Work Text:
Ginny grabbed her satchel off the desk and jogged over to the library. She had to write an important essay for her class. As Ginny was walking into the library, she ran into a fellow student. “Oomph.”
“I’m so sorry.” The young woman tried to grab Ginny before she fell on her arse.
“It’s alright, miss.” Ginny smiled before something in the corner of her eye made her gasp. “NO! ARNOLD!”
A little pygmy puff ran out of her bag and into the library.
“What is that?” The woman inquired.
“That’s my pygmy puff.” Ginny jumped to her feet. “I’m never going to find it.”
“I’ll help you since it was my fault.” The woman shook her head. “Oh, I’m Bill, by the way.”
“I’m Ginny.” Gin flashed a smile before groaning. “I didn’t realise that it got into my bag before I came here to work on my paper. Great. Now, I’m going to get kicked out of the library.”
“Not if I can help you find it.” Bill gave her a wan smile. “You say it’s name is Arnold?”
“Yes, It’s Arnold, and it’s purple in colour.” Ginny described him. “My brother George gave him to me when I came here.”
“That was nice of him.” Bill grinned. “Shall I go this way?” She pointed left.
“Alright, and I’ll go right.” Ginny crouched down and looked around the shelving. “Oh, come on, Arnold.”
Bill went away from the check-out desk to try not to garner the librarian’s attention. She ducked behind one of the aisles and went to the backside to slowly search for the little guy.
Ginny was frustrated because it was eating time into her writing time block. She glanced at her watch and groaned. “That’s what I get for not checking my bag.”
Ginny went to where she normally sits and dropped her bag on the table. She checked to see if there were any treats for him and shook her head no. “Bloody hell.”
“SHH!” A passing student hushed her.
“Sorry.” Ginny slumped before working her way back to the door, peaking under tables and shelving.
“Miss Weasley!” The librarian chided her. “What are you doing?”
“Um.” Ginny looked up at the woman. “Madam Pince.”
“Yes?” She cocked her eyebrow.
Bill came around the corner and saw Arnold on the check-out counter. She glanced over at Ginny and saw that the librarian had her cornered. “Shite.”
Bill slowly walked over to the counter to grab the flurry little thing. When she tried to grab it, it squeaked really loud.
“What is going on here?” Madam Pince stormed over to her counter.
Bill tried to stuff the Pygmy Puff into her coat pocket when it squeaked again. “I’m so sorry. Arnold escaped my bag when I ran into Ginny earlier.”
“You brought in an animal!” Madam Pince screeched.
Ginny was shocked that Bill took the blame for Arnold. “But Madam Pince, he’s cute, isn’t he?”
Madam Pince’s eyes cut to Ginny. “No animals are allowed in here except for guide dogs!” She pointed to the little furball. “That isn’t a dog!”
“Right. It isn’t a dog. It’s a pygmy puff.” Ginny explained. “I was going to do my paper, but now I can’t because you are mean.” Ginny stormed to get her bag and threw it over her shoulder. “Come, Bill!”
Bill just followed Ginny out with Arnold in her hands, leaving the librarian stunned. After they got down the stairs, Bill stopped. “I’m so sorry.”
“Forget it, Bill.” Ginny waved her off. “That’s weird.”
“What’s weird?” Bill looked at her, confused.
Ginny took ahold of Arnold and put him back into her bag. “Well, I have a brother named Bill.”
“Oh, I see. How many brothers do you have?” Bill was curious.
“Six.”
“SIX?” Bill’s eyes popped out. “Dang. Lucky.”
“Why lucky?” Ginny was confused.
“Because you have siblings,” Bill replied.
“Ah. You are like my friend, Hermione. She’s an only child, too.”
“What are you going to do now?” Bill smirked at her.
“I’m going to take you to the café and buy you a coffee. Thanks for catching Arnold.” Ginny started walking again.
“Don’t you want to put him in your dorm room?” Bill called out before walking again.
“I should, but it’s way over there.” Ginny waved at the bank of buildings at the opposite end of the quad.
“Oh, damn.” Bill shook her head. “Yeah, you do get him secure?”
“Yes, I made sure that he’s in there more.” Ginny laughed. “George will get a kick out of the story, though.”
Bill opened the door. “I’m in need of a coffee before I try to meet up with my professor.”
“Oof.” Ginny entered the café. “Let me give you a pick-me-up before you go.”
“Alright.” Bill followed her to the counter and ordered her drink. “I hope we can both get into the library again.”
Ginny snorted. “She has to because Arnold didn’t damage anything.”
“That’s right,” Bill smirked. “Can we swap numbers?”
“Sure.”
They both took out their phones and swabbed to type in their contact information. They slightly blushed as they returned the phones.
“Bill!”
“Oh, my drink is ready.” Bill gave her a quick hug. “Talk to you later?”
“Yes,” Ginny smirked. “Text me later.”
“Will do.” Bill grabbed her drink and raised it as thanks as she walked out of the café.
Ginny heard her name and grabbed her coffee. She wandered outside and went back towards the library. Ginny sat down on a bench near it and pulled out a textbook to read one of her chapters. ‘I’ll just write that essay after class.’
Ginny’s phone pinged, and she glanced at it.
Hey Ginny, do you want to meet for dinner sometime?
Ginny sat back to think about it. She was pretty. I just got so sidetracked with Arnold that I didn’t even give her the proper visual.
Ginny texted back. Yes, please. Do you want to meet back at the café?
Ginny watched the three dots go across and laughed at the message.
No, we should meet outside the library since that’s where we met. Say seven?
Ginny smirked as she typed back. Should I bring Arnold or leave him home?
Bill responded. It might be best to leave the little guy home so we don’t have to worry about him.
Ginny murmured. “Too true.” She texted back. Good point. See you then.
Ginny tossed the phone back into her bag and realised that it was time for class. She trotted to the class building.
