Chapter Text
The Midoriya household was never a particularly quiet one. When Hisashi was there there would always be music playing and laughter to be heard. Even now he's gone, Izuku was quite a loud one when he wanted to be but Inko didn't mind. Their house was a home filled with childish laughter, shrieks of joy and excitement; usually that is. Today was not a day like that. In fact one Midoriya was having a particularly bad day, most may agree.
“Mama I’m hungry and my front teeth really, really hurt!” Izuku wailed on his mothers lap, salty tears soaking into her jumper as she tried to calm down her baby boy. All she wanted to do was take the pain away, but her mind was foggy, she couldn't think straight.
He was at that tender age where teeth fall out, and new ones force their way in. The first time Izuku teethed as a baby, he was so easy to deal with. He was satisfied with just the teething toys and the teething gel but this time? Nothing was working! Suffice to say, he was in a little more pain than the average teething child.
Inko liked to believe she was a decent mother. She was on her own with Izuku now; nevertheless, she tried her damndest to provide for her son both materialistically, but to also give him a loving, nurturing environment to grow up in. Above all else though, she tried to keep him safe and free from harm.
She was prepared for motherhood to be no walk in the park, she expected that. No sane person could expect parenthood to be easy. What she wasn't prepared for, was to have a vampire for a child.
One may question just how, exactly, did Inko not prepare to have a vampire child. Surely her husband was a vampire himself for this to happen. Truth be told, Inko didn't know he was a vampire till it was too late.
Yes, Hisashi’s skin was always cold to the touch and incredibly pale, he also had dark hair, freckles that stood out in the pale canvas of his face like constellations in the night sky, captivating red eyes and sharp, pearly white canines- but she didn't know he was a vampire! Why, that wouldn't be anyone's first guess in a world full of all types of quirks that can do any manner of things.
Looking back, she probably should’ve clocked it before he was killed by a hunter. Now though, she has to raise Izuku without his help and no real gauge on the vampiric abilities Izuku is likely to gain in the coming years. The whole vampire child thing came out of left field for the green haired mother really. Why did he not display any vampiric tendencies as a baby--why now?
There was no point asking these questions now, for she had a dilemma on her hands: Izuku's hunger. She fed him normal food yet he was still always seemingly hungry. Then it occurred to Inko, Vampires drink blood. They don't eat normal food. 'How could I be so very silly?' she scolded, internally.
Following this train of thought, she picked up the still crying child on her lap, dressing him to leave the house, and rushed to the butchers in search of animal blood in an attempt to quench the boy's thirst.
Thankfully, It worked! Inko slumped back into the couch gladly sat next to her happily, drinking the crimson blood hungrily from his favourite plastic All Might cup.
Once he finished, he lent over putting the empty thing down with two little hands and smiled up at his mother. It was an innocent thing, a little boy offering a toothy grin to his parent for quenching the insatiable hunger he once felt.
The thing that startled Inko however, was the teeth that weren’t there a mere half hour ago, specifically the fangs. Inko tried to bury her surprise and offered a slightly forced smile. The child didn’t in fact notice the strain in Inko’s returned smile and instead thanked his mum and skipped off to his room to go colour in and most likely research and analyse heroes meanwhile, Inko had some research of her own to do.
It turns out, although vampires like to keep hidden, there were a lot more of them than she thought. There's even some hero’s rumoured to be vampires like Eraserhead, she would have to tell Izuku, he would be overjoyed to know there are probably heroes like him! Now don't get Inko wrong, she will always be worried about her baby boy; but the whole Izuku technically being undead thing, really reduced the worry she felt over Izuku going into the hero industry.
That evening, Inko decided it would be a good idea to tell Izuku about him being a vampire. The two Midoriya's sat at the small dining table, a pleasant quiet buzzing between them. Izuku kicked his legs as he hummed to himself, adding the finishing touches to his masterpiece, a drawing of the hero Snipe. Meanwhile, Inko fiddled with one of her chopsticks trying to come up with the best way to tell her son that he’s a vampire. Surely she couldn't just say 'Izuku sweetie you're a vampire with supernatural abilities that will probably only get stronger with time as well as the quirk you may or may not be able to activate.'
“I'm a vampire momma?” Izuku asked, tilting his head like a lost puppy; she said that all out loud. Well at least she knows where Izuku got his mumbling habit from.
“U-ugh yes sweetie. You're a vampire, just like your dad” Inko gave a small -hopefully reassuring- smile to Izuku as his face contorted in thought for a few beats before he started beaming, once again displaying his new fangs.
“I can't wait to tell Kacchan on Monday!” Izuku, who was now stood up, jumped up and down, practically vibrating with excitement. “Now we can for sure be heroes together even though I don't know what my quirk is, IT WON'T MATTER!” Izuku had tears of relief and happiness brimming in his eyes.
Izuku and Katsuki’s relationship had gone downhill. It started just over a year ago when Izuku's quirk gene was found to be dormant, the doctor had told the mother and son duo that it was a waiting game to see how and when his quirk would activate. Katsuki had called Izuku useless and weak for it and started ignoring him but now he knew for sure he was going to get some kind of power now he would be friends again.
“Now Izuku I don't have a problem with you telling Katsuki, but do try and keep this secret. Being a vampire is nothing to be ashamed of, but some people still don't like vampires and might eyen hurt you because of it. So only tell people you really really trust, okay darling?” Inko explained slowly as she ran gentle fingers through soft curls.
“I unda-understand mama, I'll be extra careful I pinkie promise!” Izuku agreed as he leaned into his mothers touch, offering her a soft, wobbly smile and a tiny pinky to link her own with.
