Work Text:
It was a particularly slow day, all of the dateables had finally settled down their excitement after almost a year of being Realized people, and you were finally relaxing back into a normal schedule—as normal as it could be with around a hundred partners, not that you were complaining.
Being surrounded by so many people that loved you, that would drop everything just to hang out with you, was a bit overwhelming at first, but always having at least one person to be there by your side at any given time had you elated.
Love; that feeling of being loved so wholly, of freely giving your love to others was—an unfamiliar feeling, though not unwelcomed. You didn’t have the time or energy to have a partner during college, or any other part of your life until you were forced to stay at home and interact with your newly-discovered roommates.
Falling in love with said one hundred roommates was just a bonus of what was supposed to be a devastating experience. The house felt emptier than it was before you got the Dateviators when all of them eventually left, but that loneliness was short-lived when they all came rushing back to your arms.
Imagining their faces when you finally Realized them had you smiling uncontrollably, if you had windows in your office, passersby might think you were crazy. The thought of falling in love, and Realizing them was a choice you never regretted, and you were sure to do it over and over again every time.
With languid movements you push the pile of papers to the side of your desk, finally finishing a literal mountain of work that was forced onto you as Vice-President. The office chair rolled back as you lifted your arms to stretch, letting out a content sigh after a job well done.
Taking a peak at the computer clock announced it was later in the day than you told Skylar you were going to finish, you should definitely think of a way to apologise when you met—even though you weren’t at fault for Franklin suddenly dumping more work on you.
You turned off the lights in your room and rushed out the door with your backpack, only to be stopped by a very cute redhead in bubble braids, holding out a letter.
“Sam! Amp sakes…” You clutched at your shirt, surprised at the sudden visit. “Did you need something?”
“Well I was going to ask you to read this letter, but who’s Amp?” She gave you a sly smile and a quirked eyebrow.
You silently curse Eddie and Volt for saying it so much around you it became a natural expletive, “Nothing—don’t worry about it,” You let out a sigh as Sam hands you the letter.
It was sticker sealed, a cute pink and orange heart, an obvious sign it was written by Skylar if the handwriting didn’t give it away.
‘To my Favorite Human (aside from Franklin),
Please meet me on the rooftop of the Valdivian Building! I may or may not have a very special surprise for you which may require Samantha to place a blindfold on your eyes.
Love you! <3’ She wrote in clean, slightly tilted cursive, with little hearts as dots for the i’s, and flourishes on the t’s
You took a quick glance from the paper and back to Sam who was holding a pink blindfold. If it was someone else you would be quick to assume you were being punished for overworking yourself and missing a meeting, but Skylar of all people?
The smile she gave before getting behind you made you worry it was something the two were planning, though the now empty space in front of you gave attention to someone else standing next to Sam, Tom! You quickly gave him a wave before your world was suddenly shrouded in darkness.
“Hold onto me tight okay? I just know you’ll trip down the stairs or something.” Sam gave you a nudge before interlocking your hands with hers.
“Awh, you know me so well,” You let out a humorless laugh as you elbow her arm playfully.
The two of you chuckle before she tugs you forward, slowly leading you in the direction of the elevator, with Tom not so far behind, hauling your bag for you. It may have only been a year but you know most of the layout of the building by memory, the cold metal rails helping you steady yourself when you’re unclear of where you’re facing.
It was hard to confidently follow along with Sam, aside from the blindfolds she tugged and pulled on you at every direction and corner, making you bump into a few walls in her haste. Her chuckles as you hit a pole indicated she was definitely going to do it again.
The whole office was probably staring at the blindfolded Vice-President being guided by a former employee, who was also letting them get hit by walls and carts. The hushed whispers of gossip were shut out when the metal door behind you closed, from the stagnant smell in the air you were in a fire escape.
Carefully Sam led you up a few flights of stairs until another metal door squeaked open and closed behind you. A small ‘Oh!’ from Tom was quickly silenced by multiple people shushing him quiet, before he shuffled away from the two of you.
You raised an eyebrow, wondering how many people were up there with you until Sam let go of your hand, leaving you without a point of reference in the cold air of the night, an especially freezing current sent shivers up your spine.
“I’m gonna take it off now okay, make sure not to turn around til’ you tell me what you see,” Sam asked while trying to stifle a laugh, you could hear a lot of people trying to muffle their laughter and excitement.
Slowly she took off the blindfold, and you opened your eyes to a beautiful sea of stars. The glittering night sky was a stunning wonder in the city, constellations sprinkled in between bright lights and suddenly the cold empty feeling was replaced with a beautiful moment of warmth.
“It’s… a beautiful view, like one you’d find in a movie or something, do you have a camera I’d love to capture–” The question dies in your throat as you turn to face an even more beautiful view.
“Surprise!” You get bombarded by glitter, confetti, and the sight of a huge majority of your partners in person. A sea of faces full of adoration and a rainbow of hair colors.
“What are you all doing here?!” A laugh escapes you as you walk into the group, giving hugs and kisses all around and letting your laughter devolve into a fit as it gets muffled by lips on lips, hearing multiple answers at once, “Okay—okay! Slow down, No more kisses until I get a straight answer from you!” You try to act threatening despite the huge smile and lipstick marks on your face.
Someone clears their throat loud enough from behind you that makes everyone quiet down to silence, turning back to the dark blue sky juxtaposed to the girl with a beautifully pink and yellow-streaked ponytail billowing in the breeze.
“Hey you,” Skylar's smile was as radiant as ever as she looked at you, hands tucked behind her fluffy fur coat.
“Hey you, too,” You smile back with the same affection, blush dusting your face as you walk up in front of her. “What is all this?”
You chuckle through your teeth as your cold hands meet one of hers, her thumb drawing circles into the palm of your hand that covers hers.
“I told you I may or may not have a special surprise for you.”
“Well, It’s a very special surprise from one of my very beautiful girlfriends.” You state before kissing her forehead through her pink hair.
She swoons under your chaste kiss, a blush as pink as her hair creeped on her face. “That’s only half of the surprise.”
You quirk an eyebrow, there was more than this? More than getting a majority of your partners—with very conflicting schedules together to throw a surprise for you, what are these sunglasses planning?
All the questions you were going to ask to make her crack and tell you disappeared from your mind when she knelt down to the ground, one knee holding her body as her heels raised to balance herself, wait—she's not going to… is she?!
Your jaw went slack as she pulled out a small black box from behind her back, “Oh wow, this is definitely a lot more nerve-wracking than I thought,” She awkwardly chuckles as she holds onto your hand. “I did have a whole script but, I’d rather say this from the heart.”
“We love you, that's obvious enough given how everyone took time to get here and surprise you,” She looked up at you, the same adoration and affection in her gaze as she looked into your eyes, oh those beautiful eyes of yours that she could stare at for all of eternity. “You; who listened the most, who trusted the most, who felt the most, and you who made all of this possible.”
“It wasn’t just me–” You get shushed by the silent, commanding look in her eyes, maybe give her the time for now before you go on self criticising again.
“You have brought so much love into this world by being you! By being the most wonderful human we have ever met,” With a deft hand she popped the ring box open to a beautiful silver ring adorned with orange and pink teardrop cut gemstones, reminiscent of the Dateviators that started this whole thing. “And if you’re willing, we’d all love to show you that love you’ve shown us, a hundred-fold.”
“So, would you marry—us?” It was a silly question, the most absurd question you have ever heard, ever.
Yet your lips part to nothing as tears start to form in your eyes, never in your entire life would you have expected someone to care so much for you, much less a hundred or so people. With shaky hands you bring Skylar up onto her feet before pulling her in for a deep and passionate kiss.
“Yes… Yes! And a hundred more yes’s!” You shout as you wrap your arms around her waist to hold her impossibly closer to you, words could never explain the way you feel for them, for all of them, so you’ll just have to show them how much they mean to you.
Skylar places her hand on your cheek, taking a good look in your eyes filled with tenderness and love, so, so much love, before bringing your head back into another kiss, with the background of a small village shouting their lungs out in celebration, tearing up as they hug and comfort each other.
You were never one for such a noisy environment, but you know you can get used to it if it was them. As you pull away from the kiss, Skylar makes an effort to slide the ring flush onto your left hand finger, you’ll have to ask where they got your measurement later but that's not important.
Taking a good look at the ring, it was cut in the middle, the silver wrapping around your finger parallel from each other like a vine, with two tourmaline teardrop cut gemstones sat firm at the ends, side by side, creating the allusion of a heart.
The perfect tribute for the Dateviators, the very thing that brought so much love into this world. The very thing that brought so much love into your world, what were you to do without her?
The legal implication of marrying a hundred and more people was definitely not lost on you, though that was an issue for later, now, you have to kiss your pretty girlfriend… No, your pretty fiancée, and the rest of your soon-to-be spouses.
