Hi! If you're reading this, you're probably new to fandoms and AO3 as a whole (if you aren't…dude). This is in no way meant to discourage anyone, I am simply trying to state some 'rules' to follow to enjoy works and have fun!
One thing I have personally been seeing a lot of is hate comments and such. Telling an author they 'suck' or even making threats is never okay. Seriously, don't like, don't read. Which leads into another point I'd like to make, and that is READ THE TAGS.
I guarantee you will have a wonderful experience and find so many amazing fics that are EXACTLY what you want. BUT YOU HAVE TO READ THE TAGS!! You can't expect everyone to have the same tastes as you. Telling someone they mischaracterize someone or that they're 'disgusting' for writing something you don't like because YOU didn't read the tags is all on you. If you don't like, don't read.
Another thing is that if you see a Dead Dove fic and it's not your style, don't read it and then flip out when it's something you don't like. It is an Archive. There isn't anything telling them they can't write it, but most times there are tags that let YOU know what is in it. However, I will acknowledge that sometimes an author doesn't think to tag it, or it might even say "Choose Not To Use Archive Warnings". If you click on a fic and don't like it, just exit out of it, don't go on a rampage saying someones messed up because you didn't like it.
A final point to make that I have seen SO many people complain about is this.
DO. NOT. ASK. FOR. UPDATES!
It is fine to say you 'can't wait for the next chapter!' But if you are commenting on fics saying "OMG WHEN ARE YOU GONNA UPDATE THIS" or "Give me a date for when the next update is!" is INCREDIBLY RUDE. You need to understand that people have lives. They can't drop everything to give you another chapter. The best thing you can do is wait patiently like everyone else. Also, don't go commenting on a fic asking if a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FIC is going to be updated! It's so rude and disrespectful.
