  1. Paul is most to blame for this, for sure. I remember in the books, Chani even tells him to consummate his marriage with Irulan and have his heir with her, but he's not willing.

     

    It's not a popular opinion, but I believe Irulan wouldn't have minded having Chani in Paul's life if he had respected her as his wife, empress, and mother to his heirs. I say this because it's normal for an emperor to have concubines, and Irulan's own father had them.
    I think Paul could better understand Irulan's reasons for not wanting to remain his wife if he "looked" at this alternative future. But even without that, her desire to divorce him is very valid.

    Elia and Alicent are two of my favorite female characters!
