Summary

Took me months to finish this. I read all the way til the end in a few sittings, but when it came to their goodbyes I couldn't follow through. I let this story sit with me and it consumed my thoughts for months, but I never found the strength to read the last chapter and the epilogue because I didn't want to see it. The end. Their end. I wanted them so much, so I held onto every scene before their final one. It was just today that I heard someone mentioning The Great Gatsby that I instantly got reminded of this fic and my body started shaking and my eyes teared up haha, seems like it can't differentiate the thrill of emotions I felt reading this from an actual emotional event in my life. That's why I love art, the way you can transmit so many feelings and its beauty. I had to come back to finish the story and it was amazing. Bittersweet never tasted so sweet and so bitter at the same time. It felt right, but it crushed my heart. It made me uneasy but it's perfectly put. It's satisfying yet leaves you with the most heartbreaking lingering longing. At the end all the yearning they once felt came straight to me, but I couldn't be happier that they're happy.

“Why does it have to be him?” Katsuki blurts out, because really, that’s what he wants to know. “Of all of the fucking people in the world, why does it have to be him?”
“I was confused about it at first too,” Kirishima admits. He sits up a little straighter. “I mean, you guys fucking hated each other for the longest time. You couldn’t even be in the same room together without getting into an argument or breaking a table.” He laughs a little. Katsuki doesn’t understand how any of this is funny. “Then one day, you guys came into work and… you smelled like him. Everything calmed down after that. It was like all of that hatred and tension was just your way of trying to process your feelings for one another. Once you guys finally, uh, talked it out, things got better.”
(In which Katsuki Bakugou is attacked and loses all recollection of his relationship with Izuku and has to learn to fall in love with him all over again. Faced with a hero case involving a serial killer and missing omegas, Katsuki needs to learn to put aside his own prejudice and open himself up to truth.)

It's been years since Deku has been in Japan, and Bakugou could care less about his sudden return. So what if his inner Omega is quite obsessed with his smell? He doesn't have time to worry about someone who abandoned them all when he's struggling to stand on his own as an Omegan hero. But when a new case involving multiple missing Alpha and Omega heroes and sidekicks turns up, Bakugou is forced to work with the one person he would rather not. And also forced to accept and explore the feelings he's had since he presented back in high school.
