Chapter Text
Highschool. A living nightmare is what everyone calls it. However, there's this girl. Yes, I know what you're going to say. "Oh my god, you're in love!?!?!" No. I'm not, I'm in anything but love. I hate this girl, she's so happy and excited at seven in the fucking morning. Like, who walks into school, skipping with your books in your hands like you just arrived at a theme park. It's a school, babe. Not princess wonderland. Anyway, my friends all say she's cute, but I can't agree. She's just a nerdy little Asian girl. With a stupid book obsession. She always sits alone at lunch, a new book in her hands. Today she was reading "Girl in Pieces." NOT LIKE I WAS STARING AT HER!! I just... happened to catch a glance at her! ANYWAY, besides that. She's such a fucking werdio. She just moved from the Philippines, and her English is surprisingly good. My friends keep telling me to go talk to her, pfft. As if I want to be friends with an absolute nerd.
Fuck. She got sat next to me in art class. AND the teacher is making us partner up with the person next to us. I want to fucking pass away. I sighed heavily and sat up, pulling out my art binder. "For this month's project, you are tasked with making a sculpture out of clay. It can be anything, an animal, a person, blah, blah, blah. It must be over five inches wide and tall." Mrs. Montgomery would say loudly, pacing in front of her desk as she explained. I just spun my pencil around on my hand, grimacing every time the pencil fell off and onto my desk. I let out a heavy puff, leaning back in my chair. Once Mrs. Montgomery finally stopped fucking talking, the girl beside me had to open her mouth. "Hi! I'm Lorelei." I glared over at her, sitting up and acting kind. "Harvey." I stated simply, shifting in my seat. "So, what are we doing for the project?" She asked softly, her voice was so smooth. So quiet. It was like a bird whistle, smooth, calm, high pitch, and carried a soft melody. It was kind of attractive in a stupidly gay ass way. I just shrugged, looking down to my pencil and fidgeting with it once more. "I don't know. An animal maybe?" Lorelei nodded, opening up one of her notebooks that was very organized and aesthetic. Sections divided into squares, bows and cute squiggles along the sides, as well as her name written in CURSIVE. PERFECT CURSIVE. How can a 15-year old's writing be so perfect?! Was I jealous? FUCK YEAH, I WAS? She quickly scribbled down the word "Animal;" in her notes, then turning back to me. "What's your favorite animal?" She asked softly, followed by a gentle smile. "My favorite animal...?" I asked in confusion, no one's ever been interested in me before. Lorelei nodded enthusiastically. "Yes, yours!" I just chuckled, my gaze softening as I spoke up once more "Bunnies. Not rabbits, the ones with the floppy ears." Lorelei let out an "AWWHH." It felt mocking but, I knew she meant well "Oh shut up." I mumbled, shaking my head and looking down to my hands and fidgeting with my fingers. "No, no, it's cute!" She giggled, kicking my desk playfully. "It is not cute!" I stammered back; I could feel my own cheeks starting to burn in embarrassment. "What's your favorite animal then." I huffed heavily, hoping to have some kind of dirt on her. "Grimpoteuthis." I paused. "...What the fuck did you just say." Lorelei let out a giggle and leaned back in her seat. "Also called a dumbo octopus." I just stared, oblivious to what the fuck she just said. "So... You basically?" Lorelei's eyes widened, she let out a snicker and tilted her head. "Is that an insult or a compliment." I shook my head, sighing softly. "I'm calling you dumbo from now on." Lorelei put a hand on her chest, acting offended as her jaw dropped open and her other hand rested on her forehead. "I am wounded, Harvey. Wounded." A smile cracked at the corner of my lips, just nodding and putting my feet on my desk.
Sadly, I had to actually try on this project. I just wanted to lay back and let Lorelei do it all, yet I couldn't. I kind of felt like running away and just avoiding school forever. Yet here I was, in my bedroom with Lorelei standing hesitantly at my door. "What's wrong. You look like you've seen a ghost." I spoke up, sitting on my bed. She just eyed my electric guitars on my walls, I had 3. One yellow and black, one blue and black, and one all black. She shifted on her feet uncomfortably, her eyes soon falling on me sitting on the bed. "You do not give off good kid vibes..." She murmured, almost like she didn't want me to hear her. "I get straight A's if that's what you mean." I shrugged, falling backwards and hitting the bed with a grunt. Lorelei just stepped forward hesitantly, shivering as she looked around. "Eugh..." I immediately sat up. "What do you mean "Eugh..." Is something wrong, princess?" Lorelei tensed, looking towards me and scoffing softly. "No, nothing. Just not what I'm used to." I nodded, pulling my legs into a pretzel and rocking back and forth. "Soooo, the project?" Lorelei nodded, pulling her notebook out. "Yes, yes, uhm... Let's see here." Lorelei flipped through pages of her notebook, while I just picked at my nails, waiting for her to start. "We never agreed on an animal." Lorelei spoke softly, looking up to me. I groaned and fell backwards, hitting my head on the headboard with a harsh THUMP. "Ow..." I mumbled, quickly sitting back up like it didn't happen. "Let's do an owl." I spat out, causing Lorelei to raise a brow. "An owl?" She questioned; I just nodded. "Yes, an Owl. It's a powerful creature, is it not?" Lorelei nodded, agreeing with me then scribbling down in her notes. "Yeah! I like that." A soft smile crinkled at the corners of her mouth, watching her bite her lip in focus as she wrote. It was cute...
