Work Text:
Its been years since the four ceremonies happened for the four Champions. Even then, nothing has happened. So far. Everyone is keeping up with their duties, training, weapons and armor. Still. As seconds turn into hours, hours turn into days, weeks turning into months, no signs of evil. The occasional attack of Bokoblins don't count as Revali can easily one shot them with a lightning arrow and call it a day. Its leaving the six of them restless and on edge. Princess Zelda still has yet to unlock her powers, and her father continues to pressure and belittle her.
That reason alone is why Revali doesn’t accept to go to the meetings they hold regularly. Of course, he does join a few every now and then, but he leaves early due to the “long flight back home before dark” or “I have to take care of my training” excuses. Seriously, why isn’t King Rhoam saying something?
Oh wait, because he doesnt care.
Princess Mipha and Revali often talk through letters. He has been a little nicer over the past 3 years to everyone. Hes very fond of the guppies (little Zora children), and Goron pebbles, much like he is to Rito hatchlings. He doesn’t see little Hylian kids as much, but he has seen Sheikah children before when the group of 6 went to Kakariko Village.
Despite the long stretches of uneasy peace, something good has come from it: time. Time to grow, to connect, to actually understand one another beyond titles and duty. What started as a group of warriors brought together by prophecy has slowly become a found family of sorts. Daruk’s booming laugh has a way of breaking through Revali’s sarcasm, and even the Rito has learned to laugh. Though he’ll deny it every time. Urbosa, ever the calm and watchful presence, often mediates their bickering with a knowing smile, reminding them that strength isn’t just about skill or power, but trust.
Mipha, gentle as she is, has been the glue holding them all together. Her kindness softens Revali’s pride and steadies Daruk’s overprotective nature. And though Urbosa never says it aloud, she sees the quiet bond forming between them all, the kind forged not in battle, but in understanding. They’ve trained together, dined together, shared frustrations about royal duties and sleepless nights waiting for a threat that may never come.
They’ve learned each other’s habits, quirks, and silences. Revali doesn’t mock Daruk’s slow thinking anymore- not as much, at least -and Daruk has stopped trying to drag Revali into every feast. Urbosa sometimes catches them talking together, quietly, when they think no one’s watching. Even that small thing feels like a victory.
Though the kingdom may still be on edge, within that small circle of Champions, something stronger than fear has taken root: friendship. The kind that could withstand whatever was coming next.
