Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Chapter Text

Chapter 1

Robby is a doctor. But more importantly, a monster hunter.
Well that was the rumor. He couldn't exactly market his hunting business as monster hunting without being the talk of the town, in a bad way that is.

Now how he became a monster hunter is a medium length story, I'll keep it brief though.

You see, after he moved towns and completed his studdies monsters got more common.
Even though there was an overwhelming amount of things that pointed to there being *something different* than us out there, only the "kooks" really believed the murders and "accidents" were supernatural, and not just human murders, or wild animal attacks.

Robby had encountered a few monsters of his own, so he was one of those kooky people scaring the kids with creepy stories of monsters.
...
Well he didn't go scaring kids, but you get the gist.
*Ehem*
He had hunting experience, one of his neighbors had been a hunter back when Robby lived with his grandma.
"It takes a village to raise a child."
So 20 years ago he started a business. Really it was only a side hustle. But everyone in town knew that Dr Robby was a hunter, and would help you if you asked him to.

It was the middle of winter and the sheep farm of the town had complained something was biting their sheep.
Robby walked up to the farm where he met a concerned farm lady, she was dressed in a pair of unbuttoned overalls, a nice pair of warm boots, mittens, and a warm coat made out of lether and wool.
Quite fitting honestly, but he couldn't help but wonder if the sheep ever noticed or cared about what her coat was made of.
His own coat was made of the wool from these sheep, what if they want to reclaim what is rightfully theirs? Is he going to experience death by a herd of vengeful sheep?
...
Prolly not.
Anyhow, the lady had tan freckled skin, a crooked nose, brown eyes and light brown hair with strands of gray running through it. She had a fuller figure and looked to be quite strong, with the nature of her work he could only assume she was.
He had lived in this town long enough to know her name was Mari Madden.

He cleared his throat before he spoke, "So there's something wrong with your sheep, Ms Madden?".

"Oh call me Mari darlin, no need for such formalities." Her voice was sweet and laced with a country accent.

"Okay then, Mari."
She was an older woman but it still felt weird that he, a 45 year old man was called "darlin".

She shot him a smile as sweet as honey before she spoke again. "Ah, yes well, no. I don't really understand quite what's happening, some of em have some.. *peculiar* injuries and I just can't for the life of me figure out what's causing it."
Mari hesitated for a moment, like there was something she didn't want to say. "Well, I've noticed bloody bites on the necks of some of em. I'd like to say it was a fox terrorizing them but eh.. Well.. The bites look almost.. err.. human.?"
Mari's hand rested on the back of her neck for a moment before it moved down to her hip.

"Human bites?" The fact that the bites she spoke of were on the neck reminded him of vampires already, but why would a vampire not kill the sheep? And wouldn't it be difficult to get through the thick winter coat of the sheep?
He shifted his weight from one leg to the other and he spoke, "Can I see the sheep that have been bitten?".

"Of course." Mari said before leading him to their barn, she walked up to a stall with a few sheep. "These have all been attacked this month... Every injured sheep before that has died." She opened the gate and gestured for him to go in.

Ah, so sheep had died. He nodded and walked up to the sheep, he bent down to one of them and looked at the neck, making sure to be careful to not frighten or anger the sheep.
"Hmmm..."
The bite was definitely human, but two of the front teeth looked deeper. Like fangs. This only further supports his theory of a vampire being the cause. He let out a breath a little bit louder than he had meant to. "Eh.."

Mari leaned on the the gate, and furrowed her eyebrows. "Well what do you think?"

He stood up properly and walked out the gate again, he looked Mari in the eye. "As much as I hate to admit it, it looks like the bite of a vampire." He shifted his weight uncomfortably.

Mari shot up and took 2 steps back back. She opened her mouth as if to speak but no words came out. She closed her mouth and opened it once again, this time she managed to speak. "You're telling me I have a vampire runnin' 'round my farm?"

"Possibly, I don't know for sure yet but it is likely due to the nature of the injuries." Robby tried to sound calm but he was not exactly thrilled about this either.

"And how the hell do we fix that? I can't have a vampire running 'round my farm for the rest of my life, nor running 'round in the town! What if this monster gets sick of sheeps blood?" She sighed loudly and put her hand to her forehead, she took a deep breath and mumbled something to herself. "Well I suppose I already suspected it was something supernatural, I did get the *monster hunter* after all."

He thought for a moment, he really didn't know what to do yet. "I can't say I know what to do just yet, I'm sorry. But trust me, I'm not thrilled about this either."

Mari's "roommate" came to the door of the barn and a look of surprise was painted onto her face. Mari's roommate being Hannah-Maria Ringheim.

Dr Robby always felt the name was a bit long, but who is he to judge.

Hannah-Maria had thrown a dark coat and a scarf over what looked to be a yellow dress underneath a pink apron laced with ruffles and red hearts.
Rather cute honestly, Robby was absolutely jealous of that beautiful apron, though he would never admit it out loud.
Hannah-Maria had dark skin, a hooked nose, long and beautifully curled brown hair, it was loosely tied back with a ribbon as to not let it get in her face. Her eyes were such a dark shade of brown they almost looked black, but he swore there was a circular spot of a much lighter shade of brown in her right eye.
Her body wasn't very pronounced underneath the thick coat but he could tell she had a fuller figure, and wide hips.
The two women both worked here on the farm for a living, so he assumed he wouldn't be able to pull off stealing the apron.

She shot him a smile, not quite as sweet as Mari's but it was sweet nonetheless. "Ah, Dr Robby hi. Sorry to interrupt, but Mari you really have to come help me with the cinnamon buns. I'm struggling."
He couldn't help but notice how her voice was smooth as butter when she talked.

Mari chuckled and turned to Robby. "Sorry darlin, you're free to hang out with the sheep for a bit longer but I really do have to go before she burns the kitchen down."

"Ohh-kay, yeah, that's okay."
He shot them a smile as they left, as forced as it was, it was still a smile.

Robby looked at every individual sheep's bite mark. He swore one of them wanted to steal his coat, but he managed to not be assaulted by sheep.
The bites were always only one singular bite right on the neck.

As he walked away from the farm back to town he couldn't help but think about the nature of the two ladies' relationship.
He always thought there was something off about those two. Two old women on a farm together, a 20 minute walk away from town, neither of them were married and no kids either?

*Good roommates*. *Roomates.* Yup.

Notes:

Did you clock the pop culture refrences? 👀

Ehe I'm tired. This might be dogshit, i might've burnt the bacon, i might've set the kitchen on fire. But we move on.
ANYWHO, the next chapter will be more from Jack Abbot, and chapter 3 will be Whitakers chapter. 4th chapter will tie the three together, i hope. And i have no further plans than that 😀👍.
