Chapter Text
It was the first week of April, and spring was in full bloom, with the world full of color again. Isaac’s due date was coming soon, as he was due the first week of April. Isaac was due to have the baby on the 5th. Nigel was at work in the office, and Isaac was home resting. Thorfinn, Hetty and Trevor were coming from the city to help him decorate and set up the nursery. Isaac got up from the couch and was looking for something to eat in the fridge. He got himself a low-sugar, low-fat yogurt and heard a knock on the door. He waddled his way to the door to open it, to see that Hetty, Thorfinn and Trevor were outside and ready to set up the nursery.
“Isaac!” Hetty smiled and said with joy, hugging her friend, “It’s been forever!”
“I know,” Isaac said happily, rubbing his pregnant stomach, “Thank you guys for showing up so late-notice.”
“No problem.” Thorfinn said, holding a toolbox full of tools, “Friends help friends.”
“Yeah, bro,” Trevor wrapped an arm around Thorfinn’s neck, “Totally going to help you out!”
Isaac was on the brink of tears, “This is the nicest thing ever, I can’t stop thanking you guys.”
Hetty wrapped an arm around his waist and started walking him to lie down on the sofa. When they got there, Isaac laid down, and put his hands on his pregnant stomach.
“You stay here and rest,” Hetty began, “and we’ll do the work.”
Isaac grabbed his copy of 1984 by George Orwell. He had a student in his class that was obsessed with the book, and Animal Farm written by the same author, and he wanted to start reading more with Nigel, so why not? He and Nigel were reading whenever they could, and talked about what parts they were on when they went to bed. Nigel already finished the book, and Isaac was almost done, so he decided to finish the book. He liked it, even though it was pretty dark. Isaac kept reading, and he kept feeling the baby kick. They were kicking harder than usual, but Isaac got used to it. Isaac just kept reading so that he could talk about the book with Nigel.

Thorfinn, Trevor and Hetty decided to split the nursery work. Thorfinn and Trevor would do all the building and heavy-lifting, and Hetty would set up the bed and clean up the nursery. Thorfinn and Trevor just finished the crib-building, and Hetty was setting up the toys, because she discovered Isaac’s nesting instinct got to the clothes already being organized. They kept everything going, and everything was going smoothly.
“Hetty, Trevor, Thor…” Isaac called, “Can you guys please come see?”
They stopped what they were doing and rushed to Isaac. He was looking pretty pale.
“The baby’s been kicking like crazy, and I’m in a lot of pain to the point I don’t think I can handle it anymore…” Isaac told them, the pain present in his voice.
“It happening?” Thor asked Isaac.
“Yes,” Isaac started shouting in pain, “No…maybe? I don’t know, I'm so confused!”
Isaac then bursted into tears
“Calm down, Isaac.” Hetty tried to soothe Isaac.
“The pain is too much, please I need help!”
“We have to take him to hospital at once!” Hetty demanded, already trying to carry Isaac, who was moaning in pain.
“Right…um…should I call Nigel and tell him?”
“YES ARE YOU INSANE-AAAAAGHHHHHH” Isaac screamed at Trevor in pain, while Thorfinn took Isaac from Hetty and was rushing him to the car. Trevor followed them to the car Thorfinn, him and Hetty took while Hetty and Thor took Nigel and Isaac’s car. Isaac was in a lot of pain and his breaths were labored.

Trevor was rushing, and he was calling Nigel to tell him that Isaac was off to the Hospital. He was hoping Nigel picked up, but he didn’t. So, he had to make a pitstop at the law firm Nigel worked at. Trevor made it to the firm and was greeted by the secretary, Patience.
“Can patience help you?” Patience asked Trevor.
“Tell Nigel Chessum Isaac’s going to the hospital and he’s in a lot of pain.” Trevor told her, then had to wait because she was getting a call.
“One second.” Patience halted Trevor, “Front desk! How may patience help?”
“Come on…” Trevor worried.
“Yes Mr. Chessum,” Patience was talking to the person on the phone.
The name made Trevor’s ears pop up. Maybe it was Nigel?
“It’s finally happening?” Patience asked him, “Patience is happy, and someone is here for you.” Patience paused and then held her hand over the phone’s speaker, “Name?”
“Trevor Lefkowitz”
“Trevor Lefkowitz. He says Isaac’s in a lot of pain.” Patience told him. “Yes, I’ll let the boss know you’re taking off, just go.”
Nigel rushed out the door, his fear shrinking a bit seeing Trevor.
“Come on!” Trevor grabbed Nigel’s arm and pulled him to the car, “You’re not backing out of this one.”

They left the firm and got in the car. Nigel was having a panic attack in the passenger seat.
“It’s already happening…oh my god…” Nigel was taking, thanking deep breaths.
“You’re not being a deadbeat. Not happening!” Trevor kept telling Nigel, driving fast “You’re staying here for Isaac, and that baby!”
Nigel kept taking deep breaths. They were speeding and almost at the hospital.

The trio was at the hospital, and Isaac was going through all the emotions-mostly anger and sadness as he was crying, and getting angry at everyone. Thorfinn was carrying Isaac into the emergency room, as Isaac was in a lot of pain to the point he couldn’t walk. Hetty followed them as they went to the hospital desk.
“Name?” The secretary at the desk asked them.
“Isaac Higgintoot.” Isaac managed to wheeze out.
“Alright,” The secretary smiled, “you had a C-Section scheduled for tomorrow?”
“Yes but I’m in a lot of pain and I think it’s time already!” Isaac told the woman, as he wheezed it out.
“I’m sorry,” The woman looked at Isaac, “We have to wait until-“
“Doctor Gatz!” Isaac looked at the doctor walking into the waiting room.
“Hello, Isaac!” She greeted, looking at Isaac being carried in Thorfinn’s arms, “Baby trouble?”
“I feel like I’m in labor!” Isaac cried in pain.
“Nauticia, tell the ward his C-Section is being pushed to right now due to an emergency.” Doctor Gatz looked at the secretary, “Notify them, please.”
“On it!” Nauticia looked at Doctor Gatz, reaching for her phone and began making phone calls. Nigel ran in, and Doctor Gatz let Nigel in with Isaac. The group had to wait outside the room until they were done.
