    oh my goodness, this is such a cute story! I love the "actually good foster family" and "local couple adopts every mistreated child -- 'they're our children now' one told reporters" tropes.

    not very many fics have Jesse with food insecurity, and I'm appreciating it! I'm also appreciating runaway!Shimadas ^-^

    just a heads up, though, you've got some uncapitalized singular "I"s, and announced should probably not be capitalized where it says "He Announced in defeat." really minor stuff, really!

    I can't wait to see how this all develops!
