Chapter 1: Prologue: Why Do I Miss You?

Chapter Text

Life was quiet for now. The spirit of Esmé had crossed over so you weren’t able to feel her. Sometimes you missed her but the grief that came with it wasn’t missed.

You’ve grown closer to your parents now more than ever before. They loved having you home and of course you were spoiled. Any craving you had, Gomez would fetch it. If you were cold, Morticia would wrap you in her shawls.

Pugsley loved the fact he was going to be an uncle. He promised he’d be the best. Your little Pugsley wasn’t so little anymore since he sprouted like a weed and his gift came through.

He had a spark like his uncle Fester. He’d be going to Nevermore now. You wanted to go back to Nevermore to continue your student teaching since your track was rudely interrupted.

You wanted a bit more practice on rearing the youth before your little one would show up. Life was odd like that. Even after the hell you were put through, it kept going. You were able to get some justice but it took away the man you loved.

You hadn’t turned your phone back on since you started getting phone calls from Willow Hill. At night you would listen to the voicemails from Dr. Fairburn and a couple from Donovan.

“Hey sweetheart, I just wanted to check up on you to see how you were doing. I know saying sorry doesn’t make up for everything that happened but, I’m sorry. I hope you and the baby are ok. I gave the sonogram to him like you asked. He did get upset and he asked me where you were.”

The phone cut him off before he could finish.

You decided to hold off on calling him back for now. The baby moved in you, a swift kick to the side to make you lay down.

“Yes darling I’m lying down.” You changed into your nightgown and set down your engagement ring on the nightstand.

“I’ll talk to your daddy soon…I’m still upset for what he did.” You placed the pillow under your growing belly, tucking in one of Tyler’s shirts with it.

“Raven.” Wednesday knocked on your door.

“Black bird.” You called out to her, waving your hand to open the door.

“I came to see how you are before I go to Kansas City.” She sat on the other side of your bed and Thing joined in.

“I listened to the voicemails from Willow Hill and Sheriff Galpin.” You braced yourself for her to be course but she touched your hand gently.

“It’s perfectly normal to seek him out, you could always drown him child support payments.”

“I want to do it before you and Pugsley start school again.” You felt the baby move a little. “I think this one is adamant about seeing their father.”

“I hope I have a niece, another girl to mould in my ways to join my dark crusade.” She moved her hand to your belly, feeing the kick.

“At least let me potty train her before you’re galavanting around Europe.” You chuckled. “Your auntie Wednesday already loves you so.”

“How about you drop me off at the airport in the morning and take a detour to Jericho.”

“Alright. I’ll probably stay overnight.” You snapped your fingers to get your bag out of the closet.

“Don’t go disappearing on me.”

“Why don’t you sleep with me tonight? Like we use to.” You offered.

“I’ll be back.” She left your room for a moment.

Thing signed to you asking if you were ok.

“I just miss him…why do I miss someone that betrayed me and their child.” You looked at him.

He signed that love is strange.

“I know it is.” You heard Wednesday coming back into the room with her blade.

“Ready to slumber.” She made her side of the bed comfy before she crossed her arms over her chest. “Goodnight sister dear.”

“Goodnight, my little moth.” You yawned as you fell asleep on your side while Thing shut off the light.
