    One of the things I hated the most while watching Outer Banks was how obsessed the show became with treasure-hunting, while completely ignoring the characters and their relationships.

    For me, the most frustrating example is how they sidelined John B and his father. From season one, we saw John B torn apart by the loss of his dad, but once the father came back, the writers only focused on Big John’s flaws and never gave us any real insight into what John B actually missed, or what that loss did to him.

    I get it — treasure-hunting is the core of the show, one of the main plot engines. But I couldn’t care less about it.

    Why wasn’t season four focused on the characters?

    Sarah and Rafe and their relationship.

    Kiara and her complicated dynamic with her parents.

    Pope, how he gave up his dream, and what that did to his relationship with his family.

    Cleo her past with Terrance, how she bonded with him, and what her life looked like before him.

    John B drifting without a purpose, trying to find a new one maybe through Sarah’s pregnancy and how he wants to be a better father than his own ever was.

    And JJ his real origins, and how he deals with the fact that he thought he was one person, only to discover he’s someone else entirely.

    Honestly, that’s exactly why you never see fanfiction focusing on the treasure hunt. No one is interested in that storyline.

      Thats so true, I think the show could have been a teen drama like 13reasons why wjere it focuses on the characters bit even there they could have gone deeper into it. Anyways My fav is jj so I wanted to see more of his story ofc, I'm also not a big fan of Kiara so I wasn't interessted in her character much but they could have done more with her parents. Pope is so underrated because they don't focuse on his character same as cleo. John B stsrted to annoy me because they made him so obsessed with the tressuer hunting that he kinda went off character. I love Sarah but in the show they make her rich and pretty prevelege very obiouse like everyone being okay with her cheating and so on. Same with rafe, because he is hot and reach plus fans like drew starkey they let him go with everything. And back to jj, there was so much to tell about him, also I'm no fan of what they did in season 4, luke not being his father made the story so weird and some things luke said to jj in season 1 made no scense like " you are a worthless pieces of sh, your momma knew" or where he told him why he wouldn't help his own blood. I think they could have made it that larissa hat an affair with Luke and thats why groff killed her or something like that I just don't like what they did with that storyline. And ofc killing jj was where they went complitly wrong, I think this kind of saddness doesn't fits obx but netflix always does that. Gave us a traumatic past character who is still kind and trying to be better just to make them suffer even more and then kill them. But in obx I never thought they would kill someone off the main group especialy not jj because he was a fans fav. I don't even know if I wanna watch season 5 tbh because from the behind the scenes I see that rafe kinda is with the pouges all the time and I don't want him to replace jj and without him its just weird, he was the reason why I started watching it

        At first, I honestly thought about skipping season five of Outer Banks. But now I’m holding onto one hope something that might finally give JJ fans like you and me what we’ve been waiting for, if the writers actually do it right.

        Here are the things I want to see in season five:

        A full flashback episode of the Pogues when they were younger how they met, how their dynamic formed, everything we never got before.

        And I want the Pogues’ own perspective on JJ, plus all the stories and moments with him that we didn’t get to see on screen.

        If they give us those two things, I’ll absolutely enjoy season five.
