Harry Potter: The Cost of Revenge
Chapter 1
The day dawned bright for the newly thirteen year old Carla Altobello, she smiled and she got dressed for the day, ready for what they had arranged for that day, her friends would be coming to visit. Smoothing down her skirt she made her way downstairs. Her parents were already sitting down to breakfast and both smiled warmly at her.
“Ah Carla, good morning honey, come and eat, your friends will be here soon.” Barbara, her mother, greeted cheerfully.
Carla smiled and sat down. “Grazie mamma.”
Her parents both smiled, her father Sonny, reaching out to ruffle her hair, noting her letting out a little of her Italian side from her father’s side of the family.
“Ah, tesoro.” Sonny replied with a laugh as she grumbled and tried to fix her hair again.
They enjoyed their breakfast and soon everything was ready. Her father had to leave for the Ministry but her mother was present as they waited for her friends to arrive. They were not the richest family by any means, but they were comfortably well-off and influential and it reflected in their home which Carla would be showing to her friends when they arrived. Soon enough the Floo flared to life and out emerged Amara who grinned widely upon seeing her.
“Carla!”
Carla laughed and the two girls hugged once Amara was cleaned up. “Hey Amara.”
The dark skinned girl grinned and nodded.
Hitting thirteen had started to make changes for the two girls, they had gained a few inches and they were starting to notice changes in things that interested them. It wasn’t just them of course as the Floo flared again as Jeff entered next, followed shortly afterwards by Jamie. They had started to change too, notably gaining growth spurts that were starting to put the girls to shame. Originally all the same height, Jamie and Jeff were now at least a head taller than both girls.
“Hey Carla, wow, this place looks nice.” Jeff greeted her.
Jamie nodded. “Yeah this is, incredible.”
Carla felt her face heat up but she nodded and stepped towards the door.
“Thanks guys, well, shall we?” She remarked. “Welcome to Villa Altobello.”
They all laughed and stepped through into the main entrance hall of the house. It wasn’t a massive mansion, but it was quite a nice place, large and comfortable, showing strong elements of Sonny’s side of the family, with definite signs of Italian Architecture.
“Wow, this is...you really get a sense of family history here, huh?” Amara remarked in amazement.
Carla nodded happily. “Yeah, dad actually had the place built himself shortly after he came over from Italy, that was about two months before he met mum. His family had always been well-off and well-liked. They always enjoyed living in peaceful villas in the countryside, so…”
She gestured around and the others nodded, understanding and fascinated by the impromptu history lesson. Thus began their tour of the Altobello home.
The tour had been quite enjoyable as Carla showed them the delights of the villa, nicely furnished and decorated rooms and hallways, magnificent artwork, the typical magical portraits and such. Stepping out back to see the nice and well-cared for garden, Jeff quirked an eyebrow.
“No Quidditch Pitch?” He queried.
Carla laughed. “No Jeff, you know I’m not really a good flyer, Quidditch isn’t for me. Regardless we do have other things.”
She nodded and the others all grinned at the sight of such a classic means of recreation, both for Magicals and Muggles, a swimming pool.
“Wish you’d told us you had this, I’d have brought my swimsuit.” Amara said, laughing.
Carla shrugged. “Well, we’d still have to set it all up and everything, maybe another time.”
Jamie nodded. “That sounds good. So, is that everywhere?”
“Mostly, just didn’t show the bedrooms or dad’s study, for obvious reasons.” Carla replied with a shrug.
They all nodded at that and made their way back inside. By now it was lunch time and they joined Barbara in having lunch.
“So, I hope you’ve all been enjoying your time in our home.” Barbara said warmly.
“We have, Mrs. Altobello.” Amara said. “You have such a lovely home.”
Both boys nodded in agreement and Jeff added.
“Carla made sure we knew were everything was and showed us around, it was amazing.”
Barbara laughed. “Well, my dear tesoro is always the gracious host.”
Carla blushed at that but soon they were engaged in a new conversation and made their way back out to the yard to sit and chat.
Their talk inevitably turned to their upcoming trip to Diagon Alley.
“So, are you guys ready for the trip, we’ll have to restock and get our new books.” Carla said.
Jamie nodded. “Yeah, it’s gonna be tricky, especially since we’re looking into getting our electives too.”
“What’s everybody doing again, I’m doing Care for Magical Creatures, Study of Ancient Runes and Divination.” Amara explained.
“I’m taking Care as well, Arithmancy too.” Jamie replied.
Carla nodded. “I’m also in Study of Ancient Runes and Muggle Studies.”
“Muggle Studies for me too, as well as Care of Magical Creatures.” Jeff added. “I’ll also finally be getting my own wand. Mine being broken convinced mum to finally get me one.”
They all smiled at that, they were clearly going to be very busy at Diagon Alley and hoped, with everything that they had endured so far, that they would be ready for whatever would come during this year at Hogwarts, for they knew already that it wasn’t a question of if something happened, but when.

Harry Potter: The Cost of Revenge
Chapter 2
Unbeknownst to many, not even those in the area, two figures moved quietly through the Hogwarts Valley. One was in fact none other than Ezekiel, the one who had caused trouble for the four friends during their first year. The one who had imprisoned Jamie under the Portrait Curse and held Jeff, Amara and Carla captive, he was scruffier than before having grown facial hair as he had been forced to hide after that. His only major move during this was to save his friend, Angelo, from Azkaban and now they were trying to get in touch with the Grand Magister of their group, the Cult of Herpo.
“We’re nearly there, we just need to explain to the Grand Magister about my plan, then we can-” Ezekiel was saying.
Angelo scowled. “Ezekiel, we don’t have time to waste on that damned Portrait Curse, we have more important things to deal with.”
Angelo was a gaunt young man, around the same age as Ezekiel, with long matted dark brown hair, brown eyes and unshaven. Still clad in his Azkaban robes he cut quite a sinister figure.
Ezekiel turned to his closest friend, glaring. “I thought you’d support me, you know this is-”
“You know what our orders were, we have no business looking for things like that...we have other priorities, the Grand Magister’s words are law.” Angelo snapped.
Ezekiel growled but shook his head and stalked off further into the woods, Angelo rolled his eyes and followed.
They soon reached their destination, an old cave which had a hidden entrance at the back of it. They had to use their wands to open it and followed the sloping cavern path until they reached another seemingly empty wall, empty except for two indentations in the pillars on either side of the blank wall. They both stepped up to one of these indentations each and pulled out their medallions which they pressed into them, the back wall opened with a low rumbling sound and they entered the cavernous room beyond, returning their medallions to under their clothes and using their wands to mask their features, as was required. The room was notably for being lit by torches that let out an eerie blue light, there was a strange symbol marked on the floor, multiple circles all connected by various lines, in a strange pattern, with other circles around the outside of this set up. These outer circles were notable in that one had blackened while the other fourteen were still visible. Only two other circles were blackened one each in two of the branches formed by the connected circles. The biggest circle, at the very head of the room was occupied by a tall figure, clad in black robes, their features hidden. Nobody else was around, which meant that this was something directed solely to them, not something for the entire Cult of Herpo. Nervously they approached the left most branch, which held one of the blackened circles, that of their master, Solomon, the other two blackened circles belonging to Thaddeus Storm and Adelaide Wilson. Stepping into their circles, next to Solomon’s blackened circle, they took up their positions in the Wing of Battle.
There was a stony silence before the Grand Magister, the Overlord, the leader of the cult spoke up. Even his voice was distorted, which just made it even more fear inducing due to his obvious anger.
“So...you finally show up. After such, drastic failures.”
They shifted uneasily while Angelo didn’t say anything, knowing there was nothing that could be said.
Ezekiel had no such restraint. “I was so close, Grand Magister, if you give me another chance, some back up, I can-”
“You will do nothing of the sort, Ezekiel.” The Grand Magister snarled. “You will stop wasting our resources on this Portrait Curse nonsense, we know it exists, but it means nothing to us. We need power, true power and there is only one thing for that. We need the Keys, we need the box.”
“But-”
“Enough, not another word.” The Grand Magister snapped. “You will abandon this worthless project and will focus on your proper task. I am sending the both of you to spy on Hogwarts, you will find where they are hiding the box, keep an eye on the refugees, see if they know which of their evacuated fellow students, the ones that were sent to Beauxbatons, carry the keys. Do you understand?”
Angelo spoke up before Ezekiel could put his foot in it again.
“Yes, Grand Magister, we will do so.”
“Good, we’ve already lost Adelaide to her foolishness and Thaddeus failed us, I don’t want to have to deal with another failure...especially after proving you might not be as dedicated to our cause as you should be.” He replied, his last part clearly directed at Ezekiel.
Ezekiel swallowed nervously but nodded and they were both dismissed now they had been given their mission.

Chapter 3
So it was a couple of days later that the four friends were heading for Diagon Alley to shop for their third year supplies, each accompanied by their parents except for Jamie’s mother, Leigh. who had remained behind to work on gathering wood from the trees in the family tree farm, it was something that needed to be done, so the wood could be sent off to broom makers and wand makers. Meanwhile John Winder, Jeff’s Muggle father, looked around in wonder as usual. Even though he had been to the alley before, it always amazed him.
“Ah, Alec, good to see you.” Ellen said with a smile. “I see our children have an uncanny knack for arranging to meet up on just the right dates, hmmm?”
Alec McIntyre laughed softly in response. “Indeed, Madam Winder. Mr. Winder a pleasure. Ah, Mr. and Mrs. Jackson, Mr. and Mrs. Altobello.”
He greeted Jeff’s parents and then Amara’s and Carla’s all while the four friends were laughing at the eagerness of Amara’s younger brother Rick who had good reason to be, what with it being time for him to start First Year.
“So, you ready for this kiddo. Just like when I started first year, you were excited just to see everything. Now it’s time for you to get your own stuff.” Amara was saying.
Rick nodded eagerly. “Yeah, oh, we gotta get to Gringotts, we gotta get the money we need for everything.”
The others laughed and soon they were all on their way to the bank, ready to begin their shopping trip.
Emerging from the bank the group all consulting their lists and shared looks as they began planning how to tackle things. Finally it was Caulette Jackson who spoke up.
“Alright, I’ll take Rick to get fitted for his robes, Terrence could you buy his cauldron and potions supplies.” Her husband nodded and she continued. “Right, I think we can trust these four to do their own shopping now, so let’s all meet up at Flourish and Blotts once we need to get the books and leave the wands till last.”
“That sounds like a good idea.” Sonny Altobello agreed.
The others smiled at that.
“C’mon, let’s go.” Jeff said.
Carla nodded. “Yeah, we need to go replenish our stocks.”
The others nodded and they began walking down the alley. They could hear something that bothered them however, some muttering from some nearby witches and wizards who were glaring at something.
“What’s going on?” Jamie asked.
Jeff, being the tallest stood on tip-toe and craned his neck. “Looks like they’re outside the local Daily Prophet office, a headline?”
The others shared a look and politely asked to step through, reaching the front they stared in horror and anger at the headline.
MORE TROUBLE WITH REFUGEES CAUSING TROUBLE
Well dear readers, it seems our initial fears of bringing in people from the other Magical schools even after the attacks on their schools have been proven true, they have indeed caused trouble. I have it from a reliable source that the refugees at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry are troublemakers who are in fact the ones truly responsible for the chaos that occurred at the school in the previous year and indeed have not been making much effort to assimilate with their new fellow students.
I got confirmation from reliable sources, notably three Gryffindor students of impeccable reputations, who remarked that they had nothing but bad experiences with the refugee students who were sorted into their house.
“They have been nothing but arrogant since they got here.” One said.
Another added. “They think they can push us around and use their so called terrible situation for sympathy.”
Truly a terrible state of affairs, one must wonder why Hogwarts is allowing this horrible behaviour to continue, especially with these people who are supposed to be our grateful guests.
Oh but it gets worse my readers, it turns out that all six Gryffindor Prefects, trying to defend their house members from these bullying refugees, were the ones punished instead and stripped of their positions, this raises a lot of questions and we need to get answers don’t we, we cannot allow Hogwarts to become overrun after all.
The four glared at this, all of them knowing right away how false this was. Amara wasted no time, making sure everyone could hear her.
“Who wrote this rubbish?”
“Rubbish, how dare you, girlie.” One of the nearby wizards snapped. “These refugees-”
“Are victims of bullying, everything in this is a lie!” Amara snapped back. “I would know since I was there, I’m a Gryffindor and those Prefects were bullying the refugees. You know, the people who had close friends and relatives murdered in front of them and had to cope with those Prefects being unsympathetic to their nightmares and actually had their belongings stolen and were shouted down for daring to challenge the thief!”
The man looked distinctly uncomfortable.
“But, but-”
One of the witches glared at Amara. “Oh really, and you think you have the right to dictate-!”
“I think you should consider the source before you attack innocent people!” Amara snapped.
Carla scoffed before revealed. “Especially since this article was written by Rita Skeeter, that instantly makes it false.”
There were shocked gasps from the crowd and more than a few glared and stalked away, muttering about ‘that vile woman’. Finally, seeing this, the two who had challenged the group, slinked away, tails between their legs so to speak.
“I’m glad we defused that, Marli, Toru, Cameron and Ariana especially, deserve better than that.” Jamie said firmly.
“Yeah. Students of impeccable reputations my foot.” Amara snarled. “That’ll be Pixie and her bootlickers no doubt.”
The others nodded in agreement and, realising the time, hurried to get everything done before heading for Flourish and Blotts.

Their book shopping complete everyone headed to Ollivanders to see Rick getting his wand and Jeff finally getting his own wand. The four third years had the books they needed for their electives with Jamie, Amara and Jeff getting the Monster Book of Monsters for Care. Jamie got Numerology and Grammatica for Arithmancy while Jeff got Home Life and Social Habits of Muggles for Muggle Studies along with Carla. Meanwhile Carla and Amara both got Rune Dictionary and Ancient Runes Made Easy for their Study of Ancient Runes Elective. That left Amara to get Unfogging the Future for her Divination Elective. They were all grinning and chatting, still glad to have helped their friends earlier. They had spoken to their parents about it and Ellen in particular took interest and promised to get a look into it and warn the Prophet to print a retraction of face litigation. That made them all smirk.
“Ah, welcome, welcome...so, Mr. Jackson, here for your first wand...and you Mr. Winder, at last?”
They turned to see Ollivander himself standing there, smiling serenely as usual. They all greeted him, friendly as ever and soon he was at work, taking measurements and fishing out boxes of wands. Finally he smiled and held the next wand out.
“Now, try this Mr. Jackson, Ash and Unicorn Tail Hair, 10 and a half inches.”
Rick took it and gasped and then, finally, he found the wand that matched him and everybody grinned and applauded. Jeff took the next wand handed to him.
“Here we are. Elm and Dragon Heart string, 11 inches.”
Sure enough it matched, much to Jeff’s delight, he could already feel his magic flowing more easily. They happily paid for the wands and left, all glad to have had a successful shopping trip and to set the record straight with those who had believed such horrible lies about their friends.

Chapter 4
The four friends all smiled as they reunited on the Hogwarts Express, even managing to get their usual compartment which made them laugh. They were already all seated and chatting happily as the train pulled away from the station and they were on their way to Hogwarts at last. They were eager to see what the coming year held for them, especially with it being their third year.
“So. What do you think our electives will be like?” Carla asked casually.
“I’m not too sure.” Jeff admitted. “I did check the books we got for them, they certainly look interesting.”
Carla nodded. “Yeah...of course, it’s sad we’ll be busier than usual, still, it does mean we might see more mixtures of students. Instead of each class being divided between two houses.”
Amara smirked, nodding. “Yeah, that would make things more interesting.”
They lapsed into a peaceful silence after that, glancing out of the window and passing greetings to familiar faces as they walked past the compartment. It wasn’t long before they heard the familiar and welcome voice of the trolley witch.
“Anything from the trolley, anything from the trolley. Anything from the trolley, dears?” She greeted them, smiling as usual.
The others grinned and, having arranged things before hand, Jamie went up and got what they were after, handing over the money, they had all pooled their money to pay equal shares and soon they were sitting and enjoying their treats.
The scenery around them changed as the train drew closer and closer to Hogwarts when finally, Jamie smirked and spoke up, adjusting his glasses as he did so.
“So, did you guys see this morning’s Daily Prophet?”
They shared looked and shook their heads, so Jamie pulled out the cut out he had taken from the front page.
“Well, it seems our words had some effect and the threats of being sued all worked.” Jamie explained. “They printed a full retraction and apology for the article Rita wrote. She’s not given a response yet but she’s been warned that she’ll have to issue a public apology to them, or she’ll not be allowed to write any more articles for the Prophet.”
“That’s awesome.” Amara said with a short cheer.
The others grinned too, but it didn’t last long. A distinct nasal voice cut in.
“You losers would think that, seeing the truth suppressed.”
They all rolled their eyes and turned to Pixie Masters who stood, flanked by her two minions as usual.
“I don’t recall us inviting lying thieves to our compartment.” Jeff said coldly.
Pixie instantly flushed. “How dare you, I-”
“You lied about the refugees, stole from them and when you didn’t get your way and paid the price for your actions, you went crying to the most unscrupulous and vile reporter out there to spread your lies.” Amara snarled at Pixie.
Pixie scoffed. “I did no such thing, I simply told the truth which nobody is willing to accept. Those invaders are trying to ruin Hogwarts, ruin us...especially that Egebe girl, she’s-”
“Enough, how dare you!” Amara burst out.
“I agree.”
They all froze at that, a Prefect stood there, glaring at Pixie and her minions.
“Miss Masters…”
“Did you just hear them attacking me, they-!” Pixie began.
The Prefect shook his head. “I heard the whole thing, Miss Masters. You started this, you’ll be spending this whole trip by the Prefect’s compartment.”
“Do you know who I am!?” Pixie shrieked. “My father is high up in the Wizengamot and I-”
“No he isn’t, he grandfather confirmed that.” Jamie interrupted. “He would know too, being part of the Wizengamot and leader of the Grey Party for the last 88 years.”
Pixie flushed again but was led away and the group enjoyed the rest of their journey in peace.

Arriving at Hogsmeade Station the group were happy to note and they were joined by the refugee students, many of them greeting friends, the main four were pleased to reunite with Marli, Toru, Ariana and Cameron, as well as Jennifer who had also stayed at Hogwarts over the summer. Pleased with their reunion the group all walked together with the other students from Second Year and up towards the Thestral drawn carriages.
“So, did you guys have a good summer?” Jamie asked.
Jennifer gave a shaky smile. “Good enough, until two days ago.”
“Why, what-?” Jeff began.
Marli grimaced. “No, here we go again.”
The refugees and Jennifer all tensed. As did Jamie as he began to remember things, things involving falling victim to the portrait curse. All of them immediately shifted closer, trying to heat each other up as things got icy cold and it was like they were drowning in fog.
‘Merlin’s mummified left nut, all this can only mean...no, why would, how...it is.’ Jamie thought wildly until he saw it. ‘Dementor.’
There was indeed a Dementor, several of them, all of them floating around the gates and outside Hogwarts. Warmth and relief did not return until they were inside the castle and getting close to the main gates.
“What are Dementors doing here?” Jamie asked in shock.
“They showed up a couple of days ago.” Ariana said shakily. “Something about dangerous criminals.”
Jamie shook his head, horrified as Jeff pulled out chocolate frogs and passed them around, using the chocolate to help stave off the effects they had suffered through, hoping they’d get answers at the feast.

After going through the Sorting, Rick Jackson joining his sister in Gryffindor, and then the start of term feast, the students were all about to get the news they had been simultaneously eager for, yet dreading.
“Your attention, please.” Professor Dumbledore announced as he stood. “Before you all retire for the night, I wish to warn you all. As you’ve become aware by now, the school is being...guarded, by some of the Dementors of Azkaban. This has been decided by the Ministry in hopes of capturing the escaped convict Angelo and his friend Ezekiel, who you’ll recalled caused trouble here two years ago…”
Dumbledore continued to give them warnings about Dementors while the group all began to wonder worriedly about what he had just said, wondering why Ezekiel would come back to Hogwarts, even with this Angelo this time.

Chapter 5
The next day dawned with the usual hustle, bustle and excitement of that first day back at Hogwarts, the new third years were especially excited as they would receive their timetables and be ready to start their electives. But for the group of friends, there was a wariness involved, a wariness that came from knowing that an old enemy was around, with a friend this time and the biggest defence they had against them were the worst creatures imaginable who may end being even more dangerous to them than the two criminals. Despite being wary they were thankfully still able to enjoy breakfast, get their timetables along with directions and soon were on their way to their first elective classes.
XXXXX
After the long trek from the Great Hall to the North Tower, Amara, Marli and Jennifer were relieved to find the Divinations classroom, although now inside they found the atmosphere of the room to be a little, overwhelming. Now they were being introduced to the subject by Professor Sybill Trelawny.
"Welcome, to Divination, here we will learn the wonders of the future and find if you possess 'The Sight'." She announced in an overly dramatic 'mystical' voice and sweeping gestures with her hands. "This is not an easy subject to learn, teach or grade, for without the Inner Eye there will not be much you can accomplish. But I forsee great things in this class for at least two of you already."
That drew whispers, as well as blushes from Amara and Marli as she had looked directly at them as she said the last part. The girls felt uneasy but their focus was soon on the lesson as Professor Trelawny began teaching the 'art' of tessomancy or reading tea leaves.
It was a tedious process as they followed the instructions and soon were working in pairs, going over what they saw in each other's cups, Professor Trelawny walked among them, listening in, occasionally asking questions and being seemingly unimpressed with some of the answers or would just nod in confirmation but otherwise said nothing. Then she reached Marli and suddenly reacted.
"You!" She gasped. "Your aura is pulsing dear, are you in the Beyond, I think you are, what do you see?"
Marli was startled but cleared her throat and began doing her best to read from Amara’s cup, strangely she seemed to actually be picking things up, not anything clear, but close enough. It was enough for Trelawny, especially in regards to the content of the predications which seemed to include a lot of worrying and dangerous signs.
Trelawny was even more ecstatic over Marli producing these predictions more than anything else. “Oh my dear, how wonderful, your great-grandmother was once a teacher for this subject here, did you know that, you clearly have inherited her gift.”
Hearing that Marli was unsettled as she shared an uneasy look with Amara and a sceptical looking Jennifer, wondering what this all meant, especially as he had a sinking feeling about what those signs could mean for Amara.

Making their way to the classroom, Jamie, Ariana and Cameron readied themselves for their first Arithmancy lesson. Reaching the classroom they found it open and entered, a handful of other students were already inside. Acting quickly the three of them found desks together and began setting up everything they needed while the other students arrived. Finally they were all ready as the Professor entered and stood before the class. She had a rather austere expression that thankfully gave way to a welcoming smile as she spoke, her voice just as welcoming.
"Welcome to Arithmancy, I am Professor Septima Vector. Now Arithmancy is a more theoretical subject that others, there is practically no wand work or spells, but make no mistake. Arithmancy is a very useful and worthwhile subject. Why it is a required subject to become a Curse Breaker for example." She announced to them all.
This changed the atmosphere in the classroom for a bit, there was definitely a lot more interest now. Pleased with the effect her words had, Professor Vector began handing out worksheets.
"Using pages 6 to 9 of your text books to fill in the worksheet to show the Arithmantic formula to set up a basic ritual circle." She explained. "You may work in groups bust must do equal shares of the work. You may begin."
With that Jamie, Cameron and Ariana shared grins, already knowing they were going to work together.
XXXXX
The smell of the crisp autumn air filled the noses of Jamie, Carla, Jeff, Jennifer and Marli as they left the castle with the other students who were all taking Care of Magical Creatures together. Heading down to the paddock where the lesson was to be held.
“Welcome, welcome, gather around, always glad to see a new class of students.” Said the eccentric gray haired one-eyed, one-armed, one-legged man who they assumed was the Professor, which the man then confirmed. “So yes, welcome to Care of Magical Creatures, I am Professor Silvanus Kettleburn.”
Jamie shared a look with Carla and Jennifer, all of whom were clearly wondering the same thing, what had they signed up for? Namely that the Professor looked like he had suffered more than a few ‘accidents’ in his career. But Jeff and Marli were, along with other students, looking at the paddock, some in delight, others in confusion. Seeing this, Professor Kettleburn gestured towards what looked like a Jack Russell terrier, except it had a forked tail.
“Allow me to introduce you to the first creature we’ll be studying in this class, best to start gently I say. This is a Crup.” He announced.
So began the first lesson, one that was surprisingly fun and soon the students all began enjoying themselves as they began to study and learn about the Crup.
XXXXX
After the fun of Care of Magical Creatures, Jennifer and Marli returned to the main castle and joined Jeff and Carla as they headed for their first Study of Ancient Runes class. While they sat in a row together they weren't all in one group as the desks in this classroom were all single desks. Nevertheless they got themselves prepared and began to wonder at the electives they hadn't taken, sharing with each other and wondering what new avenues of magic and knowledge lay before them. By the time the class was full, the Professor had arrived, a woman of seemingly boundless energy as she made her way to the front of the class and faced them all with an infectious smile.
"Good afternoon all of you." She greeted them happily. "Welcome to Study of Ancient Runes, I am Professor Bathsheda Babbling."
She began explaining then about the importance of Runes, the class syllabus and what to expect in their lessons, since like Arithmancy it was a mostly theoretical subject.
"Now, one of the best ways to learn in Ancient Runes is by doing so. Pick a rune from your book and transcribe it as best as possible." Professor Babbling explained. "Now don't worry, these won't be graded, it will give you each a starting point and an idea what to work on and improve. Once you are finished, write the page number on the back and I will collect them before the lesson is done."
Everyone quickly got to work, pleased at how quickly they were going to start learning something new.
XXXXX
With everyone else having already been to all their electives, only Carla, Jeff, Marli and Cameron had an elective left, Muggle Studies and so it was that they made their way to the class to find the other students all waiting for class to start and they soon sat down and had their books out, all ready to begin, curious as to this class.
“Welcome, class, to your first lesson in Muggle Studies, I am Professor Charity Burbage.” The professor announced, she gave an easy smile. “Now in this class we will be studying the history and daily lives of Muggles, and how they are able to live without magic, but instead use electricity, technology and science. We will be starting with research into some relatively simple Muggle inventions that have in fact been updated over the years, the telephone and radio. So, let’s start, page 3 of your books please and we will start.”
The class all got to work and soon they were starting, it was an enjoyable class, Jeff, Marli and Cameron all certainly did so. Carla did too but she also added something under her breath.
“Merlin, why do we magicals make things so complicated when the Muggles have such useful things like this.”
That made the others smiled as they all enjoyed the last elective and quite an interesting first week for them for sure.
XXXXX
So it was, at the end of their experience with all their electives and the return of their core classes, they were all amazed at the new stuff they were learning.
“Wow, this has been, just incredible.” Amara remarked.
Marli grinned. “I know, and we’ve only just begun.”
They all smiled at that, eager and hopeful for the year ahead.

Chapter 6
Having settled into life at Hogwarts again, the group were all eager and ready for their next Defence the Dark Arts lesson. Like in their other core subjects, things were getting more difficult and more interesting, learning more powerful and complex spells and potions, Professor Bennett was also giving them lessons about Dark Creatures, especially ones that related to the spells they were learning in class. But today was a little different as her eyes swept the classroom, everyone watching carefully, paying attention, even Pixie and her group knew better than to not pay attention or cause issues in Professor Bennett’s class.
“Alright, now that we’re all here, we’re going to learn a new spell. Rather important one to learn given the behaviour of certain students here.” She announced. “Salvio Hexia, the Hex Deflection spell.”
Pixie scowled upon hearing that, she didn’t miss the less than subtle implication, but the interpretation was completely wrong. Professor Bennett was making it sound like she was bullying students by hexing them. She wasn’t, she was simply making sure those interlopers from the other schools knew their place. How could she even do that if they could now protect themselves.
Then she got a bigger shock from Professor Bennett’s next remark. “Now since a fair few of you from the other schools may already know this spell, due to different curriculums, I expect you to help your classmates as we go over the spell.”
Pixie could only silently bemoan that, it was just not possible in her mind and just made her feel that they were a bigger danger to Hogwarts than ever before.
Everyone was still buzzing in amazement and delight at the lesson but even as the bell went, Professor Bennett called out.
“Alright hold on everyone, before you leave, I know classes are over for the day, but I have an announcement to make.” She said, making everyone look up at her, all abandoning their plans to get up and leave. “Good, now that I have your attention, I have been instructed by Professor Dumbledore to make this announcement, other professors will be making the announcement too, but we are restarting a formal Duelling Club in the school, the Duelling Chambers have been reopened and set up for these duels. The duels are carried out under strict rules which will be explained at the chambers. All of you are to come and if you feel up to it, you are free to join, especially the official tournament that is being arranged, one for each year.”
That got everybody even more excited and hopeful, many were already whispering about joining the club and even a few were thinking about the tournament. Leaving the class, the group were also excited at the prospect.
“Wow, this is awesome, oh, I am so getting into this.” Jeff said with a grin.
“Sounds good, count me in too.” Cameron remarked happily.
The others also grinned.
“Sounds fun, I’ll gladly come and watch.” Ariana remarked.
Jennifer nodded as did Carla. “This should be interesting.”
Jamie agreed. “Yeah, anyone else wanting to join?”
“Not me, I’ve got other things in mind.” Amara remarked.
Toru agreed but Marli gave a grin too.
“Oh, count me in, I’m joining, count on it.”
That settled it for all of them and they made their way to the Duelling Chambers in the Dungeons.
They weren’t the only ones they noticed for indeed many students had gathered, from all years, and now stood in the chamber, it was lit by some unknown light source for even the torches present could not be lighting the room as much as it was. There was a duelling platform at the far end of the room and the walls were marked with scorch marks, pitted surfaces and gouges, all signs of battle. Standing on the platform, looking out over the students were Professor Bennett, the Four Heads of Houses and Professor Dumbledore.
“Thank you all for coming. As you’ve heard we’re reinstating the official duelling club, these chambers are now open again.” Professor Dumbledore announced, gesturing around. “You can see the damage, we decided to leave these marks of damage here as a reminder and a warning as to the dangers of errant spell casting. You must remember that when duelling, respect is important and you are not aiming to kill anyone here. Those that do will be facing full punishment before the law, no matter what.”
That sent a ripple through the grip, especially through Pixie who had hoped she could use this, again to try and teach the ‘interlopers’ a lesson, but now that option was out the window.
Professor Bennett stepped forwards. “Now, given that enough of you have arrived and shown interest, we’ll be able to set up tournaments for each year. You are free to use this chamber when it’s not being used for the tournament, to practice. But be aware, the only other time duels are permitted here are under supervised conditions and for important reasons, such as honour duels.”
There were some whispers at that.
Seeing the expressions, Professor Bennett explained further.
“Honour Duels are ways people, usually from noble families, settle differences and slights against them...If you wish to challenge someone to an Honour Duel then you must make an official announcement and ensure that your head of house and I know about it, additionally, you must have a genuine reason for making the challenge.” She paused and pinned her gaze on Pixie for this next part. “Making a challenge simply for not liking someone or for some made up reason, will not be accepted.”
Pixie flushed angrily at that, furious at being singled out and worse, once more being denied the change to save Hogwarts from the ‘invaders’. But she stilled stepped forwards to sign herself up for the first round of the tournament and soon they were about to begin.

Things had been going well for the group, they were enjoying their time at Hogwarts in third year as September was now starting to turn into October. The first rounds of the duelling tournament had been impressive, there had been sixteen entrants, now whittled down to eight, amongst those eight, Cameron, Jeff and Marli had made it past the first round, unfortunately so did Pixie, but really only due to her opponent being one of her minions.
“Trust me, that stupid girl let Pixie win.” Amara said with a snort. “There’s no way she won otherwise, you’ve all seen how bad she is in class.”
“Tell me about it.” Marli agreed, shaking her head.
Jeff and Cameron nodded in agreement as they met up with the others. Ariana and Carla were engaged in conversation about Potions homework. Toru was lost in a Transfiguration textbook. Things were, all in all, calm. That was until Jennifer arrived, showing her nervous twitches, such as playing with the hem of her skirt, playing with her black hair, which was now roughly ear length, a sure sign of her recovery after how she had looked in first year.
“Hey, um, have you guys seen Jamie?” She asked warily. “I’ve looked around and, I can’t find him.”
That instantly made Amara, Jeff and Carla tense.
They shared worried looks which confused the refugee students.
“Uh oh, this is not good.” Carla remarked anxiously.
Jeff nodded. “Yeah, you don’t think-”
Amara shook her head. “Let’s not jump to conclusions guys, we should look around first.”
“Whoa, whoa, wait, what’s going on?” Ariana asked warily.
Toru nodded. “I’ve not seen Jamie all day either. I was concerned but you guys are...something else.”
“It’s all because of what happened in our first year.” Jeff explained. “Remember what we told you.”
Cameron gasped. “Yeah, I...yeah, we remember, damn, so, what you think he-?”
“It’s possible. But we have to search carefully first, just in case.” Amara explained.
Ariana grimaced. “Alright, you can count on us to help.”
Jennifer nodded. “Me too.”
The others all nodded, much to the relief of the group.
“Okay...so, how do we do this?” Marli asked.
“We split into pairs. I’ll go with Marli.” Amara said. “Jeff and Carla go together, Toru and Ariana and finally Jennifer and Cameron. We’ll search throughout the castle and meet up back here, if we don’t find anything we’ll head outside and check the grounds.”
The others nodded and so they split up and began their search, growing more and more worried as time passed and they still couldn’t find any sign of Jamie.
Regrouping in the entrance hall, the eight remaining members of the group all looked worried.
“Nothing.” Jeff said with a grimace as Carla nodded in confirmation.
Amara bit her lip. “We didn’t find him either.”
Marli looked at the other four. “Anything you guys, anything?”
“No.” Ariana admitted.
Toru sighed. “We searched everywhere we could, but still couldn’t find anything.”
Cameron’s expression was tight. “No sign of Jamie, just those ex-Prefects who funnily enough were getting on my case for ‘being friendly with a Slytherin’. Until the actual Prefects showed up and put them in their place.”
“Y-yeah.” Jennifer confirmed and shook her head. “I don’t...I don’t know if, where could he be?”
“Okay, let’s not give up.” Amara said. “We’ve not searched everywhere yet.”
“She’s right, we still need to search the grounds.” Carla said.
Of course it was never simple and they had to deal with The Annoyances as that nasal voice soon interrupted them.
“Well, well, if it isn’t the loser club.” Pixie scoffed. “Oh, aren’t you missing someone?”
“Us, losers...last I checked we were miles ahead of you in class and actually faced challenging opponents in the duelling club.” Jeff countered with a smirk. “So, how exactly are we losers compared to you.”
Pixie sneered. “Oh please, I am far more popular and-”
“Popular, everybody hates you, you don’t even have any friends.” Ariana countered.
“Hey!” One of the minions snapped.
The other growled. “We’re her friends.”
“No, you’re minions, she just uses you, doesn’t actually care about you.” Amara said blandly. “Now, unless you have something productive to say to us, we have to go, we have more important things to deal with.”
That instantly led to Pixie getting outraged, nothing infuriated her more than being brushed off as unimportant, especially now word was spreading about the truth regarding her father not being as important in the Wizengamot as she had been bragging.
Unfortunately for Pixie, by the time she and her minions recovered from their outrage to respond, they realized they were alone, the group had walked off and were gone, leaving them even more frustrated. The group had already left the Entrance Hall and were now out in the grounds, looking around for Jamie, their anxiety returning as they didn’t see him and began to worry again.
“What if...what if something happened to him due to Ezekiel and Angelo?” Carla remarked. “Or worse, the Dementors.”
They all shuddered at that but then they began to draw near to Hagrid’s Hut before hearing something off around an area right by the forest, down the hill.
“C’mon.” Cameron said.
He led the way as they began following the sounds and soon reached a clearing that ended in a fence with a gate in it and relief flooded them. For there, by the fence, was Jamie, he was stroking the feathers of Hippogriff that had come up to the fence. They approached cautiously, at least until the Hippogriff turned and headed off into the trees.
“Jamie.” Jennifer called out to get his attention, but hopefully not startle any other creatures that might be nearby.
He turned and smiled. “Ah, hey guys.”
“Hey?” Amara burst out. “We couldn’t find you, we thought you’d vanished like in first year again, and that’s all you’ve gotta say?”
Jamie grimaced, eyes darkening a little when she mentioned first year, but he looked awkward, rubbing the back of his neck.
“Ah, um, sorry about that. I just...I wanted to come here, to see it at last.”
“See what?” Jeff asked.
He motioned for them to come closer and, once they were, he directed their attention to the sign on the gate. It read ‘The Poppy McIntyre Magical Creatures Reserve’.
There was a moment of silence before Jamie explained.
“My grandmother, Poppy McIntyre, she was always a big advocate for Magical Creatures, worked hard to protect them from poachers and was one of the few humans to ever be considered as a genuine friend to Goblins and even Centaurs.” Jamie explained. “She, she died when I was eight, so...I wanted to come here, to see it, her biggest legacy which she got founded here ten years ago.”
The others all smiled, seeing the brightness in his eyes and expression as he spoke about it and, together, they entered the reserve to check it out and see all the creatures, amazed and delighted to see this piece of history, which also had such personal importance for Jamie.

Harry Potter: The Cost of Revenge
Chapter 8
The days turned, the air changed and it was now October at Hogwarts, though not yet Halloween but the atmosphere was starting up, all of it slowly building up. But for the group, they were still focused on their lessons, namely as they were on their way down to the Care of Magical Creatures class. Jamie, Carla, Jeff, Jennifer and Marli were chatting together, eager for the class. As they reached the class they saw their classmates all gathered around, chatting eagerly, they seemed to be rather interested in the paddock ahead of them. Professor Kettleburn was grinning as he walked back and forth, as best he could with his artificial leg, before them. As the five reached the rest of the class, Professor Kettleburn noted and spoke up.
“Ah good, we’re all here now, so we can start today’s lesson.” He remarked. “Now, let’s get down to it, we’ve got an interesting and devilishly tricky little creature to cover today, behold...the Niffler.”
Within the paddock were several rodent-like creatures, each with a long snout similar to that of a platypus and a coat of black, fluffy fur.
“Devilishly tricky, them?” Pixie scoffed as she took note of them.
Professor Kettleburn laughed. “Don’t underestimate these rambunctious creatures, Miss Masters. They may be gentle by nature, even affection towards their owners but they have a craving for treasure and shiny objects and can destroy belongings and become downright vicious if provoked while trying to get anything shiny, for example.”
He gestured and Pixie shrieked as the Niffler nearest her began attempting to grab at her wristwatch.
Professor Kettleburn then began talking them through the lesson, the details about a Niffler, the dangers and it being inadvisable to keep them as pets, their use with Curse Breakers and the Goblins due to their treasure hunting capabilities. They picked up various pieces of information such as them being native to Britain and living in burrows as deep as twenty feet below ground, usually having six to eight young in a single little. Most notably, they were informed that Nifflers had a pouch on their bellies which held far more than at first seemed possible, like the effects of an Undetectable Extension Charm on a container. It was shortly after that however that mayhem began.
“So now we shall begin taking a closer look at the Nifflers, so please remove any watches and jewellery and keep them stored away safely, thank you.” Professor Kettleburn began. “Now we, Miss Masters-!”
Pixie sneered, shaking her head as the Niffler she’d just helped escape was already scampering off towards the castle.
“Honestly, how can anyone take you seriously as a professor, acting as if those little fluffballs are in any way dangerous.” She remarked.
“Were you not listening to any of the lesson?” Carla remarked shaking her head. “For someone who claims to be the best of the magical world and such a proud Pure-Blood, you sure are stupid about so many things about it.”
“Excuse me!?” Pixie shrieked.
Kettleburn nodded. “Quite, anyone with even a passing knowledge of the magical world knows the danger of Nifflers, the castle is going to be torn apart...That’ll be detention and fifteen points from Gryffindor, class is cancelled and I’ll have to alert the other Professors.”
“We’ll help, Professor Kettleburn.” Jamie said.
Marli nodded. “Of course, count us in, we’ll find that Niffler and get it back here.”
Pixie sneered at them, outraged, and sent an especially hot glare at Marli, but before she could say anything offensive she was taken away towards the castle by Professor Kettleburn as Jamie, Jeff, Carla, Jennifer and Marli nodded together and hurried to fetch help and prepare to hunt down the escaped Niffler.
Amara, Ariana, Toru and Cameron had joined them in the Clock Tower Courtyard.
“So, we’re looking for an escaped Niffler?” Amara remarked, aghast. “Of all the, who’d be that stupid?”
“Pixie.” Jennifer explained with a shrug.
“Of course it was.” Cameron replied, shaking his head.
“Okay, so, how do we do this...they’re tricky creatures but with their build it can’t have gotten far yet.” Toru remarked.
Ariana grimaced. “Well, we could just follow the sounds of that screaming.”
They all heard it, coming from inside the Clock Tower itself.
“C’mon.” Jeff said at once.
They all hurried towards the source of the sound and sure enough they saw mayhem. At least ten students, clothes rumpled and a few of them missing items that they knew they had.
“What the-?” Ariana gasped.
“It was a Niffler.” One girl burst out. “What was it even doing there?”
Jamie grimaced. “It escaped Care from Magical Creatures after Pixie Masters released it.”
“What!?”
“I know, she stupidly didn’t realize the danger, despite being warned.” Jeff remarked.
Toru then added. “We’re trying to hunt it down and catch it, where did it go?”
“It was heading towards the Viaduct.”
That was all they needed to hear and soon they were rushing off for the viaduct.
Arriving they looked around and couldn’t see anything.
“Do you think we’re too late?” Amara asked worriedly.
Marli shook her head. “I don’t think so, there’d be chaos if that was the case.”
Jennifer sighed. “So, where is it?”
“Guys, over there.” Carla said.
They followed where she pointed and soon spotted the Niffler, it was starting to get closer to the people, it was about to start it’s spree again. They hurried over, wands out.
“Look out, Niffler on the loose.” Toru cried out.
The other students started, spotted the Niffler and immediately became wary, knowing the risks. Sure enough the chaos began as the mischievous creature began running around trying to grab what it could, all while the group tried desperately to catch it until finally, Amara, Jennifer and Carla worked together, hemming the creature in. It gave a growl and tried to make some sort of threatening pose, but it’s size, stumpy legs and general cuteness made it impossible to take seriously. So they were able to catch it and after some work they were able to get it to drop all the treasures it had stolen just as Professor Kettleblack arrived and took the creature back.
“Ah, thank you, all of you, a wonderful bit of work. I’ll see to it the Niffler is sent back to the paddock and everything here is returned to its proper owner and such.” He said. “Take ten points each for your houses and um...I think that’s it for the day.”
The others just nodded, relieved, certainly not the craziness they were expected, even with a class on Nifflers.

Harry Potter: The Cost of Revenge
Chapter 9
It was getting close to Halloween and there where whispers around the school about the Dementors, so many were complaining about their presence. Professor Dumbledore in particular seemed rather annoyed at their presence but the Ministry had all but demanded the Dementors be posted at the school, due to the threats posed by Ezekiel and Angelo.
“Still can’t believe it, as if Dementors are going to stop those two.” Carla groused as she stood in the entrance hall with the others. “We all know there are so many ways into the castle and grounds that won’t bring them anywhere near those monsters.”
Jeff nodded in agreement. “Yeah, to say nothing of the threat those...things pose themselves. They don’t think about that, do they?”
Jamie sighed. “Exactly, Dementors are here for our protection say the Ministry, but then they find themselves unable to answer when the simple question is posed to them, who protects us from the Dementors, as they don’t care who they go after.”
“I know, it’s crazy, I can’t even...I can’t even focus to play my music.” Amara remarked. “And that’s the mildest reaction. Everyone else…”
They looked over Jennifer, Marli, Cameron, Toru and Ariana who all were rather tense and drawn, no doubt still dealing with the problematic memories that being near the Dementors would bring up.
Jennifer bit her lip and shifted, trying to think up a way to take their minds off the Dementors.
“So um, do we have any idea about, about what’s been going on lately, I mean, with the people who attacked us before?” She asked. “Your grandfather’s journal, Jamie, it mentioned a group he’d faced before and um, well…”
“I think you’re trying to ask if Jamie managed to talk to his grandfather about them and find out who they were?” Marli offered kindly.
Jennifer nodded and Jamie sighed.
He shook his head. “I didn’t have a chance, Grandpa’s been busy lately at the Wizengamot. Apparently there’s been a lot going on there lately.”
“Could it be connected?” Cameron asked warily.
Jamie shrugged. “I don’t know...urg, sorry guys, I just can’t think straight right now.”
“I know what you mean, the Dementors are messing everything up.” Toru said. “Honestly, that they’re still being used like this, Mahoutokoro wouldn’t let something like this happen, I can tell you that.”
The others nodded at that, only to strange feel something at that moment, a strange feeling as if the Dementors were no longer near the gates or walls, nowhere near enough to effect them, even slightly.
They all shared a shocked look at that.
“What, what could’ve happened?” Jeff burst out.
Carla pondered. “Something forced the Dementors to back off, but the only thing that could have done that is a Patronus Charm…”
“That is exactly what I did, young lady. Honestly, such monsters around a school, the biggest mess the Ministry’s made in years and that’s saying something.”
They all started and turned at the sound of the voice. It was gravelly from old age, but still deep and strong, carrying that Scottish accent. The Wizard approached them, leaning heavily on a cane in his left hand, he was old, his fair skin showed that age yet his hazel eyes behind gold rimmed hexagonal glasses were clear. His hair was kept short and was completely white along with the short beard he sported. He wore smart robes that showed the McIntyre crest on the left breast pocket and despite the cane he moved with an energy that befitted someone much younger.
Jamie instantly reacted, eyes widening. “Grandpa!”
This startled everyone else as the man reached Jamie and they shared a hug.
“Ah, Jamie, my boy. You’re looking well, I’m glad to see that.” The old man said as the two parted.
Jamie smiled. “Of course I am, I’ve...I’ve had help. Oh, everyone, this is my grandfather and namesake. Jamie McIntyre Sr.”
“Wait, wait, as in Lord Jamie McIntyre, leader of the Grey Party of the Wizengamot?” Carla gasped.
“The very same.” Jamie Sr. remarked cheerfully. “Ah yes, Jamie has told me all about you all, I thank you for being such good friends to him, especially after the adventures of the last two years.”
They all smiled at that, while Jamie Jr. rubbed the back of his neck, a little embarrassed.
After a brief moment of silence Jamie Sr. looked around the Entrance Hall with a smile.
“Good Merlin this is incredible, the décor is a little different but overall this place hasn’t changed is so many years…since I was a student here in fact.” He paused before adding. “Apart from Poppy’s Sanctuary of course.”
“Oh, the Poppy McIntyre Magical Creature Reserve…” Amara gasped. “That Poppy McIntyre, Jamie’s grandmother, that’s your wife, Lord McIntyre…”
Jamie Sr. nodded. “Yes she is...was. Poppy died five years ago.”
“Oh that’s right, we’re sorry.” Marli said.
Jamie Sr. noted her and smiled. “It’s alright Miss Egebe...you’re the granddaughter of my old friend Natsai correct, you look similar to her.”
Marli nodded and they all smiled.
“Ah...so many years, so many people.” Jamie Sr. remarked before clearing his throat. “Yes, Poppy died five years ago, but she had a good long life and passed peacefully in her sleep at the age of 113.”
“113?” Jeff gasped in amazement.
“Yes, you are aware I myself am now 118, Mr. Winder.” Jamie Sr. said with a smirk. “Ah, anyway, I am aware of what you’ve been talking about...your worries, I believe I know someone who can help you better than I could, since he’d at least be here more.”
“Oh?”
Jamie Sr. gestured for them to follow him and they did so as they made their way through the castle.
They walked in silence, Jamie Sr. showing his remarkable energy and speed in spite of his age and cane until they reached a locked door to an unused classroom. Jamie Sr. drew his wand from it’s holder in his cane and cast a spell on the door, unlocking it and leading them inside and through the dusty room, up the stairs at the end into the office. He then led them to a portrait in the back of the room where the occupant was sleeping until Jamie Sr. cleared his throat. The figure jolted awake saw him and laughed.
“Goodness, Jamie dear boy, the years haven’t been kind to you.”
“No, that’s the curse of getting older I’m afraid.” Jamie Sr. remarked.
He then turned to the nine gathered students who were watching in awe and confusion and made the introductions.
“Everyone, this is my mentor, Professor Eleazar Fig.”
Notes:
For those who have been following my full series, yes, Lord Jamie McIntyre Sr. is the same Jamie McIntyre for my stories set in the Hogwarts Legacy setting ;)

Chapter 10
The others gaped as they took in the portrait of Professor Fig, the portrait showed an elderly man with grey hair and brown eyes and dressed in blue clothing. He had a gentle warm smile as he observed the gathered nine. Jamie Jr. recognised the name and turned to his grandfather.
“Wait, isn’t he the Professor who took you to Hogwarts when you started, he became your Magical Guardian after, well…”
“Yes, after my parents tried to get their claws into me again.” Jamie Sr. remarked before nodding to the portrait. “I’m sorry I’ve not visited more, Professor.”
“It is fine, my boy.” Professor Fig replied. “I understand that time marches on and people move with it. You’ve had a full and busy life after all.”
Jamie Sr. became somewhat sombre at that. “Yes, about that...I’m sorry to say Poppy died five years ago...I am the last one left.”
Professor Fig started at that, before becoming saddened. “Oh, I am sorry.”
Jamie Sr. nodded. “Yes, it has been difficult, but...there is much that needs to be said. First, I need you to help my grandson and his friends, both here and in Hogsmeade.”
“Ah, my other portrait, at the house...do they know about that?” Professor Fig queried.
“Not yet.” Jamie Sr. confirmed before turning to his grandson. “Here, take this, the key will let you in, the parchment contains directions to our family cottage in Hogsmeade. Professor Fig has another portrait there, I am hopeful that you’ll make the most of this...danger is rising, the Cult has returned.
”
Professor Fig inhaled sharply. “Are you sure?”
“Yes, they are bigger, more dangerous and more secretive than last time, Professor and they are after my Grandson and his friends.” Jamie Sr. explained. “They need to know the history that has led to this moment...But I must speak with Albus.”
Professor Fig smiled and nodded. “I understand, I will tell them.”
Nodding Jamie Sr. explained how to access the room and the nine students gathered around to listen to Professor Fig while Jamie Sr. left the classroom, heading for Dumbledore’s office.
Making his way to the Griffon Statue, Jamie Sr. spoke the password.
“Kit Kat.”
The way opened and Jamie Sr. made his way up and into the office, Dumbledore was sitting behind his desk, looking over the two medallions that had been retrieved.
“Albus, my old friend...I see the cult has taken blows already.” Jamie Sr. said as he moved to sit down.
Looking up, Dumbledore nodded. “By their own hand no less, one is from Thaddeus when we cornered him last year, the other from Adelaide after she failed in her attack on Jane.”
“A third can be added, Solomon was confirmed to be a member too.” Jamie Sr. remarked, pulling a medallion out of his robes and setting it down.
Dumbledore looked over the three medallions for a moment.
Finally he sighed. “What does this mean...could they really-?”
“I’m afraid so, Albus. There’s no other explanation.” Jamie Sr. explained. “The Cult of Herpo have returned and now are no longer using masks as their identifying mark, but these medallions...We don’t even know how many there are or how they are structured. Only that there are more than the last two times.”
Dumbledore pondered. “You believe they’re coming after your grandson?”
“Him and his friends, all due to the Pact.” Jamie Sr. said. “There is only one option now, they must be prepared. I took them to Eleazar so he can bring them up to speed. But after that, we’ll need to ensure they can face them, they’ll need all the help they can get.”
Dumbledore nodded, understanding why his old friend was telling him this.
XXXXX
Meanwhile, with Professor Fig the nine all listened as he had detailed both Jamie Sr.’s time at Hogwarts, namely his fifth and sixth years.
“I apologise for taking this long but this is all important backstory so you understand what is to come. Jamie found my portrait shortly after his sixth year and told me all that happened. He came to me for advice and things progressed as normal, at least until nineteen twenty five.”
“Grandpa would have been...fifty then.” Jamie Jr. noted.
“That’s correct. He and Poppy were attacked by a new version of the Cult. That was when we learned that the Cult of Herpo is not just a basic group, they are a group that will exist and be reformed each time they are destroyed so long as there are those who yearn power for powers sake.” Professor Fig explained. “After destroying this version of the group, Jamie saw only one way to try and prevent them from getting what they wanted if they ever rose again. He created the Pact, an alliance between Hogwarts, Ilvermorny, Uagadou, Castelobruxo, Mahoutokoro and Beauxbatons. He then sealed his Ancient Magic away, along with the Ancient Magic that was sealed under the school in the Repository. He sealed in a particular Box...I assume you know the Box I mean, Miss Howells?”
Jennifer nodded, blushing at gasping the way she had. “Um, Y-yes...it’s the box my family stole, I stole it back and gave it to Professor Dumbledore.”
Professor Fig however nodded approvingly.
After a pause he continued.
“That is good, so long as it is here in Hogwarts, it can be protected. That was Hogwarts task in The Pact. Meanwhile the box was locked with four keys, keys which were protected by Ilvermorny, Uagadou, Castelobruxo and Mahoutokoro. Ah, yes, those are the keys.”
This time, Cameron, Marli, Ariana and Toru had reacted and reached to the necklaces they wore, that their parents had given them. Now it made sense.”
“And Beauxbatons?” Amara asked.
“They are the shield of the Pact, providing cover and protection among them.”
They all nodded at that, it certainly made sense now, the way Beauxbatons was taking in the refugees and holding strong against the attack on them, likely the Cult.
“So, what now?” Jeff asked warily.
“They are after you now.” Professor Fig said to Jamie Jr. “Given your stories that is the only thing that makes sense. You must be ready.”
They all were nervous after that, but nodded, preparing themselves, no doubt they’d need extra lessons and any advice Professor Fig could give. After leaving, they found a way to prepare themselves as the second round of the Duelling Club tournament was held, following the matches it was down to the final four, predictably Marli, Jeff and Cameron were all victorious, but the fourth semi-finalist turned out to be Pixie. But again she got an easy victory, due to her opponent being the second of her minions. Now they had to wonder what their next step would be, especially as the first Hogsmeade visit was looming closer.

Harry Potter: The Cost of Revenge
Chapter 11
The time at Hogwarts was turning inexorably towards autumn, the leaves golden, the air turning towards Halloween, however before then, before the day of the Halloween feast, there was something else that was due to take place that had the group, along with the other third years, all excited. It was time for their first Hogsmeade visit, they had handed in their permission slips earlier in the year to their heads of house and now it was time.
“You ready for this.” Jamie was saying enthusiastically.
Jeff grinned and nodded. “You bet, this is awesome, I can’t wait to get to Honeydukes.”
Toru nodded in agreement. “Yeah, me too, I’m looking for some of those um...Fizzing Wizzbees, I think?”
“That’s them.” Amara confirmed. “Me though, I’m looking forward more to Zonko’s, that’s gonna be awesome.”
“Isn’t that the, the prank store?” Carla asked warily.
“Yup.” Amara replied with a smirk.
“Seriously, there’s more to Hogsmeade than that.” Marli said with a soft laugh. “There’s the Three Broomsticks, Gladrags Wizardwear, Dervish and Banges.”
Cameron nodded and continued. “You’re right, that’s not all. Scrivenshaft, The Magic Neep. Not to mention the Shrieking Shack.”
Ariana laughed as he took this all in. “That’s, wow...I don’t even know where to start…”
Jennifer nodded too. She had to admit, it was a bit of an edge for her and the refugees who lived in Hogsmeade when Hogwarts was not in session, so it gave them serious knowledge of the village. But still, something left her feeling nervous.
Jamie noticed her struggles and bit his lip, feeling his face heat up, nevertheless he spoke up.
“Don’t worry, I can see you’re concerned about something, but we’ll all get through this together, right?” He said.
The others all grimaced as they realized what he meant, due to her past, her family being involved in the theft of the box, abusing her and of course, everything they’d just learned.
“Yeah, we can help.” Jeff said at once.
Amara nodded. “Once we get to the village we’ll do things to help you out, we just need a chance to relax, it’s the least we deserve right?”
Jennifer smiled at that, brightening up, hopeful again. Soon they went to join the other third years and up as they approached the main gates where Filch was checking off the students on a list to make sure only those who had permission were leaving. Finally they all got through and soon they regrouped and began walking down the path towards the village, it wasn’t easy having to pass the Dementors but they managed it and soon Jennifer was feeling better and the group of nine were all ready to start exploring the village together as they finally arrived.
“Here we are, ready?” Toru asked.
Jennifer nodded and the others took the lead, it was time for the fun to begin.
Some time later, the group was once more happy and things were going well, the exploration of the village had been perfect and Jennifer and the refugee students had shown the other four around. This left them all amazed by many of the shops and even some areas they hadn’t expected to see. They had also purchased some sweets from Honeydukes and looked over the other stores, Amara had purchased some products from Zonko’s while they were saving some money for the Three Broomsticks. They had just visited the Shrieking Shack and were now heading to said Three Broomsticks.
“This has been amazing, thanks you guys.” Jennifer was saying happily.
“Of course, no trouble.” Jamie said happily.
They’d seen some familiar faces around town too, however they hadn’t had any problems with Pixie thankfully not noticing them, but then something happened.
They were just about to head to the doors of the Three Broomsticks when suddenly they heard a loud noise, almost like an explosion.
“What the-?” Jeff blurted out.
They then saw it, it had been an explosion and then came another. There were screams, shouts and then the doors of the Three Broomsticks opened and they were all shocked as Professors McGonagall and Flitwick emerged.
“All students return to Hogwarts at once!” McGonagall shouted, wand pointed at her throat to magnify her voice.
She joined many of those who had drawn their wands and were heading towards the explosion as the group shared wary looks before hurrying back to the school.

The atmosphere was tense, the students were all gathered in the Great Hall, trying to enjoy the Halloween Feast, even though the school was under lockdown following the incident in Hogsmeade.
“This is just...so many are trying to pretend it’s another typical Halloween Feast.” Marli said softly.
Amara nodded. “I know, but we all know, that was an attack, there was an actual attack at Hogsmeade, we don’t even know what happened.”
Indeed, while everybody was eating, drinking and trying to exchange pleasant conversation, there were too many whispers, furtive glances, nervous looks. It wasn’t until the feast finally ended and everyone had eaten that Dumbledore stood up.
“Your attention please.” He announced. “It has been brought to my attention that the incident at Hogsmeade was the work of Ezekiel and Angelo, the Dementors are searching for them as we speak. In the meantime, for your safety you are required to remain here in the Great Hall for the night. We will patrol the school while the Prefects, Head Boy and Head Girl will keep watch in here.”
This brought more whispers and feelings of shock, but finally everything changed as they began working into action. The tables were vanished along with the seats and several sleeping bags were conjured. Everyone grabbed one and found a spot to sleep, the group naturally moved together, all settled down to get ready while the teachers left and the Great Hall was sealed. The group all lay together, sharing glances and wondering just what this attack meant, were the duo after them, was this the start of something bigger?

Harry Potter: The Cost of Revenge
Chapter 12
Waking up the day after Halloween, it took Jamie a few moments to understand where he was. Then he recalled it all, the attack on Hogsmeade, the Halloween feast under lockdown and then sleeping in the Great Hall. That was where he was now, the Great Hall. He sat up to see Jeff, Carla and Marli already awake and chatting with each other.
“Hey.” He greeted.
They all turned to him, smiling.
“Hey Jamie, morning.” Jeff greeted.
Marli nodded. “So...what will happen now?”
Carla shrugged. “I’m not sure, never had something like this happen before.”
There were some yawns and they turned to see Amara, Cameron, Toru, Ariana and Jennifer now waking up. Seeing them they all quickly greeted each other and quickly finished getting dressed and ready as they now sat together, wondering what to do next.
“So...we know that Ezekiel and Angelo were involved in the attack, but we don’t understand why, or where they are now, do they...are they still there?” Jennifer wondered aloud.
The others shared looks, knowing what she meant, it was tricky, complicated, they had no idea what to think about it. Of course they had to be confronted on the matter by the worst possible person.
“Ohhh, what’s this, looking to stick your noses in where they don’t belong again, gonna go hunting for two criminals.” Pixie teased. “I would’ve thought you’d be all over this McIntyre, after all, they made you look like a weakling first year.”
But to her fury, they didn’t even respond to her, simply continuing to talk amongst themselves, as if she didn’t even exist.
Before she could push the matter, the doors opened and the teachers entered. All students stood at once, the Prefects, Head Boy and Head Girl all approached before quickly getting order restored.
“Good morning, well first the good news.” Professor Dumbledore announced. “While we confirmed that Ezekiel and Angelo were behind the attack they are no longer a direct threat. Unfortunately, the bad news is that they were able to escape and so we must be wary until they are found. You are free to return to the other areas of the castle but for today at least, I ask that you do not enter the grounds.”
There were murmurs and talking and finally, after sharing a look, the group nodded and, leaving the Great Hall together, they began to split off into pairs, except for Cameron who instead went to find and talk to his sister. After watching him head off, Marli and Amara smiled and began to walk back to the Gryffindor Common Room. They chatted happily together as they walked, but something felt different to them, strange even. Biting her lip as she walked, Amara glanced at Marli out the corner of her eye.
‘What is going on with me, I keep feeling this nice warm feeling whenever I spend a prolonged amount of time around Marli. She’s amazing, unique and I feel like...I don’t know, something feels like I’m missing something.’ She reflected.
Marli was also dwelling on his she was feeling lately and it began to make her think, to consider things.
She glanced out the corner of her eye at Amara. ‘I I feel like I’m...all this strangeness, it’s like I’m, floating. Could it be, am I truly falling for Amara, that would be...but I feel like I’m, oh, what if she doesn’t feel the same. I just…’
She shook her head, the two of them too lost or afraid, unable to figure things out with their feelings.
In the library, Jeff and Carla were studying for Transfiguration, further down the library Jamie and Jennifer were doing the same, only they were studying for Defence Against the Dark Arts.
“So...The Mice to Snuffboxes spell, is this going to be on the exam this year?” Jeff asked.
Carla nodded slowly. “I think so, I’m sure Professor McGonagall mentioned it. Are you having trouble?”
Jeff sighed. “A little.”
“Here, let’s look over it together, I’m sure I can help.” Carla offered.
Jeff was surprised by this but nodded and began to go over things together. As they did so, Jeff became rather self-conscious, aware of how close Carla was to him now. Her skirt brushed his thigh, their knees briefly touched. He swallowed, unaware that Carla had noticed it too and was focusing very hard on the book, despite her face heating up. It was clear to anyone looking that they were forming crushes on each other, but they were avoiding it. Meanwhile, Jamie and Jennifer were dealing with the same awkwardness, especially for Jennifer who was certainly not used to things like this due to her background, the way her family had treated her. She wished she could just say what she felt, but she was too afraid, unaware that Jamie was also wishing he could find the courage to confess. Instead they both just focused on their reports on Kappas.
Meanwhile, up in the Astronomy Classroom, Toru and Ariana were reading through some books that would help them with their homework. Toru checked out another book, something that would help them with an upcoming class in fact.
“Hmmm…” He muttered.
Ariana looked up, smiling warmly. “Found anything interesting?”
Toru bit his lip, looking over at her, their eyes met and they felt if, a strange shift, as if there was something within them that made them feel, incredible. They both guessed what it was, but couldn’t bring themselves to act on it.
As such, Toru instead cleared his throat. “Looks like we’ll, um...we’ll be able to see the Orion Nebula. M42. Apparently...You can actually make out the Trapezium cluster if you—uh—if you look carefully. Those are the four stars at the core of the nebula. Well, technically it’s more than four, but the main four—Theta1 Orionis A, B, C, and D—they’re the ones that—”
He stopped, realising he was rambling while Ariana just smiled and nodded, both of them noting exactly what they had missed, but feeling too awkward to pursue it.

Harry Potter: The Cost of Revenge
Chapter 13
Excitement was building at last after the debacle at Halloween, the reason, it was almost time for the first Quidditch match of the season, Gryffindor vs. Slytherin.
“You got this Jeff.” Ariana told him reassuringly, actually mirroring his words from the previous idea.
Jeff however, grinned this time, more confident. “Thanks Ariana.”
There had been some concerns about Quidditch this year, especially due to the Dementors. The Ministry had put up a fight due to ‘them being necessary to protect the school’. Dumbledore was not happy about having such creatures near the school and even pointed out that the Dementors were a bigger threat to the students safety and in the end a compromise was reached and the Dementors would still be in the area, but moved further away from the school at least for the duration of the Quidditch Match.
“I still don’t get how the Ministry keeps thinking that those things being here is a good idea.” Cameron groused as he joined them.
Carla nodded as she came up. “I know, it’s crazy, but there’s no talking sense into some people.”
The others joined too and began to relax and chat happily until it was finally time.
So it was then, after the teams already left, that the students found themselves walking down to the Quidditch pitch, showing their support for Gryffindor or Slytherin and moving through a crowd of murmuring and enthusiasm.
“Hey guys, wow, this reminds me so much from last year?”
The group turned to see an excited looking Amara approaching, once again she’d gone even further than them in her support, and notably wasn’t choosing favourites, being a Gryffindor but with a friend on the Slytherin team. Aside from carrying a flag and scarf for both teams, she had painted red and gold stripes on one cheek and green and silver on the other.
“Yup.” Marli confirmed. “You don’t do things by halves, do you?”
Amara laughed. “Absolutely not.”
They all laughed and continued on their way, sending smirks at Pixie as she stalked past, snarling at them but not having the courage to approach them, since her minions were not present.
Seated in the stands hearing the cheering crowd and the whoops, everyone once again got swept up in the moment, enjoying the excitement of the crowd, taking in the sights of the Quidditch pitch before them.
“Ladies and Gentlemen.” A familiar voice rang out. “Welcome to the first Quidditch game of the season, today’s game, Gryffindor vs. Slytherin. Time for another year of Quidditch!”
The came another familiar voice. “Ohh yeah, let’s get started, Gryffindor and Slytherin are all fired up again, let’s see the rough stuff.”
Sure enough Matthew and Fergus were on commentary again and were up to their usual tricks. They were all getting hyped up as they focused on the pitch, as both teams were already in position and Madam Hooch had started the game. At once the action began as the players soon began their titanic struggle to begin. The commentary immediately picked up, detailing the action.
“And they’re off, Gryffindor in possession of the Quaffle, Gryffindor Chaser Franklin Kendrick off to a good start, streaking up the pitch there, weaves through the Slytherin Chasers, oh here comes a bludger, nice dodge there, Kendrick shoots...Oh and Keeper Winder of Slytherin blocks it spectacularly!”
There was a torrent of cheers from the whole crowd, enjoying the match as a whole, the group grinned, this was quite thrilling and the match had only just begun. They knew Jeff would be happy with his improved game already, once again, even though they weren’t sure they could be heard, they shouted encouragement, hoping to keep him going.
“And now Slytherin in possession. Keeper Jefferson Winder passes out the Quaffle to Slytherin Chaser Roberta Irvine. quick move there, dodges both bludgers, attempt by Gryffindor to intercept, no another dodge, well played. Oh she shoots, no a fine catch by Gryffindor Keeper and Captain Angela Cole.”
“Evenly matched already, this is looking to be a tricky one. C’mon Slyterin, let’s see some creative play, this might be your only change.” Fergus remarked.
“Fergus, we’ve been over this, play by the rules.” Matthew protested.
Fergus scoffed. “Ah, that’s boring.”
Everyone laughed, still liking the banter between the two, she turned her attention back to the match as the Gryffindor Chasers began moving around the pitch, passing the Quaffle between them to try and keep the Slytherin team from claiming possession. Finally, after a close dodge, Claudia Martin took another shot and once Jeff effortlessly blocked the shot, the group cheered the loudest in response to this.
A short while later however, the tide had turned a little, Gryffindor had 20 points, two goals, Slytherin still on zero. They had scored both goals following Jeff being injured by bludgers. But still Jeff soldiered on, refusing to give up. The group grinned as events continued and the commentary continued.
“And Slytherin is in possession again, they’ll need to really up their game, Gryffindor’s still in the lead and-Oh wait a minute, was that the Snitch!?”
There were shouts from the crowd and Fergus gasped.
“Oh my, it is...there go the Seekers!” He called.
Both Seekers were streaking after the Snitch, everybody watched in amazement and crying out in dismay and horror as they ended up colliding and falling to the ground, the snitch vanished.
“Ohhhh, bad luck there. Too bad, guess there won’t be a catch for Gryffindor this time.” Fergus teased.
Matthew snorted. “You do realise there isn’t a catch for Slytherin either, right?”
Fergus counted. “Don’t be silly, that was just a trick to make sure the game didn’t end too soon.”
“Oh puh-lease.” Matthew shot back.
“Hey, it was a smart plan, it keeps the fun going and stops Slytherin from losing.”
Matthew groaned. “Will you stop?”
Everyone laughed at that and play resumed, with it being revealed that Slytherin had taken advantage of the distraction to score a goal and now, in a flurry of impressive playing, the score had been pulled up to fifty-forty in favour of Gryffindor. In the end however it was not to be as another appearance of the snitch saw Slytherin pull out the win with a final score of 190-40, leading to much celebration from the green and silver.
Notes:
So yeah, I admit to it being similar to my other Quidditch chapter, but that's just how it turned out...to be fair I don't think I'll be covering any more Quidditch chapters from now on, they are just too difficult.

Harry Potter: The Cost of Revenge
Chapter 14
The seasons turned, the days continued and now it was almost Christmas time, the snow blanketed the grounds. Maybe students had been worried upon first seeing the snow, given it was thick enough to almost bury Hagrid’s hut. That said if it had been anyone but Hagrid living there, it might have been a problem, but Hagrid had no problem pushing his door open and digging his hut out from the snow. Many students actually watched this display of strength from the windows and some even cheered once he was out. Hagrid had just chuckled at that and, without any hesitation, just got to work clearing up pathways and going about his duties. As Christmas drew nearer word began to spread around, another Hogsmeade visit was due to happen. So everyone was ready to go, gearing up against the cold and soon made their way from their common rooms and down to the Entrance Hall where Filch was waiting to check everyone off for their visits as usual, to make sure nobody who did not have permission did not try to sneak out. The group soon met up and all smiled as they prepared for their next visit.
“Ready for this?” Jamie asked.
Jennifer nodded, more confident this time. “Sure, say...I was wondering, could we check out something we missed last time?”
Jamie nodded. “Yeah, sure thing.”
He noted the others making plans too and it seemed that, except for Cameron who reassured them he had other plans, they would be splitting up around the village in pairs. Soon enough they were on their way down to the village, enjoying the walk through the pure white snow.

Jamie smiled lightly as he led the way and soon he stood with Jennifer at the fence on the hill, overlooking to dilapidated Shrieking Shack.
“Wow, this place is…” Jennifer said shakily.
Jamie nodded. “It’s said to be the most haunted building in Magical Britain, for a long time, years ago, you’d hear noises at least once a month from the shack, shrieks and screams, things breaking.”
“R-Really?” Jennifer gasped worriedly.
“Yeah, they say it’s poltergeists, angry ones, not like Peeves.” Jamie explained, before smiling reassuringly. “Oh, don’t worry, it’s been quiet for years now, but the reputation remains.”
Jennifer bit her lip but nodded. “Wow, that’s, that’s some history.”
“More like folklore.” Jamie remarked, shaking his head. “I researched it more. Rather interesting that these noises all happened once a month, on the full moon.”
“Werewolves?”
“Werewolf, singular...likely a student who went there to turn without putting others in danger.” Jamie explained.
He sighed, it was a sad story about that werewolf, he knew them, but he wasn’t ready to talk about them yet. As if sensing this, Jennifer didn’t say anything, but instead, they stood, slowly drawing closer due to the cold, only to realise what they were doing and began to blush and feel awkward, which confused them, wondering why they were feeling this way.

Marli looked around the shop with interest, she had never actually been inside Dervish and Bagnes before.
“It’s mainly used to repair magical instruments, but...they have other things too.” Amara explained, seeing Marli’s gaze.
Marli turned, smiling and nodding. “Makes sense, gotta admit, it’s some place. So, what brings us here?”
“I’m looking for new sheet music for my piano.” Amara explained. “I want to find some new pieces to play.”
Marli grinned at that. “Wow, sounds great. I’ve heard you play a few times, you’re amazing.”
Amara felt her face heat up. “Oh, um...it’s nothing special really. I just…”
“Trust me, you’re good. I want to hear you play more.” Marli said, rubbing her hands together and blowing on them.
Amara noticed this, sheet music still in hand as she turned to her.
“Are you okay, you cold?”
Marli shrugged. “Y-yeah, a little...not as bad as last year. I’m still adjusting to it being colder here, it was much warmer in Africa after all.”
Amara nodded, understanding. “Hmmm, hey, stick close to me okay, should be warmer.”
Marli looked at her, eyes wide, before nodding, only then did Amara realize what she said and both girls averted their gaze, feeling strange all over again.

Meanwhile, in Honeydukes, Ariana and Toru were browsing the shelves, taking notes of the various sweets. Chocolate Frogs, Pepper Imps, Fizzing Whizbees, Acid Pops, Sugar Quills, even packets of Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans to name a few.
“Interesting.” Ariana remarked. “There’s so many different wizarding candies. But there’s some that seem exclusive to some countries, huh?”
Toru nodded, biting his lip. “Yeah, it’s...it is interesting. But it also kinda makes it easy to miss some things from home.”
“Huh...That’s true.” Ariana replied, nodding slowly. “Still, there are some things that are weird regardless.”
She nodded to the Unusual Tastes section which made Toru chuckle. However both of them were noticing something else, a by now familiar warmth that grew as they stood close to each other, something which left them curious and a little concerned, but decided to worry about it later and buy some of the sweets to enjoy.

Jeff and Carla had found themselves in a rather similar situation to the others, all while seated together and enjoying time at the Three Broomsticks.
“Here you are, two Butterbeers, enjoy.” Madam Rosemerta said with a warm smile.
They thanked her and took their drinks while they sat back in their seats and looked around.
“It’s actually pretty cool when you think about.” Carla said. “Sometimes, it’s fun to just sit back and watch people.”
Jeff smirked. “You’re right, sometimes the best shows are the lives of people passing by, giving a glimpse into their lives.”
They smiled warmly at that, sharing a look, a look that began to get them to feel that strange warmth again, both were blushing and unsure what to say or do, wondering why they were suddenly feeling this. They quickly realized that they were staring at each other and quickly looked away, trying to find something else to look at, to get back to people watching, wishing they could make sense of those strange feelings.
XXXXX
Cameron meanwhile was looking around furtively, he bit his lip. Unsure how to approach this, he didn’t want to be seen by anyone else. Not yet. Unlike the others, he had worked things out and even made sense of things, but this led him to a different problem, especially being fearful if he got caught, fear of how people would react. He cleared his throat, looked around and, seeing no one else around, he carefully made his way to the bridge that crossed the river, not crossing it however, instead he slipped underneath it and there he was, Jose Vargas. One of the fifteen refugees, one from Castelobruxo. A strongly built five foot three boy, hazel eyes gleaming on seeing Cameron, his tanned skin a beacon in the snowy weather, brushing black hair back from his face.
“You made it.” Jose said warmly, before he asked quietly, warily. “Were you followed?”
Cameron shook his head. “No.”
That was all Jose needed to hear and as soon as Cameron was in reach they had their arms around each other and their lips locked in a soft but warm kiss.
