    Yeah, I had a really similar experience! I wasn't super interested in it when I first heard of it but then I saw a lot of positive posts about it on the internet, so I decided to watch it and got so much more emotionally invested in it than I expected. Now whenever I think of twins or polydactyly or tourist traps my mind just goes "omg Gravity Falls," and I too am now living on GF fanfiction.
