Freddy Mercury is the one who's always resonated with me most, because "We are the Champions" is so anthemic, and then he died of AIDS in the early 90's. Elton John... Oh, I hadn't thought about him. Thanks for reminding me. He's probably the one I'd be most likely to actually write into the story, because of his music not being as usable for tags at the beginning of chapters. And Frankie Goes to Hollywood of course. But probably just by borrowing a bit of lyrics from them.
