It's crazy to have 167K words in 3 stories! One day, maybe I'll go back over my fanfic life and figure out how many words I produced each year. Except maybe not SOLD! as it was written over 7-1/2 years or so. It would be difficult to figure out how much I wrote each year.
Awesome! I'm looking forward to seeing your new pieces! I'm sad that the participation is down in all of the challenges, but for now, I will continue to run them. It's still great to see all the wonderful artwork and stories being produced!
Yeah, it’s an interesting statistic to figure out. All in all, you are a prolific writer.
:D Thanks! I noticed too that the participation is down in all challenges. :( There is new writers in the NCIS fandom but they don’t seem to be interested at participating in challenges. As for artists, we are so few. Yeah, I agree it’s great to see all the wonderful artwork and story combos coming from those challenges, that’s why I have created my artwork prompts challenge, to get more combos.
I know some people just don't care for deadlines. Sometimes I like the challenge of having to work with a deadline, and I enjoy working with an artist - seeing what story I can come up with for their artwork, or what artwork they come up with for my story. And it's nice to see what other people come up with for challenges, as well. I think challenges are a great way to meet and work with other people in the fandom.
I know a couple mods from my old fandom, and they pulled the plug on their SeSa in 2018. So, I gave it some thought - at what point should I call it a day? We'll see. Sometimes I think I'll keep running them as long as people are enjoying them. I wish we'd pick up a couple new writers each year...but I don't want people to sign up if they're going to drop after they're assigned a partner/recipient. That's the nice thing about the Happy Holidays challenge - no signing up, no partner depending on you (unless it's by your own choice!), no minimum word count. I wanted that to be a *no pressure* sort of challenge.
For this year's NCIS SeSa, I'm a bit humored that I couldn't pick out who wrote the story for me...LOL. Once I figured out what other people wrote, it was just a process of elimination, and I figured the last Santa had to be mine.
For some people deadlines are stressful. I don’t mind them, I usually do ok with deadlines. I like working with an author, jane_x80 and I collaborated many times over the years. I agree re great way to meet and work with other people.
Even if the participants were fewer this year, we did get a bunch of great stories for the SeSa. You will see next year if you should or not pull the plug on the NCIS SeSa. I wish that the NCIS fandom would pick up new writers for each challenge though but I do not want either people to drop after they are assigned a recipient, it’s so unfair. I do get that sometimes RL brings its issues but we have to do the right thing and at least let people know that you have to drop out. The Happy Holidays challenge is fun but without some encouraging words from jane_x80, I don’t think that I would have participated this year. I am a bit sad that I was the only artist that created artworks for the last challenge.
LOL I am familiar with the writing of your Santa, so it was an easy guess for me.
I learned that for me, I have to jump on a challenge right away. I often don't even sign up if I don't have an idea in mind. For the Reverse Bang, I don't claim artwork unless it sparked a bunny. SeSa is different though. Working with a recipient's prompts is easier to start from scratch, than trying to force a WIP to work for someone else's prompt.
We've been very lucky with the NCIS SeSa. So far, we've only had two dropouts (same person, different years). It's nice when everyone comes through. We have had a lot of good stories come out of all the challenges, but yeah, there is something special about SeSa.
I do wish more artists would jump in. I think it would be great to see more holiday inspired artwork - just icons or banners. Not sure why we don't see much art. Rose did a piece, but posted to her personal journal, not the com. I think because it went with the story she did earlier. Not sure if the art just wasn't done on time, or if it was an afterthought. I might have to think of some art pieces I'd like to see and make those my Happy Holidays wish. I remember Rose did the ornament icons one year. One year, I asked for Santa icons, and Jilly James made a few for me. Rose made a couple as well.
