It’s all good, as you said yourself, it’s best to write for yourself first and foremost (which I 100% agree with, that’s the only way you’re going to do your best and most authentic work). I’d rather you write the story you want to tell than to pander!
I’ll admit that after reading about their Jogress episode on the wiki, I went and watch it with 0 context. XD I’ve only seen any of Digimon in English since I only really watched it when I was younger and didn’t have the option to see it subbed, and the few times I’ve rewatched as I got older, I chose the dubs because nostalgia. I actually really like some of the English names, “Kari” and ”Yolei” sound so much cuter to me, and again because of nostalgia, I’m super fond of the English voices - especially Kari’s, which was like the first thing that drew me to her. So when I write I’ll most likely use the English names out of preference. ^^’ I hope that isn’t off-putting or anything as most of the fics I’ve read seem to favor the Japanese versions.

That's fair. I have watched both the English and the Japanese and found I like the Japanese personally more. I read a lot of fics that are also using the english names and the like. It's all personal taste, in my own opinion.
