Work Text:
Militsioner was resting his head on his knees looking down at the small somber town below, the sun setting behind him placing a gentle warm glow on his back almost like a blanket.
As he tried to keep his eyes on the stranger he felt his eyelids grow heavy, the stranger just watched as his eyes slowly fell closed and the weight of the law lifted just for that night.
holding himself in a position that wouldn't result in a crumbling of a town if he decided to move in his sleep.
His mind finally shut itself down and he was able to rest.
And then he felt his eyes open, but the small town was gone, and the sea, finally he felt his ass drier than a desert which he was more than thankful for.
He was just wearing a plain grey t-shirt and black pants, sitting at a table with a few other officers in training.
Was he back in the police academy? Before he could fully register this thought a loud voice cut through. "All of you today have one task. It seems simple but trust me I've had my far share of cadets fail this, pick up a brick! But it's not any normal brick... It's an ant sized brick because as you all know you may get assigned to an ant people city, last thing anyone needs is to crush one of 'em folk trying to catch them."
The man with the gruff voice and in big bold letters on his grey t-shirt. "COMMANDING OFFICER" began handing out these small bricks. "Now begin!"
Militsioner's eyes shot around looking at the other cadets, some tried scooping the brick up, some tried to use their finger nails, some even tried to lick their finger and get the brick to stick on it.
A piercing stare from his commanding officer made him focus back on his own tiny brick, staring at it made him feel queasy and strange imagining some little criminal running around right under his finger tips.
And his finger tips were probably bigger than their whole body giving him a feeling he didn't enjoy, avoiding that feeling he lifted his shaky hand towards the tiny brick and with his finger nails tried to lift the brick.
To his disappointment all it did was leave a small crack in the brick.
Clearly finger nails weren't working and he wasn't about to get his slobber all over some poor person even if they were a criminal, so he tried the old fashioned way just with his finger tips.
And he tried, and tried and tried like all the other cadets and just like the other cadets he failed, he watched as a few cadets actually managed the task and moved on, others broke their brick in two and had to do twenty push ups.
Finally militsioner figured the perfect angle and finally picked up the brick shouting out an excited. "yes!"
"Good now can you try that with buildings between the brick?" His commanding officer asked as he led him to the next training task.
Militsioner let out a strangled groan, and slumped in his chair once his commanding officer left.
And then his eyes opened again, the sun shined brightly on the small town he'd seen for months on end.
The small stranger raised their hand and waved to the militsioner. "Thought you could use a sort of breakfast" the stranger said holding out an apple.
Militsioner's lips gave way to a sleepy smile and a half wave back to the stranger. "I could.. thank you." Militsioner took the apple with the most precision he could muster in his awoken state and had his little ant breakfast.
