The Rhythm of Life

Summary:

A short one shot about Player Character, or PC's, everyday life pre-dateviators. Very little exploration into how PC is viewed by the objects before they can properly interact. Lore if you squint?

Notes:

Found this one-shot again while looking through drafts for my other works. I wrote it a while ago and wasn't sure I was gonna post it. But it's pretty nice, actually. Short and sweet. And totally not at all relevant to my real life or based on me or anything.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

The human made their way around the house as usual, earbuds in their ears playing music loud enough that it could be faintly heard by any object that happened to be close enough. They moved somewhat synced with the music, faster or slower according to the tempo of whatever was playing. Sometimes they would sing, or whisper-sing, but usually they bobbed their head or maybe tapped their foot, if they were sitting. It drove Lyric crazy when they would read, they didn't understand how it wasn't distracting. And Phoenicia was maybe the most annoyed, since she couldn't escape the music that she had to play for them. But it was mostly unobtrusive. Just strange. It was near 24/7, the only exceptions being when the human reached their own limit. It was seemingly an arbitrary limit. But some patterns had been noticed by those who cared to watch that carefully. Too much stimuli, such as tasks, or other sounds, would sometimes get the music turned off. And rather than giving the human sharper focus, as one might expect, it seemed to have the opposite effect. Like the human was suddenly too aware of their own body. They were more likely to run into or drop things. Even broke a plate before shortly after turning their music off following the making of a to-do list and a heavy sigh. The expression on their face was very hard to read right then, but the appearance of Doug was very telling as to what they were feeling. The music came back on right then, and everything got cleaned up. Ultimately, nothing was really a big deal. Though Daisuke had been a bit upset, he did get over it.

Overall, their human was just a mystery. Some worried a bit, but most just did their jobs without thinking about it too much.

Notes:

I'm hoping to get at least one chapter each for my other works out by December, but we'll see. Been a bit busy lately but it should be dying down. And honestly, I've been wanting to write. Thought I would update anyone who may care. Hope you enjoyed the short read!
