small curse leaving his lips.
“Fuck… Kashi, I was trying to take things slow.” Obito hisses, the dry strokes feeling a little uncomfortable, but also embarrassingly exciting.
Good god, Kakashi has it way too easy with him.
“I know.” Kakashi purrs, “But I don’t want you to do that. I need you.”
The younger licks his lips before pressing them to the tip of Obito’s dick, tongue darting out to tease the sensitive skin. When Kakashi closes his lips around the head of Obito’s cock, the grip on his hair tightens even further and he can’t begin to describe just how excited that has him.
He sinks his mouth down on Obito’s length, pressing his tongue to the shaft and tries to keep eye contact with the older.
Obito feels like he might cum on the spot, but somehow manages to keep it together.
He doesn’t even remember the last time they’d had sex, so finally being able to do this again feels ridiculously exciting.
Obito actually finds himself a little nervous.
It stupid, because he’s almost thirty and this isn’t their first time. And yet it feels like it might as well be.
Kakashi sucks him off just how Obito likes it and he’s a mess within a matter of minutes.
The Hatake has always had a bit of an obsession with sucking Obito’s dick and he can’t complain.
Kakashi is amazing at it, Obito’s length disappearing in his mouth and throat entirely with ease.
The obscene slurping and soft gagging drive Obito crazy as he moves Kakashi’s head with the grip he has on his hair.
The younger loves it.
Loves to be takes advantage of by the older. To be used for Obito’s pleasure is what gives him pleasure.
When Obito whines out and his abs contract, Kakashi knows what’s coming, pulling back a little and letting Obito cum in his mouth.
And he cums hard.
Kakashi greedily swallows every last drop, a little surprised at how much Obito pumps out.
“Damn…” He sighs after sucking him clean, “That was a lot.”
Kakashi smirks up at the furiously blushing Obito, finally getting shoved onto the mattress only a moment later.
“Well, I haven’t gotten my dick sucked in over a year.” Obito’s says sheepishly, crawling onto the bed, “Or anything else for that matter.”
Kakashi accepts the open-mouthed kiss Obito presses onto his lips, a demanding tongue slipping into his mouth. The younger is painfully hard, erection straining against his abdomen, only covered by the oversized shirt that doesn’t belong to him, and Obito manages to arouse him even further with his steamy kisses.
“That’s good.” Kakashi smiles in between kisses, “Because neither have I.”
He knows it’s selfish, but he’s glad that Obito hasn’t been with anyone else during their six month breakup.
Kakashi has also never considered it himself, so knowing that they’re still the only ones to have touched and tasted each other is reassuring.
“Thank god…” Obito mutters, kissing and biting along Kakashi’s neck.
Obito has always been extremely jealous.
Kakashi should’ve taken that as a sign that Obito did truly want him all along, but somehow it only clicks right now.
The Uchiha had never liked it when he would talk to Iruka or Tenzo. He had also picked a fight with Asuma more than once, for being ‘too close’ with Kakashi, despite knowing that Asuma is with Kurenai.
Obito had regularly complained about Guy’s obsession with being Kakashi’s eternal rival and their competitions.
He had also never liked the fact that Kakashi was, albeit involuntarily, a heartthrob to both men and women alike.
Kakashi has almost lost count of how many people Obito has scared off with his raging jealousy, but practically the whole village knows that Kakashi is with Obito, simply because of that.
So him being glad that Kakashi hadn’t been with anyone else makes more than a little sense.
“Because I would’ve had to kill anyone who dared to touch you.” Obito’s whisper might’ve sounded like a joke to someone else, but Kakashi wouldn’t put it past the Uchiha.
While he is a genuinely good person, he has his dark moments and someone else touching Kakashi could easily make him snap.
God, how had he not seen just how much Obito loves him?
The Uchiha is marking up his neck, tugging on the shirt to have more access to his pale skin without taking it off. Kakashi leans back his head, enjoying the older working on his skin. Obito’s hands are starting to roam, slipping under the shirt to touch more of his boyfriend’s bare skin.
And to Kakashi that feels like finally being able to breathe again.
It’s not just the horniness that needs soothing, it’s also the profound desire to be close to Obito again.
Kakashi has never been very good with showing his emotions, so he needs this in order to show Obito just how much he loves him.
Obito on the other hand, has always felt and shown his emotions explosively. It’d be a lie to say that he handles emotions well, because he doesn’t, he just doesn’t really hide them.
Sex seems to be their common ground. It’s when they can comfortably show their feelings for one another, private and intimate.
A surprised moan leaves Kakashi’s lips when Obito shoves the shirt up to his neck and grinds their bare cocks together.
“Oh fuck…~” Kakashi curses, “You’re already hard again?”
“Yeah…? You know I don’t need that much time in between…” Obito chuckles under his breath and continues rutting against Kakashi.
Kakashi does know that.
It has always been both a blessing and a curse, mainly because at a certain point he will always struggle to keep up with Obito.
The Uchiha’s accelerated healing sure has a lot of benefits.
“You look amazing, Kashi.” Obito grins, enjoying the desperate mewls that leave his boyfriends mouth.
Without wasting any more time, Obito grabs onto Kakashi’s hips, and shuffles them further onto the bed.
The Hatake is now lying with his head in the pillows, looking up at his lover who is nestled between his legs.
Obito leans down to catch Kakashi’s lips in a loving kiss and the younger feels like his whole body is burning up. He snakes his arms around the back of Obito’s neck and pulls him closer, their tongues dancing around each other with perfect familiarity.
When Obito separates and reaches for the nightstand almost automatically, he suddenly wavers.
An awkward clearing of his throat follows.
“Not to kill the mood but… I don’t think I have any lube here.”
Obito doesn’t know why, but he’s a little embarrassed.
His grief had killed his libido over these past months, so he had simply tossed the expired, almost empty tube out and hadn’t bothered to replace it.
But Kakashi only chuckles.
“I thought you might say that.” He smirks, “But I bought a new one.”
“Of course you did.” Obito laughs a little under his breath, getting the new tube out of the drawer. Looking at it, Obito furrows his brows.
“Have you used it already?” It certainly doesn’t look unopened.
“Yeah.” Kakashi presses a hot kiss onto his lips, “While you were in the shower, I took the chance and already prepped myself.”
The suggestive whisper has Obito beet red in the face.
“You’re unbelievable.” He mumbles, cheeks hot with embarrassment. Kakashi really had known all along that Obito wouldn’t have said ‘no’ to him in any case.
“Can’t blame a man for not wanting to waste any time.”
Obito knows very well that Kakashi can get really impatient, so he isn’t that surprised that the younger has already taken some action.
“Please just fuck me, Bito. I need it.” Kakashi pleads and Obito feels lightheaded.
But he nods, because he too needs it.
Needs to feel close.
“Need you too.” Obito mumbles, opening the lube and generously spreading some onto his dick. He watches Kakashi spread and angle his legs further, granting Obito the perfect view of the prepped hole fluttering in anticipation.
“Fuck, you’re actually insane…” Obito curses, guiding his tip towards Kakashi’s entrance. The Hatake gasps ecstatically as the tip of Obito’s thick cock pushes inside, stretching him out just the way he needs.
He has missed the other so much.
But just as Obito presses inside further, Kakashi’s mood drastically changes.
Obito’s eyes are closed, so he doesn’t see the tears collecting in Kakashi’s eyes.
He doesn’t see his expression soften as he reaches up to cup Obito’s face in his hands.
He can’t tell just yet, just how emotional and vulnerable Kakashi suddenly feels, now that his lover is finally this close to him again.
When Obito bottoms out, a small groan leaves his lips. Kakashi engulfs him perfectly, snug walls gripping onto his dick tightly.
It’s dizzying.
But when he opens his eyes, panic overcomes Obito.
“Hey, hey… what’s wrong? Am I hurting you?!” He asks, gently kissing the palm that is cupping his cheek.
“No… no, don’t worry.” Kakashi shakes his head with a sniffle, a few tears rolling down his cheeks.
“Hey, Kashi, what’s wrong?” Obito prods again, his voice softening as he leans down to press a small kiss onto Kakashi’s lips.
“I missed you so much, Bito.” Kakashi sobs, wiping at his eyes without it being much use.
Tears keep flowing and he can’t do anything about it.
A warm smile graces Obito’s lips.
“I missed you too.” He whispers, catching his lover’s lips in another kiss. It’s salty from Kakashi’s tears, but Obito doesn’t mind.
It only makes him more emotional, feeling tears prickle at his own eyes.
“I’ll never let you go ever again.” Obito promises, hushed against Kakashi’s lips and the younger takes his word for it.
“I love you.” Kakashi sniffles out, his fingertips wandering over Obito’s chest, his shoulders and ultimately coming to rest on the back of his neck.
“I love you too.” Obito assures, before he pulls out all but the tip, hips slamming forwards into the tight heat. Kakashi’s loud, desperate moans fill the room as Obito fucks him, trying to find a rhythm that works for both of them.
He isn’t gentle, but that’s exactly what Kakashi likes and needs and Obito knows that. The Hatake’s short nails dig into Obito’s back, his head thrown back into the pillows. His lover hits his prostate roughly every other thrust in and it’s making him see stars.
“More… please more…~!” Kakashi pleads, more tears spilling from his eyes. Obito complies, like he always does, eager to please, fingers bruising Kakashi’s hips as he holds him in place.
Kakashi feels as though he can feel Obito’s love echo through his body with every sharp thrust, the pleasure shooting electrifying sensations up and down his spine.
Obito gasps and moans, the clenches around his dick making it hard to adhere to a nice rhythm, but Obito manages. He can now feel a few tears escaping from his own eyes.
When he catches Kakashi’s lips for another wet, messy kiss, swallowing the moans from his lover’s lips, Kakashi clenches around him even tighter. The younger can barely concentrate on the kisses, gasping and breathing into Obito’s mouth heavily.
He feels ridiculously close to his orgasm, but also doesn’t want to let go just yet.
Kakashi wishes this could last forever, that Obito could stay this close to him until the end of time. He wants to curse himself out for ever letting the man go and swears to himself that he will never let go of Obito ever again.
Obito takes a good look at his lover.
Kakashi’s eyes are rolling back and his mouth is slightly agape. He’s still wearing Obito’s shirt, shoved up to reveal his chest. The Uchiha had deliberately not taken it off of him, as it made him feel all kinds of possessive to see his lover wear his clothes while getting this wrecked.
Kakashi is so beautiful and he’s all Obito’s.
“You’re so beautiful.” Obito purrs, fingers wrapping around Kakashi’s shaft to stroke him simultaneously to his deep, mind-numbing thrusts, “Why don’t you cum for me?”
Obito’s smirk sends Kakashi flying over the edge. He cums hard, all over his own torso and Obito’s hand, a breathless moan escaping his lips.
Obito doesn’t stop thrusting into him, causing him to twitch in overstimulation. The older is forced to slow down a little as the tight walls clamp around him, afraid he’ll hurt his lover if he keeps it up like before.
Obito too doesn’t need much longer, spilling his load deep inside of Kakashi with a low groan.
A small whimper leaves Kakashi’s lips as Obito’s rides out their high, the warm seed that fills him causing him to shudder.
When Obito’s hips come to a halt he takes a moment to catch his breath, fingers still digging into Kakashi’s hips.
The second he tries to pull out, the younger’s legs suddenly wrap around him, forcing him to stay close.
“No… not yet.” Kakashi whispers and Obito understands.
He agrees that they can stay entangled like this a little longer.
The Uchiha smirks softly as he leans in for another kiss.
Kakashi gladly welcomes his lips, the mouths meshing in comfort rather than lust now.
“Feel okay?” Obito mumbles against Kakashi’s lips, earning a soft chuckle.
“Yeah.”
And just for a moment, both of them feel as though nothing in the world is wrong, being able to simply enjoy the closeness and comfort of each other.
__
More weeks pass and eventually things start to feel like they have never been separated.
The love that had first been on hold and then terminated has finally bloomed again.
But Kakashi notices that Obito is overly conscious of the ways he’s making Kakashi feel.
The Uchiha wants his boyfriend to be able to tell how much he loves and appreciates him. He wants Kakashi to know that he’d never want to be with anyone else. And even though Kakashi still believes that under different circumstances he would’ve never ended up with Obito, he keeps his mouth shut and accepts the affection.
The two of them work a lot, so the moments spent together are sometimes rare, but cherished.
This week, they can barely see each other.
Kakashi has multiple missions that force him out of the village and Obito has his hands full helping Tsunade with basically everything.
One time Kakashi runs into Obito at home, only to repack and head out again and he can easily tell that his boyfriend isn’t happy about that.
“You really can’t stay for a few more minutes?” Obito pouts softly, watching Kakashi put on his shoes.
“Sorry.” Kakashi looks at his boyfriend apologetically, “Guy is probably already waiting at the gates, I really need to get going.”
Obito huffs annoyedly.
“So you’re with Guy, huh…?” He mumbles and Kakashi chuckles under his breath.
“Now, now, don’t be jealous.” The Hatake yanks his boyfriend into a kiss by his collar, Obito reciprocating gladly.
“I’m not.”
“Yeah, you are.”
“Fine. Maybe a little.”
Obito earns another chuckle and another kiss from Kakashi.
“There is no need. Especially not with Guy.”
“What is that supposed to mean?!”
“It means that he would never try anything like that. He actually praises our ‘youthful’ love constantly.”
Now it’s Obito’s turn to laugh.
“Okay, I get it. But I’m still jealous. You two have just been on a mission together and now you’re leaving with him again. I miss you.” Obito confesses and Kakashi’s gaze softens.
“I miss you too, Bito. But I’ll be back the day after tomorrow, I promise.”
Obito sighs dramatically but lets go of Kakashi after another kiss that he purposely drags out.
“I love you.” The Hatake purrs, feeling a little tamed by his boyfriends dizzying kisses.
“I love you too, Kashi. Can’t wait to have you back.”
__
When Kakashi gets back from his mission, he finds Obito by chance.
He has just reported back to Tsunade, when he runs into Obito in the hallway.
The Uchiha is carrying a box stuffed with folders that he quickly sets down to engulf his boyfriend in a big comforting hug, attacking him with kisses.
“I missed you so much, my love.” Obito charms in between kisses, squeezing Kakashi tightly.
“I missed you too, Bito. When are you off today?” Kakashi asks when Obito finally lets him breathe again.
“Hopefully around 7 pm.” Obito sighs, trying his best to enjoy feeling Kakashi in his arms for a few minutes.
“Alright. I’ll have dinner ready then.” Kakashi promises, accepting a few more rushed kisses to his lips.
“Sounds perfect.”
The two men separate and Obito powers through his workday with Kakashi’s amazing cooking on his mind, while Kakashi goes home to shower and rest for a bit, before making his way to the market to buy some ingredients for dinner.
Kakashi really has missed his boyfriend a lot, so he ends up picking up all of Obito’s favourites as he wants to treat the man a little with dinner tonight.
Obito’s has spent the past weeks making sure that Kakashi feels loved and while Kakashi hasn’t been unaffectionate, he feels like he can do more.
He was the one who had caused Obito heartbreak for months by breaking up with him, so it feels inadequate that even now that they’re back together Obito is the one putting in more effort.
Kakashi understands that his boyfriend worries that he may have shown his love too little over the years, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.
“Kakashi Sensei!” The Hatake is ripped from his thoughts by the familiar voice of his former student, turning around to face Sakura with his eyes crinkling up as he smiles.
Kakashi barely sees her these days, and maybe it’s because he subconsciously avoids her, but if she’s calling out his name to talk for a moment, he better not ignore her.
“Sakura. Good to see you. Are you doing well?” Seeing her smile like he hadn’t failed her, just as much as he had failed Naruto and Sasuke, pains Kakashi.
Can no one see how much misfortune he brings into the lives of those around him?
“I’m doing fine and you, Sensei? I haven’t seen you around in a while.” Sakura is genuinely happy to run into her former mentor like this. She misses being on a team with him just as much as she misses being on a team with Naruto and Sasuke.
“Ah, yeah, I had some outside missions these days. I just came home today.” Kakashi nods, adjusting the bags in his hands.
“Oh, right, Obito mentioned that the other day.” Sakura giggles. Being Tsunade’s student she does see Obito sometimes whenever he’s running important errands for the reigning Hokage.
“He seems to have missed you a lot, Sensei. You’re so lucky to have such a loving boyfriend, honestly.” She swoons, causing Kakashi to feel a little flustered.
His and Obito’s relationship isn’t a secret in Konohagakure, so naturally Sakura knows, but people rarely ever talk to him about it.
Obito and him had never made their relationship outright public, knowing that same-sex relationships were neither common, nor well-received in Konoha, but they hadn’t hid it either. Word had spread and at a certain point everyone had just come to know that the two remaining former students of the fourth Hokage were a couple.
Somehow the two men had faced very little criticism for their relationship, both suspecting that being known as some of the strongest, and at times most ruthless, shinobi of the village had earned them enough respect for people to keep their ill will to themselves.
Additionally, no one had ever come to know that the two had gone through a breakup. While people had begun questioning not seeing them together, neither Obito nor Kakashi had ever told anyone about being broken up. It sure made things easier now that they were together again.
“Now, now, Sakura…” Kakashi exclaims awkwardly, not really knowing what to say.
“Oh come on, that’s nothing to be embarrassed by!” Sakura grins brightly, “I think its adorable. He’s always so happy and all sweet when he talks about you.”
Kakashi actually feels himself blush behind his mask, but can’t suppress a smile gracing his lips.
He really shouldn’t be so worried about Obito just being with him for the sake of not being single.
“I can imagine.” He finally agrees, watching his former student swoon more about what a perfect couple they are until Kakashi finally stops her.
“It was good to talk to you, Sakura, but I should probably get going now.” His tone doesn’t leave much room for interpretation and she nods a little.
“I hear you’ve been working hard and improving a lot. Keep up the good work.” He praises, patting her head with a gentle hand.
Sakura smiles sheepishly, a glint of sadness in her eyes.
“Gotta keep up with them somehow, right?” She chuckles sadly, but Kakashi understand her well.
“Do it for your own sake, Sakura.”
Her mentor’s words actually do encourage her, both of them feeling a bit more at ease when they finally go their separate ways.
When Kakashi gets home he still has enough time to prepare their dinner comfortably before Obito gets home.
He makes all of Obito’s favourite foods and side dishes, hoping it’ll bring the other a bit of comfort. Kakashi can’t help but think of Sasuke today, but he figures that running into Sakura earlier may have caused him to be in his thoughts about his former students.
Kakashi still remembers moving in with Obito and Sasuke.
Since he had been over a lot anyway, it hadn’t drastically changed things and Sasuke had never actually cared much about the kind of relationship him and Obito have. They had started dating prior to Obito becoming Sasuke’s caretaker, so the young Uchiha had never really known them as anything other than a couple.
Thankfully, Kakashi becoming Sasuke’s mentor only a few years later hadn’t changed anything either.
He had always been a rather quiet boy who kept to himself and he hadn’t been much different at home.
While Obito had been able to bring Sasuke out of his shell around him, it had taken Kakashi a while to get to a comfortable level with the boy.
Kakashi chuckles to himself.
Admittedly, he himself isn’t all that different from Sasuke and Obito is a much more open and extroverted person. It’s only natural that he had gotten further and Kakashi still thinks he was the best choice to step in as a parental figure, despite everything that’s happened.
Keys twisting in the door lock rip Kakashi out of his thoughts and a small smile graces his lips.
He has to admit that he too has missed Obito a lot these past few days.
“I’m home!” His boyfriend calls out to him, Kakashi hearing him shuffle out of his shoes and flak jacket.
“Great timing. Dinner is almost ready.” Kakashi answers, reverting his attention back to the stove to finish their food.
Obito takes a quick trip to the bathroom to wash his hands, joining Kakashi in the kitchen only a minute later.
The Hatake finds himself engulfed in a back hug instantly, chuckling a little as Obito clings to him and buries his face into the crook of Kakashi’s neck.
“God, I missed you…” Obito sighs, really soaking in the familiar scent of his lover, pressing a few kisses to Kakashi’s exposed neck.
“Oh, I missed you too.” Kakashi smiles, turning his head to steal a kiss from Obito’s lips.
The Uchiha doesn’t feel like letting him go right away, deepening their kiss for a moment.
He is glad to have his boyfriend back. In every way.
While having him back physically after a few days of absence sure is nice, its even better to finally feel their strong emotional connection again.
Things have been getting better rapidly over the past few weeks and Obito almost couldn’t be happier.
Almost.
While there’s the obvious absence of Sasuke that dampens his happiness, there is one more thing that creeps it’s way back into Obito’s mind as well: the fact that he had meant to ask Kakashi to get married prior to their breakup.
Obito still wants it.
But he isn’t sure if he should just ask or if it might be better to wait.
He doesn’t even know if Kakashi would ever want to get married, since they have never really talked about it.
Maybe he should try to touch on the topic first?
Good god, he really isn’t the best at subtlety.
Kakashi eventually shoos him away to set the table, which Obito obediently does as told.
When the younger serves their dinner, Obito immediately notices that Kakashi has gone out of his way to make all of Obito’s favourites.
“You made all of my favourites?” Obito looks at Kakashi, his eye wide and softened.
“Yeah, I thought I’d treat you a little.” Kakashi nods, sitting down across from Obito. The Uchiha grabs his hand, a warm smile tugging at his lips.
“You didn’t have to do that.” He purrs, “But I’m happy. Thank you, Kashi. You’re the best boyfriend I could ever ask for.”
A small smile is spread across Obito’s cheeks and Kakashi can feel his own face heat up as well.
“Hardly.” Kakashi chuckles helplessly, earning an unamused gaze from his boyfriend.
“Don’t argue with me on this. I’m your boyfriend and I would know.”
“Alright, fine.” The Hatake waves off, “Let’s eat.”
Obito grins in triumph, thumb caressing Kakashi’s hand for a moment.
“Thank you again and I love you.”
“I love you too.”
The Uchiha actually tops it off by pressing a kiss to Kakashi’s knuckles, leaving the younger a little flustered by the sudden romance.
Kakashi can’t lie: he loves romance.
Obito teases him for reading Icha Icha all the time, claiming they’re ’filthy porn books’ and while Kakashi does enjoy the smut part, he actually reads them first and foremost for the sappy, cheesy romance.
Before being in a relationship, he had always secretly wished for a romance like that.
He knew now, that it wasn’t so realistic after all, but he had gotten lucky.
While being a clumsy idiot by nature, Obito had always been big on gestures and romance, despite being embarrassed by it every time.
Every birthday, anniversary and Valentine’s Day he would go all out, sweeping Kakashi off his feet.
And even in their everyday life, he never missed a chance to show Kakashi just how much he meant to him.
If the Hatake could tell his younger self, he’d probably die of a heart attack in the spot.
When they finally just eat, Obito praises Kakashi’s cooking skills every few bites, leaving the Hatake’s ears red from all the flattery.
“I haven’t had tomatoes in my miso soup in ages. Still a weird combination.” Obito chuckles, taking another slurp of soup.
“Hm?” Kakashi looks at his boyfriend, “Is that not your favourite? You used to do it all the time.”
“Ah…” Obito sets down his spoon for a moment, sighing a little, “That’s because it’s Sasuke’s favourite.”
Kakashi feels bad immediately.
He had never once questioned the weird combination, simply figuring that Obito liked it like that, but now finding out that Obito had only done it for Sasuke, makes him feel terrible about doing it today.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t know that.” He apologises, looking down at his own food in disappointment.
“Hey.” Obito smiles softly, taking Kakashi’s hand over the table, “That’s nothing to be down about. I do like it. No need to apologise.”
Kakashi tries to give Obito a smile, but doesn’t really succeed. The Uchiha frowns.
“Kakashi, please don’t overthink this now. You couldn’t know that.” Obito tries again, watching Kakashi nod hesitantly.
“The sad part is that my miso soup was never this good.” Obito jokes, “I want to eat the miso soup you make everyday of my life.”
Kakashi looks at him, slightly wide-eyed, and Obito too wavers at the implication.
It’s a common phrase used to propose to your significant other in Konoha and while he hadn’t meant to start the topic just now, dwelling on it for a while now had probably caused him to talk out of pocket anyway.
“Uhm…” Obito clears his throat awkwardly, “Well, stumbled right into that one after all, so I’ll just see it through.” He mumbles, Kakashi furrowing his eyebrows a little.
“What?” The Hatake asks, unsure what Obito is trying to say at this point, watching the man fumble through his pocket under the table.
“I meant to ask you this two years ago, but then all those shitty things happened and I didn’t end up doing it.” Obito begins explaining, finally taking a small box out of his pocket.
“Now, it’s not exactly common in Konoha, but I wanted you to have something physical instead of just my word.” Obito opens the small box, looking at its contents for a moment before getting up from his seat and walking up to Kakashi’s side of the table.
Obito goes down on one knee and Kakashi briefly wonders if he’s dreaming right now.
“Kakashi, I know we’ve had it anything but easy, but the one thing I can always count on is having you by my side. You’re the love of my life and never want to spent another day without you in my life. So, what I’m trying to ask is… will you marry me?”
Obito asks, presenting him a ring in the small box. It’s a simple silver ring, he knows Kakashi wouldn’t want to wear anything flashy, but it looks like excellent quality and craftsmanship.
“I… wha-…” Kakashi stammers inelegantly, looking back and forth between his kneeling boyfriend and the ring in his hand with a confused expression.
“I hope it isn’t too soon, since we only got back together, but like I said, I meant to ask you this two yea-”
Kakashi grabs Obito’s face and presses a wild kiss onto his lips, the situation finally settling into his brain.
“Yes. Yes, god, yes, I want to marry you.” Kakashi whispers when he separates, going right back in for another kiss.
“Mph!” Obito gasps into the passionate kisses, but reciprocates every single one with pure happiness.
Kakashi said yes.
“Alright, let me see your hand then.” Obito sweetly demands after a while of kissing in this weird position, placing the ring onto Kakashi’s right ring finger for now. When Obito finally stands up again, Kakashi follows him, throwing his arms around the back of Obito’s neck to kiss him again.
“I can’t believe you’ve had this for so long.” Kakashi mumbles, stretching his hand out behind Obito’s head and looking at the ring for a moment, “Do you have one as well?”
Obito nods gently, placing a kiss onto Kakashi’s cheek as he snakes his arms around the other’s waist.
“Yeah, I have it upstairs. We can put them on the left hand at the ceremony.” He grins sheepishly, accepting another kiss from Kakashi.
“You’re insane.” The Hatake sighs, “You should’ve told me sooner.”
“The time wasn’t right.” Obito smiles, “And to be honest, I wanted this to go much more romantic.”
Kakashi chuckles softly.
“It was perfect, don’t worry.”
The two lovers engage in more kisses, eventually forcing themselves to separate and finish their meal.
“So, when do you wanna do this?” Kakashi asks, not sure if this is too early to talk about. But people in Konoha usually don’t stay engaged for too long and usually start planning a wedding right away.
Obito sighs heavily.
“I’m not sure. I…” He falters for a moment, “I wanted my kid to be there, you know? But I don’t know if that will ever be the case again.”
Kakashi nods in understanding.
“That makes sense. I’d prefer for him to be there too. And Naruto.” Kakashi agrees, “How about we give it another year and then reevaluate? We can always adjust our plans.”
They end up agreeing on that, both ignoring the gnawing feeling in their stomach that Sasuke might never return.
_
Naruto is the first to return, but it takes another year.
Kakashi and Obito are happy to see him and Naruto is as determined to bring Sasuke back as he was the day he left to go on his journey.
But things take drastic turns over the next two years after Naruto’s homecoming.
The Akatsuki capture the Kazekage and successfully extract the Ichibi. Gaara just about makes it out alive.
Naruto and Sakura do see Sasuke, but he is still determined to stay away from Konoha and kill Itachi.
They face the Akatsuki on multiple occasions and Naruto even creates a new Jutsu.
Jiraiya dies.
Itachi dies.
Sasuke remains a rogue, despite reaching his goal.
The Akatsuki collect Bijuu after Bijuu, killing jinchuuriki in the process and while the villages try their best to cooperate to save the remaining ones, in the end only Naruto and Killer B are left alive.
Konoha suffers great losses and destruction.
Kakashi dies.
Naruto eventually defeats Pain with words rather than Jutsus, convincing Nagato, the real person behind the paths of Pain, to resurrect the ones that died in battle.
He gives his life for this purpose.
Obito just about gets Kakashi back this time.
He could’ve lost him for good and would’ve had to live with the fact that they have yet to go through with the wedding.
But despite everything, Kakashi still convinces Obito to wait for a little longer, hoping that they can do it when they have peace and everyone is back home.
Two more years of disaster and negotiations with the other villages pass until Madara Uchiha declares war on the whole Shinobi world.
If only Obito had known back then, he would’ve killed the man and Zetsu along with him.
Had he not misjudged the situation, many things wouldn’t have happened.
The war feels like it’s a year long, when in reality it is only a few days.
The enemies use resurrected shinobi to fight them.
They suffer more losses, but they also gain allies.
Sasuke comes back to fight by Naruto’s side.
Orochimaru helps them by resurrecting the former generations of Hokage.
Naruto gets to see his father.
Kakashi and Obito get to see their Sensei.
They fight back with newfound strength.
They almost lose Naruto, but Sakura and Gaara save him, Obito helping to put the tailed beast chakra back into Naruto’s body.
Kakashi loses Obito’s left sharingan to Madara.
Madara puts it back into Obito’s skull and takes control of him for a while.
They manage to free Obito and Kakashi eventually gets an entirely new eye of his own granted by Naruto and his new powers.
But no matter how hard they fight, in the end Madara casts the infinite tsukuyomi on the entire shinobi world.
Team 7 and Obito can escape it with the help of Sasuke’s Susanoo and find out that the real mastermind behind the plan isn’t Madara Uchiha at all.
Madara dies by Black Zetsu’s hand and allows Kaguya Ōtsutsuki to resurrect.
The fight against her is an almost impossible one to win.
All five of them almost don’t make it out, but they refuse to give up.
Obito and Sakura open portals to find Sasuke, while Naruto tries to figure out a way to defeat Kaguya. Kakashi feels almost helpless, having Obito’s sharingan stolen from him.
Kaguya drags them through various dimension and almost manages to kill Sasuke and Naruto.
Kakashi and Obito jump in to save them without any second thoughts, but Obito can’t bear to see the love of his life die.
So he saves Kakashi and takes the full hit himself.
He dies.
Obito gets to see Rin again.
He gets to tell her about everything that has happened and gets to hear her say that she is proud of him for everything he had done to make the world a better place.
She is happy that him and Kakashi have each other and promises to oversee their wedding when it finally happens.
And that she will happily wait for them to join her one day, in the very far future.
Rin uses all her power to help push Obito back into the land of the living.
By some miracle, Naruto and Sakura manage to bring him back, pulling from the other side. Sasuke ends up lending some of his chakra too, despite not having any healing capabilities.
Despite only caring whether Naruto lives or dies before, he can’t bear to see the person who raised him die after all.
Kakashi holds Obito when he wakes up, but the fight isn’t over yet.
Obito can barely move, but he manages to grant Kakashi temporary use of his full Mangekyō sharingan, seeing his fiancé summon a perfect Susanoo on the first try.
He can’t say he is very surprised by that.
Kakashi gets to help his former students in their last fight against Kaguya.
In the end, it’s only Sasuke and Naruto who are able to seal Kaguya again with Sakura’s help. And Naruto makes sure that black Zetsu gets sealed along with her this time.
The Rikudou Sennin is the one who eventually brings them back to their dimension, with the help of all former Hokage.
Naruto can talk to his father one last time.
But just as Naruto and Sasuke are supposed to release the infinite Tsukuyomi, Sasuke has to turn on them one more time.
Obito almost feels like they should’ve seen it coming.
Sasuke and Naruto take their last fight to the valley of the end and Obito has to let Sakura and Kakashi follow them without him, because he still can’t move.
He is terrified to lose either of the two boys and prays to every deity out there that they both make it out unharmed.
Hours pass and he sits there, leaned against a boulder, surrounded in nothingness.
At some point, Obito’s mind convinces them that not only has he lost Naruto and Sasuke, but Sakura and Kakashi as well.
He tries to push those dark thoughts away and focuses on praying that they make it back.
And then they finally do.
Of course, Naruto and Sasuke aren’t unharmed, but each losing an arm is better than losing their lives to Obito.
Kakashi falls onto his knees beside Obito and they finally get to hug and kiss each other again, as the two boys lift the Tsukuyomi.
Obito has seen Kakashi cry more than any other person ever will, but this time his lover can’t hold back a single tear. Obito can only do so much in his condition, but he tries his best to console Kakashi. The Hatake cries into his shoulder and Obito holds him weakly, crying just as much.
They get to take their kids home after all this time.
_
A knock on Obito’s and Kakashi’s door early in the morning startles both of them.
Two years have passed since the end of the war and Konoha is still recovering slowly.
“I’ll get it.” Obito says, his dark blue haori flowing as he swiftly heads through the door.
He has been the sixth Hokage for all of a week now and he feels like Kakashi is prouder of the accomplishment than Obito himself.
When he opens the door, Obito doesn’t know what to say for a moment.
“Sasuke.”
He hasn’t seen Sasuke much since the end of the war. Despite getting off lightly he did have to serve a prison sentence and after that he had set off on a journey to repent for his sins some more.
He had briefly come back about half a year ago, Naruto joining him for these past six months after that.
Obito had dreamed of having him back in Konoha for so long, but knowing that he was alive, on their side and with Naruto had been good enough as well.
“Can I come in?” Sasuke asks, avoiding Obito’s eyes in shame.
A small smile displays on Obito’s lips and then he pulls Sasuke into a tight hug. The younger huffs, but doesn’t fight it, actually placing his one remaining arm around Obito to reciprocate the hug.
“You know I hate these hugs.”
Obito chuckles, but a few tears roll down his cheeks as he squeezes his kid a little tighter.
“And you know I don’t care.”
Obito crushes Sasuke for a little while longer. He doesn’t notice Kakashi stepping up behind him, catching Sasuke’s eyes with a knowing look.
Obito eventually lets go of his cousin and lets him inside, quickly wiping away his own tears.
The three men sit down at the kitchen table and no one really knows what to say.
It’s eventually Sasuke who speaks up again.
“I… I wanted to ask if I could stay here for a few nights.” He spills, Kakashi and Obito exchanging a surprised look.
“Sasuke, this is your home. You’re always welcome. Your room is still there.” Obito answers and now it’s Sasuke’s turn to be surprised.
“You didn’t get rid of it?” He asks in disbelief, looking into towards the hallway and the stairs for a second.
Obito shakes his head.
“No.” He shrugs, “I wanted you to have a place to come home to.”
Sasuke is touched, but doesn’t know what to say to that.
He loves Obito dearly, but he has always had trouble showing it. The man raised him the best he could and has never even once stopped believing in the good in him.
Sasuke has had time to reflect and he wants nothing more than to finally come home.
He’s legally an adult, but the years lost gnaw at him and he craves to live here again.
To be able to spend time with his family.
He has only asked for a few nights, because he isn’t sure if Obito and Kakashi would ever want to take him back in.
“Sasuke, you can stay here whenever you like and however long you like. This is your home and you’re always welcome.” Obito emphasises again, folding his own hands in front of him on the table to calm his nerves.
He wants Sasuke to move back home, but he doesn’t want to push too hard.
Looking at Obito’s hands, Sasuke notices the ring and as his eyes wander, he notices one on Kakashi’s hand as well.
“You two got married?” He uncharacteristically blurts out, causing the two men to chuckle and exchange another look he doesn’t know how to interpret.
“No. We’re still just engaged actually.” Obito sighs, “How many years is that now, Kashi?
“Four.” Kakashi replies, amusement lacing into his voice.
“Why? What are you waiting for?” Sasuke doesn’t get it. They’ve been together ever since he can remember and have been engaged for years now, why wouldn’t they just go through with it?
“You.” Obito chuckles, “I’m not gonna get married without having my kid there.”
It’s like someone is grabbing and squeezing Sasuke’s heart when he hears Obito say that.
The older Uchiha has called him ‘his kid’ before, but this is the first time Sasuke can actually acknowledge it. He is Obito’s kid.
He would never call him dad or father, but he’s definitely a father-figure of sorts and continues to be one.
Obito is Sasuke’s family.
“And Naruto as well. We wouldn’t want to get married without you two there to celebrate it with us.” Kakashi adds, tugging at Sasuke’s heartstrings even more.
“Why didn’t you send a message? We would’ve come home for that.”
“We know you needed that journey. Both of you. It wouldn’t have been right to interrupt.” Kakashi answers this time, Sasuke actually nodding.
“But if you two intend to stay home for a little longer, we can finally get it done.” Obito grins happily, nudging Kakashi a little.
“We do, actually.” Sasuke agrees, “But there is one more thing.”
“Sure, just tell us.” Obito nods.
“Can Naruto move in here as well? I know it’s a lot to ask but…”
“But…?” Obito prods, not sure where this is going.
“I don’t want him to live alone anymore. And ever since he found out that you two wanted to adopt him from the beginning, it seems he can’t stop thinking about that.” Sasuke finally explains, “I know we’re both adults but… we lost some time.”
Both Obito and Kakashi smile.
“Of course he can. We still have the guest room, that can be his room.” Obito agrees, Kakashi nodding along, “We won’t ever make up for all the time we’ve lost, but we can try to make up for some of it.”
The kids being able to come home after all brings both Obito and Kakashi more peace than they could’ve ever imagined.
Finally, all is well.
