Comment on The Problem With Roommates

  1. That's nice, my favorite is Jou. While some may say he was very cowardly during Adventure, I think his (long lasting) reaction to the digital world was the more normal of all (sans Takeru's, but he was a little kid, so him going along everything that happened was more expected), I mean, the others had their freakouts too, but Jou's reactions always struck me as the ones most people would have (being in denial about the situation and distrusting things that were either too weird or looked too normal or out of place even when the others just went with it), though maybe that was because, between survival and adventure, he always favored the former, even if the rest tended to favor the later (though that was mostly due to Taichi). Gomamon, while not my favorite digimon, proved to be an invaluable partner for Jou, being his polar opposite in pretty much everything, it allowed the oldest chosen to go out of his comfort zone, do stuff he would have refrained from doing before and overall becoming a better person because of it. I loved how he went from the "Mr. Safe" guy that didn't want anything to do with the digimon nor their problems, to a "Stil Mr. Safe" guy that was willing to put himself in danger to protect others (like when he saved Takeru from drowning, but nearly drowned for doing so) and that would stand for himself when needed.
I'm eager to see how you develop the other pairings in this fic.
Really? as far as I knew that was Gennai... I guess I'll check that at some point later, no doubt there is already a full blown debate about if it was one or the other in that pod. Tamers kinda lazy at the begining and puts a lot of Slice Of Life, and despite the fights in the real world and the glimpses of the organization that's basically MIB for digimons, I'd say that the real juice of the story starts once they get to the digital world (you will probably like Impmon's story, once they actually tell it), though you still should watch it from the start if only for world-building sake. I'm not sure about Guilmon, but I know Takato was made that way on purpose; they didn't want someone ready to take the bull by the horns like Taichi and Daisuke were, but someone more flawed, more childish that was more prone to make mistakes or get carried away, but learned from it. Before having a digimon, he was just a kinda shy pre-teen whose biggest worry was homework and winnig card games, and you know what? it showed, but that's OK because they wanted us to see that, and then see him grow and better himself. By the end of the show, he may still have been somewhat whimpy and more likely than not a less imposing leader than the previous two, but he also was someone that would take a shot for his friends and tear apart those that hurt them; maybe not the best leader material, but good enough to make them a united front. Calumon was a little like an annoying puppy, even when he was being irritating, he was still too adorable to do something about it. I also liked the human-digimon jogress (it made sense that humans became data in the digiworld; I do wonder what would happen if one died there).
I never got to see the other series after that, though I might do it at a later point since I've heard or catched glimpses of them that poked my curiosity: in Frontier, its that I heard that the kids from there don't have partners, but rather use Legendary Spirits/Digital Spirits/Battle Spirits (that are sort of like the Digimentals) to become digimons themselves, and, while it kills certain dynamics, I'd like to see how it works in the show; what caught my interest in Savers is that I heard one of the human characters got raised in the digital world, and I'd like to see how they manage that story-wise; Xros Wars is a little different, since most if not all digimons can't evolve without jogress (they call it something else, but its jogress), but that doesn't really interest me, and if I'm honest, I only want to watch that one for a subplot between Baalmon and Lilithmon that I've been told is very interesting (something about the first wanting to kill the second for the deaths of people important for the former), and it also helps that I've always wanted to see in action the next evolutive stages of Wizarmon and Lady Devimon.

    1. Jou's character arc was very lovely. I learned today why it's advised to pick stinging nettle with gloves on Also, how big a horse's bone is compared to a human arm(I work on a farm, I promise it's not strange). Gomamon was the best partner for Jou. They complimented each other very well. Out of everyone, I think Jou had the best character arc, in terms of actually progressing. Yes, the others changed as well, but it was in a different sort of changing.

They aren't going to be mentioned very much. It kinda...got shoved to the side for the focus of the main plot(which is not a slow burn to get Takeru/Ken/Daisuke together, I promise). Though, I do only have about eleven more scenes to write(plus edits) before it's technically finished. I'm hoping to finish it up(minus edits) before I move to the next farm on the first, as it would be easier to juggle new farm and edits, rather than trying to wrap up the plot. Plus side, this fic is gonna have 30 to 40 chapters!

It was a speculation. It could also be Gennai. Ryo could totally be Gennai as younger. That was like, the day it came out, so it might not have even picked up much steam as far as debate wise.

That's fair, I guess I never really had the same sense of connection. I think I'll try watching again. I'm on episode...16 currently? I remember watching episodes about the human/digimon fusion. I'll give it a go next time I work on sewing, which I don't have anything to sew, but I still have my spot saved!

You should check out the story Neverworld by arpulver. They did a fantastic job of combining all of the digimon characters and I do mean all of them from every single show. I enjoyed that fic, despite having to constantly google search who was who and the like. If I recall correctly, Xros Wars it's just known as Fusion, rather than jogress. I may be recalling incorrectly, but 95% of my knowledge from all other series comes from the Neverworld fanfic.

      1. Now you got me curious, what is the use of knowing the size of a horse's bone?
I just hope to see a bit of fluff or such here and there, not much, just to remind us they are there. Also, good luck with your plans, I know it can be quite the pain when a planned time tables goes wrong.
Whichever way is interesting, honestly, though I admit I like the idea of it being Ryo more, since it could reopen the idea of Dark Gennai being Gennai (in the flashback that shows the attack of the Dark Masters to stop the cretion of the Crests, tis shown that Piemon inserts something dark into Gennai's body, and I'm of the idea that might have made him evil and kind of crazy (it might even be some of the same thing that got shoved into Meicoomon while still an egg)).
It's okay if you eventually decide you still don't like it, each digimon (Adventure, Tamers, Frontier, Savers and Xros Wars) sort of goes in their own direction, and just because they're all Digimon doesn't mean we have to love them all. I do like Slice of Life, even if others don't (while some might find scenes like Takato and Guilmon baking or Calumon playing soccer to be tedious, I personally find them endearing).
I'm still going to call it jogress, not out of disrespect, but because I truly see them as being the same along with the human/digimon one; I'm of the idea all these evolutive methods are all possible for all of them regardless of their 'universe', they just have to discover them (Lucemon: "Let's drop one of these Digital Spirits on Takeru's head and see what happens!:D). I already went to pick the story to read it later, and, if you will, let me recommend you another Daiken fic (this time a complete one): its called "Drive Me Crazy" by TrippNessa, in it, Daisuke is made prisioner of the Kaiser, who wants him as test subject for his newest idea (a Dark Ring for humans), but Dai isn't just going to stand there and take it, and would do his best to, well, drive him crazy.

        1. So when you pick one up, you are not surprised by how large it is as I was? I find those kinds of things fascinating though...

Lucky for me, I tend not to deviate once I have something planned, unless a really huge issue pops up and makes it impossible for me to continue as I wanted to.

I like the idea of dark Gennai being actual Gennai, as it gives him more of a presence than just... Occasionally giving not quite useful help(which is exactly what he does with this fic so ya know)

I think it's great that the shows all went in different directions, it shows that it can be more than just one thing(Looking at you here Pokemon). Slice of life's fics are nice, that much is true, same goes with shows, but even as a kid, I never liked idly watching tv. I'd always be doing more than one thing, which makes it hard to watch stuff in general. I'll have to look into "Drive Me Crazy"! I think I've seen it come up every once in awhile when I browse tags for things to read. Let me know what you think of "Neverworld" and I have a few other fics I want to read first, then I'll read "Drive Me Crazy".
